To be honest Tu hi re song from Bombay was initially recorded in Chithra ji’s voice but there was a heavy compulsion on Rahman ji from universial music that he had used more south indian voices in the Hindi dubbed version, so A R Rahman immediately called chithra ji and asked her permission before removing her voice and dubbed her voice with Kavitha ji. This was the incident explained by chithra ji herself in her interviews. How effortlessly chithraji has sung the original Tamil version. In Live performances also she sings so perfectly those high notes. Rahman ji has told many times that this song was made for chithra ji only.
Very true.. I heard in a Malayalam interview where ARR took permission from chitra ma due to compulsion from Bollywood industry .. actually no doubt that in Hindi also chitra Amma was no 1 choice for this song..
No one can match the pitch with Chitra Chechi. Chitra chechi had already raised the benchmark with the high notes in the original Tamil and Hindi one. Unfortunately the Hindi version never saw the light. I wish A r rahman releases the unheard Chitra Chechi hindi version someday.
@@mlg1279 She was born and brought in Delhi and that too she was established hindi film singer during that time. Her father was Tamilian and mother was Bengali. Even Hariharan ji was also a Tamilian but he was born and brought up in Mumbai. He was more into Hindi films during that time. That production company want hindi film singers but not South Indian film singers.
Correction. The problem wasn't that he had used more "South Indian voices", the problem was only "South Indian voices which were unheard of in North". It is sad and I wished Chithramma was more popular in North, but ultimately music making is a business....and in 1990s, Chithramma was not a force in Hindi music, hence the record company would have thought that the Hindi dubbed soundtrack of Bombay wouldn't sell just based on Chithramma's name, and they needed Kavithamma on board as well because she was a more leading force in Hindi film music at the time. Being South Indian was NEVER a problem, being South Indian who was not known in North was the problem, it was about money making and commerce.
When Kavitaji says she found those notes tough to hit. That means with proper throw of voice and pitch not like contemporary music artist who enhance the throw and correct pitch with autotuner and when you here them raw they just cannot sing their own songs. So graceful of her to accept her probable shortcomings. Great person.
Dear Mr. Rupendr M. So right you are. It's only a person of Kavitji's calibre who will go on record that she found those lines to be extremely high on scale. What a delight it was to intercat with her. Hope you have subscribed to the cahnnel. Also kindly share it with your community, family, friends and groups, Regards.
Kavita Krishnamurthi ji mentioned exactly what I mentioned in my previous comments. ARR knows where to give weightage to instruments and for vocal. His freedom to singers brings out enough emotions to the song which will fit perfectly to the movie. Just imagine how much ARR brilliant but at the same time humble is that so many great artists like him and love to work with him. Fear of god (not fear of religion ) , dedication of work, respect to elders , love towards mother and his hard work broke all barriers to achieve things many people can't even imagine. He is the magnetic mountain and any who has small rust of music sense should get attracted to his work. A well deserve bharat ratna. Look at, 36 episodes and we are still talking about Bombay music and haven't yet completed 10% of his work yet. The reason his almost all of his albums have different unique outcomes with lot of history involved. Great to see o2india trying to bring those behind the scenes and especially the experience of artists and directors of past.
Dear Mr. Sridhar. Yes we remember your comment last week and even earlier. You have always been very precise. It's a delight to read your comments. Thanks once agin for watching and sharing your thoughts. Regards.
Dear Mr. Sarath, We are in touch with all the stalwarts who have collabortaed with Mr. Rahman. We hope to bring all of them on this show. Needless to say Chithra Mam And Ms. Sujata Mohan are integral part of that list. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Please subscribe to the channel. Dear Mr. Mehmood. Mr. Sreedhar is greatly missed by Mr. Rahman and his team. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Please subscribe to the channel. Share it with your family members, friends & groups. Regards.
She or Chitra mam should be among the first of singers to speak for ARR instead of Alka Yagnik coz that's what a typical ARR fan expects to listen from a singer who's also like another die hard fan of him, not someone who pretends to be ignorant of who he is and his musical magic 🪄. Loved the way how she went so much in detail explaining every small that happened during their recording sessions and she didn't forget to mention his sound engineers and music conductors as well. She too was a senior singer and yet she was quite aware of the influence that he and Mani Ratnam together can wield. Also, waiting to see the next episode on how well she compares Rahman's style with that of Ilaiyaraja's. She's the third person in this series to do so after Mani Ratnam and RGV! One regret is how she smartly evaded to mention the original female singer of Tu hi re, Chitra ma'am. Esp. the point where she was talking about having the original references of Tamil (even Telugu) songs before her and was talking at length about Hariharan, Srinivas Murty, H. Sridhar, Mani Ratnam but didn't mention who sung the same song before her and the two high notes. Would give her five ✨⭐ ⭐ had she mentioned Chitra chechi too and a few good words about her. But overall, a sweet interview by another humble singer about our beloved epitome of music and humility, ARR!!
Dear Mr. Srinivas. We really admire your affection towards Mr. Rahman and his music. How you have followed his work. We are honoured to have viewers like you. Regards
I think by that time, even the recording of the female voice for tu hi re song in Tamil was pending. The only reference available was Hariharan's recorded but yet to ve finalized piece of song.
Tu hi re, Ishq Bina, Pyaar yeh jaane kaisa hai, dheeme dheeme gaaon, main albeli , kay sera sera, sunta hai mera khuda - AR Rahman and Kavita ji has delivered classics after classics
@@randheerkumarannarapu4476 yes...the Ishq Bina that comes during the climax of Taal with western orchestration is sung by Kavita ji. Please check yourself
@@debayudhchatterjee5961 true that , even though Kavitaji is my most favourite singer, this particular version never stuck with me.Had to go back and listen to it, she was fab , but still the other version feels somehow good! Also , that is rare that I do not prefer something sung by the greatest Kavita Krishnamurthy Subramaniam! :) Thank you for making me go back to the soundtrack of Taal Mr. Debayudh! (btw nice name )! ;)
@@randheerkumarannarapu4476 Infact, that's the important song in a way from a movie standpoint and ARR's stupenduous orchestrations coupled with her Aalaaps towards the end gives you goosebumps every time you 👂 to them. Ofcrs, I like both versions. Each have their own beauty. Even Kavitaji's Ishq bina version starts like a slow melody and ends up like a storm! This is that climax song which lifts the whole movie to the climax twist!
@ananth srinivas Do not differ with you one bit ! Definitely the most important song and also I can't say I do not like the emotions flowing in Kavitaji's voice being her biggest fan! Maybe being a South Indian I have heard most of the compositions in Chitramma's or Sujatha Mohan's voice (the latter having the most number of recordings with ARR than anyone else), I must have got used to the Sujatha Mohan's version of this song! That being said , I like many many Hindi versions of the South songs by Kavitaji also like Tu hi re , Ek ladki thi , kucchi kucchi Rakamma ! Only wished ARR gave more songs to her 😊
Definitely one of the better episodes Kavitaji's reference to Pancham to demonstrate how RD and ARR were ahead of their times is very appropriate. And she shows how ARR managed to get the best out of a singer. And she is right when she notes that ARR knew how much music should go in a note to ensure the singer's voice is not drowned. Every episode is very revealing Keep it going!

Pancham, Rahman, and Ilaiyaraaja are all 3 geniuses, they each had their own influences that they brought to the table. Raja and Pancham usage of early electronic instruments in their music must've been very inspirational to Rahman who seems to soak up musical knowledge like a sponge

I will tell you the difference between a legend and a music director .. and guys I’m not making this up .. this question was asked by a reporter to both ARR and Mr. Raja on how they feel about the each other as both won the Padma Bhushan award at the same time .. ARRs humble response was that he feels honoured to be awarded at the same time as the legendary Ilaiyaraja And you know what Mr. Raja’s response was … ? He said, why are you asking me this, ask him how he feels. I am very happy that I won this award!!! See, humility is what makes someone a legend and that’s why Mr. Raja can never ever reach the heights of ARR!!! Period!!!
Unfortunately, ARR is yet to receive his Padma Vibhushan 👑 unlike Raja sir. But if he brings atleast half a genius like him from KM Conservatory, he will be most eligible to receive Bharat Ratna too!
With all due respect and love for Sreenivas Moorthy sir and H Sreedhar sir. Their contribution to Indian music industry is remarkable.. Both these Legends were working with many other music composers way before they were working with ARR.. But none of the songs in the history of Indian cinema were sounded that bliss as Roja until Roja has happened.. No matter what people says, A R Rahman is an unparalleled genius… A genius for obvious reasons.

I don't know which song of Raja's she will mention but she did Muthirai Eppothu in 1993 (Uzhaipaali) and it was not one of his best songs. I wonder if he was even in the recording theater or it was a full Karthik Raja or assistant affair. Not that she is likely to mention it publicly if that was the case. ;) I have written a book Raga 2 Rock on film music in which 1/3 of the book is devoted to Ilayaraja and Rahman. No comparison of R D sir with Raja sir. The instrumentation that has done by Raja sir was totally incomparable. He can write symphony. Ilaiyaraaja is music genius maestro. His league is completely different from other composers
The theme music Kavitha sang for is not this theme music as this Theme music doesnt have any voices. The track she and Shankar Mahadevan sang was a bgm track in the movie. It was not released in the cds or cassettes. Yes, those 2 lines was very high. ARR songs usually will have these kind of challenges. A true genius!

Regards.
This series wouldn’t be complete without KS Chitra and Sujatha Mohan. Those two have sung maximum songs of AR Rahman Sir.
Share it with your family members, friends & groups. Regards.
@@O2india Please do consider Drums stalwart Sivamani sir as well.. He was one of AR sir's closer circle !
True. Both have done some marvellous songs with ARR
Now Chitra ji interview Released in September 2022
Sound engineer, Mr. Sreedhar.. the missing link in A R Rahman's music these days..
Dear Mr. Mehmood.
Ishq Bina wasn't sung by kavitaji! 😊
Only wished ARR gave more songs to her 😊
Definitely one of the better episodes
Kavitaji's reference to Pancham to demonstrate how RD and ARR were ahead of their times is very appropriate. And she shows how ARR managed to get the best out of a singer. And she is right when she notes that ARR knew how much music should go in a note to ensure the singer's voice is not drowned. Every episode is very revealing
Keep it going!
Dear Mr. Nagpal. Thank you very much. We are glad that you always notice the fine nuances that our guests mention. Warm Regards
Tu hi re, what a composition, like Kavithaji rightly said that song still haunts me 😍😍😍
Dear Sir. You are absolutely right. This song is timeless. Even after 25+ years it continues to haunt. Thanks for watching nad sharing your thoughts. Regards
Actually that song sang by chitra ji
This is the best episode because it was all her talking... she is not just a great musician but also a great narrator.

We the people of Tamilnadu are more blessed to have God’s child A R Rahman than the people of rest of Tamilnadu.
She is so talented as well as smart.
Loved how Kavitaji went into the details of her experience on 'Bombay' especially the high note one. It excites us more about ARR. Would like to hear more from her.
Dear Mr. Sonawane. Thank you. If you read comments by many of our viewers, you will realise almost all of them share your opinion. Swarnalatha is surely missed....one section on how ARR made haunting melodies with her.....he has the knack of making female singers high notes n the way they deliver it....second example is Anuradha paudwal in kismet se

ARRs humble response was that he feels honoured to be awarded at the same time as the legendary Ilaiyaraja
And you know what Mr.
It's bcoz Rahman was a student of Raja sir
With all due respect and love for Sreenivas Moorthy sir and H Sreedhar sir. Their contribution to Indian music industry is remarkable.. Both these Legends were working with many other music composers way before they were working with ARR.. But none of the songs in the history of Indian cinema were sounded that bliss as Roja until Roja has happened.. No matter what people says, A R Rahman is an unparalleled genius…
A genius for obvious reasons.
We missed Shridhar sir for this series..........

I don't know which song of Raja's she will mention but she did Muthirai Eppothu in 1993 (Uzhaipaali) and it was not one of his best songs. I wonder if he was even in the recording theater or it was a full Karthik Raja or assistant affair. Not that she is likely to mention it publicly if that was the case. ;)
I have written a book Raga 2 Rock on film music in which 1/3 of the book is devoted to Ilayaraja and Rahman. Pl do check it out if you are a fan of either or both. I cannot promise that you will like it because that is subjective, but at the very least, you will find it interesting. :)

Can we get someone from Yash Raj production to talk as they did a movie with him
Ilayaraja is RD burman of southern music
But RD Burman was very humble! No head weight!!
No comparison of R D sir with Raja sir. The instrumentation that has done by Raja sir was totally incomparable. He can write symphony. Ilaiyaraaja is music genius maestro. His league is completely different from other composers
Nevertheless, ARR is Ilaiyaraja's Symphony + Panchamda's melody + Michael Jackson's New age sound!
@@joharmuhammad2786 n rd burman also loves capati but raja loves thosai... 😀 i thought the discussion is about music..
