- LEO: Andrew Jackson, in the main foyer of the White House, had a big block of cheese. The block of cheese was huge.... The block of cheese was two-tons, and was there for any and all who might be hungry. It was there for the voiceless, the faceless...
"A little thing called team morale. You gotta make people feel good about themselves." *Opens door* "Alright, shut the hell up! I fired more people than you before breakfast!" Best line ever!!
Absolutely amazing! 🤣
Margaret's timing with the head shake and nod is perfect :-)
+brit1958ian Amen- such an underrated character- "One egg is an eouf was a classic, as well as forging the President's signature!
I loved the story she told about the muffin emails bringing down the White House servers and Leo shouting out "enough, i tried to hang in for some time etc etc"
Margret (and sometimes Donna too) was also standing at the door when he yelled for her. She was like Radar from M.A.S.H.
I don't think the "bit players" on this show got enough credit. The acting was Class A all the way down to the extras.
Love how everyone groans immediately when Leo says “Andrew Jackson..” 😂
"And a wheat thin the size of lake Tahoe." Love it. :)
"Alright! Shut the hell up everybody! I fired more people than you before breakfast!"
Hell of a team morale speech there Leo.
Fucking Leo McGarry! Of all his amazing moments, it is this one that shows how much patience he actually has, never once raising his voice and in the end, after all the smart remarks have been exchanged, still delivering his Block of Cheese speech.
Love though how Toby comes in on a rant and just takes over cutting through Leo! Brilliant acting!
I LOVE IT! Margaret's head shake and head nod were absolutely PERFECT, and Toby/CJ's banter, and Josh and Donna, and the attempted trades, and Leo was the BOSS throughout (and not just because he literally WAS everybody else's boss as the Deputy Chief of Staff). Thanks for posting this!
not Deputy
Yeah, Josh was the Deputy Chief of Staff (for Strategic Planning).
Notice that the other staffers don't throw Margaret under the bus despite her shaking her head "no". I get the sense they're all in it together versus Leo! Haw-haw!
For a drama The West Wing at times made me laugh more than comedies did. Great writing can do that.
I really want to think that despite disliking it as a staffer, Josh carried on this tradition as CoS
But I’m sure he called it Total Crackpot Day. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
In memory of Leo he kept the tradition and gave the speech, even had platters of cheese brought in, not two tons though
I know I prob know this, but humor me... What does CoS stand for?
Chief of staff
@@TheDiggster13 thanks!
With all the incredible actors here, NiCole Robinson steals the scene with just a shake of the head. Brilliant!
Josh's delivery on the Wheat Thin comment makes me wish that he and Matthew Perry had had scenes together. Their dry humor would've been so compatible.
It is a bit late, and not sure if you're aware but they did have a whole series together on another Sorkin show called "Studio 60". I really liked that show as well but it only got 1 season as it kinda got screwed by a writers strike that year that killed any momentum it had.
I absolutely loved Studio 60 - Matthew Perry & Bradley Whitford were magic together!
I hate that it only got one season.. I know if given more time it could have been huge.
I can't even find it anywhere.. is it on a streaming service that anyone knows of?
They did have scenes together, though. Unless you meant more scenes together...
"You wanna make out with me right now, don't you?"
"Well, when don't I?"
I legit had this exchange with a friend one time.
Yeah, who wouldn't?
"Andrew Jackson"--*groans*
I adored John Spencer.
Fuck. I wanted to hear more about the cheese.
Love Margaret in this scene.
+Annabeth Grace Was there ever a scene that Margaret was in where she wasn't great?
She's the one character I wanted to see leave the series and get her own spinoff.
Oh, the funniest part is not even spoken. Margaret is the funniest West wing character even without speaking!
That scene: a masterpiece of snark and sarcasm. "And a wheat thin the size of Lake Tahoe"
"And a Wheat Thin the size of Lake Tahoe"
Knowing Andrew Jackson, there is literally a 0% chance he never fired a bullet into that block of cheese
You knew Andrew Jackson? Are you really Ronald Reagan in disguise?
This was the most well-written series of all time.
Toby, "My sisters took me."
The only person who I could pull that line off
"You wanna make out with me right now, don't you?"
"Well, when don't I?"
This is my most favorite exchange in series.
Well, it’s CJ. Who wouldn’t?
This is my favourite too! Toby and Cj have so much chemistry
"Well, when don't I?"
... 😳
No cameras at a rally...different times. And this was only 15 years ago.
i would quit retirement and return to work if there ever was an office with dialogue and snarkery such as this....
This is the only time Toby mentions his sisters; in later seasons there's a lot made about his brother, David, but he only mentions his sisters in this episode.
At least one of them was mentioned in “Holy Night”.
I lost it when Margaret shook her head.
Leo- the next person to interrupt my cheese story can find a new job, see if I am bluffing. Ask Larry at the coffee shop if I'm bluffing.
After CJ Margaret is my favorite character. She is really awesome!!!
You guys gotta watch the map video where cj meets with the cartographers for social equality. It's life-changing
Love this clip. Josh + Donna, Toby/CJ banter... *sigh*
The first two lines.. Oh God so much awesomeness xD
"So now you have two choices: meeting with an unruly mob or meeting with lunatic mapmakers" LOL
I just watched this episode again today. I love the bit with the Cartographers for Social Equality. lol
"No, I'm wondering where France really is."
I love the Bg Block of Cheese speech
"A Wheat Thin the size of Lake Tahoe." 😂🤣😂
Ah....Big Block of Cheese Day.....good times, my friends, good times indeed!
It sounds like something out of Parks and Recreation.
This was a huge missed opportunity for Josh Lyman’s line to be “and a triscuit the size of Lake Tahoe.”
IYKYK
I’m sure this tradition continued when C.J. and Josh were Chief of Staff
Leo only have one motivation speech and Is never allow to finish it
Nah. “This is an environment of welcoming and you should get the hell out.” Michael Scott.
That’s a line.
Damn I miss this show.
0:57 is all of us just going with the flow
Toby's meeting with the unruly mob was pretty cool. They were all against free trade, and he beats them into silence by simply telling them free trade prevents wars. Somebody post that scene, if possible. Thanks.
Yeah, that scene aged so well. How's the free trade with China going?
"It was there for the hungry, it was there for the voiceless, it was there for the lactose intolerant."
:)
Margaret! lol
Total crackpot day
How do you make a two ton block of cheese? Seems like it would be the size of a small car.
I'm glad you asked! :D
Jackson's wheel of cheese actually only weighed 1400 pounds (0.7 tons), but it was 4 feet in diameter and 2 feet thick. Picture three of those, or one cheese wheel about 7 by 7 by 2 feet.
gotta love Margaret
Toby's got spice XD
That's a big wheat thin😕
I always love this scene and the story.
But wouldn’t two tons of cheese start to mold sitting there in the heat?
then it would be bleu cheese :)
lololol
Foy-Err or Foy-Ayy?
Census
WTF? I wanted to hear about the block of cheese.
The goofy thing about this show is how Margaret seemed so odd and potentially not even qualified for her position.
Leo's voice sounds too high.
eat the cheese and pass the gas and move on
This is too fast. Everyone's pitch is off.
A better story about Andrew Jackson is when some guy tried to assassinate him, but both pistols he brought misfired; and Jackson whopped his ass with his walking stick. He's almost as badass as President Donald J. Trump, but not quite. #MAGA #AmericaFirst #TrumpForever #PopulismYeaYea
Captain Bone-Spurs. Yes, a draft dodger is so badass. 🙄
In other news, a certain city in north Florida really needs to change its name. Granted, I realize that Mr. Big Block of Cheese was the first governor of Florida, but why name your town after a louse who forced people to leave their homes and pushed them halfway across the country? Furthermore, weren’t we supposed to change the picture on the $20 bill? Then again, I suppose that idea went by the boards, like going metric.
@@flyboy152You’re right except he’s actually Private Bone Spurs.
@@thomash.schwed3662 if you love metric so much, move to Canada 😀😃😄😁😆😅🤣😂
@@flyboy152 your boy missed his shot
and we wonder why Democrats are considered out of touch...
Not sure what you mean, chum. I'll take "There was this block of cheese
.." over "There were good people on both sides at Charlottesville."
@@colinmerritt7645 Wow, the point of my comment went right over your head. And at an impressive speed, too.
