Just a heads up to people thinking that this is just so easy.. You have to have a drone part 107 license to be able to sell any image or video captured with the drone. The regular drone license is just for recreational flying.. You need the commercial 107 part to be able to do anything involving MONEY with the drone.
yeah, and everything is up in the air with the mini 3 especially now that remote ID is in effect. apparently remote ID only works on the mini 3 if you purchase the bigger battery. you can still fly it unregistered with the normal battery which keeps the drone under 250g, but part 107 just got more complicated.
My realtor had something similar done for our house. She paid around $2500 for all internal and exterior photos and video. Dope process. The interior photographer made $1200ish in 1hr. The drone and AI imager made $1300 in 45min. Seriously considering going into this as a side gig.
Looks like as cheap as 300$ for aerial photos up to 1300 for full 3d package including indoor and outdoor and post-processing (much more than 1 hour of work). This is in so cal. Not sure where you are at and your realtor is paying nearly double. She may have just lied to you to appear as though she is investing more time/money(very common). Checked about 5 of the top websites on google for these prices.
Wow! That’s amazing!!! So say that’s 1-2 hours of getting the drone shots + getting the 360 video of inside and outside + let’s say 2 hours of editing. So my guesstimation would be 2-4 ish hours total making $500-$2500 depending. That works out to be about $125-$625 / hour. You do 4 clients a month that’s $2000-$10000 in a month. Then you double and do 8, that’s $4000-$2000 a month. Double and do 16 that’s $8000-$40000 a month. So yeah! Sounds like it could be really profitable once you have that influx of clients.
It depends on your area and the company. 2500 might be reasonable on a house worth several hundred thousand. In my area, you can get all those from the same guy for about 800$. Many firms are offering packages for real estate that include all of those things for progressively lower prices.
There’s also learning curve for all these softwares, cost of fly licence, course, cost (time) of planning the flight ahead, applying for permits where needed, acquiring client, and so on. On top of acquiring all the equipment. Meanwhile one’s gotta eat and pay rent.
This concept and your presentation, are great examples of freelance/gig work. The area I live in is booming with new houses and subdivision development, and a service like this could be very valuable to both the developer, and future owners. In fact, the average person owns a home for around five years before listing it for sale again, there is potential to resale digital packages to each new owner.
not being a hater, just realistic, but who would see value in that video as a buyer of a residential property? I went onto the website in this video. It looks pretty average to say the least. I was hoping for a wow factor, but it's just not there. If I'm buying this property, I see no difference in the nerf compared to a standard circular drone video. Why would the seller of the property want to pay for something that they can get from a standard drone video? I like the walk-though 360 video. That was good.
@@sunrisesunset8843this was mostly meant for the developers (construction company that make the hone) for them to save money instead of going out with plane tickets etc. Think u got somthing wrong.
the biggest problem most will have is #1 finding the customers willing to pay for the service, #2 learning the software and building the website. The filming part is the easiest piece.
I think the 360 walkthrough is the most interesting. Nobody is doing that! Everyone sets the camera in the corner and does a still 360 and makes a semi-virtual walkthrough. What you've shown that can be done is awesome! It's an ACTUAL 360 walkthrough!
@@r3furbish3dbrain12 thanks for your response! Do know if there’s any way to blur the person holding the camera (like if they walk by a mirror) and not lose the virtual 360 effect of rotating the view? As a DJI Mini 3 fanatic, this is a masterclass. Almost went down this same route for drone freelancing but decided against it because of other commitments - but this is exactly what I would've done to get started. The business system is so sick and your workflow is inspiring especially since the whole process is basically free. Would imagine there are some things you can leverage with the LumaLabs API / AI-based editing plugins, but this is seriously so rad. Earned a sub for sure - can't wait to follow your progress! Great video!
Hi Dylan, it is a wonderful video and inspiring, I am living in Finland and I am working to give this services and more, but need some help on how did you do with the website project since I see that is not a subdomain of your website. Really appreciate if you can help with this issue, I am using wordpress for my website, but I can change to squarespace if it's better, if you have a video about workflow and build this project it will wonderful... So in my opinion the drone is one of many tools your using to make 2500 per month. The real money maker is your video editing software and knowledge there of.

i appreciate this video im starting a drone business and you hi key just leveled my service offering up. I madea 3d asset of a light house taking over 500 pictures on a mini 3 and this luma ai has changed the game.
Can you talk about how you pay for the websites? Can you have the domain up for a month then switch it? Are there packages where you can have multiple domains? Would love some more insight how you work with that considering properties are always coming up then being sold. Thanks!
I use subdomains for clients. Keeps my business domain as part of the address. Still an added expense, but you have more in-out control. Password protected, etc.
First rule in acquiring clients is building trust. Easiest way to build trust is to offer something valuable for free. Less cryptic version: Do it for free and offer it to several customers for an honest review? Really cool things start to happen after that. They may actually refer people to you. They themselves might see an ongoing need for that service. You get to start building your portfolio of actual real world application of your service than now you can leverage of social media, RUclips or Run Ads with. I always start simple. If you have a good product, give it away for free to valid that you think is good, others also think is good. After you validate, you promote and network, rinse and repeat.
One question I would have is location. Are you only doing this type of work close to your home, or have you gotten projects that pay well enough to travel onsite to their site? I've got a Mini 3 Pro and Mavic 3 that would be so easy to work into this.
dont expect to find consistant work with a drone locally.. Expect to travel.. And dont expect to charge thousands like everyone is trying to suggest. Even with mansions.. the competitive drone pilots ( since its stupid easy to get and only costs $$$ ) charge under 500 for a full suite of photos. Good luck competing with them with a mini 3 and a mavic 3 when they are flying the Inspire series with a camera thats 10000% better and charging a fraction of what you want to charge.
What do you post to get the clients? Will you make something talking about this? What your profession is. And where we would be starting at the very beginning to get the client
Really happy to see this. I got the mini 3 as well and most videos cover higher priced drones. So really cool to see this work done on a mini 3. Would love to see more mini 3 possible jobs.

I would love for you to respond at talk to me Don’t you need a part 107 license to do all of the drone stuff it’s kinda illegal if you don’t have one right?
What is your method of finding clients for these types of projects? What's your marketing presentation? ...and where and how do you present your service(s) towards said potential clients? Do you hookup through realtors?
This is a fantastic question. There is no “one method” to securing a client. It takes a trial and error as some will respond to cold calls, warm intros and even simply just offering them in person/ on the job site a sample to get them to bite. Having a portfolio (even if it’s of your own home or a friends home) can be the place to start. Looking for a developer that is building several homes in a neighborhood can also be a gold mine.
This is actually incredible. I shoot real estate photography and use my drone everyday but no way did this ever pop into my mind as a service> Thanks Dylan
Hey mate, I live in UK and I'm thinking about starting a Real Estate Photography here, would you mind to share some informations, just so I can get my head around it please.
@dylangorman just to confirm, the 3D walk throguh is prepared using your gopro software that came with the camera, not another software. Luma AI did not like my interior photos ;). It also did not like my test capture of a cell tower, too many gaps in the lattice structure. I think I have work around to take more higher angle shots which shows lattice gaps against ground vice the sky. TIA
If you used a Skydio 2+ with 3D Scan you could autonomously capture all of the data needed (and with better coverage) WHILE you do the interior scan with the GoPro. Heck, if the site is big enough, you could have the drone do the entire thing, walkthrough included, with KeyFrame.
Looking to get into Photogrammetry using DroneDeploy and curious if I should look into the Air3 or go with the Mavic enterprise mostly just to get the autonomous flight option. Do you think it's worth putting thousands extra into autonomous flight or would getting the new air3 be very sufficient to capture the renders and volumetric data with DroneDeploy?
With Drone Deploy processing you can use any drone. For capturing data with their app you need specific drones that they highlight on their website. For accurate data you need an RTK or GCP setup. Too much to explain over a simple reply but those are the basics. The Air3 won’t get you accurate data but will get you pretty data
If you aren't focused on capturing artistic shots with a compressed background and foreground from the 3x lens or wildlife shots where you would use the 3x zoom lens to avoid getting too close and scaring an animal, you could save yourself a lot of money and get the Mini 3 Pro, which has the same main camera as the Air 3.
Thanks for the video Dylan. One thing I noticed though, with the 360 video, is that behaves differently on a phone than it does on anything with a bigger screen. If you stay on the project website, the 360 vid is "fishbowl" and you have no control over the view. However, when you open it in RUclips, then the view is normal but the only way to change the perspective is by moving the phone around! I set up my own sample project site to show to prospective clients. I noticed this happening with the 360 vid and thought I had done something wrong until I went back and checked your project site. Not a show stopper and I haven't checked it on a larger "pro" phone either.
Thanks for the informative video Dylan. I am working my way into this industry, and am currently building a portfolio. I have the all the gear, but am curious about the 360 max video. How are you able to share basically an unrendered video without any set frames? All my max videos need to be rendered in app to be shareable.
As a pilot who flies GA aircraft, I am afraid of drones. I’m afraid of birds too, but birds are generally afraid of my plane and stay away from me, drone pilots may not be fully aware of my presence with no way to communicate with me. Geese are also big and pretty easy to spot compared to a small drone. Drones most definitely present a risk, but just not as big as people make them out to be. Very good video
usually i skip any 'this is how to make money' videos but this was pretty good. do you find many other people offering a similar or "drone footage" service?
Could you do an explanation and or a video on how you got started finding clients or what’s the best way to get started to find somebody’s clients that have projects in different cities but don’t wanna fly in to check on their progress every week or month?
Great video! Two questions; 1. Do you document the building every week, from start to Finnish for this client? 2. I don't see the benefit the customers have of the photogrammetry/NeRF model? Keep up the good work!!
In that situation I can, because the customer can see the work that is being done and how far along the restoration is going and can possibly see any issues or problems and be able to contact the contractor 5k miles away and have it addressed.
@@lpskywalk I think it's having the ability to look at a specific angle opposed to having to stop the video at a specific point. They could say "I want to quickly look at the front and back" and quickly turn the model around to see the front and back of the house in a matter of seconds rather than looking for those shots in the video.

Thank you for sharing your business ideas with community Dylan! I have a question. Using Go Pro at the time stamp 7:52 walk thorough video is taken. How is pause and 360 view option is available in the video? Is it the GoPro feature? or the software? I use Insta360 and my 360 videos don't have this option.
I was wondering the exact same. I have a Insta360 as well and i can't figure out how to do that. Maybe Dylan is using a specific 360 player but how does he play the video from his website maintaining the 360 capability?
Hi Dylan, just started watching your videos so not sure if you have made one on this but I am looking at starting up a business in this industry and one thing that I am struggling with is working out how to charge clients. If you could provide some insight, it would be much appreciated.
He’s got a video on that bud, it’s titled something like how to charge for jobs in 2023 or something along those lines. It’s a year old but it’s still relevant now. Another tip is call around a few drone companies etc Google search get free quotes in your area and you can get a good idea on what people charge
The Virtual tour concept assumes that we can move around inside the building (photo or 3D) and stop the camera and rotate 360º.... but how is this achieved and with which Luma app? From what I see, Luma has two apps: one to convert a video into 3D but only for iphone 11 or higher and the Flythough app asks $10 for each model, that is, we have to pay to see an example. I would like if you could really explain to us what the end product customers pay $500 for, just for that aerial 3D model?
Very, very cool! Excellent business model and very creative idea for a service! I wonder, how do you find clients if they don't live in your area? Do you go to every construction site and ask whose property it is? Or you have some sort of relationship with construction companies? Or you have aggressive online marketing? Thanks!
Very good video Dylan. One of my first "lessons" from you was using the Mini 2 with Maps Made Easy. I used it to create a 3d model at my home, then I did another using Agisoft Metashape. Similar to what you show here, I'm trying to use all free or inexpensive tools due to this being a hobby and no real income yet. I have picked up some roof inspections with Bees360, but that is about it. I am actually in a new subdivision in Middle TN and people move here from the north east, California, Illinois, etc. on a daily basis. I need to walk down the street (literally) and do this on one of the homes under construction, then I could walk in the model home and show the agents what can be done, and maybe they could pitch this to their clients that are building the homes? It's worth a shot! Recently sold the Mini 2 and picked up the Mini 4 Pro. Looking forward to see if you have any videos coming up about it. Thanks again.
@@SoyPorteroYT the method that he shows in this video works perfectly. Luma Labs AI is awesome. I do not have the 360 degree camera for interiors yet and I have not created a website yet, but the drone footage to 3d model is really neat. It is much easier on Luma Labs web based system than it is to go through a legit 3d modeling software. I am still trying to figure out the limits of Luma Labs though.
I just purchased my first drone. I got the DJI MINI 2 SE. just to get a feel for how a drone operation works. But just seeing this. Less than 4:14 into the video. I’m extremely happy with my purchase
Great work as always! As your mentioned, getting the clients is probably the hardest part. Who would you say for services like this, would be best to target?
Thank you Juan! I think this is a video that I need to consider making now. To date I have about 400 comments asking that same question. I will get to the drawing board and write out a video that I think would help with this.
Very interesting, so I could use my DJI Mavic 2 Pro for something like this. On the 3D view of the building is the only option to have a link or can you export an OBJ file as well for use in other programs? For your Pictures/Videos are you using Auto settings or are you shooting in D-Log and post editing the colors?
It looked like he was using auto from the DJI app screen. I'd say to keep costs low (from experience) auto is best otherwise you need to charge a few hours for editing.
This service absolutely has commercial or industrial applications that work perfectly. You would obviously use better software for those industries and certainly charge more...
@@DylanGormanDylan great video congrats but something I didn't understand really, you mentioned for the 2 houses clients will pay 500$ monthly, why would they pay monthly for the job you did once only ? Thank you
You have some great practical advice that I plan to use in getting my drone business going. I have thought of doing the same type of construction progress. Basically, you are solving a problem and saving your clients time and money. Any advice on how to find the property under construction and make contact with the person having it built?
Guys this is illegal in the usa. Don't do this without a Part-107 license(Equivlent of a driver's license but for unmanned aircrafts) You can fly drone as a hobbyst as much as you want, even post the video's on youtube. But when you start selling the content you make on a drone, or fly a drone for any business related thing, that is a completly different story. Even though the drone is under 249 grams, and does not need a drone license plate, it still does need the Part-107
I don't believe he mentioned anything at any point in this video that you should do this without a Part-107. He is showcasing how he does it technically. That's it. If someone finds it intriguing they should continue the research.
Great video honestly. I've been involved in a couple projects on my own. This is great but something of value you should add or cover, is where to find those new clients? After one project is done where do you find your next client? I was fortunate and have an inlaw who is a project manager, but to continue, it would be nice to know where.

so how do you find the owners and know that they are in areas that is too far to travel for themselves? I mean there is probably some chinese owners but geez how on earth are you meant to know this?
I’m not on board with helping foreign clients buy up American property, that’s already been devastating for both the US and Canada. However guess it depends on the circumstances, if it were someone in another state or someone who will be moving in themselves that would be more reasonable. Nice channel though and thanks for the tips.
As long as those property purchases are legal and lucrative they will happen whether we take the work or not. I have mixed feelings about some of the work I do but I recognize that refusing the work will not make any difference. To make a difference I think our effort is better spent telling policymakers that we don't like the policy. Honestly, I'm not confident that telling policymakers makes any difference either because they're looking out for things other than us. Still, refusing the work won't help 😞 I do admit that if somebody just feels better by turning down certain jobs, that is an important factor.
I’m in the service business but I hear what you are saying. It’s the world that we live in so if I can make money to get by then I’ll do so by economical means

Man. Seems so simple. I feel like i am more than capable of replicating this process. I think getting a client would be the tough part or getting in touch with the right people. I guess cold calling or cold emailing would help get someone started.
Curious how much it costs to have a drone license in ur country? In my country you need to have a special commercial pilot license. You essentially need to write an aviation codes test to learn all proper air tower communications. Its like $4000 a year. We also have massive restrictions on where drones are allowed to fly in my city. Many times requiring film permits. Very much a hassle and a part of a few reasons i never got one. Also we have a height restriction of 200m. Cant go higher than that. Flying along the coast is one of the only non restricted areas. Unless its over a national park which forbids drones. And we have loads of national parks everywhere
It only works with mini 2. SDK is only available on that drone. I got scammed buying a mini 3 pro with fly more combo. I’m asking for a refund. But they are going to say it’s too late.
What's the best way to find a customer base for this?? Seems like it could be anything from new home being built or massive construction project how or where is the best way to find clients???

If you want something bad enough, none of those things listed should stop you.
That's why you build those costs into your fees that you charge.

How do you find your clients? I’m trying to get into it
Can you talk about how you pay for the websites? Can you have the domain up for a month then switch it? Are there packages where you can have multiple domains? Would love some more insight how you work with that considering properties are always coming up then being sold. Thanks!
pretty sure he did at the beginning of the video
I use subdomains for clients. Keeps my business domain as part of the address. Still an added expense, but you have more in-out control. Password protected, etc.
Hey hey! Just wondering how to approach new clients or rather how did you get paid when you didn't have a track record?
How the heck do you find clients like that is my question?

Correct
What is your method of finding clients for these types of projects? What's your marketing presentation? ...and where and how do you present your service(s) towards said potential clients? Do you hookup through realtors?
Good question! Up
Drone photography is not profitable. Realtors got their own drones.
Realtors also mostly fly illegally too.

Tell me more!
@@Kirk510 The Skydio 3D Scan software starts at $2,999 drone/year...
Any tips on how to acquire clients on this?
How much is course?

2. I don't see the benefit the customers have of the photogrammetry/NeRF model?

In that situation I can, because the customer can see the work that is being done and how far along the restoration is going and can possibly see any issues or problems and be able to contact the contractor 5k miles away and have it addressed.

Did you do it? How was the result?

But when you start selling the content you make on a drone, or fly a drone for any business related thing, that is a completly different story.

But now I see electricians, plummers, painters earn half of what I earn (I'm 45) but with just a 3 month course. I guess govt. printed so much money, anyone can become rich doing almost anuthing than a 9 to 5 job.
What is your offer and how did you initially contact your first few clients? Very interested in the course also!
Good Stuff!!!! Thank You. I just sold my Mini 2. In your opinion should I get the mini 3 pro or the air 3 for projects like this one you showed. I’m not worried about cost. It’s more about comfort for me. Thanks
Awesome video, just got a DJI Avata 2. But my question is about Luma AI. I have an account, but dont see anywhere to trun video into 3D model, or are you just using a prompt?
an you go over a few potential ways to hook up with a client? Is it the realtor? or the construction GC? Who do you contact to make the sale?
@dylangorman what kinda computer are you using? PC or Mac. What are minimum specs for the 3D map rendering?
This is all in the cloud so you can use whatever modern computer form 2012 and up!
Awesome video. Thank you much for sharing it. Would you please create a video as to what are you best tips for pitching clients from the get-go? Are these contracts you set with clients? How are the agreements disclosed? Does the client set the amount of weeks to drone-shot the site or do you do that? Please advise and thank you.
Working on getting my Part 107, really interested in this space. I would love to learn more.
What kind of properties would this be best for? Do you think it would work with commercial projects (ie apartment complexes)?
Can you do a video on the pull process… getting your part 107, applying to access into specific spaces, all that kind of stuff. I live near an airport and would love to get my license and do this for the property I’m currently renting air. Dji is just so controlled with their geofencing. I can’t even practice in my yard due to a 0ft hard deck
Are you not allowed to, or will the drone not operate?
@@ItsCalilum The drone will refuse to take off.
@@mataskart9894 That's crazy. I have the Mavic Air 2; I get warnings depending on my location, but it's never not flown .. even near an airport.
Hey! Love the video! I wanted to say, I cant seem to see where to use photogrammetry on lumalabs, was it removed?
The most important thing to actually make money in the first place is how to do the advertising and actually get people interested in the first place
What if there are properties that desire drone footage in an authorization zone? What work arounds would you suggest?
You get an authorization to fly. These two properties were in an authorization zone so I had to get my approval to fly in it.
So to get started exactly other than my drone, gopro, what else do you recommend if using a iPad Pro for editing ?
I shoot video for a 4-season resort area. Not sure how you'd incorportate this into your pricing model, but I have an Insta 360 one x2 and flew it around a 65 mile lakefront for the real estate agency I work for and am in the process of connecting each of the takes into one massive 360 video to help with sales of lakefront property
You will need a bigger drone to fly it. I used a mavic pro first gen and a 3d printed bracket
great video. how did you get the video at the very top of your website to appear as the background??
It lets me set a video as the background rather than having a color
@@DylanGorman yes, but how do you put a "video" in the background? MP4 or GIF?
You recomend the go pro max over the insta 360 x3?
I recommend whatever 360 camera you can afford. I have 3 of the GoPro Max cameras so that’s why I use them.
@@DylanGormani have never owned a 360 and i have some clients asking about doing video virtual tours. Didn't realize it was possible to do that with the 360 camera. Thanks man loving your content.
Great video and information.
Crazy question tho how do you edit the drone footage for RUclips shorts or for TikTok. I tried to just change the landscape but it gets super blurry and looks bad
my question is how do you get a client. and is that like a real estate company or what?
Awesome content but I'm curios is the interactive 3D model suppose to look so cartoon or clay like? The pics are great but the 3D models doesn't look presentable.
Would the DJI spark work for now until I get a new one? What do you like to use to send image files to clients ?
I'm an old guy looking for a side hustle and happened upon your tutorials. Great work Dylan!
Hi Man this was an amazing demonstration of what we are capable to create now days with drones and 360 cameras, one thing that I did not get is how you transform this into a monthly subscription to the client? so you are charging 500 dollars per month for hosting all of that and obviously creating the website etc? and if your client already have the website and ask for the data to be sent to he web site manager? only so how the subscription business model could work?
I own the website and create this service to keep everything uniform. They pay for an easy to look at website where I provide all the data hosting, data gathering and processing.
Mm ok, so that's considering that property owner does not have a real state company with that process already implemented on the process of selling the property right?? Hard to tell how to target those clients considering that the real state company will tell them that they already have that setup for them when they sign up with the real state agency, how how do you target those clients?? In my case the real state company already have a package setup with a media company to do that for them but here in New Zealand Wanaka they do more conventional stuff real state foto é traditional video not 360 viddo photo tour or fpv or 3d modeling... etc...
@DylanGorman another thing is why they would go to my website if they are selling through a real state company website??? That just does ot make sense to me can't see how I can sell this idea, however great demonstration of drone and 360 shots capabilities thanks!
do you think you can make the 3d model with a fpv drone aswell or does the ai need constant speed for this
as a roofmaker this is very interesting im doing roofinspection via drone alrdy but 3d models of objects would be the next step up
FPV drone will work too for this, it’s just extracting frames from the video to create the model
@@DylanGorman i just tested it with both dji camera drone and fpv cinewhoop
the scan from the dji orbit had better results
but i guess thats cause my fpv skills arent that good yet and the orbit was a bit wonky
not sure what makes a good scan
i want to scan buildings so i guess camera drone is good for that but i will test both on buildings when i get a chance for that
i noticed that the scan from one single orbit flight seems to be lacking data i guess you have to do orbits in different hights to get better scan data
How do you get the customer?
