I was an IT technician during Y2K, I serviced PCs in the banking sector in the US. Y2K was very much real and was a complete pain in the ass. It was mostly mitigated by Congress passing a tax bill that allowed corporations to depreciate IT infrastructure at an accelerated rate and increased tax deductions. We were busy ripping out servers and work stations 24/7 to avoid bad code.
Maybe for you, I peed on the last robot that tried to kill me. 💪🏽😂

As an ancient person alive in the late 1900s, I remember cell phones being a thing only shortly before smart phones which werent even popular until 2008ish. The first iphone 'only' sold 1.4 million in its first year and that was 2007. I was blessed by living my first 18 years of life completely free from cell phones and social media. Imagine that world. Incredible.

I remember being most concerned I'd be called into work to help fix pc issues!
Oh yeah the paranoia was so silly. A lot of people I worked with and knew got caught up in that hysteria and bought extra bottled water, flashlights; then stayed in and hid under the blankets come YTK. Me and my friends? We said aw hell no to that, and we partied like rock stars at a massive house party. It was a pure delight. One of the best parties I've ever been to. I felt sorry for all the people who missed out because they believed the hype and missed having phenomenal fun out that night.

Yeah but they only turned out to be stupid because of the thousands of engineers who spent 2+ years fixing all the computer systems.

I worked at Qwest back then as a 411 operator, and they never got around to fixing one of the scrolling announcement boards we had over the entrance door. When 1999 flipped over to 2000, it just started spitting out random numbers, letters and symbols, some that would flash and change mid-scroll. I guess the cost of removing it was too much too since they left it there for a few years. Eeriest way to enter work lol.
I was 14 at that time and I thought it was stupid, but all the adults were serious like "You wont understand because you're just 14 and dont understand electronics". This is a direct quote from a teacher, here is the fucked up part, he was our computer teacher. To me it made no sense like why would shit stop work? yeah I wouldn't understand I was told..
There were absolutely no logical reason as to why stuff would stop working just because it turned from 1999 to 2000.
but hey even when it was proven to be a myth people went dumb af again the last day of 2011.

The problem was that it _wasn't_ gonna flip from 1999 to 2000. It was gonna flip from 1999 to 1900.
Back when computers and programs were first being built in the 50s and 60s, they didn't use a 4 digit year - they used 19__. Little did anyone imagine that those initial computers and networks would become the backbone of society in fifty years time, so it didn't become clear this was gonna be an issue until the early 90s. Having dates go in order is such a basic function of even hardware that trying to tell any computer system that the past is now the future makes it either glitch horrifically or just shut down.
Hence the panic. Everything had to be updated everywhere to stop that from happening - NASDAQ, banks, phone companies, utility companies, TV companies, satellites, government, the military, universities, the burgeoning consumer internet, home computers, etc. It took thousands upon thousands of computer engineers and techs a few years to do, but since they succeeded, everyone thought it was a whole lotta hype over nothing. However, it was only nothing because of them.

This reminds me realistically of how my friends and I were in sixth or seventh grade at the time. In teen movies from 1999, the actors were practically 30 years old, wore impossibly fashionable designer clothes from Prada and Calvin Klein, and used precocious "Dawson's Creek"-style dialogue.

Lived through Y2K and when I tell you, the anxiety was real, it was the most tensed NYE ever we were just waiting for something terrible to occur.
if you showed “superbad” and “this is the end” to an AI and asked it to create a movie, it would create this exact movie.

I've actually been really surprised in recent years all the interest in something that wasn't that big a deal for the average person back then.
Eric's wife: Because we had the real boy scouts and things like girl scouts or pioneer girls. We knew how to take care of one another, our siblings and ourselves back then. We knew skills like sewing, hemming, reading, using a compass, knowing the direction of the sun, what side of trees moss grow on and all that. How to grow plants for food so even if we don't have the tools in the particular moment, its no biggie we have a plan where when and how to obtain what we need to keep trekking.

If you watched the film, you would know that Snow White started out by singing a song in the tower, and the prince heard her singing, so he started to sing with her. She was enjoying herself, laughing, giggling, and blushing. Secondly, he was not 30 years old, that’s made up. In the original Walt Disney book that tells the story of Snow White, on page 125, it states the prince whose name is Doug Fairbanks is 18 years old and that Snow White is 14. Yet in the movie, it never mentions his age, so I don’t see the problem. None of us growing up when watching the movie assumed he was 30 years old. We assumed they were the same age and the movie never specified so it was clearly intended.
Back then, him being 18 and her being 14 was normal. While it’s definitely wrong by today’s standards, back then, it’s understandable. The remake doesn’t have to make them 14/18, they can be both 18 or younger. Snow whites age in the movie was only mentioned once I believe in the very beginning, so age made absolutely no difference, no one would be upset with changing their ages to fit today’s standards. They could’ve left it at that, but nope, they decided to turn the whole movie woke. No more human actors as dwarves because it’s supposedly offensive, no more classic love story although that was one of the biggest selling points of the movie, and the prince’s role has been reduced to nothing because Rachel and the woke writers think that every movie about a woman has to have them saving themselves, because women neverrrr need men! 🙄 Snow White was Disney’s first animated film ever and they absolutely destroyed it with the live action. How disgusting and selfish.

It was all about what might happen if the calendars built into computers didn't switch from 19-- to 20--. It wouild have been a hassle, but certainly nothing to do with science fiction. Pretty mundane aside from the paranoia.

Thought I was the only one who noticed this ppl seem to love there movies but they really seem to screw everything up just like blumhouse .. they have an amazing concept that could go many different ways and than BOOM... subtly pushing agendas and midway through every movie the plot falls on its face

The reason Y2k wasn't an issue was bc of the computer programmers who worked on it tirelessly to ensure it wasn't an issue. There are articles about them actively working on resolving the matter before the new millennium
