The DJI drone ban - the latest (as of 12 June, 2024)

  • Here is the latest news regarding attempts to ban DJI drones in the USA on the grounds of "security". Is the truth being told, will this bill sail through the house and the senate thanks to some cunning manipulation and what will it mean for DJI drone owners. Will other DJI products be affected? Could any good at all come from this ban?
I will do my best to keep everyone informed as to the progress of this proposal as it is considered by The House and Congress and I hope lessons will have already been learned about the dangers associated with leaving the protection of our hobby up to others.
A huge shout-out to my supporters over on Patreon, especially those who have stuck with me through what has been a difficult time of late.

It is a big problem in a lot of countries now, the whole government of many countries needs reformed, the USA is just a particularly bad case of it. All political options are bad so people are forced to vote for the best out of a bad lot, I can say here in the UK lots of people don’t like any of the political parties and don’t feel that any party actually stands for what the public want. Then once a party is in power they have their term to do whatever they want, regardless of what they promised and regardless of what the public actually want.
There is no easy way to fix this but something needs to change. Political parties are just like playground gangs full of career politicians that are only interested in feeling important and lining their pockets. They make laws and regulations on topics they know nothing about after consulting “experts” that often don’t know what they are talking about either. The whole system needs torn down and redone. We need politicians that actually want to serve the country and it’s people, we need actual experts making the laws and regulations and we need more choice, we need more control over what happens. What we don’t need is to be controlled by politicians that most people didn’t want to vote for but had no better choice, we don’t need politicians that think of themselves as above everyone else and we definitely don’t need people who are clueless telling us what we can and can’t do.
We may have democracy in theory but do we really? When we have very limited choices and no ability to do anything about that and that is the only decision we get to make. Again the USA is a very bad case, only two main presidential candidates but the UK isn’t much better with only two main parties.

It's not "the government", it's the local council. Local government is frequently run by overtly terrible people because only a few also terrible local people care. Ask an American: they love whining about "the gubernment" but they all live in corrupt states with corrupt local law enforcement, bent sherrifs, bought representatives etc etc. There's a whole world of disgusting corruption and idiocy ruining lives and almost no-one knows or cares - they're all so caught up in national politics, and everyone loves complaining but no-one does a damm thing about it. Ask anyone whining in this comment section if they even vote in local elections: probably not, and if they do they probably just vote according whatever their dumb national team loyalty is. It's crazy. Local politics is where small numbers of people can actually drive positive change, and yet it's a wasteland, which leaves it to the nasty little bastards who mess with people like Bruce to set the agenda. Humanity is a joke. A noisy, whining, lazy joke.

The devices passed FCC certification, if they still pass certification and haven’t been caught doing anything to violate the law and regulations then how can they remove the certification? It makes no sense. Why remove a technical certification that the device still passes just because politicians don’t like China?
Isn’t it strange that no evidence of any of these claims towards DJI have been released? It would be a very easy way to get the public on their side. No evidence from the government or third party security researchers. Why?

    • @conorstewart2214
      @conorstewart2214 25 дней назад

The difference is they have licensed the hardware. The software is all written by the Texas portion I believe.
All they have to do if they have a legitimate reason to ban DJI drones is to release proof that DJI is doing what they claim they are or could be, that would turn most people over to their side. However they have released no proof and no third party security firm or security researcher has released any proof either. With how common these drones are now then surely a security researcher could buy one and check if it was doing anything dodgy. Very strange how there is no proof from anywhere that DJI drones are spying on people.

I thought the same as you but if you read the FCC documentation it's clear that the certification is done not only on a technical basis (bandwidth, power, spurious emissions etc) but also on the basis of national security so there is provision in the statutes to allow this. Crazy!

Very good breakdown of some of the inconsistancies. As a Canadian, it does look like an opportunity to start a tiny drone manufacturing business and refuse to ship to the USA.

Good thing in New Zealand only drones over 25kg have to be registered. A DJI ban is unlikely here in NZ, the second highest diplomat, Premier Li Qiang , is currently visiting to strengthen trade ties between NZ and China. The free trade agreement is worth too much to ban Chinese products here!

Great video. I unfortunately purchased a DJI 4 months ago. Love the drone, just a hobby and I have never flown one before and it is really a lot of fun for me. Very disappointing that the US government is going down this road. I looked at several manufacturers before I made the purchase and DJI seems to have an amazing product for the price. iPhones that are made in China should be more of an issue considering how many are out there and the ability a smart phone has to collect an enormous amount of data. I realize Apple is not a Chinese company but still seems like it would be more of a concern. Really appreciate the information.

Remember that the US banned Cadbury's chocolate. This is because Cadbury's tastes better than Hersheys. Hersheys didn't like the competition so got the government to ban it. They used some spurious copyright claim, but we all know it's about the money.

The problem is the government has us so busy working to earn a living, we don't have time to attend protests. If we were on welfare and disability, then we'd have the time, but then we wouldn't want to bite the hand that was feeding us. They've got it figured out either way.

It's them Roman's that started it. You can see why Jesus had a go at the markets, knocking over tables. He could see 'the love of money' blinding the owners. And that has grown so big today, that the love for the money means, they just can't let it go.
The 'hanging on' to the hugh reserves, is not letting it 'work' for everyone. Only for the owners to get richer.
Prying cash out of their tight fists means their mental state is not to be humble and grow more businesses that employ people or give to charities to help the needy, rather it's like Scrooge McDuck, never wanting to spend a penny. The Roman system and taxation has done it's dash. It's now out of date.
