Someone mentioned the SD Card, it’s a knock-off that somehow made its way into Amazon cause you can tell about the font to the knock-off and the original
ULOIRAR they have a very distinct smell, you know it when you smell it if you’ve ever dealt with old electronics like retro game consoles, as capacitors and transistors usually are the first thing to go. (Unless it’s a disc using console then it’s the laser or laser assembly motor.)

sounds like something got shorted most probably caused by a foreign object or conductive material that got stuck in the sdcard slot. If there was a defect with the slot we would have heard of a lot more cases after 3 years.
I wonder if maybe it's a counterfeit SD card? That could explain why it happens randomly with different SD card sizes. Those cheap knock offs may not be able to handle the power demands of the Switch.
Yeah, I'm thinking the same. Notice that the microSD card is perfectly intact, but the SD card slot has a hole as if it exploded. Something doesn't add up there.

Lassi Kinnunen SD-Cards are very small computers. So it is possible that the SD-Card itself can get very hot. However, the image shown looks a bit bogus 🤨
@Lassi Kinnunen That's entirely wrong. What would cause a counterfeit SD card to melt is if it couldn't handle the voltage being sent to flip the transistors, which would mean its not rated anywhere near the specs of a real 1TB card. Now what would explain one Switch melting and the other not is a difference in hardware and firmware that played nicer with it, or the guy didn't actually do any thing to stress the card. No, the Switch is not the issue anymore than a GPU blowing a shoddy PSU would be.
@@thomasa.243 SD cards are actually just mini SSDs, exactly like them in fact. An SD card would not cause that kind of damage. The card in the image is barely damaged and SD cards get hot and are designed to withstand high heat caused by file transfer. It could be the switch overloaded the bus and it backed up and caused heat buildup and then boom
My guess is that it was his SD Card that caused that, or he had a counterfeit card. If the SD Card has a crack that can happen. Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't know how to explain it. Its hard for me to explain a lot of detail.

16 hrs a day...really?
The voltage regulation circuit for the micro SD slot is defective.
I got a 200GB SD card in my Switch I think it's a SanDisk card as well but I've had my Switch since Oct. 25th 2017 when Mario Oddesy came out and I've had the card that long as well bought it specifically for use in the Switch. I haven't had any issues with mine at all not a one 😉
Seems like the ones melting it were fake micro sd cards
Lol, I posted on that Reddit thread asking "how do you know the SD card was at fault and not the Switch?" and the Ninten-drones down-voted me into oblivion. Classic fanboy-ism.
Or maybe you got hate because you call everyone who disagree with you a drone or fanboy.
Try to act nice and people would be nice to you also
The SD card was fake, that's how.
The extreme isn’t made for switch tho I thought. That’s the fault of the owner not the card.
I love it when rich advertises products *NO ONE* can afford.
Dogmaguy74 it’s pretty cheap
@@rerrer3346 Its more than i make in a month.

@@rerrer3346 The job isn't the problem but thank you. What is the price after coupon?

Damn. I just bought a 1TB and it's coming in a couple of days. And then this video pops up. lol. Wish me luck.
John Branch IV Photography any News…?
@@cuevagrafica Yep. I've been using it for 4 months so far with no troubles at all. I'm happy I bought it. A little expensive but I have SOO MUCH STORAGE on my Switch now.
@@jbivphotography i know never seen the day i witness 1TB of storge inside a sd card
What’s with the really weird sound effects 🧐
I have a 64gb SanDisk card in my switch and nothing is wrong with it 🤨🤨🤨 I have 2gb SanDisk cared in my PSP, I have a 16gb SanDisk card in my PS Vita, and I have a 250gb SanDisk card in my Canon T5i camera and nothing is wrong with it I think it has something to do with the switch they had
Me over here with an 8 gig card for screenshots in my switch and a bunch of cartridges
Same
Never ever buy a 1TB micro sd card or a Switch! It will ruined your Christmas and be your worst nightmare! If you have already done it, don't do it again.
And that's why you don't order gaming stuff on Amazon, kids.
Or at least watch what reseller you buy from
I’ve bought 3 hard drives multiple sd cards multiple games 3 micro sd card adapters and 1 usb micro sd card to USB adapter and they all work just fine
I wonder ,if it's the games they're playing? Or if the speed of the card with the game they're playing with it? to cause the switch to melt? I have no issues with mines either. I have a 400 gig card.
512 gb and then upgraded to the 1tb and yep no problem
The card was “hot to the touch”. xDD
I have a switch lite and I use a 128 gb Sandisk SD card and have had no problems. I’ve had my switch since hmm.. April of this year
i don’t watch as much anymore because of having a busy life, but love to see how much weight you’ve lost. very proud, keep up the good work and the content !
I had my SanDisk 512GB Ultra MicroSD since November 3 2019 it’s June 2 2022 and it still works.
I've had an sd card in my switch for over a year. So far I'm currently one of the lucky ones.
What if instead Nintendo made it where if u pop in a micro sd card that isn’t made by them it frys the system lol
The switch when they put the 1Tb Sd card:the switch “and I oop” catches fire
Maybe Nintendo is sabotaging the Switch, in order for individuals to eventually buy Nintendos personal Micro SD cards
You can tell that card is fake! The one in the photo that melted says "Extreme PLUS" the real one just says "Extreme".
Nintendo gonna say this was caused by the users not the card
It was a fake sd card, so they technically are right in a way
My 500 ish SandDsk SD card seems perfect and it's been a year.

You're welcome
Jose Quintero - you legend lol
And 2:30
The person tool a pic of the burnt area of the switch, but the SD card itself was clean like new?....hmm.
I hate when Rich talks about products that isn't Cutting Edge Gamer.
I have a sandisk 1tb .. and no issues with it at all.. maybe its the xtreme version thats the issue..however you dont need an extreme version...the nintendo can only read at the slow speed anyway
it is panic mode!! 2k hours of splatoon 2 will die!!
Guys it's a fake sandisk. The font on the 1 is not the real one. There you problem solved cut the gossiping.
