- Hi everyone, let's bake and texture our Flashbang!
This is the Marmoset Toolbag 4 part of the tutorial where you will learn how to import our previously created flashbang low and highpoly models to bake our input maps such as normal, AO, curvature as well as Color ID mask. 👌
We will then setup a texture scene and create triple A quality textures for our grenade and conveniently since Marmoset is a real time render software also make renders at the end. You can download the one month free trial version on the Marmoset website.
A lot of effort goes into the creation of these tutorials nonmatter if they are paid or like this one free on RUclips. If you want to support my work then you can buy this tutorial as a bundle together with the previous one to keep the ChamferZone RUclips channel going with high quality content. In return you get the videos in downloadable format in the best available quality for offline watching. 4 hours and 30 minutes of Blender beginner tutorial content. Your support is much appreciated! 🙂 chamferzone.gu...

Hello and thanks for this great tutorial.
When i do the Quick Load in the baker it charges my mats but i cant see my meshes or my groups (under the baker) anyone having this problem?¿ they work fine if i just click and drag but i cant get individual cages.
Just completed the full tutorial. Thank you very much. I'm used to Substance Painter since a few years now and for a first try I have to admit Marmoset has quick and quite powerful texture tools. The UI is perfectible and I miss some features from Substance Painter but for a first udpate it's already quite impressive.
Wow, I was not aware that Marmoset planned on adding a complete texturing set of features! Finally, a competitor for Adobe. Also this alongside FREE and powerful Blender has got me really excited for the future of 3D software! I wonder if Blenders sculpting features can replace ZBrush?
I mean substance painter is cheaper
for a baking tutorial you didn't even show where you put your baked objects
MY TEXTURES ARE ALL WHITE WHEN BROUGHT TO MARMOSET AND THE FLASHBANG DOESN T SHOW. (THE FLASHBANG THAT I MADE FROM FOLLOWING THE LAST TUTO)
THE FLASHBANG ATTACHED TO THIS TUTO, SHOWS BUT ALSO WHITE TEXTURES
SAME HERE
@@seriousmakks Had the same issue, went into help > dev > log and looked at the errors near the bottom which told the story. In the previous tutorial he said to batch rename to _high and _low and I mistakenly did _HP and _LP which marmoset doesn't read so my model didn't show up. Simply go back into blender and rename your objects appropriately so the model will show up. As far as the textures showing all white, you need to go to Edit > Preferences > under Content section tick "import materials with models" then give it a retry and see how you do. Happy texturing :)
baker autoload: object "Object.001_LP" could not be categorized as a high or low poly mesh, and will be omitted
@@TitusBray I already fixed but thank's. Did the exact same thing you did😅, I had to try till I find the solution too
@@TitusBray Thank you! Worded for me!
So I noticed I was crashing everytime around 13:20 using UV Island.. I tried a couple ways to mask using the Material ID but doing that didnt look good. It created seams. So what I did to solve the crash was go back to the baker project and I baked a UV Island map.. When I did this and used UV Island fill I didn't crash! Anyone having that issue give that solution a try. This saved me from going back into substance painter. lol
stupid adobe bought allgremethic which I saw coming, thanks for bringing toolbag 4 and painting, materials, etc.
Mind was blown by how good Marmoset has gotten. Thanks for showings us the way!
It's truly amazing and next update is gonna bring some further important improvements such polygon fill mode as we know it from Painter :) It's a diamond in the rough but with highly skilled devs polishing on it. Can't wait to see how good it still gets. I do hope they gonna add a text tool though because that's an important feature in Painter.
@@ChamferZone as someone who currently cannot use Painter due to it crashing on my 6800XT, this was a godsend. I can finally work again. I was scratching my head as to why you're adding the text in Blender and then it unraveled in the second video :) They absolutely need to add that, yeah.
Toolbag4 is insane! You should make more videos on it, like how to create textures like bricks and tiles!
Thank you!!
Which one is faster in texturing? SP or Marmoset? I'm asking because from version to version SP performance getting worse and worse.
SP may be not faster, but it provides enormous opportunities for texturing. And the biggest advantage of SP - Steam version is waaaaaaaaay cheaper than Marmoset perpetual license.
@@hribogriz 😳 I didn't know that they had a cheaper version on steam then they do on their main website. Now that's interesting... good to know and thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much ! we really need more tutorials on texturing in Marmoset 4 ! thanks again, amazing content (y)
great work mate!
I'm brand new to marmoset. When I loaded the fbx into Marmoset the materials weren't colored in the material display (the different colored balls) like they were in his view. Also his flashbang was blk initially and he had to change it, mine was already white.
When he toggled the highpoly/lowpoly some colors showed on his model, no colors showed for me.
When he added the aluminum dented texture to the albedo layer the aluminum texture became visible in his main camera, but nothing changed for me, the flash bang is still just clear white.
So it's not going great for me. I must be missing some display setting or something.
I have the same issues. My parented object does not showed in marmoset, i renamed them again to high poly, and then it worked. My baking is messed up on the nuts area.
This was so much more helpful than the Marmoset tutorials. Thank you for sharing. I think this will become a favorite tool for my workflow!

Is anyone here these days? I have a problem with the baking process. Everything is perfect, except the Fuze word on top. I can make that bake onto another part of the granade, but i cant bake anything onto that top thing. The result is like a very pixelated shadow. I tried with a bigger and smaller cage too, but same results. Any idea what causes the problem?
Marmoset toolbag is an open source software r not?
Is there an equivalent way to go about doing all this in Quixel Mixer? I'm only doing 3d modelling as a hobby and I don't see the point in learning a tool that I know for a fact I won't be using in the future.
Hey your timestamps need some love :)
Really great tutorial Tim. Thanks a lot, I can't believe it is free on youtube. A small bit of feedback, as a complete beginner I think it would help if you explained why you did certain things rather than just saying what you did. For example, I didn't understand why you were making a high poly and low poly model, why you were marking certain edges for bevels / subdivision and why you were marking certain edges as seams for the UV map. I could follow along but if I was working on another model I wouldn't be able to make the decisions because I didn't understand the reason for doing the actions. Obviously I am learning about these things now but just a small bit of feedback that could have made the tutorial even better. Cheers! :)
can you tell me why I have some spots appeared after baking and how to fix them?
me too, had no idea how to fix it :((( i've come this far just to throw everything away
@@kellogg26redrocket i have 2 year exp, and u need do that your low poly model will be little bit biger than high poly, or add geometry, example: if u have ball add more subdiv, if u have bevel on cube add 2-3 segment or do bigger your low poly model, try. Write if u have anything
The biggest problem of baking is that there is no channel for me to extract baking results!! Have you ever seen a mask with a padding? Disgusting!! Can we bake the texture with channel directly? 32 bit TGA like 3ds Max
hi there,
I'm facing an issue with marmoset currently, hope you can solve it. Actually, it's not able to render in psd or png like when I click on image/image & open it, it just blinks and stops. and this problem started recently, previously it was performing okay but I don't what's wrong now. plz help
that came out of the blue xD : "painted crack sounds more unhealthy " i mean paint cracks !
Thank you for your awesome Tutorials btw i appreciate your help !
great. thank you Tim. Can you also use a brush to paint with normal information? In Substance it works pretty easy, but couldn't find any way to do that with Marmoset. Thanks and keep rocking. cheers.
Great Stuffs Time Thank you for sharing. I have a question please,
should we activate the tone mapping or any other post effects in substance painter to match Unreal lighting as the results always differ after getting the low-poly and texture maps in it? or there are other techniques in the industry to solve this? thanks again.
Just the tutorial i was waiting for
What about color random variation? A bowl of hundreds of colorful candies, each candy a different color. How do you get that?
Hm... How can you put non triaggulated objects to Marmoset? really don't understand
I cannot follow along this tutorial - because at 13:23 it keeps crashing. Whelp, time to learn substance painter.
Same. The moment I use UV Island it crashes.. Im going to report a bug.. They should have ID Map Masking as well thats pretty much standard smh
@@DevGods Yeah. I ended up finishing the tutorial in the substance painter trial. Worked like a charm, although i still used the bake from Marmoset. It really is quite a lot better than the substance bake.
@@robrobusa yea man for real that’s why I want to see what the texturing tools can offer. If they are good enough for my needs I’ll only use one tool for baking texturing and rendering. Would save iteration time! Plus I’m just tired of Substance Painter. I still like designer and that workflow is making it hard to switch but I really want to
I have the same exact problems . Any one found a fix for this yet?
@@dmartclasses8831 you have to bake out an UV island map. I’m not sure why since it’s supposed to use UV islands but when I baked out the UV island map I no longer had any crashes
Did you uv unwrapped the fbx-files before importing or is that not necessary?
Really nice, thanks! Ill probably try Marmoset as it seems really cool. But I dont understand how it cannot do text yet...thats really strange.
Awesome! Thanks a lot, Tim! You're doing a great work
One thing, i guess, might be useful even for you - in camera settings, Color tab, Tone mapping - you might switch it to another presets, rather than Linear. AESC or somethnig like this significantly increases your render's quality by adding more color depth. Try to play with it a bit
now i get whats going on in TB4
Hi, I have one question. When did you manage to do all those png files that you added at the beginning?
Thank You so much for sharing your knowledge. I purchased three of your courses and I am very pleased with the quality of the content ; a true professional at work.
Hi Michele, thanks for getting them and I am glad you find them useful! :)
really don't like the UI/UX of M4... too busy
hi Tim! so which is better for you, Marmoset or Substance and why?
Lots of new stuff I learned but how do we get the textures and mesh gameready and throw it in to unreal or unity? Any tutorials about that?
very nice! i bought the mech tutorial on steam. on the link its only lowpoly can i download the highpoly also tim? thanks!
Oops sorry, indeed I shared the wrong file on here. Let me fix that :) Also thanks for getting the mech tutorial!
@@ChamferZone got it!!
For some reason the texture won't show when I drag it under layers
I didn't know you can texture in toolbag. Lol
Hi, when I import the high poly, all the materials show up, but the colors I chose do not show up. For example, if I make the material red in Blender and then import into Marmoset, the "Red" material shows up, but it isn't red like it was in Blender. It's just a blank white material. I'm not following the course exactly, just trying to find a quick way to make ID maps for Marmoset without texture painting.
Is there a step I'm missing?
With one of the new updates, the checkbox for "import materials with models" is not checked. Just go to Edit => Preferences.
@@rayly7291 Thank God for ppl like You, wouldn't guess that was the problem in a million years. Thanks!
i met the same trouble. did you find solution?
@@rayly7291 thank you
@@rayly7291 Спасибо!
Marmoset becams something like substance now?
Your work is interesting so can you Please do a few more on blender
Hello; I ve just follow the tutorial, and thank you for that, but when I load my high and low poly meshes, my material id appears white for each ( I renamed in blender etc) but doesnt care... I am blocked
Same problem. I'm on a mac. Any solution?
Hi, i can't find mace texturing tutorial?
Hi, I just finished the Flashbang tutorial in Blender and I was super pleased with the results and the delivery. Since I'm a student, I can't quite afford Marmoset Toolbag at the moment since 3D modelling is only a hobby. Do you know alternate ways I could bake and texture the flashbang following your workflow in this tutorial?
Awesome work by the way, it inspires me to do more in 3D modelling!
Quixel Mixer is free, but it can't bake. You can bake in Blender.
Teachings from a mystic sitting atop his mountain peak. Thank you.
Tim are u able to colour pick in marmoset
Just finished modelling and texturing tutorials. Thank you very much! I've really improved my skill, thanks to your lessons.
Haa this is ur face 😂😉
Where are the likes people ? Show some love jesus christ. Hes making gods work here goddamn it...
😀 haha thanks, well I can't complain. For my channel the latest three videos have been the most successful so far. Blender is certainly in hot demand these days.
Where is the brush mirror function?
Great content. Thank you
Awesome, thank you so much, this is pure gold¡
well done thanks
Amazing as always Tim. Waiting for another weapon tutorial :)
Thank you so much for the tutorial
TEAM IM BEGGINER AND I DONT UNDERSTEND WHY USE HIGHT AND LOW POLY
you create a high poly model and steal/capture it's normal/bump maps and light/shadow data to a texture file that you load onto the low poly model which you can then import into a game engine to increase performance while having the illusion of a detailed model.
Silly question but if I'm only using high poly for product renders, how do I handle the baking of textures when I don't use a low poly? Or is it necessary? Thanks for the help in advance.
did you manage to find an answer?
@@pablolorite1663 You can just copy your high poly and use it as the low poly. Pretty straightforward
My marmoset just keeps crashing when try to use the bucket tool for the mask . Super annoying. Any ideas how to fix this ? Thank you for making the good tutorial tho, just wish it would not keep crashing
change the resolution of the textures to 2048
painted crack haha 20:29
Thank you!
Thanks
man you are awesome
Phenomenal tutorial!! Great job

amazing, thank you

Can you transfer your paid tutorials to udemy?
I do have some on there but it's a bit complicated with Udemy. For example, I often make references in my tutorials where I mention my discord channel and things like that. Udemy asks me to remove any such "outside" mentions which means I would have to edit my videos and export them as a new version for them. Also I would have to cut everything up into 20 minutes chunks. Udemy wants to treat everything as its own island and I don't have time to log in there and check for comments and questions which is why I channel everything to my Discord server to have it one place. However I will reach out to Udemy and ask them if they can make an exception for my next bigger tutorial that I am about to work on now.
@@ChamferZone Your courses are cheap on udemy. That's why I made this comment. Your course on Steam is also cheap. I will buy that too. However, your gumroad courses are very expensive. I live in Turkey and dollar big money for me. That's why I asked you to upload your courses to udemy :)
If it isn't too much to ask.. could you do a video of the same model (of different, doesn't matter) but then the texturing with quixel mixer to game asset? Marmoset is awesome..but just way to expensive to buy (for me and others as beginners alike).
Still, really well made tutorial! Good ones are rare on youtube!
Hello Xavier, I was actually thinking of doing that but decided to just go with marmoset now because otherwise it would have delayed the release further and I want to start working on my next bigger tutorial for gumroad now :) Quixel mixer is certainly very good too and I might reserve that for future tutorials! Probably on a different object then. I think if you follow the Quixel's tutorial where they show this spaceship they also do the baking in Marmoset at first. So you could follow along with the grenade instead of the spaceship prefectly fine!
Hey, I PAid for this :(
