    Thanks for making this video. I got Tears of the Kingdom today and forgot that I'm out of space on my SD card. This helped a ton. Happy playing to all my fellow Zelda fans out there on this 5/12/23! The past 2 years since the initial announcement felt like an eternity and it's awesome to see today finally come

    So this method worked flawlessly for me the first time I upgraded from a 256 to a 512. However my second time I tried to do this from 512 to 1TB I did it on a Macbook Pro, and the Switch would always say either it couldn't read the Micro SD or that it was corrupted. I re-tried formatting and copy pasting the folder about 4 times before I decided to try on a Windows 10 PC. NOW, it actually worked via doing it from a Windows 10 PC HOWEVER the switch would NOT READ ANY OF MY PICTURES OF VIDEOS. So I re-tried the method over and over and still the same result. So I tried deleting the Album folder from the microSD card and then copy pasting the Album folder from my PC and that actually worked...for some reason.
    Hope this helps someone with this issue.

      I just found this out after using my Mac Mini. The Nintendo website mentions that doing this transfer method on an OS outside of Windows would not be guaranteed to work, so I had to spend hours throughout the afternoon to do that and it worked no problem! This will be difficult for users within the Apple/Mac Ecosystem who mainly use any Mac computer without a Windows PC as a secondary option, unless Boot Camp within Mac or any Virtual Desktop software is possible, but not too sure since I haven’t tried it yet. Some answers from anyone would be appreciated, but for now, Windows would be the way to go for this method.

    1:37 Um, excuse me @128KB, but Nintendo actually recommends that if you’re upgrading to a new SD card, that you use the SD associations SD Card Formatter program to format your new microSD card before you copy your Nintendo folder onto it. And I agree, that’s the best course of action, as you don’t really wanna insert a new empty unformatted microSD card there before it has the last card’s data on it. They even warn about using multiple SD cards on one system, and so the best course of action is probably to stick to their guide on this, which is to just not touch your switch until the new card is ready to go into the slot, and to just do the rest on the computer.

    • @128KB
      @128KB  2 года назад +4

      Their warning about multiple cards is regarding regularly using multiple cards (having 2 or 3 smaller capacity ones and swapping them in/out Vs having one larger one and keeping it in at all times)
      SD formatter is the official formatter for all SD as it's the most tested and is of course always the best way for formatting SD cards. Especially old, fragmented, SDs. That is the best way to format but I've never had an issue with any SD card I've ever used via the method in the video. I show this in the video for those that are not tech savvy, like parents, who won't have an issue following this. For those that are more tech savvy use the SD formatter instead.

    • @hexagonal69
      @hexagonal69 2 года назад +4

      @@128KB Alright then, I was mainly just pointing out that it would cause a lot of confusion for those who aren’t tech savvy if your guide deviated from the official guide Nintendo posted, as parents for example, wouldn’t really know who to follow. It’s all good.

      @@128KB Just following up - after many painless hours and waiting overnight for Attempt #2 - this does NOT work... I believe because I am on a Mac. From Googling around, looking at various reddit threads, Nintendo Support, etc., it seems the Mac treats this process differently, and so even Nintendo doesn't have sensible instructions to make this simple process work. It's mind boggling in 2022 that I have to have a Windows PC for this. Right now I am trying one last attempt, having exposed the "hidden" files and folders on my Mac's Finder, so I copy all the folders over to the new card including the hidden ones, but I'm not super hopeful. If this doesn't work I'm just gonna redownload. Transferring 500GB of data back and forth just to see if it works, is ridiculously time consuming. :(

      I went and read on Nintendo’s Support pages to see if that would be an issue, and fortunately the save data saves to the System memory, so if a games being wonky or has some problems you could check for corrupt files in (data management IIRC), or you could redownload the software.
      Your saves should be fine if you followed the steps and made sure your Switch’s power was turned Off by holding the power button and doing the menu prompt before switching your microSD cards out.

    I'm lost. I'm using a Mac. I copy the data from the old sd card to my mac, then I copy that data to the new sd card. Because I formatted the sd card, there's already an existing file called "Nintendo" when I transfer my data over I'm given an option of merging or replacing. Neither of these seem to work. If I merge then the data on the sd card simply isn't recognised by the Switch, it acts as if there's nothing on it despite telling me that 50gb are already used up. The data is on their but the console doesn't accept it. If i were to press "replace" then I get an error message saying the Switch couldn't access the sd card as soon as I turn it on. Regardless of what I do, the console won't accept this card and it's the same brand as the previous one, so I know it's not the cards fault.

    Hello! I have a question. I want to use the SD Card (that is currently in my OLD switch) into my new OLED switch. How do I delete the data on my SD card before using it on my new switch? Or does just simply taking out the SD card and putting it in the new switch do that for me already as I know the new switch will ask to reformat it?

    • @128KB
      @128KB  2 года назад +2

      Putting it into the new switch will prompt the new switch to ask you to format :)

      Save data is usually saved onto system storage so best to transfer by going to the old switch, highlighting the game press + then transfer save data

When I copied my desktop folder to the new SD card it went from 200g to 63g, then after trying to do it more manually by transferring between system and SD over and over, the new SD became unable to have anything added to it, even tho it had 410g of space left

    I have a 500GB SD Card that i previously used on my original day one Switch, backed up on my PC and then formatted the same SD Card (I don’t have a second one), then put the backup back onto the SD Card and inserted it into my new OLED Switch… but it doesn’t seem to work and asks to Delete the files instead, do you know of a solution for this?
    I was hoping it’d be a lot easier as it looks unless I’ve messed up 😅

    • @128KB
