Nice review, thanks
goood review dude! appreciate it. i just bought this monitor =D
Nice laidback review! After seeing this video I just ordered this monitor for my 3090
Finally! 1st review. You deserve like
Much appreciated!
Nice review! I actually just ordered it today, should be arriving next week. Looking forward for the extra real estate of screen. Upgraded from Asus 34" to Predator 34" couple of weeks ago but wasnt blown out the water even though its 5 years between my two 34" screens. I guess tech hasnt really evolved that much since 2016. Anyways 38" and 1600 pixels vertically will be at least different from my previous screens. But if this screen doest give me a Wow-effect I probably have to go get the LG 48 OLED CX instead haha.
Hopefully this does! I feel the 38 was better than 34 for sure
Hello, thanks for the work and video: Please tell me 3090 video card can play top games with maximum settings?
Do you recommend buying this monitor or not? Is the picture high-quality, beautiful? What are its downsides?
I just ordered this one... cant wait.. I had the older 34" Alienware AW3418DW I believe was model.
I have the aw3418dw currently, how are you finding this one. I’m looking to upgrade as well as I want HDR.
@@silentknives21 HDR is not good on the aw3821dw, just like on most IPS panels. The contrast ratio are just not good enough. For proper HDR you really need a VA panel with local dimming or OLED.
Thanks for the reply, i already actually own an lg c9 aswell so know the quality of HDR is miles different i was trying to hold out to see what the 42 inch OLED panel from lg would get put into! i just have no hope of fitting the 48inch at a respectable distance to my face. haha. Any VA monitor recommendations, above 3440x1440p, refresh rate not massively important, like you said higher contrast ratio for better hdr is more important to me. Also as a side note i have an xbox series x so the panel must support 2560 x 1440 aswell as ultra wide. Thanks!
@@silentknives21 hdr is crap on it.
Looks insane.
Glad I found someone has both AW3821DW and 38GN950B!!! Tell me, which one do you like more! :) Please also let me know why, I am torn between these two monitors, need some perspectives. Really appreciate it!
I agree. Help us out BRO
Lg is better
I'd go for the one with a larger screen.
@@robbie84 ...
The AW is marginally better IMHO. We've got both in the office.
What glorious wallpaper is that at 07:49 - blue, orange, red, green, white wave?
I would love to use that on the AW38 I just setup in my den yesterday.
Is that a Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500 speaker system? Nice, I have a set. How long have you had them?
About to get my first gaming pc I’ll be running the new rtx 3090 on it would this monitor or the asus pg35 be the one to go with? I’m a storyline player really don’t do multiplayer much besides games like diablo? Thanks for the feedback ✌🏻
Best review for this widescreen monitor.
Hey I am thinking about getting this monitor. what did you select to use the picture in picture mode?
Nice review! How is the text quality for you? On my AW3420DW the fonts are a little blurry, windows compensates ok, but on mac it’s aweful. So I just ordered this monitor as a replacement, text quality will not be as good as a 4K but I’m hoping it will be better with the x1600 resolution instead of the 1440p on the 34”.
So for my mac what really helped out was buying a USB-C to HDMI cable (amzn.to/3lxGMzr) Only because my display port is used by my PC. Text is great on it and its smooth. Or if you get something like this would be even better (amzn.to/37ARWhW) Usb-c to display port
Do you get a lot of reflection during black screens (When you see yourself on the screen like it is a mirror)??
I have this monitor and its amazing but what settings do you use for contrast / brightness and RGB values? I'm looking for the deepest blacks while keeping the nice picture quality. Also i noticed the Fast option is the only one that doesnt have ghosting while extreme is unusable....
So far I didnt do any calibration this is straight out of the box. Need to figure out, but out of the box it looks great
do you feel red about the left part of the screen and not that red about the right part?
You're using two 1070's in SLI?
So I can't ask you what Ray Tracing looks like here. I'm sure it will look better than my 34" tho.
Curious to see how the newly released Acer X38S will compare…
Aren’t these released yet? Why can I only order it from Dell and not Best Buy???
Has the Herman Miller Flo -arm (max 9kg) been enough sturdy for this monitor or would you recommend the Flo Plus (up to 18kg) for it? - Edit: Ergotron HX Desk Monitor Arm seems to be sturdy enough for this and it has better price/availability in Europe.
The herman miller Flo will not be sturdy enough. Due to the weight and size. I would recommend amzn.to/3pAnjE0
How do movies not have black bars on the sides, could it be to the higher 3840x1600 resolution? Is the image zoomed in? Is it a Disney+ feature only or does it work with Netflix also?
it's a standard cinema aspect ratio (21:9). A lot of programs support the aspect. Even youtube has 21:9 videos.
managed to snag this from dell website for £1110 plus £75 cash back from cashback uk and £80 back from Santander cant wait to get this set up with my evga 3090 ftw ultra great video btw :)
What's it like using it? Positives and negatives appreciated.
@@commercio3564 really impressive monitor great hdr function just the right size games look amazing and with g sync ultimate never have any screen tearing . Negatives are setup to get the monitor how you want it seems to be complicated . The alienware monitor software uses lots of cpu usage so I'd not personally bother with that as you can do everything from the monitor only . It is only hdr 600 not full 1000 but you can't really tell the difference
@@AhhB1ST0 Thank you for the response. I currently have the Acer X35 but I'd honestly like a bit more vertical real estate. The AW seems like a good choice but I'd be giving up a lot of sweet specs haha
does this monitor support picture by picture...? two inputs from a pc and a laptop display on the monitor at the same time
he says it does but i dont know how.. i have the monitor as well.. hope we find out
What do u use x2 2070’s for?
Great review , just one question .. both lg38950 n this alienware monitor when u are gaming..the footage seems washed out is it bevause of ips poor contrast ratio?? It looks very noticeable, unless it's just your camera
Yeah I think it’s my camera hahaha . The Alienware looks really good in person. The LG to me did seem more washed out
@@TeamResearchGroup oh thanks heaps for the heads up. Well my next monitor most likely will the the Alienware , unless lg's new range that are coming up are better. Thanks again
@@aquaman5464 yeah you know I wanted something that matched my Mac retina screen or iPads. I do with LG made one that looks like their OLED tv woulda been great. The Alienware was closer to that then the LG. Good luck!
Compare this to the LG38GB950! Please
What's the desktop wallpaper at the end???. The woman with blue paint on her face? Looks cool.
I bought this monitor back in December, however my rtx3070 has only arrived today, so looking forward to seeing what this monitor can produce :)
Took me some time to find the Wallpaper, 'cause I like it too. It's from the 2017 game "Hellblade".

Any flickering issue ?
How will it be in games with an ATI RX 2020 2021 GPU based card ???? thx
Great video, I think I'll have to buy one for Christmas now!
Hows the HDR?
How do I fix the black borders
Nice video
Can you advise just how much space the stand does take? You say it's a negative of the stand but give no details. Thank you
oh man. not going to lie the stand took A LOT OF space. because its this weird triangle. Thats why I ended up mounting it. Felt like it took 10inches of the desk.
is there a noticeable difference in font clarity between 1440p and 1600p?
Yeah ofcourse. Keep in mind that some older games wont recognize the resolution and default to 1440. Movies wont match perfectly anymore because this isn't 21:9 anymore (black borders). For office work the added height is a plus. And lastly, there's a bit more load on the GPU as there are more pixels to be displayed.
No. The DPI remains roughly the same because of the added vertical space on a 38 inch monitor. But technically speaking, your question can't be answered because we'd need to know the size of the panels to answer it.
@@MasterXL6 The monitor is still 21:9, it's just bigger in size, so PPI is about the same.
There seem to be some uncertainty if this works with freesync. Any ideas?
@@TheMadden And?
great channel!" excellent information, (question) maybe you can help me find a solution? I have Alienware 38" curve monitor AW3821DW with a PS 5 HDMI connected. I cant seem to get the my gaming screen to fill entire curve 38" screen at all? (black bars left & right)
please help I spent alot money for this gaming monitor. An I'm unable to utilize the full screen with PS5 gaming console. what can I do?
Yeah I don’t think it’s possible unless the ps5 has a stretch. It’s because you need the device to change the resolution. So for pc games you can change the resolution to stretch. So maybe in your settings in ps5 you can find a change resolution.
Is 3070 RTX good for this monitor?
Can it support split screens connecting to 2 different computers? E.g. picture in picture?
I don’t believe it is able to do that. For me when switching computers it has a favorites button and I toggle between the two
Just ordered mine. Can't wait for it to arrive. Main concern is the stand which you've just confirmed. Will likely order one tonight to arrive in time.
Disappointed about the lights too. The Sphere lighting looks great on the LG. Wish AW had done something similar. Difference is I got mine for 1/3 of the cost of the LG and I've got Corsair LL lights on the back of my monitor. (You should look into them to replace the glow).
yeah I totally agree! The stand is super solid but I just need the desk space. Wish I could have made it work. Maybe if I have a bigger house and bigger desk. I was also thinking of getting some after market lights or maybe an RGB deskmat
@@TeamResearchGroup I've just mounted mine on an arm and fitted the Corsair LS light strips. They're very difficult to attach to the monitor directly, so I mounted mine to the wall using double sided tape.
Corsair ICUE has a 'video sync' mode that synchronises your screen to the lights. It's really sweet. Just wish they would be a little brighter.
How could I link my wireless keyboard and mouse to the monitor? I bought one recently, however the the wireless key board and mouse cannot be detected.
There is a USB port you plug from the monitor into the computer. The cable should look like this. amzn.to/3vZK71c
Just FYI - more vibrant colors does not automatically mean "better". It is in many cases in fact over saturated. While it may look nice in some instances it is not "correct". To measure if a color is good/correct you need to use a calibrator, and create a profile to correct the colors - to get the colors that were intended by the developer.
If your monitors colors are over saturated this means that the videos you create will look more dull, compared to what you see, on monitors with correct color. Something to think about :)
Hi Can anyone tell how much the package weight pls??
Can you use PiP or PbP with this monitor?
Could not find any such option
Anyone using this monitor with 6800xt or 6900xt for freesync 144hz compatibility ? Seems working but if someone actually has that thx
The color looks great but like with any edge lit display the blacks are lacking but i still believe that this the best 38" ultra wide in the market
Man you took down the sexiest part of the monitor - the stand
Ist der Alienware besser wie der LG38GN950-B
The price was slashed from $1900 to $1399 (right now).
By the time I buy it in Tax Season (March) they'll probably drop it to $1000.
I'll definitely take one to replace my 34" Alienware monitor now that I have a 3090 FTW3.
If you buy it now, you just might be able to get it delivered to you by march.
Now 899 in Germany
Does it support PbP?
How do you like this one vs LG 38 gn950 and 48oled CX?
48oled CX is really uncomparable, but only for gaming
@@Nico-rw2tl as cX is better for gaming?
@@weih723 Yes, Cx48 is the best for gaming, the contrast is crazy. However, the screen is too high for office use. You should know that there is a higher risk of burns with the oled than with the LEDs, but the cx48 tries to avoid that (automatic decrease in brightness, image shift, etc.) .
the tech chap had a video on this ruclips.net/video/xPKrE26sDiM/видео.html
The LG 38GN950 performs better - has better image, better HDR and better response times but uses FreeSync Premium and is G-Sync compatible only. The AW3821DW has better build quality and native G-Sync support(G-Sync Ultimate).
Are games like battlefield full screen?
Certain games are some are not. Some may stretch the aspect ratio. While other games will add black bars on the side to not allow advantages over others
On sale RIGHT NOW $450 OFF 12/8/2020
What a beast. Way too pricey. I ordered the 34" on a Black Friday sale and it still hurt my wallet. I was plenty happy with my 27" but I needed the real estate for work and online classes. That said, I cannot wait to play Cyberpunk 2077. 😁
ahh yes I was debating on getting the 34, but everyone was talking about the 38 aspect ratio!
Great monitor but the 2 top corners of my monitor are damaged, it lacks black color on the black bars, I have to return it.
what you mean by lacks in black colour? do you mean its not completely black? thats pretty much normal for a ips panel especially curved ones.
@@MrSimon1909 No, the 2 upper corners of my screen are badly finished, you can see silver reflections instead of black.
@@MrMETEK23 so you are talking about the bezel and not the actual display?
@@MrSimon1909 absolutely
Bought one about a month ago. Upgraded from previous alienware 34 curved 1080p.
Not really impressed- first one they sent had a stuck pixel in the middle(bought direct from dell). Replacement is ok but the light bleed in the corners are worse than on my 2016 model. I know it’s an ips panel but i expected that the tech has evolved somewhat. Their hdr implementation is crap. Works in bright games like far cry new down and just doesn’t in darker games like tomb raider- half of the screen lights up when there’s any text displayed. Other than that -great display. Just keep in mind that it’s closer to 4k than 1440p so a lot of pixels to drive. And even my 3080 barely cuts it. And dlss is not optimised for ultra wide aspect ratio in most games (in 90% of games). The only 2 games where dlss is optimised for this resolution is cyberpunk and control which runs perfectly without it.
Anyways.
I just ordered one might need a new desk
Whats your opinion of the screen 4 months later? I just ordered mine.
@@coRb77 the PC its self isnt to great, but the monitor isnt to bad also very durable. I recommend if you have the money, its very pricey for what youre getting though.
@@Im.jus.better Yeah got it a week ago and very happy with it. Not using it for HDR movies anyways so.. Mostly for productivity and gaming. Love the 1600p vertical resolution. Never thought 10% more than 1440p could do so much 🙂
@@coRb77 hi, can this featured monitor support split screens connecting to 2 different computers? E.g. picture in picture(
@@yunastreamer606 nope, no such feature. Take a look at upcoming Predator X38S. Coming in Sept or Nov.
why the screen is so bright the black is really grey .
Under camera all screens appear brighter. That said, this screen has an IPS panel. IPS panels do not have great contrast ratio and tend to have worse black level than others, such as VA.
%17 off right now on dell!
I'm torn between this AW3821DW and thee upcoming OLED AW3423DW.
@SR J Waiting for black Friday for AW3423DW
Background music name?
haha shoot I dont know I went some royalty free music site and forgot which one I downloaded
Hello. I bought an AW3821DW monitor and put it in my living room. I try to connect it to a ps4 console.
However, the resolution doesn’t match, the monitor only supports 21:9 aspect ratio, while ps4 only supports 16:9. So the result is there are two large black bars on the sides of the screen. I tried everything, called Dell customer service, there’s nothing they could do. I tried a hdmi to DisplayPort converter, but that didn’t work. I tried to adjust the monitor built in resolution, but surprisingly, there’s no option to do that.
do you have any solutions for getting rid of the black bars while connecting game consoles?
There's nothing you can do. Consoles only support 16:9.
What about the fan?
Super quiet. I don’t hear it
That’s why I went for the 38GN950-b same panel really. Even without the G Sync module at lower FPS.
Stupid fans, sending back my 38GL950-B for this reason
@@MasterXL6 Were you the dude I was talking to on Reddit? You bought the monitor from Germany and it is going to cost a lot to send it back?

good review, but the local dimming test is missing (with this link: ruclips.net/video/3So8OFdqcdA/видео.html ) to know the quality of the screen backlighting...
That lightbleed tho...
bleed always looks worse on camera. Isn't that noticeable in real unless you're in a pitch-black room. But that's the same as any ips monitor really.
that's IPS for you
can this run 4k?
it's slightly lower res than 4k. It's sort of in-between 2k and 4k.
@@liam4184 So... 3K?
This monitor have fan inside (cooling G-sync module) and its working ALL THE TIME (yeah - ALL THE TIME, after power button pressing too)... You need to disconnect it from wall socket 😔... I bought some power extension cable with more sockets AND with BUTTON. Now im turning off all my connected devices to it - after PC is shutted down 👍!
P.S. You can hear that monitor fan - listen on up holes, from center and a little to the right 😎!
P.S. It works with AMD card, because G-Sync Ultimate (G-Sync II) supports AMD Freesync 🥳, only enable Compatibility in "Display" settings (in AMD Control panel) and enable "Freesync ON" for every game (yeah, for every idividually, because its AMD and default is AMD Optimized setting (change it to ON) 😇! Enable G-Sync on monitor too, before driver option change 🤪!

Man I here. Alone in the AM. Kinda dark. Looking at monitor reviews and here comes Mister Sleep-aid by Day and Murderer by Night. I have goosebumps.
Not wide enough
Just wide enough for me. Currently own 2 4k 27inch monitors, and find that it's just too wide for productivity workflows. 21:9 is the sweet spot for me.
