I have the AW m15 R3 laptop in white, it matches this monitor perfect. However, the micro center guy here told me don't get it but didn't give a solid reason why. He said to get the acer predator 34", and said every employee there has it. I just have to have the AW38 because it's gorgeous and matches my AW laptop and I'm willing to pay the extra to have it. So I guess my question to you is, any major reason why I shouldn't by this AW3821dw? So far how do you like it? BTW, I edit video too and I understand this AW monitor is good all around. Thanks in advance..
I like the warranty, the size, the simple menu, internal supply (no power brick), useability for a daily driver and casual gaming. What all reviewers forget is that not everyone in their audience is a hardcore gamer. Some of us are more concerned with color accuracy than HDR or refresh rate. I just bought his last night after trying to find a new monitor for months. I was swaying between this and the LG 38GN/GL950 variants. Amazon has this right now for $1099, and last night they had a 10% off sale. I grabbed this for $990 and it arrives tomorrow (gotta love Prime). Regardless of the monitor shortcomings I have confidence it will be a far vast improvement over my 2-year-old 27" basic 1080p dual monitor setup I currently have.

It's honestly been really difficult looking for any ultra wide that had 100hz or more, with decent color accuracy. I mostly color-grade/edit video for my work, but I occasionally game. I have one of these Monitors (got a really great deal on it at the end of December) and I love it. Two things to take into consideration though. It comes with a 1m display cable, which is a bit short for a Monitor this size (it's nearly a meter wide and needs a big desk) and you'll need a monster GPU to utilise it properly. My GTX 2080 Super is really pushed and 144 fps is just a pipe dream for the time being.

Honestly I didn't know about the issues it had when I did the review. Upon research, I see. Though the pixel response times on the G9 are better than this Alienware (Partially because of 240Hz. Surprisingly stupid good for a VA.) I'm using another ultrawide right now that I'm reviewing, and immediately after plugging it in, I see the difference the Alienware offered that the current ultrawide I'm using doesn't.

i was never into ultrawide monitors simply because i know i wouldn't be able to play as competitive as i would like in fps games but damn as im getting older i might just accept my boomer fate and reconsider my gaming future.
I don't get this argument. You can always set the monitor to 16:9 if you need the performance to push more fps. And if 144hz isn't enough, you can get the lg 34gn850 with 165hz. As if 240hz is so much better. That's mostly marketing. It's not like going to 144hz from 60hz.
I'm honestly the same way. After my CS:GO days, sure I still want to rekt people, but I'm getting old. My gray hairs are showing (Figuratively. Gamer years.)
Ive had this monitor for a week now and the HDR can be good in some games like horizon zero dawn and destiny 2. I just wish i didnt have to enable it in windows but instead an actual option in the OSD.
"Major disadvantage compared to someone with a 240hz or 360hz" I don't know how major is major to him is. He said he is confident in what he is saying. Pretty humble haha
You have to be really young apparently (16-20 range) to even notice anything above 144htz. I've compared 144 to 244 side by side and notice no difference whatsoever in gaming. Have perfect eyesight but I'm into my 30's now. But the difference between 60htz and 144htz is absolute night and day.
I moved from a very modest 22" 1080p panel to ultrawide with a 29" 2560x1080 nearly ten years ago. Before long I moved to 3440x1440 and of course needed a beefier video card to drive it. That worked for several years, then along came 144Hz 3440... Now I'm gaming on a 32" 144Hz 4K panel. But 3840x1600 intrigues me. As good as 4K is, I sometimes miss 21:9.
just bought this monitor after owning the odyssey neo g9 for 6 months and I really loved the neo g9 the only reason why I had to buy a different monitor was cause my neo LITERALLY SPLIT IN HALF and so far after 3 days of using this monitor the only thing Im gonna miss is the 240hz however trading that for a monitor thats a bit taller imo is so far worth it
i've never thought ultrawides actually get you more immersed in games, it only looked like some marketing technique companies are using, i'm actually considering getting one in a few months, and thanks for the review pal, well done
Definitely worth it!! I went from a UHD 27" to an ultrawide 34" curved. So much better. Now, I want to go to 38" curved. Torn between this and LG 38GL950g. I like Gsync modules. I think 38" should be max.
In a word...awesome, given that I'm coming from an ASUS 28". I started up one of my older games, Left for Dead. After it loaded, I was impressed. It was like seeing a movie at a theatre. That curved screen makes all the difference. Just can't wait until I get a 3080ti GPU. Ha! HaI! I only had to wait six days to have it delivered, in perfect condition. Buy it cause you will like it. My last comment. Have a very comfortable chair, you will be spending a lot of time in it. I have no connection with DELL.
I appreciate the review, but have to disagree on several main points. Native G-sync is much preferred so you don't have to always be messing with settings to avoid overshoot and other issues. I know the G9 might be appealing for some, but there's such a thing as too wide and too curved. Plus, it's a VA panel which really messes up text when scrolling. Not to mention the Dell AW3821 provides a couple extra vertical inches. My only gripe comes down to my personal preference of fps over size. I feel like 3440x1440 is the sweet spot for an RTX 3080 and anything larger than that is going to drop below 60fps in most modern games. Honestly, I think the real dillema is between this and the 48inch LG CX OLED TV.
Since this is my first ultrawide, I'm going in blind so I have no clue what I'm talking about in that regard. Good points to hear though. I'm running a 3080 myself (TUF OC) and it runs literally anything like a champ (Except Star Citizen but that's nothing new.) Games run at extremely high refresh rates and when I was playing valorant, I was getting anywhere from 250-450 FPS. So this higher resolution shouldn't be an issue on AAA games or competitive titles.
I agree. In AU the G9 is A$2800 plus shipping, you can get the AW3821DW for A$1680 at the moment, shipped, 25% discount. I don't trust VA not to ghost, I prefer IPS for gaming. The TFTcentral review has the input lag as 2ms and GTG response as 4ms, both of which are basically class leading. About the only thing that I expect would need much dropping of quality settings would be Cyberpunk. Gsync will help. I think this is definitely the sweetspot in value and performance. The Predator X38 is $2599, too expensive, and who knows what the input lag is. If you don't overclock, it's likely no better than the AW3821DW. The LG38GL950 is $2750 and requires overclocking to go above 144Hz. That is the competition at 38" ultrawide. The AW3821DW blows everything else out of the water with value if you don't overclock. For 34", you struggle to get above 144Hz and IPS without overclocking. The Predator X34S isn't out yet.
As G9 goes, it has too many issues, and at least for myself it's too wide, 21:9 is about as much wide as I can accept. Software control not working is related to the G-sync module and pretty much the same issue on all G-sync monitors. I also prefer this having 2nd gen G-sync module because of two reasons: - it have wider refresh range than freesync - there are much fewer issues with G-sync than freesync (tested few freesync monitors and sadly quite a few of them having BIG issueS with Nvidia GPUs) An alternative for aw3821dw is LG 38GN950-B which has the same panel but is freesync, thought at the time of my purchase they cost pretty much the same (LG was $100 less). I preferred Alienware because of G-sync advantage as well as much better support, better bad pixel warranty, and advanced next day on-site replacement on the Dell side.
Imagine not commenting: ""“Minecraft" "ASMR" "pewdiepie" "music" "Fortnite" "markiplier" “RUclips is a perfectly balanced game with no exploits.” "Runescape" "World of Warcraft" "Shadowlands" "Dream" "MrBeast" "Warzone" "FaZe Clan" "100 Thieves" "Call of Duty" "Pokemon" "Pokemon cards" "card unboxing" "Charizard" "they don't want you to know" "Flat earth" "round earth" "triangle earth" "the earth is not earth" "what even is earth if not earth omg government is lying to you" "Minecraft" "ASMR" "pewdiepie" "music" "Fortnite" "markiplier" “RUclips is a perfectly balanced game with no exploits.” "Runescape" "World of Warcraft"
The physical g-sync module is what makes me actually INTERESTED in this monitor. As capatable-only monitors absolutely suck compared to dedicated module performance for tearing and stuttering. I will however admit, the price is too damn high for this monitor. I would struggle to justify buying it at even just $1200, but at $1400-1500 it's just not a good purchase for anyone.
In my country, the Alienware is cheaper by about $120-150 than LG's 38WN95C-W and 38GN950, and LG's monitors don't even have the G-Sync module. So you kinda have to ask yourself how LG can justify their prices when Dell has a monitor that uses the same panel, have nearly identical specs overall AND they were even able to cram in the G-Sync module and still be cheaper. Also, on the subject of Alienware's G-Sync module, I'm seeing a lot of people saying it has a whisper quiet fan and can't even be compared to other G-Sync module you find in ultra wides like the Acer X38. Great video by the way, love the production quality! What tools did you use for calibrating the monitor?
How are you calibrating this? Through windows or is there a way to do this from within the monitor menu? For what it's worth, the G9 is 31:9 aspect ratio. This is teh equivalent of two 27" monitors side by side. The experience IMO would be like looking thru a very wide but narrow slit. Its not going to be the same as this large 21:9 display. (At least based on my use of dual 27" monitors)
Little extra info if someone hasn't covered it. 38GN950-B.AUS is this monitor with Gsync compatible and retails for $1600. There is another version 38WN59C-W that is Gsync compatible with thunderbolt that also retails for $1600, and then the 38GL950G-B with Gsync that retails for $1800 but has an annoying fan. The Dell has the highest retail price but typically undercuts the others, even when they are on sale. After having dealt with LG customer service, I went with the Dell largely for the better warranty. Unfortunately my shipment was "lost" at the local FedEx distro center and I now have to wait for one to be built. I know, first world problems...
You want Gsync ultimate if you own an Nvidia graphics card. The Gsync compatibility software isn't that good. I've tried a Gsync compatibility gaming monitor and was not happy. So I took it back and got a Gsync monitor and couldn't be more happier. Until they figure it out, stay with the brand of the of the graphics card you have with the Sync technology monitor.
It's true. I have used a 24'" 16:10 for years. I now own a 34" but I have placed an order and upgraded to this 38" Alienware. I am stoked for the extra 4 inches and more vertical real estate over the 34" I have now!
Just wanna put this out there as a PSA: I have the LG GN38950, and the panel is REALLY problematic. I've done 2 trades with LG and both panels had dead pixels. The second one had incredibly bad backlight bleed in the corners. Enough to detract from the viewing experience. I don't think I'll ever trust a LG monitor again, given how daaamn expensive this was. The alienware is likely to have better QC (from my experiences with Dell), but it's also unjustifiably more expensive than the LG 38"
People are reporting QC issues with the AW3821DW as well. You're going to run into those problems no matter which model you buy. Both panels are made by LG.
Yes, Ultrawides 😁 I am really into ultra wides and cant go back to 16:9! This monitor was on my list, but I think I want a bit more of competitiveness. I was waiting for the Acer X34S and my hopes for it beeing good got even higher when NVIDIA announced it would include the Latency-Analyzer-Tool. Keep up the great reviews! Also..man the Black Equalizer sucks on the Alienware xD
I actually just got the Samsung Odyssey G9 49" Monitor, and although it's absolutely beautiful, I find that it's a bit too much head movement for general PC viewing, plus also, I'd prefer the extra couple of inches more than the 13.5" screen height, so I was considering returning it for this Alienware AW3821DW...will I regret it? Thanks.
I got one from Amazon warehouse to compare. I didn't feel like paying full price. So if it comes in good enough condition to review, that will be a review.
Great review. I have a AW3821DW and I'm not a pro user, I just want to play some games and maybe watch a few Films. Just how do I go about calibrating my monitor? Just which software/utilities I can use to create a color profile?
Dell is selling this for 1100 on holiday sales right now just picked one up to replace my 6year old acer predator x34 100hz. The x34 still works fine I’ll find a second use for it
Hey man, what is the depth of your desk and what do you consider a comfortable position to have your eyes from the screen? With the original stand, you have to count 25cm/10" from the very back to the front of the screen so that space is already 'lost'. :)
Waiting for this only. But last question is still in my mind should I go for LG 4k 144hz with This ultrawide or the Alienware 2k 240hz with LG 4k 144hz. If I get a answer from you my confusion will be over. As I am a casual gamer
I like the double monitor bc I use it vertically but if you don’t use it it doesn’t matter. Also from what I’ve been able to tell on COD 240 is a lot smoother than 144 but that’s just me
How can you so heavily recommend the G9 - without ever using or reviewing one personally? It's a completely different monitor. It's significantly larger with a much higher curvature. It has a different aspect ratio, higher resolution but less vertical pixels, less support from games and is a far more demanding on your GPU to run.
I currently have the Alienware aw2721d and was thinking of going to a ultra wide. What’s your opinion if o should. Looking for a 34” I’m thinking though but the drop from 240hz to 120 or 144 is a lot. Figured you tested a lot you may have a good option to choose from
Most people would struggle to consistently pick 240hz over 144hz in a blind test. Unless you are a "true" top level FPS competitive gamer, you are probably over valuing that 240hz. You will likely get FAR more enjoyment and benefit out of a 144hz Ultra-wide over any 240hz 16:9.

@@johnmclain250 even 60 to 90 is big difference. I can't stand those ps4 games at 30 fps. Far cry 5 at 30 fps sucks too.
I have this monitor and and the aw2721d 240hz couldn’t tell the difference in speed either lol the 38” by far is my fave
Looking fresh!
Both you and the monitor.
Lmao, mainstream, love it
Ultrawides are WAY more immersive in gaming hands down. Try it, you will never go back.
Oversaturation in green and red are very nice

Kindly compare deatils review on which one to buy in Alienware AW3821DW VS LG 38gn950
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO FOR A WHILE! To bad I can’t afford it and have to stick with the 1440p 240hz version
Oh yeah, you probably had it already but... 1440p!
Also love the snowy roof background
In a word...awesome, given that I'm coming from an ASUS 28". I started up one of my older games, Left for Dead. After it loaded, I was impressed. It was like seeing a movie at a theatre. That curved screen makes all the difference. Just can't wait until I get a 3080ti GPU. Ha! HaI! I only had to wait six days to have it delivered, in perfect condition. Buy it cause you will like it. My last comment. Have a very comfortable chair, you will be spending a lot of time in it. I have no connection with DELL.
Love your reviews. I love all my alienware monitors!
Great review!👍
This is a really good review.
Absolutely impecable review.
As G9 goes, it has too many issues, and at least for myself it's too wide, 21:9 is about as much wide as I can accept.
Software control not working is related to the G-sync module and pretty much the same issue on all G-sync monitors.
I also prefer this having 2nd gen G-sync module because of two reasons:
- it have wider refresh range than freesync
- there are much fewer issues with G-sync than freesync (tested few freesync monitors and sadly quite a few of them having BIG issueS with Nvidia GPUs)
An alternative for aw3821dw is LG 38GN950-B which has the same panel but is freesync, thought at the time of my purchase they cost pretty much the same (LG was $100 less).
I preferred Alienware because of G-sync advantage as well as much better support, better bad pixel warranty, and advanced next day on-site replacement on the Dell side.
Subtitles!!! yeahhh!! As always, great review.

Cool to see someone else playing star citizen 👌
Can't wait for it to be finished for my grandkids to play 😂
With the shitty tariffs, I gave up on trying to get the new hardware.
Ilove your reviews my bro🔥
"Basically, I'm really good." humble.
Super 😂
The physical g-sync module is what makes me actually INTERESTED in this monitor. As capatable-only monitors absolutely suck compared to dedicated module performance for tearing and stuttering. I will however admit, the price is too damn high for this monitor. I would struggle to justify buying it at even just $1200, but at $1400-1500 it's just not a good purchase for anyone.
It was $1099 on Black Friday lol but okay
What tools did you use for calibrating the monitor?
just bought this new for half the price of the g9, excited to set it up soon.
g9 is $2800 AUD AW was $1500 (coupons and sale)
What a journey lol
You want Gsync ultimate if you own an Nvidia graphics card. The Gsync compatibility software isn't that good. I've tried a Gsync compatibility gaming monitor and was not happy. So I took it back and got a Gsync monitor and couldn't be more happier. Until they figure it out, stay with the brand of the of the graphics card you have with the Sync technology monitor.
So i had the tough decision of choosing between this and the LG 38 ultra... safe to say i went with LG... far better experience.
Excellent review 👌
Now you have to review the so claimed best budget ultra wide monitor AOC CU34G2X
Once you go Ultrawide, you really don't want to go back. Use MS Fancyzones for great windows management.
Thanks for the info (Been looking to get more info about this)

I actually just got the Samsung Odyssey G9 49" Monitor, and although it's absolutely beautiful, I find that it's a bit too much head movement for general PC viewing, plus also, I'd prefer the extra couple of inches more than the 13.5" screen height, so I was considering returning it for this Alienware AW3821DW...will I regret it? Thanks.
I have the G9 49” and this particular monitor and I’m switching back to my Alienware because of the head movement and how large it is
Great video! Want to see more ultra wide monitor review, still dabbling on 16:9 monitor...
Could you please do the LG 38GN950 as well? Liked and subscribed, by the way.
I got one from Amazon warehouse to compare. I didn't feel like paying full price. So if it comes in good enough condition to review, that will be a review.
Can you review the Dell U3821DW for productivity next? Great vid btw.
Great review. I have a AW3821DW and I'm not a pro user, I just want to play some games and maybe watch a few Films. Just how do I go about calibrating my monitor? Just which software/utilities I can use to create a color profile?
I bought the 360hz Alienware and this one after watching ur videos :)
Good review, I would get the G9 but its too big. Use student discount on the alienware to get the price down by 15/20% if you can.
Dell is selling this for 1100 on holiday sales right now just picked one up to replace my 6year old acer predator x34 100hz.
The x34 still works fine I’ll find a second use for it
17:33 Dell DDM doesn't work with GSync modules. I think the GSync modules take over the DDC display data channel.
Hey Bijan, great review. How deep was your desk using this monitor ? Much love!
Nice video! What was the custom color settings?
Hey man, what is the depth of your desk and what do you consider a comfortable position to have your eyes from the screen? With the original stand, you have to count 25cm/10" from the very back to the front of the screen so that space is already 'lost'. :)
You're probably the best newest reviewer out there. Keep up the good work 'homie'.
Waiting for this only. But last question is still in my mind should I go for LG 4k 144hz with This ultrawide or the Alienware 2k 240hz with LG 4k 144hz. If I get a answer from you my confusion will be over. As I am a casual gamer
I would go with an ultrawide and a 16:9. No point of having 2 16:9’s anymore after using this.
@@BijanJamshidi But I will wait and try to get a 2k 240hz and LG34gp950 cause I want both
I like the double monitor bc I use it vertically but if you don’t use it it doesn’t matter. Also from what I’ve been able to tell on COD 240 is a lot smoother than 144 but that’s just me
@@Videous1000 I play games on a 60hz screen of Lg's FHD 60hz monitor And I am satisfied with what I have.
Edge lit local dimming zones are awful, I wish they included a setting to let you disable them.
How can you so heavily recommend the G9 - without ever using or reviewing one personally? It's a completely different monitor. It's significantly larger with a much higher curvature. It has a different aspect ratio, higher resolution but less vertical pixels, less support from games and is a far more demanding on your GPU to run.
Do you have a guide on how to calibrate so that the colors are looking like they should?
Did you wait for the snow outside?! White monitor in white weather, amazing ^_^
Nope! It came at the perfect time and we took that opportunity 😎
as someone whose playtime lies 75% in overwatch, should I ever consider an ultrawide over my 1440p 27inch
If you're competitive, na. If you're not, then if you're looking for an ultrawide, sure.
I know alot of people say Overwatch doesn't support ultrawide but I have always had it run flawless for me. On my 34in Swift and now on the 38in AW
Wish they would revamp this size monitor with a fresh new update
The monitor itself is pretty bland? I wouldnt say that, dude. It's one of the most beautiful designs in monitor market.
