- Hey everyone I am back once again to take a look at another set of hitboxes. This time we are taking a look at everyones favorite spell caster, and almost the only in in smash utltimate, Robin! While they have a bunch of really strong aspeccts to them, there are also a few things that hold them back. So why don't we just take a look.

Bronze sword fsmash has the funniest and saddest hitbox in the game
that hitbox has scammed me so many times it's unreal
The problem is more in its "kill power", it's pathetic.
Robin's nair is actually the largest nair in the game, which is kinda mad considering how fast it is (frame 7)
Wait, really?
Even bigger than ones that cover the whole character like Bowser, or Bayonetta, or Pyra?
@@waynemidnight7454 Nope, it's basically the size of chrom fair and hero bair at the same time (but slightly smaller) - this is with levin sword ofc
Ah, nice. I main Robin, and I never considered this.
Shulk?
@@waynemidnight7454 I've never mained Robin but I've always been proficient with all FE reps - as the #1 FE rep all around player in my country. I coach them all so i'm used to using them all often.
I love how inelegantly the Robins use their swords compared to most swordies, especially the dash attack which is basically just running at someone with the sword out.
I agree, it shows how Robin is less reliant on their sword and is thus less experienced in using it
the raw courage to keep in the clip of you getting shield broken by a bowser CPU in the intro 😭
Robin is such a fun character, even more so if you understand how everything works!
If you use Thunder Tome to B Reverse or Wavebounce, you can change your gravity slightly and get some really fun movement options. Same goes for Arcfire, which is awesome! Considering their movement isn't the best to begin with, they can use all the help they can get with that.
imo it is crucial to know how to b-reverser and wavebounce with robin, cuz without yea ur a brick
Nice to see Robin's crazier stuff get highlighted...though the character's drawbacks aren't as bad as you made them out to be. For one, Robin's air speed is actually the exact median of the roster, so moving around in the air isn't a problem at all! Also has a deceptively good initial dash, and because of it Robin's foxtrot is 20% faster than running normally and is actually identical to Ike's run speed! Feels like you overstated the effect durability has as well--everything that isn't Nosferatu comes back really quickly. People who don't play Robin think it's more crippling than the people who actually play them.
Also, I'm surprised you used one of Robin's less remarkable hitboxes for the thumbnail. Levin dsmash and its huge shockwave hitbox or Levin nair and its "I outrange almost every aerial in the entire game, including forward/back airs" front hit are a lot more eye-catching.
Damn, even as a robin main they're faster than I thought (I do foxtrot). Always thought his juggling was disproportionately good compared to his ground speed as well (though it could just be his levin up air)
Levin Dsmash just destroys, it lingers for like half a second and is broken in ledgetrapping, hits opponents while snapping to ledge, kills super early as well. Also durability is a small price to pay for checkmate...............
Wow, I didn't know their rapid jab made the book flip pages. Cool animation detail
You know what could fix Robin's movement issues? If you could use one use of Elwind as a burst movement or for follow ups. Maybe balance it out that you can't use the second wind afterward. Plus it ties into using your limited moves smartly
If you get the timing right, you can get one of elwind from ledge. This can be done consistently by buffering up special after short-hop up air from edge- it spikes and is fun to edgeguard with since you can angle it- but is somewhat iffy to pull off.
Not the burst option you would hope though.
I have no idea why Elwind is a double cast- in the first game it was featured, fe4(genealogy of the holy war) you gain Lewyn, wielding
Elwind, and must immediately use him to kill some bandits before they destroy the villages. He does not have a skill that allows him to attack twice in one combat, so it does not make sense for Elwind in smash to cast twice. However he does have a skill that gives a small chance of him firing off two spells before his opponent can counterattack- so this might be why- however this cannot activate during the section where he defeats the bandits, which relates to my second idea:
When stopping the bandits from destroying the villages, he is accompanied by sylvia. She is a dancer, meaning she has access to the dance ability. Dance can be used on a teammate after their action for the turn has ended to grant them another action. In order to make it in time (and reap the rewards for saving the villages), you MUST use dance on Lewyn multiple turns in a row, because he doesn't oneshot the bandits, instead two-shotting them in one turn with Sylvia's help. This double combat strategy may or may not be what the double cast is referencing.
My final idea is simply that the wind magics are, in fire emblem, extremely light. This means that your attack speed (one of the conditions for doubling) is higher when using it than, say, a massive axe with a high weight stat. Especially considering that you do not need a rare ability to double attack in other 3 games elwind is in (including awakening, where robin is from), this may be why: doubling is super important in those 3 and Elwind is extremely potent at striking twice.
Either way it's annoying that there is no way to send elwind forwards when on the ground (in fact, it could be used as a retreating tool that pushes you back and fires forward once or twice)
@@lusamine2409they should’ve made it that if you press b twice after inputting upb you get two el wind spells but if you only press it once you get one that you can use in any direction and that doesn’t put you into freefall. Or maybe inputting shield cancels the second el wind in the air or something like that.
@@sass_king5576 or maybe even like bayo's up b where it resets after a jump. If u jump canceled the second upb, (like you would with bayonetta) it would be very similar to the current elwind. That would also let you send one out on the ground!
Well, if robin makes it into the next smash game(if there is one), let's hope for elwind to be like this.
For some reason, Robin's down B puts him into free fall whenever he successfully uses it in the air
Interesting 😮
Yep. One of the few non-UpB movers carried over into Ultimate to keep this property.
Robin is such a fun and interesting fighter
Nice video! I have a few random notes/facts (some of which have already been mentioned in the comments):
- Jab 1 is actually kind of ridiculously high reaching, but Jab 2 is basically only horizontal, so it's unfortunately common to see characters fall out of jab combos.
- You can buffer F-Tilt after using up a tome to insta-grab it, which honestly isn't that useful, but it exists. Still (arguably) the second worst F-Tilt in the game.
- Up Air and B-Air's lingering hitboxes are pretty cool, as they let you combo right back into a sweetspot levin aerial at kill%, at least when landing.
- Nosferatu has a few weird properties. It hits more frequently the more players are in the match. It heals more the higher Robin's percent is compared to the opponent. It also heals more when attacking from behind for some reason.
- Thoron, despite being a projectile, is briefly vertically "attached" to Robin after firing it. This leads to a weird interaction where falling after shooting Thoron above Steve's blocks can let Thoron pass through them.
WB!! And as a Robin main I was obligated to watch this video. Thanks for the content as always!
I'd like to see someone make a mod of Ultimate where sourspots are replaced with extended sweetspots. I'd imagine Robin's dash attack would be pretty good if that massive sweetspot stayed active for the entire duration.
Okay but imagine the chaos Captain Falcon, Ganondorf, and Zelda could cause with that mod. Knees, twinkle toes, and stomps galore.

Yayyy! A Robin video ^w^
I’ve been trying her out, and she’s really interesting and fun! I’ve come to really like her character after I decided to look into her lore more! That’s mainly why I started using her ^.^
-also I like that you chose female Robin for the showcase lol-
I would love to see a video on my main, Greninja!! 💙💙💙
I used to main robin when i didnt know how to play before i learned.
Now i play villager and mii brawler.
But robins one of my fave charictars in the game, but i hate loosing energy in critical moments and his garbage speed.
HEY GUYS did you know that if you count out megaman because he has a projectile Robin's nair is the nair with the most range in the game, this is actually due to the fact that Robin bends themselves forward when they attack
Man thx a lot for the video, It helps me a lot since Im main Robin. Hopefully one day u can make a vid for Corrin, Chrom and Zero suit Samus cause I wanna learn how yo use em better at using em. :)
Bowsers berserk hitboxs would be awesome
Melee form robin would have levin permanently but the discard still happens. Cuz in universe u can equip a second of the same item. Same for tomes i guess
If Robin was an Ultimate DLC fighter, the Levin sword and tomes wouldn't run out, that would just be the base moveset.
Hell yeah! Love Robin!
Can I vote here? I'd like Rosalina & Luma, they'd seem fun to do a video on
Robin would be so much better if the game had more sand.
sand? why?
@@lusamine2409 Mage Units in Fire Emblem don't get slowed down on Desert Tiles.
Yes, it's a very stupid joke.
@@KaedeLanyoNOT FUNNY
Inkling Woomy when?...(Either way, these videos are so fun to watch!)
welcome back!
Welcome back!
I would've liked to know how differently Nosferatu functions when grabbing an oponent who's facing away from you, since Iirc you get more health and deal more damage.
I remember someone made a spreadsheet in the Robin discord resources detailing the damage dealt and healed at what percents facing both directions. Granted, it's been almost 2 years since I've last seen it.
Damn that's cool. I never played much Fire Emblem but is this cannon with the game? Or maybe just a reference to the actual Nosferatu being a vampire sneaking behind you.
@@Capris9x it's a Smash thing not a reference sadly
It's a thing that every damage taken of the nosferatu healths a certain percentage depending the damage taken and the difference of the percentages. When the rival is facing away the move does more damage so it heals more for that.
@@Capris9x It's a reference to both the vampire and the fact that that nosferatu is (in awakening, where robin is from, but not in other games) a dark mage exclusive spell that sakurai let robin use cos he though it was cool, and dark mage tells you all you need to know about "back"stabbing and the like
Amazing ✊🏽 🔥🔥🔥
Love these videos, but the gameplay in the background almost never has the move you're talking about being used. Would like to see the live-time animation as well as the hitbox
Me who's been patiently waiting for Isabelle.
If Robin want restricted by weapon durability, they'd be top tier.
No, but they'd be better.
I feel like if you're going to limit how many times a move can be used, it should be a move that would be unbalanced if it had infinite uses, otherwise you're nerfing a move that realistically didn't need to be nerfed.
@@TheLobsterCopter5000 for real the levin moves are fucking busted it's just a reasonable that has durability duration but if you make that please make the tilts or the dash attack with a levin version too. It's silly that all the moves minus the grounded pones doesn't have a levin version.
Personally I prefer weapon durability not infinite but if the character was faster and can use Levin sword with their tilts then you can consider Robin top tier
If robin didn't have durability then he wouldn't have checkmate or 2.0 (just search it up)
Awesome 👍
You forget that shooting thoron makes you immune to tripping for the rest of that stock
Hey, it might be off topic: what’s the name of the music you used in 4:41? It’s so catchy 😁
You should do bayo :)
The... "Gentleman"???? Who the hell comes up with this?
Smash players, apparently.
They divide jabs for characters with either rapid or three-hit ones into, well, rapid or three-hit.
The rapid is called… rapid. But they call three-hit jabs Gentlemen jabs.
@@aelechdeepestflame4347 That's really random and weird.
@@TheRealBatabii Correct. Give this person a cookie. But it’s what they call it, and I am glad to clear the air.
like 20 years ago a player named isai and a japanese player named gentleman were playing melee falcon dittos in friendlies at a tournament. falcons jab is notoriously difficult to land without releasing the rapid jab portion at the end because the move is programmed poorly. some players were watching and isai and gentleman challenged one another to see who could pull off as many falcon jabs without the rapid jab portion in a row and gentleman ended up winning and one of the people watching (i don't remember who anymore) started calling the third hit of falcon's jab the gentleman and it caught on. in future games they began adding jabs that could either be single hits or rapid jabs and the name was given to them as well and has just continued being used since

Where can I find the song that plays at the end? After credits
you should do bayo :0
if you did a video on sonic it would change the game
How the fuck does robins jab have so many hit boxes for different positions and can combo into itself or jab lock
If you mean the wind jab, it's still a risky move which is why most Robin mains rely on fire jab instead. Our initial 2 slash jabs are actually pretty bad at linking to each other, especially jab 2, which became a meme.
Day 3687 asking for Rosalina & Luma's hitboxes ❤️ 🌟
Can you do a sonic one please?
