I just bought it today and waiting for it to arrive. Returning my x38p cause this has HDR600 and g-sync ultimate. I’ve read a bunch of reviews and this included of people hating on the HDR edge lit local dimming. What’s been your experience with the HDR? And do you use the 120hz so you get the 10 bit color? Over the last month and a half I’ve been on deep dives trying to figure what’s good and it hurts the brain a bit lol

@@LibertyOrDeath87 I don't really bother with HDR, I just use out of the box settings. It is still a crazy immersive gaming experience. HDR has never been a huge part of the buying process for me tbh. You can check out the LG CX 48 for HDR, but I had that TV and it hurt my eyes as a monitor...
I use 120hz and it's awesome. Only problem is I haven't been able to get a 3080 so I don't have many games that get over 120 fps atm lol.
The Samsungs I personally avoided altogether, just too many QC issues and the curve is too extreme for me. The Neo's are fresh out I think so only time will tell.

But HDR can still be utilized at the 10bit 120hz setting right? Just still confused on how this all works. Does having gsync ultimate help up FPS as well?

@@LibertyOrDeath87 HDR is a hit and miss with this monitor. When it works it's great and really bright! But the edge lit dimming is very distracting in dark areas. • @LibertyOrDeath87

@@kelvw76 so for now this is the best option in a 38” with HDR 600 gsync ultimate right? I was coming from an old Predator 27” TN 1440k so this is all much better than that. The X35 is too much but it’s definitely time for an upgrade especially since I can’t get my hands on a new GPU. Also, do you recommend 120hz at 10bits? I can’t even push that with my card anyway so figured might as well.

HDR does some funny things while im reading text on a while background (so mainly in word), where the brightness will noticeably change as i move my mouse around, which can be distracting but other than that, its still the best monitor i have owned. also helps i got it for $1500 aud down from the normal $2300 its listed for.

Alienware and Dell in general has a bad reputation these days for overpriced pre-builts. Their monitors on the other hand are very good. I've had gaming monitors from MSI and Gigabyte before getting a couple from Alienware and have had the best experience with the Alienware monitors. I currently have the 3420dw as my main gaming monitor and it's been fantastic for the past couple years. I previously had a 27" panel from Alineware although I don't recall the model number. It was very good as well and prompted me to purchase the 34" curved ultrawide. I recently ordered their new QD-OLED monitor and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival. I just wish it came in the 38" size like the one discussed in the video. My perfect monitor would be around 38-42". Hopefully there will be a QD-OLED in the slightly larger size someday.

I have the "previous" model, the Dell U3818DW, since 2018 and it's a great all-rounder. Except for dark scenes in movies where the backlight is very noticeable. I would be tempted to upgrade to this, instead of waiting for 40 inch 4K OLED panels to become a thing (why is that taking so long?!?), as the backlight seems to be a huge improvement. Although I'd probably have to also upgrade my graphics card to benefit from the higher refresh rates, as my trusty old 1060 probably wouldn't be up to the job of 144 Hz at that resolution! Hmm, I wonder if Dell do trade-ins? ;-)

Hi ty for the review! 😍now im in a hurry state.
return my acerx34gs and upgrade for what? or whait, cuz there is only one reason to return a acer 180 hz or 144hx in 10 bit 1m up to 0,5 mmsec that reason is only blooming especially regarding coners.
NOW: It would be so nice and importen to se this AW3821DW Nano IPS bloom for us self! right?
Best AND easy way FOR THAT: chose a all black desktop background color in windows. and record that or picture it as u se it there-
This will show what we get in bloominG.
i know the camera used to record this will PROBABLY overproduce the blooming. However it can be edited down with resolve/adobe or camera tweeks ofc. The test should include booth hdr off and on. It woulld be then the best reveiw made. now im areviwer for many things, but i have ilness now so i cant do this now. i realy want to reveiw it. also u cound try show us the differ fom full bright etc and hdr on, i cant se it. only on oled tvs i can see it good with less brigness. we sitt so close to a monitor... i usally have to turn down
lights and mess with manual settings or it would be to much for the eyes. blue light just ruin it all anyw. glases i dont wana have
Also i cant se any differ from setting on HDR in my x34ds in games or in windows/movies seems it just just pull up the brightness max and dark boost for IPS hdr. so why turn it on on the monitor. looks amazing vivid and crisp the same way with only manual tweeks? also yh hdr on mis cool , howerver they dont to it good on white clouds win shine and sun, its just to much and u cant se the pvp pleyer as good. better tund off in some competition games.
Now i hear the alienware 34 oled suffer from rendering sub text problems are no go for producers and editing ,reslove, blender or other more coplex stuff. Also some rare streaming movcies issues i heard like netflix?

Just to share my experience with this monitor
    Pros
Comfortable viewing experience since it is a curved monitor even though it is huge at 38 inches
Smooth gaming experience. Slightly smoother than those monitor without gsync module but of course you need a powerful graphic card for it, at least rtx 3080 imo. I am getting 80 fps on tiny tina's wonderlands, 80 fps on witcher 3 without ray tracing
Goes plenty bright. Almost 650 nits of brightness for HDR
No fan noise despite having g sync module.
The unique Alienware design. one the best looking ultrawide monitor design to date.
USB 3.2 upstream port instead of USB 3.0 e.g. in predator X38s.
Superior uniformity of panel. No backlight bleed or dead pixel and minimal glow at bottom left corner -when I received it
More vertical pixels of 200 compared to WQHD monitor , so when viewing web content wont felt squeezed vertically.
Extremely low standby power less than 0.3watt after 30 min of no signal input. Power efficient, 50 to 70 watt avg. 110 watt with HDR full brightness. Yes, i measured it with smart plug.
two 3.5mm jack. so can just hook up speaker to the monitor.
excellent cable management system, the cable cover design is well thought out .
    slim bezel all around.
conveniently placed two usb ports at the front center instead at the sides.
    Cons:
No gamma and color profile adjustment (biggest con). default color temperature is slightly cold to my liking. Dell could have calibrated it more accurately from factory. i assume there is no factory calibration as there is no calibration chart provided in the box.
Automatic brightness adjustment has no level of adjustment- the only automatic dimming feature is too aggressive at dimming and is almost unusable for me.
Lighting FX is too gimmicky, especially the downlight which barely able to shine any object on the desk below it. wish it could be brighter and hence functional.
Slightly less vibrancy compared to my previous 4k monitor. Want vibrancy? just go oled or quantum dot panel.
Lower PPI compared to 4k 27 inch monitor. Text and 4k video looks less sharp compared to 4k monitor 27 inch monitor.
No FALD backlighting. Only 32 dimming zones. for this price, it should have come with more dimming zones, at least 100.
Alienware command center is buggy/ not working on typical not alienware/ dell pc. eventually, i have to uninstall the software and use the monitor as it is.
    .Not all content fit perfectly.
only 1 display port 1.4 due to limitation of g sync module. btw, nvidia g sync module is an outdate tech.
cant display 10 bit at 144 hz. in order to achieve 10 bit, the refresh rate needs to be dropped down to 120 hz. This is due to limitation of DP 1.4.
    no HDMI 2.1.
Basic rgb control. . no dynamic reactive rgb.
could have more aggressive curve to get the wrap around view.
    no built in speaker.
no adjustment for comfort view. i want it to be less warm.
it is 2020 product, so kind of outdated, e.g. lacking hdmi 2.1, proper FALD, mini led technology.
provided hdmi and DP cable are just too short 1.5 meter . maybe a problem for those who place their pc on the floor.
annoying eco message on screen when in semi standby .
no autoswitch input like in other monitors with g sync compatible / free sync premium. This is due to limitation of having gsync module. so in order to switch input from DP to HDMI 1 or 2 , need to use the navigation stick or use the configured 3 button shortcuts

I've been looking to buy this panel (more specifically, the office version LG 38WN95C-W) for a while now, but it's just too darn expensive. The real standalone feature of this panel is the aspect ratio of 24:10 (=ultrawide 16:10) with 1600 vertical pixels with a 110DPI (same as 27" 16:9 with 1440p). The problem I have is I want a multi-monitor setup and from experience it's best to keep it with a consistent DPI. As a center monitor, 27" feels a bit small and restricted, especially vertically. But 32" 16:9 is a bit too large, and too low DPI with 1440p and too high DPI with 2160p.

They really need a VA panel version. The terrible contrast is extremely noticeable even just watching. Blacks are super light grey.
I really don’t understand the argument some have over wanting IPS for colors when VA panels can have equal or better color gamuts. But their contrast ratios are superior and give scenes a must more realistic look whether dark scenes or shadows.
Right now even at $1299 you get colors that mostly match the $499 34” free sync model with less than half the contrast. The 38” has a measly 800:1 ish contrast ratio.
It is just unacceptable when at that price a 48” c1 oled smokes this day and night for less money.

    • @laggmonstret

Becuase VA sucks with ghosting and smeared picture compare to the clarity having a good top end IPS screen with little to none IPS Glow, like the 32GQ950 with G-SYNC. @@laggmonstret surprisingly I found one I’m happy with after all this time. I ended up getting a Sony M8 4k 144hz IPS with local dimming. It’s the best damn monitor I’ve ever bought. The contrast isn’t better than my oled tv but, I feel like it’s close enough that I could live with never having the oled.
I still would gladly have the Alienware but until it’s $900-1000 (not expecting it to ever be) it’s gonna have to wait lol I’m sure it’s every bit more amazing as it seems.

i think at this price point it shoukd have usb-c/thunderbolt3 input as it is an actual hassle if you try to connect a laptop via adapters

You cant have that, any monitor with G-sync module support ONLY 1xDP and 2xHDMI, if you want usb-c/TB3 you have to look at nongaming monitors.
