I remember buying my first PC and got the largest hardrive... 6.4 gig now 1 TB on a micro sd is just crazy.
I remember shelling out $130 for a 1 gigabyte flash roughly 20 years ago and that to me felt massive coming out of the 90’s where megabytes were large! To see a 1tb MICRO SD card is utterly insane to me.
i remember in 1998 when 2GB was HUGE and we were able to install about 8 games all at the same time.

Thanks for the SD Card recommendation. I was using a horrible SD Card that I got for less than $20 on eBay and my games weren't downloading, lol. I went a step down, though, and instead got the 200GB version (or 200 something) because it was a lot cheaper, and should fit me well. Thanks!

@@phantomthunderclap975 When I was choosing between a Vita and a 3DS in 2012. The Vita card is what killed the console for me. I ended up buying a 3DS. In hindsight, I made a good choice, as the 3DS library is fucking amazing!
It is a shame the Vita had to get fucked over so hard, because the Vita is such a nice looking console! It could have had a way better library, and not just be a Persona weeb machine! I might buy one, and hack it for fun, just to collect it.

I was not going to buy it at almost $400, but Amazon just had a Black Friday deal where it was down to about $189. That's still a lot, but considering I just filled out my OWN 400 GB card, I figured I'd splurge a bit and grab it. I enjoy keeping my library all digital 😂

I've always heard that the SDXC data transfer format is capable of up to 2 TB. The theoretical support exists for cards that haven't even been built yet. Thought that was pretty cool!

Here’s a simpler option
1) turn off the switch and remove the sd card
2) put the new sd card in
3) just redownload everything, the save data stays in the console

Nah, the Card can overheat, and there's a Format for more professional Photographers. Called CF, its bigger (Both physically and in Storage) and you might've seen that CF port on the FAT PS3

You pay the money for the convenience and the quality storage. Sure it was expensive, but it was an investment. It's amazing to me that 1TB Micro SD cards are even possible. Technology is getting to be just incredible.
I've also opted for the multiple SD cards alternative. Only problem is that it's a bit of a hassle. Not really, but when you think of it compared to just having all your games on the console at all times, it kind of is. I wish there was some sort of device that could combine multiple cards. Might not be possible, though a workaround I could think of would be like a device that you hit a button on and it switches which SD card is loaded onto the device. It would also be nice if the switch could have custom libraries so I could keep tabs on which SD card a game is on. At some point, I plan on doing a dedicated Nintendo card and a couple other categories to make this easier.
Here's me just buying a 1.5TB card for $90 bucks in 2024 and I still need more room for my Switch lol

Many printers have a SD card reader
Many modern computers also have SD card readers built into them. You may need an SD card adapter to put a micro in your computer, but most micros come with an adapter anyway.
I did this by puting my sd card from my Switch into my phone and using a USB cable to transfer the data to my computer. Also after formatting the new card with my Switch I put it in my phone opened the card via USB erased the Nintendo folder and copied the old Nintendo folder from my computer. It all worked out pretty smoothly. I only have a switch lite so maybe the process is a little different for the original switch but I doubt it.

this is the console where i actually have been thinking of going digital only, for now i mainly do physical. iv already went from a 128GB to a 256GB card.
but with switch being something you can take on the go. digital is starting to seem more enticing
my only problem currently is when it comes to i/o speeds from fastest to slowest its cartridge, then internal, then sd card.
if the next switch supports UHS-2, & UHS-3 sd cards which are way faster or sd experss , & if the internal memory is faster that may go digital only.
most games the memory speeds doesn't matter but theres games like fortnite that load slow when jumping from the bus if on sd card.

This is a problem only someone who downloads games has. This is more memory than my PC.
Large games are approximately 13 gigabytes, so with 400 GB you can only have just about 31 big games. You can only have more if you plan on downloading a ton of smaller ones.

For anyone buying a micro SD for their Nintendo switch you only need read speeds of 100mbs. That's the max the switch can read the card so anything over 100mbs doesn't do anything for more money.

Their manufacturing cost for the company is not much more than run of the mill 32 GB SDs so that's infuriating.
@@Y.M... but the failure rate is high, that's the thing about semiconductor. The more cutting edge the product the higher the failure rate, which in turns lower the yield. You are paying for the fail production also.
Think about like this. The cost to manufacture lets say a batch of 100 for product A and B is 100 dollar. Now A is yielding 80% success rate, you then sold A at no less than the 100 (production cost) divided by 80 (the yield). Now B is more cutting edge, lets say the yield is 20%. From this you can see why B is more expensive than A, the sell price is no less than 100 divided by 20.
There are also other costs such as research and development, distribution and such. The point is yield is an important part of cost in semiconductor manufacturing. That is why older products get less pricey. As the optimise and learn cost effective high yield production technology.

Im surpriced it worked, because when the Switch came out Im pretty sure they said the max supported capacity of SD cards is 512GB. Good to know it supports bigger, thanks Rich...btw to open the switch stand easy, dont try to open it from the bottom, it has kind of hook that you will push towards the slot making it stuck harder... just slightly push from the top of the stand and it will open easy :)

you dont have to do this i spent hours trying, pop out the micro sd, and simply put the new one in, it will give you a notification to put the old one back DO NOT LISTEN redownload all your games and all the data will remain! worked for me, but you wont have any screenshots

Edit: I also think it helped a lot to have OneDrive syncing turned off for this transfer as i think that process, like another user stated, did something to mess up compatibility with the Switch.

I actually bought the Nintendo-branded micro SD card for my switch; I know I'm really only paying for the branding, but that was alright. Reason being, was the sd card I had gotten for the Switch beforehand got completely corrupted whole trying to download an update for a game. The Nintendo-branded SD cards were already all ready to pop into the switch, and I was too scared to mess around with things, so I paid more money for everything.

I think 128 or 512 is way enough i have 128gb i have 3 big game that i bought online mk11, SP both, and other few and theres a ton of samller game currently i have like more than 15 games on my switch and still have free space and honestly nobody playing 15 game at the same time. All you have to do is copy to PC and then copy to the new card.
I don't know why you made up that bit about it not recognizing the new card.
It doesn't recognize or not recognize the mSD cards.
All it cares about is the encryption that makes the game's locked to that system/account. The card being used doesn't matter (unlike the 3DS where you needed a specific format and had to use 3rd party tools to make those over 32GB work).
Switch uses both formats though so it doesn't matter.
Yeah, I hope that using the micro SD card would be simple and support a lot of storage as well. I already have a 64GB micro SD card on my smartphone.
Eh, I've transferred games to a brand new card, which refused to be recognized until it was formatted, which it was by the tool Nintendo recommends. I formatted and tried again, throwing the error each time. Maybe a system update changed that, but I ended up just redownloading everything.

My XBox One’s *4TB External Storage* box cost just $100.
It is madness to think that they are charging that much for 1TB. I realise that the jump in technology to accomodate that much storage space on an SD card is impressive and new, but there is mo excuse to charge about 5 times the price of an SD card with half the storage.
Of course hard drives are dirt cheap these days and the 1 tb micro SS card are fairly new while 1 tb hard drive was first Revealed almost 13 years ago and also cost $400 (in 2007 money). Also flash storage (SSD, m.2 drives and Sd cards) are light years faster than your traditional hard drive and will last eons longer than a hard drive since there are no moving parts. Give it some time and the price will go down.

It's called buyers' remorse. You NEEDED this 1tb because the switch has only 1 slot and your 400gb was full. Apparently you are a heavy gamer that obviously needs that much memory, so it was the best thing to do. For you.
I had the same thing, I bought a 200gb card for my switch at about 30$ (incl. snh). I have over 250 demos now downloaded and the thing isn't nearly full yet. Playing through these will take me the whole of 2020.
I got for my 3dsxl a 32gb card, also shitloads of space on the thing, while I downloaded just about anything available.
We tend to overshoot things a bit I'm afraid.

I bought a 400 GB memory card when I bought my Switch on day one. Best thing I've bought for my Switch as I have over 100 Indie games on it that I paid on average $2 for since Nintendo emails you when something on your Wishlist is on sale and Indie games regularly get marked down 60-90%. If I could have gotten a TB card for it then, I would have.
