- "College Kids" SHIELD Agent Phil Coulson^W^W^W^W FBI Agent Mike Casper (Clark Gregg) informs the President of a lead on methamphetamine production may have led the Bureau to the Kennison State University (UIowa) bombers. He advises that tractor starter fluid will definitely kill you, but first you'll get pretty high.
The President passes his new recreational discovery on to Admiral Fitzwallace (John Amos,) the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, "All right, are you guys getting strippers or something?" Then they discuss a plan of disinformation to sabotage a Qumari attempt to frame Israel for the assassination of Abdul Sharif.
"Is this going to get ridiculous?"
"Absolutely."
That's not Agent Casper; that's Agent Coulson keeping tabs on the White House. SHIELD is everywhere, Mr. President.
This HAS to be the role that landed Gregg Coulson.
Watching him as Fitzwallace, you almost forget that John Amos was on Good Times, but then he hits you with perfectly delivered one-liners that are, dare I say, dynomite.
"we don't give disinformation to American press... Unless it's about my medical history."
Bartlett: Is this going to get ridiculous?
Fitzwallace: Absolutely.
So many laugh out loud lines in such a short sequence. Genius writing, gifted actors... Every now and then the stars line up and give you something like The West Wing.
Thanks for posting this.
So lemme get this straight, Bartlet had Phil Coulson AND Leroy Jethro Gibbs on his staff. How were there any bad guys still ALIVE or not in prison?
That moment when you realize Tony Stark was right....his first name IS "Agent"
This IS Coulson. He is just undercover.
Here's the thing: that scene with Fitz? It's so brilliant, and to quote Robin Williams, so sublime it's almost subliminal. Only Fitz and Bartlet could bring the funny to a serious conversation about espionage - and yet read each others' sarcasm as a method of getting through it. And yet, nothing was lost: there's gravitas, there's honesty, and there's...tractor fluid and strippers. Topped off with a self deprecating comment from Bartlet about his MS scandal. Is there nothing this show didn't do?
Clark Gregg never ages.
"Allergy medicine and tractor fluid we're getting high on now."
"Allergy medicine and tractor fluid were getting high on now."
President Bartlett: Is this going to get ridiculous?
"Is this going to get ridiculous?"
I love how the Joint Chiefs grew to respect Bartlett so much over the series. At first, and even he admitted, he had little to no military experience. However, the Bartlett character had the rare ability to grow and learn from his mistakes. By the end, Generals and military experts would snap-to at his, usually correct, military and diplomatic analysis on things.
I liked the nuance of a guy who owns three stores knew what was going on and reported it. So often that will be huge.
Loved Admiral Fitzwallace.
Too much genius in this short scene to highlight here - just watch it again. Amazing.
John Amos; an all time favorite!
Everyone in this scene is a goddamn national treasure
