Alienware 38" ULTRAWIDE - My favorite upgrade so far for sim racing, gaming, videos and programming
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 авг 2024
- hey everyone romel here and this is my first video of 2022! In this video I talk about the alienware aw3821dw and my experiences going ultrawide from my previous setup of 2x 27". I realized a bit later on that this video isn't focused too much on the technical aspects of the monitor but rather my experience with the ultrawide. I do hope it still helps you out!
I've been using this monitor for sim racing, programming, content creation, and gaming.

Thanks for doing the programming part. So many of the other reviews just have something up going fullscreen the whole time and my primary use case is to have 3 windows open side by side so its nice to see how that looks.
this!
Your review did it! Just bought this panel for my 3090
3060ti ok
I just bought this monitor and your video is the best I've seen on it. I also love sim racing and play a mix of VR (Vive Pro2) and monitor (since Forza and a few other titles don't support VR) Good info on the GPU, I just bought a Alienware Ryzen edition with the 3080 and the R9 5900x so your vid really makes me feel good about the decisions I made.....soo Thank you!!
I hope you enjoy it! The 3080 should be great with the AW3821DW, i've been contemplating making that jump but sooo close to the 4xxx series that I should hold off lol.
Very detailed! Love the video!
Thank you!
This was an awesome video thank you. We have the same job and play the same games so this looks perfect. What is your recommended racing sim games?
Hey mate, great video. Can i ask what your desk depth is ?
Nice review!
Would be also really useful to know which "Scale" value Windows OS shows as "Recommended": is it 100%, 125% or 150% etc?
For example on a 27'' 4K monitor 150% scaling is marked as (Recommended) on Windows.
Does for this resolution Windows also recommends scaling of more than 100%?
I love your monitor 🙌🏽, I have the 34 version of yours. I need that 38
Get it!!! Use your 34 as your secondary ;)
Great Video! :D
Thanks!!! Appreciate it
Just for your info - you should drop the refresh rate to 120hz for 4:4:4 chroma subsampling (which makes text clearer). This is done through the Nvidia Control Panel. And it won't hurt you at all when you're gaming.
Thanks, any other tips ?
Does the 4;4;4 CS automatically happen? all I see when changing to 120hz in nvida control panel is that I can change color depth to 10-bit, is that the same as 4;4;4 chroma subsampling?
@@StevenSilva YOU DONT NEED TO DO THAT. It will work just fine at native or overclocked refresh rates.
@@StevenSilva yes. 4:4:4 CS when running 120hz will resume 10-bit color. it's the same for mac. Changed from variable to force 120 and its reporting 10bit color without any other changes. this is also on DP 1.4
Sheeeesh 😍
Hello! You have a good quality content and I kept looking if ergotron can adapt to this type of monitor. I would appreciate it very much if you could make a video in which you can show how you adapt the support to this type of monitor. Thank you in advance!
Hey there! Thank you for the kind words! I do have a video just in the Ergotron HX with this monitor. Let me know what kind of questions you have and I’ll do my best to answer!
Been using this monitor for about a year myself mostly for gaming, and generally I’m a fan of it. Just FYI, the color gamut coverage doesn’t equate to color accuracy.
Hey Romel great video! Can you please review your monitor arm and how you measured up being able to rotate your AW3821DW to your Sim rig next to your desk? I'm keen to do exactly the same thing!
Hey @Simon Buchanan yes! This is definitely something I can do, I’ll try to work on this review and hopefully get it up next week or earlier!
@@romeldris awesome, thanks!! My AW3821DW is arriving soon but I haven’t chosen a monitor arm or desk yet. Keen to hear all about yours, especially weight and measurement considerations 👍😎
Thanks for the video. QUESTION - do you know if PBP from two different inputs works on this? Would love to have my work computer on one side and personal on the other simultaneously. Similarly, do you know if the usb hub on bottom front will adjust based on the source (ie act as kvm switch)? Thanks! Probably going to buy it regardless but it’s definitely a steep price tag.
It doesn't have dual usb input nor the ability to change the monitor input via dcc commands. This a probably due to the gsync implementation. In the past I've used a usb switch successfully but now use a level1tech displayport 1.4 kvm. i also turned off eco mode as I found it to be buggy.
This is crazy. I live in Ottawa Canada and really want to drop VR for sim racing. I love sim racing in assetto Corsa ACC and iRacing but it seems the screen is better for ACC/iRacing but I'll always VR assetto Corsa. I finally completed my sim rig in white and this is the only piece missing... The white monitor. Which cockpit did you go with man? See u on Twitch!
I ended up getting an AdvancedSimRacing ASR3! They’re based in Canada as well out of Montreal so not too far from you :P. I wish I didn’t get dizzy playing in VR otherwise I think it’s just be a lot better for the immersion aspect haha
subscribed! Nice video!
Awesome, thank you!
@@romeldris You are very welcome romel! Bought the same monitor... just awesome! Thank you!
I hot the same monitor... its a BEAST!!! but I still looking for the arm support. Do you have any arm for it? Can you help me?
Thank you for the great video. I have a few questions regarding productivity.
Q1: Does it have the following features: Picture-by-Picture (PbP), Picture-in-Picture (PiP) & KVM?
Q2: Does it come with the "Dell Display Manager"? if "NOT", can it be installed?
Q3: for light gaming and mainly productivity usage what do you suggest between U3821DW & AW3821DW?
Q4- Is the Nano IPS experience really superior than IPS in real life especially for productivity tasks (ex. coding, texts clarity/sharpness) ?
No worries! Let me do my best to answer these
Q1: It does not have either picture by picture or pip or a kvm unfortuantely
Q2. It does not and it does not appear as a file on the download list (I end up using Rectangle when i'm on my mac)
Q3: I think it depends on the type of gaming you enjoy, for me since I like competitive shooters I really needed the high refresh rate monitor. I've used Dell Ultrasharps to game before but that was when I wasn't playing too many competitive shooters and was ok with the 60hz refresh rate.
Q4: I honestly cannot see a difference in terms of the text / clarity and sharpness between the AW3821DW and my AD27QD (just IPS not nano i think). It looks sharp and I think the difference is definitely a lot more noticeable coming from a TN panel to IPS rather than IPS to nano ips.
Let me know if this was able to help you out or if you've got any other questions!
@@romeldris Thank you for the detailed responses. Highly appreciate it!
I have a 3080ti paired with this monitor it’s amazing I play cod pubg games like that this monitor is the perfect size man I got it on sale as well 1,200 worth every penny I used to have the aw2721d I ended up selling it cause I couldn’t tell the difference when playing 240hz and 144hz at all might just be me tho
Have the 27" 244hz they are offering to replace with this ? Bought for $505, worth it ?
Do you think a 3080 12GB would pair well with this monitor?
As someone who was been living with ultra wide screens for the past 8 years, it would feel strange without the black bars. I have gotten so used to them, that it feels weird when i go to someone else's home and see 16:9 content in fulscreen. Black bars mean nothing while you're gaming.. you're just not gonna see them.
if I have a 7900xt video card, would this monitor work. Can G-sync still work on my AMD card? Please let me know
hey how did you made it possible to put your games in the middle with black side panels? I tried with dota2 for example, and it only stays in one side of the screen and I see the desktop background and icons on the remaining part.... do you use software. I tried with dell display manager, but it is not compatible with my Alienware AW3821DW
I didn't have to use any extra software or make any adjustments. One thing I can think of is do you have the scaling set correctly in your GPU control panel? In my NVIDIA control panel, I have it set to "aspect ratio" as the scaling option
can you try dota 2 in this monitor ?
Do you know if this monitor will fill up the whole screen without black bars while using console
It won't... aspect ratio for consoles doesn't support
@@babagandu ok thanks, so it can’t even stretch it?
@@FLY7MARK I don't think, I will try to check settings when I get mine
@@babagandu alright thanks
This better than dell 34
When gaming how do I make it full screen?
It depends on what games you’re playing and if they support widescreen unfortunately.
Did you consider Samsung G9 Neo?
I did! If it was just a dedicated sim racing monitor I most likely would have chosen the G9 or even a triple monitor. Since I do use it for everything else it would’ve been slightly too big for my use cases. I do want to try one eventually to see how it compares though!
Link to monitor arm?
This is the monitor arm that I'm using: amzn.to/3KAtksg
j aime ton fond d'écran c'est quoi ?
merci

@@romeldris ohhhh thanks bro have a nice day
Dude tell us about the monitor.
All I hear is I did this I did that I I I I I I goooodd god
I left links in the description for more technical reviews :) I mentioned that this video was going to be about my experiences with it rather than a technical deep dive
Why are you playing MUSIC while you are explaining information it is VERY VERY distracting did you play music
while in school and in class or at any learning situation ???? . Guess it's not your fault I find now all You Tubers
are now doing it with the exception of a few intelligence ones who have respect for their viewers ....
Don't you think if I need music I can play my own music ????????
I appreciate the feedback! I like to play music just because without it it feels rather empty. I do try to keep it a very low volume to just fill the white noise. I'll keep this into consideration when making future videos especially if it's more on the informative side and the content would require focus. 🙏
Thanks for the reply but some of us do have different sound systems and the music RUclipsrs play very often is MUCH louder than speech and we have to quickly reach for the volume control .
I get annoyed when the RUclipsrs play the music too loud, however , I felt like this RUclipsr had the volume just perfect.
The music in the background is perfect... Thank you...
what monitor arms are you using that allow you to arrange the smaller monitor on top of
