    Black Country Communion is now very active with a upcoming album called "V". Several singles are out already!
    Top 3 Glenn Hughes?
    3) Glenn Hughes - Resonate (2016)
    Heavy and effective album. Not too much fuzz or strange ideas. Very classic and modern at the same time. I remember Pete Pardo rating this as Glenn Hughes best soloalbum. I was a bit surprised since I thought he probably go with something he has more history with but it is a solid choice.
    2) Glenn Hughes - From Now On... (1994)
    As Peter Kerr said. It is sort of an AOR-album but a rather heavy style of AOR. Compared to like Toto, Survivor or Journey.
    1) Deep Purple - Stormbringer (1974)
    I prefer "Burn" as an album but this is much more Glenn Hughes to me and whilst many Deep Purple fans rather go back to Machine Head or jump forward to Perfect Strangers.. I really like this one. It is perhaps the most odd album in the catalog and perhaps more interesting for it!

      Great picks too. So many to choose from, where to start?

  • @garyh.238
    @garyh.238 3 месяца назад +2

    I was introduced to Glenn Hughes via Deep Purple's "Stormbringer" album when it came out back in 1975. Been a big fan of his work since that time. I have seen Glenn play live four (4) times over the years. Amazing bass-player who truly possesses a voice handed down to him from the Gods. That he is able to perform both tasks simultaneously at a stellar level, and at well into his 70's is simply mind-boggling. If you are able to catch him on tour, you will not be disappointed.
    --As for albums, I have: all of Glenn's solo albums; all of his Trapeze; all of his Black Country Communion; all of his Deep Purple (studio & Lives) ; all of the Voodoo Hill; all of his Tony Iommi-related projects (Black Sabbath & solo); all of the Hughes-Turner output; Phenomena, The Dead Daisies; as well as his collaborations with Pat Thrall; Gary Moore; Jon Norum (Europe); Keith Emerson; Pat Travers; Joe Satriani; and others. So much great music and wonderful performances.....a true legend.
    ---As for my favourite albums of Glenn's.....so so many to choose from, but the following are the real stand-outs for me:
    1) The Dep Sessions 96 (with Tony Iommi)
    2) Waterfall (Voodoo Hill)
    3) Addiction (Glenn solo)

    Holy Ground (Dead Daisies)
    And the Iommi / Hughes albums.

    Reed, you hit it out of the park. Voodoo Hill's WATERFALL is one of the best rock albums in the past 15 years and both Iommi/Hughes albums are amazing. IMO, the 1996 DEP SESSIONS was slightly better than FUSED, but the production on both albums was top notch.

    Thanks for covering this topic. Number 1: Hughes-Thrall. I so wished they had followed this up. Glenn’s best solo album: Music For The Divine. I wished that Glenn had stayed with Trapeze for one more studio album. I can’t wait for Glenn to finish his Deep Purple themed live shows. Looking forward to Glenn restarting his solo career in 2024/5. Hopefully Glenn will give air to his natural penchant for Funk & Soul,within a Rock frame work.

    Glenn Hughes is probably the artist I have seen most times live, and he’s always great as a solo act or in a band. The coolest gig I have seen with him was in 1993, in a pub with about 60-70 people in the audience. We just came out from a Deep Purple gig earlier in the evening and went straight to the pub for more Purple with Glenn, and where we in for a surprise, because two of the guests hanging around having a beer next to the sound board was Ian Paice and Roger Glover. What a cool night it was and Glenn played a lot of Purple stuff.

    • @garyh.238
      @garyh.238 3 месяца назад

      Cool! That must have been in Oslo in November of that year.....one of Ritchie Blackmore's last performances with Purple. And Glenn was touring with some of the members of Europe at that time I believe. Two great shows in one night for sure.

    • @nilshenrikteigen9215
      @nilshenrikteigen9215 3 месяца назад +1

      @@garyh.238 Correct it was in Oslo. First we had Ritchie’s second to last gig with the band, and it was a surprisingly good concert as well. I guess the gig at Elm Street pub with Glenn later on is the smallest venue I have ever seen him in, but he was just starting to rebuild his career at the time so I guess he couldn’t be picky. To see Roger glover and Ian Paice also enjoying the gig was also a treat.

    • @garyh.238
      @garyh.238 3 месяца назад +1

      @@nilshenrikteigen9215 Definitely must be a highlight to have witnessed both Purple acts in the same town same night. I have seen both Deep Purple and Glenn Hughes several times as well, but never in such close proximity. I attended guitarist Larry Coryell & various Miles Davis alumuni's "Miles Smiles" concert in 2013 and saw Purple's keyboardist Don Airey at a nearby seat, enjoying the show.

    For some reason never been a huge fan of Mr Hughs but i do remember the KLF tune that Peter mentioned. He was on the 3rd remake of that tune, titled America: What Time Is Love which was a beefed up version. That was 91/92. Not quite number 1 but was a top 5 hit.

    I would disagree about Glenn as a disco / R&B singer. His solo album after leaving DP was very R&B but it wasn't very good. He may have a soulful edge to his voice, but he's a rock singer.

      Play Me Out album sounds to me like Glenn was venting his creative frustrations on Play Me Out,albeit ‘unfiltered’. A strong producer on that album would have tried to reign Glenn in, but at that time perhaps Glenn wouldn’t have taken direction.
