- Berklee College of Music, Boston, USA. The largest independent college of contemporary music
in the world. It was A R Rahman’s dream to learn music here.
But in 1991, he was about to join Berklee when Mani Ratnam offered him Roja.
He chose Roja. Rest is history.
But destiny brought him to Berklee in 2014.
In recognition of Rahman’s musical legacy, his original scores and songs in films, Berklee
College of Music conferred on Rahman an honorary doctorate of Music degree.
To mark the occasion, 109 artists from 71 countries came together for the Berklee Tribute
Concert for AR Rahman.
In 2016, Fukuoka, one of the largest cities and gateway to Japan honored Rahman with Fukuoka
Grand Prize. Since 1990, Fukuoka Grand Prize has been awarded to many Indians - for
preserving and creating Asian Culture. Earlier recipients were - Pt. Ravi Shankar, Amjad Ali
Khan, Ashis Nandy, Vandana Shiva, P. Sainath.
In 2018, at the Bollywood Parks, Dubai, 1000 girls came together to perform Vande Mataram. It
was an unusual tribute that Rahman cherishes till this date.

सीखना उनका सपना था।
1991 में वे बर्कली में शामिल होने ही वाले थे कि मणि रत्नम ने

रहमान को बर्कली कॉलेज ऑफ म्यूजिक और रोजा में से किसी एक को चुनना पड़ा ।
इसके साथ ही एक नया इतिहास रचा गया।
लेकिन नियति उन्हें 2014 में बर्कली ले आई।
रहमान की संगीत विरासत, उनके मूल स्कोर और फिल्मों में गीतों की मान्यता में, बर्कली कॉलेज ऑफ़ म्यूज़िक ने रहमान को संगीत की मानद उपाधि (honorary Doctorate of Music Degree) से सम्मानित किया।
इसअवसपर बर्कली ट्रिब्यूट कॉन्सर्ट का आयोजन किया गया।
ए आर रहमान के लिए 71 देशों के 109 कलाकार एक साथ आए।
2016 , जापान के सबसे बड़े शहरों में से एक और जापान के प्रवेश द्वार - फुकुओका, ने रहमान को फुकुओका ग्रैंड पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया।
1990 के बाद से, एशियाई संस्कृति के निर्माण और संरक्षण के लिए कई भारतीयों को फुकुओका ग्रैंड पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।
पं. रविशंकर, अमजद अली खान, आशीष नंदी, वंदना शिवा, पी. साईनाथ को ये पुरूस्कार दिया गया।
2016 में ये पुरस्कार दिया गया ए आर रहमान को।
2018 में दुबई के बॉलीवुड पार्क्स में वंदेमातरम के लिए 1000 लड़कियां एक साथ आईं।

Goosebumps … every time I see the Dubai tribute .. it really is done soo well!! Vande Mataram was such an important composition. I remember seeing this song instead of newsreels which used to be played in cinemas. The song was played even before national news on Doordarshan! This album still remains my favourite and not just the title song, even “Gurus of peace” and “Only you” were simply brilliant from the same album! I always wished they had music videos as well 😊

Really, had they picturised a video for 'Gurus of Peace' ☮️ too featuring both Nusrat Saab and Rahman Saab, it would've been another spectacular feast cherished by all his fans for ages.
Well, the ARR's version of original Vande Mataram has also been picturised, though as I remember also seeing that at that time.
Rarely we find people who can inspire all age. Such as Sachin , Amitab Bachhan etc..
ARR sir is so kind and talented person that every one gets attracted to him.
Many of his compositions such as "Chanda suraj" from vande mataram, Chiku baku song , pudhiya from robo starts with voice of kids. That makes the song different and even kids would love to enjoy. "Chiku baku song" is discussed even today for using kid voice. And lot at the contrast , a complete old people vocal is used in "Rukkumani " song.
This proofs how good he is in his field of music.
There is no wonder that doctorates can come easily even without attending classes. Because is became master yet tying to learn new things. The recent example is composition of "miss haina" song for heropanthi 2 is a clear youth techno track

I think this is The episode where cover songs are celebrated and can't be pointed at. Well, as we the fans know that these are all more of heartfelt tributes to ARR which were also close to him and not done for self promotions!
Keep it up O2 India, we need refreshing episodes like this once in a while as we continue listening to his dream saga that only legends are made up of!!
It's surprising in a very strange way how the people of Japan liked the music and movie of Muthu so much above all his other compositions. Well, this is one more proof how he's so international in his music even though when the songs had such a strong local flavour. Case in point is the featured song's entry Bgm of Oruvan Oruvan from Muthu where the starting music is soooooo magnanimous and majestic as it sounds like he belongs to the league of great world-class musicians like Mozart or Yanni. The whole song on the other level is so rooted in local rural folk, this one Bgm had just won hearts world over and will always be remembered as one of the stamps of his musical genius!
Eagerly looking forward to Deepa Mehta's take on Rahman and what she shares with us being a path breaking lady director herself!

I very well remember He also had done the cover music for the Spirit of National Music and Arts cultural programs (not very sure of it's name) which sounds so much like the earlier Rahman we heard in Roja. Simple, plain and elegant sounds that haunt you even though it hardly lasts 2 mins i guess. That tune very much reminds of the early musical genius who sounds so fresh like a new born in that piece. Every time I listen it, I get awestruck by it!
