I love Ron, he was always just right. I wonder what the actual Secret Service thought of his performance - of course, they wouldn't comment on procedure.

Michael was perfectly cast as the head of Bartlet's detail. One of my favorite characters on the show. This scene has got to be one of my favorites.

I love his little pause before the "thank you". He has mixed feelings about last night too; he is absolutely certain that not commenting on the tent is correct, but he surely feels a mix of pride at getting the shooters, and guilt that the President was still shot, and anger that he has a hole in his hand, and resentment at political/PR concerns interfering with his job, and appreciation for Toby's sentiment, and sharing Toby's embarrassment that "great job" doesn't begin to cover it, and above all professionalism and determination, all coming together for that "thank you".

"Let me go over there and tell them it was my fault."
You really feel how guilty Toby feels. Great acting.

Security is tough i mean you want the President protected but President needs to be an accessible figure and its always that balancing act. I mean coming from the testimony from presidents children it must be tough because they have all these security measures and no longer can just do and go anywhere they want and privacy itself is at a minimum. I mean we take our own privacy for granted but when your a public figure all that goes away.

Definitely great acting. In real life, politicos never want to take responsibility for anything when it goes wrong.

I won't accept blame or logistics or casting stones in the press, but I will graciously accept a heartfelt "Good job last night."

Toby was smart. He offered, he offered alternates, he got the message.

@@julieenslow5915 I like this exchange in professionalism because each one understood there role Both Toby and The Secret Service did their jobs and they recognize that in one another.

It just occurred to me that Butterfield has his right hand held up but not in a sling. Jacket open.... he was carrying his service weapon still and wanted his left hand free to use it if needed....

You know what, above maybe all else, is what I’ve always truly admired about The West Wing? Actually seeing highly competent, matter-of-fact people doing their job as a matter of course. Doing their job masterfully, without boasting (well, besides the kegs and donuts and stuff ...)
But seriously, I love almost every aspect of TWW, from the storylines, to the amazing dialogues, the acting, the ridiculous attention to detail, from the morality of the protagonists to the silly yet highly intelligent jokes and puns.
But this constant showing of high competency is just so ... quietly inspiring.
