  • “Mere Paas Maa Hai” “I have my mother with me”.
An iconic dialogue from Deewaar released in 1975 (Director - Yash Chopra, Starring - Amitabh
Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Parveen Babi, Nirupa Roy )
This dialogue became a part of the speech Rahman gave after receiving Oscar for Slumdog
Millionaire. At the 81st Academy Award held at the Kodak Theatre, Slumdog Millionaire
received 8 Oscars. It included 2 Oscars for A.R. Rahman (Original Score and Original Song).
Rahman credited his mother for everything he achieved. And why not?
His mother had been the centre of his universe since the day he lost his father in 1977.
15 years later in 1992 came Roja. (Director - Mani Ratnam, Starring - Arvind Swami, Madhoo,
Nassar, Pankaj Kapur, Produced by K. Balachander).
Roja changed the very syntax of film music in India.
While the nation was humming along the tunes of Roja, Rahman was composing for his debut film in Hindi Rangeela (Director - Ram Gopal Varma, Starring - Amir Khan, Jackie Shroff and Urmila Matondkar)
It was at this juncture when Rahman got married to Saira Banu. The marriage brought its own set of challenges.
Life taught a lot to Rahman. But what does he teach to his children!
In this unusual episode Rahman goes back in time to recall challenges he had to face, and
    circumstances that changed him.#RahmanMusicSheets - Episode 39

Such sensitive topic you handled so well. For youngsters it’s important to study struggle than just admire success. Losing a parent is tough.
But fathers blessings continue to be with him-- bless his success

People especially in India, follow celebrities in their day to day life. At some places that treatment goes beyond limits. Making temples, doing puja, poring milk, donating blood etc etc.
But many celebrities now a days don't have good offscreen habits that people can really adhere or follow to.
Ar Rahman sir is completely different. Being an international icon, he never forget his roots.
"yetra naryanthi pujyathe tatra vasathi devatha". Where a woman is respected, there lives god.
He loves his mother, his sisters, his work, his tamil, his people. that is why music lord made him 'god of music'.
He showed his love towards his mother on oscar stage. Showed his love towards his mother tongue by uttering tamil on that stage. and he showed his love towards his country by producing one of mind blowing "vande mataram" album
His respect towards others always visible in his talks and action. Whether they are junior or senior or peer to him
He is the true celebrity that youngsters can follow. Not only learning music but also other ample quaties made him as a great person.
"love all serve all" is what sathya sai baba says.
And ARR implements in his own style.
Someone who doesn't for get his hurdle past and still keep his/her feet on the floor even after gaining stardom is a true star.
    Ar Rahman is true star.

Very touching episode. Can't control my tears. ARR has achieved success inspite of so many hardships and difficult times. I feel, that could be the reason that his music still has that touch of sadness / melancholy feel and that makes his music touch the deepest corner of the listeners heart. It has been second birth for me from the time I came in touch with his music ( Roja 1992). Thereafter Life has been beautiful. God bless AR Rahman, God bless his devoted Fans worldover ! Jai HO !

Again one of the very best episodes to watch. In between celebrating his music, his authentic life story needs to be narrated and atleast if not all, a few and major glimpses from the past and foundation of his life can be shared. This episode has very much lived to that aspect!
If his music can be made as a vast encyclopaedia, his life story has every element and every high and low point that can be touched upon for a perfect biopic of a person. The role of faith, hope, wisdom, positivity, spirituality, compassion, gratitude, love and many more a part in his life is a great lesson in itself that you don't get even from the biggest universities of the world.
The whole world, in every word about this man's hi'story' can only write the glory of a human life and there cannot be a place for anything else. Many thanks for bringing us a heart wrenching episode of this global Indian Mozart! Truly, lot to learn and learn and is itself is like getting a blessing from up there! 🙏

Yes, I feel though there are a few kind ppl, I somewhere read that within his family it's just them and hardly any from their relatives have supported them even in such tough times.
It will feel like the end of the world for anyone when such storms come one after the other. Though, it is not covered here, I read Rahman even had suicidal thoughts at one time. So, to rise from such a low point to the highest in one's life always makes for an interesting biopic.
So, except for his music, let's not single him out with things saying he's blessed and so could overcome them all easily as he too have gone through the same or way more difficulties than a common man has! Period.

This episode for me was also an emotional journey. Although I did not lose my father as early as ARR did, the loss of a parent - I also lost my mother a few years after my father's demise- hits you, however old you may be, and I can understand why ARR was reticent to talk about the darkest phase in his life. I also notice that Umesh Agarwal did not push ARR beyond a point, but did come back to it later in the episode, by which time ARR had already talked of his marriage and his kids, and the subject cropped up quite naturally towards the end of the episode, when ARR was able to talk about his father. And though he missed school education, he shows gratitude for the way his father initiated ARR into music, albeit the fact that this happened after his father was nomore! A very emotional episode.

I wish I never had seen this episode.
    It's just disturbing...
I couldn't connect with his answers, I feel he sounded more like rock.
Somewhere I'm feeling like he just trying to be good stable and great everywhere...which is, being a human, impossible. 😑

Rahman of the 90s used to talk less, make less public appearances and speak through his music. Today's Rahman talks more nonsense and his music sounds weird. What a fall of a legend.

I feel Sorry for your negative comments. A.R. Rahman is speaking about real life and how he handled challenges...🙏We always need to see what we are blessed with and not what we are denied" What an attitude!!

Your one of them who sees only glamour only superficiality and want to ignore the darkness, the realities of his life. Sorry for you.
