This song isn’t what you think it’s about. Hotel California is about the dark side of the entertainment industry and how it affects the minds of the people in it.

It informally refers to the Beverly Hills Hotel which the Eagles and other bands frequented, it also features as the building on the cover of the album and is the setting of the photos of the band inside the album and the included poster.

Double neck guitar, top neck is a 12 string guitar. A 12 syring guitar has basically the regular 6 strings with an extra string an octave higher added to each string. Except maybe the high E and B. Which just have double strings. I can't remember for sure right now
The bottom neck is a regularly strung 6 string guitar. He plays the harmony on the 12 and lead on the 6

Yeah, Irina, you got to one of the classics performed by Eagles in my home arena (sadly torn down) where I saw Rod Stewart. This song is a metaphor for the seedy California show biz and music lifestyle especially back in the 70s. Don Henley, the drummer, is a singer, guitarist and drummer on a par with Phil Collins. He went out on his own after Eagles. Absolutely a banger of a guitar duo there. 👍 For another great guitar solo try Chicago's 25 or 6 to 4, a song about song writer's block.

Lead singing drummers are not real prevalent, but some of note, besides Don Henley here, are Phil Collins from Genesis (and his solo career), Roger Taylor with Queen, and Karen Carpenter of The Carpenters. If you have not listened to Karen's work, she was a special talent and deserves time in your ears.

The 1960s...and especially, the 70s and 80s were filled with timeless music. The 90s were great too but the music took quite a dark turn. Now, the Eagles are my favorite band so I can tell you straight up you can't go wrong with these dudes. All their stuff is great. Especially songs like: Take It To The Limit, Take It Easy, I Can't Tell You Why, Witchy Woman, and One Of These Nights. Of course, bands like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin were big too. However, if you want something truly different, checkout Granicus. They were a VERY little known band from the 70s with quite a bombastic sound. It's a shame they never really made it big, per se. Anyway, the songs to listen to by them are Paradise and Prayer. Excellent tunes!

I’ve seen one reactor actually understand that the lyrics were metaphors and he listened to it twice during his reaction to try to figure it out snd he did. Soooo refreshing.

@genehornung3295 My bad. You are right I was going by my memory. The decline of rock began in the late 1970s, with the rise of disco. Led Zeppelin "died" in 1980... marking, IMHO the beginning of the end of Rock music. Of course there were exceptions such as Stevie Ray Vaugn,, Van Halen, Tom Petty... The movie, Satiurday Night Fever was in 1977 as was Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane crash, FWIW. By the 1980's, rock and roll had declined significantly

Hi. Just thought of a fun one for you Irina. I know many people take a dim view of it and think it's dumb and all. And often they are right. But look up a video of Nikita and Ivan Koloff. Especially Nikita. Is he a good actor or can you tell he is actually from Minnesota originally? Growing up he really did fool me! 😁😁
