Joe Walsh, the guitarist with the headband, was taking a break from some tracks he was laying down in a studio in Redondo Beach, Ca. when he wandered into a dance we were playing (1970 - high schooler at the time) in a Unitarian Church. He sat in with us for 4-5 songs. Talk about pumped egos for the next few weeks! One of many great memories before nerve damage ended my career.
You just heard two of the best guitarists of th 70s . Don Felder and Joe Walsh . Thank you for your reaction on Hotel California one of the best song in the 70s.
The drummer, Don Henley, is in my humble opinion, one of the best singers, ever. But the Eagles are a band where all of the guys could have been a lead singer in any other band. No other band like the Eagles, then, or since. Thanks Verdy!
Everyone old and young loved the Eagles in the seventies . My Dad loved big bands listened to nothing else, but he liked the Eagles. Not too many groups have accomplished that. Eagles songs will never fade away. Whats this you said a bass isn't a guitar? I've been playing bass for 45 years. You hear the music but you feel the bass.
Yes! During the arpeggios of the guitar duet, that bass is like a drum pounding each note with them in the background, keeping everything right in synch. It's perfection!
The guitar player with the red bandana on his head is Joe Walsh one of the best rock guitarists ever! He famously said " it was more fun being 20 in the 70's than being 70 in the 20's".
To me it's the best and most accurate studio to Live performance to any song I've ever seen, and the fact that it visibly resonated with you was fun to watch (a little blushing I saw with how good it was)! They were really good.
Don Henley and Glen Frey are responsible for Eagles always playing their music as close to the recorded version as possible live. They both knew that the audience wants to be able to sing along with the band at a concert, therefore it would be in the bands best interest not to go too far off the recorded versions. This holds true with pretty much all of their concerts.
Thank you Verdy for not pretending you had never heard this song before. Annoys me when other "reaction" channels act as if they've never heard an absolutely iconic rock/pop song
The drummer/singer, Don Henley, also had an excellent solo career when the Eagles broke up for a while, with many hit tunes, originals and covers of other artists. They got back together to create the album/concert called “Hell Freezes Over”. My favourite track from the Eagles is “The Last Resort” from the album “Unplugged 1994”
The guy with the red bandana is Joe Walsh and he had great success with his group. “The James Gang” before joining the Eagles. Pleat to life’s been. Walk Away.
The Eagles have so much talent and then they added Joe Walsh the guy on the far right with red head band, everyone plays and everyone sings. The coolest thing is at the end when the two guitars , hatmmanize the song together....

One year later and I was going to my first gigs in London,i 1971and, yesterday,on a boat trip in London, the boat went by The "Royal Festival Hall" where I saw that Concert.
The Eagles are one of the best live bands in history. It's obvious they rehearse and rehearse and rehearse. Anything less than perfection is unacceptable. So they can nail a live performance.

Great reaction to a classic song! The Eagles, Don Henley in particular, are big time blockers. So hopefully the copyright over the video will be enough to keep the video up.
I met Timothy B. Schmidt-bass player and lead vocals on I Can’t Tell You Why in Sacramento California at Tower records for a book signing he was doing before the Hell Freezes Over tour in 94. His two elementary school teachers were there. Kindergarten and 1st grade. I’ll never forget the look on his face when they surprised him!
It's not just the drummer. They have FOUR members who sing lead on various songs - and they're all outstanding. Two other live performances worth reacting to: "Take It Easy" and "Take It to the Limit"
The Eagles had three incredible singers Don Henley (drums), Glen Frey (Guitar Piano) and Randy Meisner (Bass). You should react to their song "Take It To The Limit" from the same concert you just watched "Hotel California" from. Take it to the limit is sung by the bassist, Randy Meisner, and that song was usually their encore song. I think you will enjoy it very much, and you are right, the Eagles were incredible as a Live Band.
Thank you for checking out the live version. I'm so glad you enjoyed it and was surprised that Don Henley played drums as well as being the lead singer of this iconic song. It's a shame that back in the late 70's there was a lot of in fighting withing The Eagles. Otherwise I suspect they would have stuck around like AC/DC, Aerosmith and other iconic bands with high points and low points in their careers.
Funny fact: (sorry about my bad english)... that Gibson doubleneck was acquired after Don Felder heared how Led Zepp's Stairway sounded live; and on the other hand, Joe Walsh had sold to Jimmy the guitar that would became his main iconical Gibson Les Paul, with which he recorded and toured from 70 to 80 with LZ and 'til today remains of his own. Love your reactions, Verdy. 🙋♀️

I saw a Blonde 70's era strat in the local paper (for...$350) and I knew my friend in another town was looking for one so I called him and bought it from a college student who said he got it from Joe Walsh the year before, but was moving and needed money..(this wasn't a selling ploy as I had already gave him the money when he mentioned it),,, also for sale was a pre CBS Fender twin reverb..for ..$350 that I wanted for myself but didn't have the money for
This is a great song. 5 musicians who were top tier on their instruments and could all sing. 3 of the members at this time had very successful solo careers afterwards. Don Henley, Glen Frey, and Joe Walsh. You should check out their stuff :D
Saw 3 of the Eagles play this live in 1991. The first Concert for Walden Woods that Don Henley arranged he had Glenn Frey and Timothy B Schmidt from the Eagles there as well and they did this song as well as 7-10 more Eagles songs. Don Henley is the drummer the one singing this song. Was great seeing 3 of them at least. Timothy B Schmidt wasn't in the group at the time this was recorded he replaced Randy Meisner the Bass Player. The 3rd guitarist on this video the one playing the acoustic guitar is Glenn Frey. What a great show they put on.

Drummers have always impressed me the most. They are using both hands and both feet, doing four different things at the same time. They have to remember all of the "hits" for tons of different songs, with no sheet music to follow. I don't know how they do it. It must take a special kind of brain. And then throw in singing on top of it all!

I share the amazement of that talent too . Reminds me of another instrument that’s super-complicated (although I’ve never heard a singer over it) - the pedal steel guitar. The player must manipulate 8 things : both hands, both feet and both knees (2 levers for each one) !

There are so many great aspects of this song, not the least of which was that the record company was bugging them to finish the album but... How about the duet at the end of the song? It is an arpeggio. The song is made of 8 chords played over and over. The arpeggio is the notes of each of those chords played sequentially. That is why when they start playing the arpeggio it just sounds so RIGHT! You know it is right. People in Afghanistan know it is right. There is so much more too.
Ari, Try and imagine being asked to come up with the Bass part in this song. Now go back and listen to it again. I had never paid attention to the Bass for the most part. Randy Meissner

Hi Arianne, I enjoyed your reaction of this song, even so I didn't heard this amazing live performance also for myself. And yes, it's interesting to see a drummer singing while drumming. I don't know if you had seen some live performances of Phil Collins respectively together with Genesis in the 1980ies and later on, where is also was singing while drumming. And there was a German band in the early 1970s called "Birth Control", their drummer Bernd Noske was also singing while dumming. You should listen go their famoust song "Gamma Ray" from 1972, of cause the long version of nearly 10 minutes. 😊
Don Henley did quite a few of the vocals, along with Glen Frey. What made the Eagles special was the number of guitars and great singers. Their vocal harmonies are only bettered by their guitar harmonies.
If you like a band with great harmonies i would recommend the Warning a rock power trio made of three sisters from Monterrey Mexico. And they know how to rock. If you want to see them in action watch the teatro Metropolitan CDMX live 2022 and you will see what i am talking about all three sing and the drummer Paulina also sings lead vocals the lead singer her sister Dani plays guitar and Alejandra (Ale) plays bass. They were invited by Metallica to reimagine the song enter sandman for the Metallica 30th anniversary of the black album which is the Blacklist album.
As close to the original recording as you can get. They are the best live band, in terms of reproducing the sound of the studio version, live on stage.

If you want to see them in action watch the teatro Metropolitan CDMX live 2022 and you will see what i am talking about all three sing and the drummer Paulina also sings lead vocals the lead singer her sister Dani plays guitar and Alejandra (Ale) plays bass. They were invited by Metallica to reimagine the song enter sandman for the Metallica 30th anniversary of the black album which is the
Blacklist album.
The best songs are between 60s to 90s arebest and meaningful
I know you loved the debut album by “BOSTON” you can see them do live songs from the album also. Please check out “ More Than A Feeling” live.
Another good live performance is by Peter Gabriel (a former member of Genesis) "Solsbury hill" also posted on YT 13 years ago.
As close to the original recording as you can get. They are the best live band, in terms of reproducing the sound of the studio version, live on stage.
the drummer has always been the main singer for the band.
