Just putting it out there so people interested in getting a 1600p ultrawide aren't doing it for a sharper image than their existing 1440p 34" ultrawides and 49" super ultrawides, given that 38" is the only available size for this resolution atm. If someone where to make a 34" 21:9 3840 x 1600 (which is what I really want) or the equivalent 32:9 49", then that would be a very noticeable increase in PPI. Obviously the benefit is getting the same PPI as a 34" 3440 × 1440 (and 49" 32:9 1440p) with a 38" screen, but it isn't at all sharper.
Thanks for pointing this out! I've been using a 27" 1440p monitor and looking to go larger, but I don't want to reduce ppi as it has always slightly bothered me that I can make out the pixels in text on the 27". It seems like I won't be able to go larger and have a reduced ppi unless I go to a 4k resolution.

I can't believe people are putting so much focus on the lighting behind the monitors now 😀 I'd definitely spend all the money on the screen tech instead of the aesthetics
Thanks for the great review. Nice new more easy approach. And at this point I do agree with your title. Absolute beast of a monitor for anyone, doing just about anything. Everything from AAA gaming to non-professional esports to high end photo editing is an absolute banger of an experience at this size, resolution and IQ. 34" UW's and even the G9 just always felt too restricting vertically for me. I've been through 5 monitors in a year (AOC CU34G2X, MSI MAG251RX, Samsung G9, LG 27GN950). All great monitors. But this takes the cake for combining all the best things from those to one neat well rounded package. This one is surely a keeper. For now.
I got this monitor a week ago and I use the LG software to control it without issue. This monitor is absolutely awesome. I don't even understand the low contrast rating as the image is deep and almost OLED like, just with minor IPS glow.
No the image is not OLED like. It takes the absolute best VA based TVs with Quantom Dots and Mini LED backlighting to get even close to OLED territory. No IPS/VA monitor is even close. However OLED is not really suited to be used all the time for PC usage, especially not for 8-12 hours daily in static content and you will see brightness adjustments along the way.
Yes, it is totally off and inaccurate information! According to LG's spec, the screen vertical measurement should be 15.5". The 21.7" measurement he is referring to is LG's shipping box dimension.
Damn everytime i watch one of your videos, i remember why i instantly subscribed when i watched your channel the first time. Such a high production quality and opinions pretty similar so a normal consumer or competitive fps player. Love it
Another great review. I'm a G-Sync module "die hard" but your point about the fan noise and other issues is well taken. As always, I'll mention that it's worth factoring into your decision-making the fact that these LG's only have a 1 year warranty and dead/bright pixel return policy compared to Dell's (AW models) much better 3 year warranty and 0 bright pixel guarantee. Also, I'm glad you told it like it is about VA panels. I still don't get the craze around the G9s.
That's 1 thing I don't like about LG. I like their features more but definitely not their warranty. However whoever releases the first 1600p 38+ inch nano-ips 240Hz monitor, I'm selling this and going for that. And I don't think it'll be long before we get those. Edit: Or OLED. I would LOVE an oled ultrawide.
This summer I bought LG 34GN850-B an luckily found 1 dead pixel within14 days so I returned it. Just few minutes ago I ordered AW3821DW for 999€ I'm now happy I returned LG because in June the cost was 869€ so for 130€ and half year waiting I was able to get much better monitor. I hope it will be good.
@@BijanJamshidi Are you gonna switch to the new Alienware 34" QD-OLED? I have the IPS 34" thinking of going for the 38". the 34" is vertically too small imo.

A lot of people who think their Gsync Module has failed are finding if they pull out the power cord for a bit and let it clear it will work again. I would say it is mainly a software issue that an update will fix.
I found ur channle from looking for reviews of the AW2721D and rly like your content since. Your probably the only tech channle i watch every vid when it comes out. Keep up the amazing work! :)
Stoked to finally see this review. I picked up the Gsync version coming up on a year ago and love it every time I use it. I think if you get the software you can control the color of the rbg ring but I am not 100% on that. Enjoy!
I love how when you say "for those times when 16:9 isn't wide enough" you show Old School RuneScape gameplay, a game a lot of people play competitively in 4:3 fixed mode because it's optimal
Interesting video and you seem educated in this field. I don't think calling this one "the best" over the Alienware purely based on speculation makes any sense though. The Alienware is the same panel but with better features, far better styling, a WAY better stand with full tilt and swivel, fully customizable RGB, a completely silent fan (I've never heard mine once in the last 6 months of ownership), AND it goes on sale for significantly cheaper than the LG. Add in the Alienware factory warranty and it's really, absolutely, the better choice.
@@bretts7037 That's controversial. I wouldn't call his opinions and perspective "biased information. Besides, he didn't call this one "the best" based on "speculation". He stated everything he thinks to be superior on this one: the Black EQ, Color Vibrance, software OSD and other color options on the OSD.
i ended up buying the dell s2721dgf mainly because all other 1440p monitos i wanted arent available on my region yet, i have to say the colors are amazing , watching the older display i had makes you feel you are colorblind compared to the nano ips display dell is having. thankfully almost no backlight bleed on my unite it has some very low amount in the bottom left corner but its not noticeable and wont ruin my experience while gaming/media consumption.
As someone who has had the original x34 predator for 5 years now if I were to do it all over again but starting with today's hardware would go with OLED. Looks like LG isn't releasing until next year but would just run OLED with UW resolution for some games then default back to 16:9 as necessary.
you are right, the extra inch is very important if you also using this monitor for productivity. I just can't stand the narrow height of 34 and 49 UW monitor. Very happy with this monitor!
I have the smaller 34GN850 and by far its the best and the worst monitor I have ever owned. On my 3rd panel with a pixel defect in the exact same spot and got tired of returns that I decided to keep it. It has PiP though and the LG Onscreen control app works great as well, no issues.
I got this monitor based on your review and what a difference it is even when compared to my lg cx48, yes image quality is slightly better on the lg cx oled specially with HDR but with this monitor most games I used to play that gave me motion sickness has given me no issues and I notice I can play for longer hours also not have to worry about burn in. so far no dead pixels or any issues with using the software on the monitor I bought. if you got the cash and a good gpu this is well worth it.
the 49" Odyssey gave me headaches and the colors looked like garbage coming from an IPS panel. returned it and got the Alienware 38" Ultrawide and LOVE IT! Was looking at the LG first but every single LG TV my family, friends and co-workers bout ALL broke right after the warranty expired. literally 7 people I know had to buy new TVs again. Never get LG. Get the Alienware.
@@kanseidorito5287 nope. Fuck the odyssey. Looked like trash coming from IPS. when you use the advertised 240hz it locks the settings! Get a 38 nano IPS. you'll be much happier. Every time I go to microcenter I see a used 49" on the rack for 800 that someone else returned.
I prefer the new format to your monitor reviews, I guess the other format may be more suited to people who are actually thinking of buying the product that you are reviewing, but you should also consider that a lot of people may be watching the video for entertainment purposes, also what do you use the eye tracker for?
I agree! I'm trying to get better with each video for entertainment AND information without it being too information heavy that it'll lose the viewer. And that's basically it, it's an eyetracker and so far I only use it in star citizen.
My biggest issue is the cost for this one. I would still go with the 34GN850 if you can find one. I got one for 900$ and it's a great monitor I would recommend it to almost anyone, unless price isn't an issue.
@@DiagnosedCA This ^^^ I have it also and it is the exact same monitor as the gn850. If you go into the service menu on these monitors the 83A is labeled clear as day as the 34gn850 as the model number. It is an amazing monitor no doubt. I can never go back to 16:9 for any games now. Only thing that sucks is that i had to play the lg panel lottery and it took three times until I got one with no stuck pixels or dead pixels and good color uniformity. But for $799.99 us dollars it's a bit pricey especially just for just a computer monitor. But you get an amazing monitor to game and do daily task on.

i am using the new huawei mateview GT 34 inch ultrawide. Its on the budget monitor category as its pretty affordable. I use it because it is a 165hz panel, 4000:1 contrast ratio and it has a 10 bit display panel. To use the 10 bit colors, got to change refresh rate back to 144hz though. For the price i pay, its a steal. Colors are good as well because its a VA with 4000:1 contrast ratio.

Have you done any kind of "benchmark" to compare FPS impact in games? Everyone seem to only display Ultra-settings benchmarks - but for competitive games and still wanting eye candy (like PUBG casual or Battlefield) one would lower settings to see enemies easier and have more FPS - and for these situations very few ever post any benchmarks comparing different resolutions.
Does the monitor arm actually have a USB hub in it's base? looks that way in the video. Also, it seem it is out of stock on Amazon, what was it's price when it's in? And does anyone have an equally good alternative for a 34-38" UW? It seem the brand does not sell in Norway.
Hey man, I've seen about 15 of your videos. I'm currently in the market for a 32/34 inch monitor and I've got some constructive criticism, lol I've found that I've always been left with many questions when I watch your videos, and as someone whose trying to get answers it seems like watching some of the videos leaves me more confused. Everyone congratulates you on video quality and how good the review is and such - and while this is all true, I feel like you leave out a lot of important information that will help us identify your content and decide whether it's good for us, as consumers, or not. Someone of the things I feel people would want to know as well as me are - What kind of PC are you using/ video card? - You don't seem to address that on these huge monitors that require powerful GPU's to run What settings do you game on? - this matters because for a lot of us this will dictate what monitor we can or can't use. CPU, GPU, overall settings are very important Why do you only test the monitor on valorant ? - is it because that game has very low system resource usage? - What about games like COD and battlefield, games that have a lot going on all at once... How come you never talk about the ghosting on the monitors when you're moving around rapidly? What does the text look like, window edges, is there motion blurr when you move them, do they run hot, how's the power consumption etc etc. P.S. A lot of games have built in settings to help you with brightness/dark areas/scenes in game - Nvidia has color profiles that make all of the onboard monitor color adjustment presents useless. I think most people use that... You seem to spend a lot of time on that and honestly I think it's wasted.... it also makes your overall gaming experience bad... no one wants to play with an ashy, grayed out, blurred screen for the same of spotting someone in a corner. If you haven't checked yet, go check out the Nvidia present color profiles - assuming you've got an nvidia card.... They are amazing. Anywho - I'm only pointing these things out because I want to help you deliver more relevant information to us, I am hoping you make it big and I think delivering more relevant information is more important than pointing out a lot of things that can be avoided through third party software or stuff like.. build in speaker talk.... every one is on headphones! GG's!
One small thing that I realise probably does not matter for alot of people is that the Alienware has an internal power supply. So you avoid that amazingly annoying external power brick.
Love the specs of this beast. In Germany it right now (07.2022) at about 990€. But it was at just unter 900€ about a month ago. I just wait if it will drop again and probably buy this thing. Gotte watch out for a new GPU tough, GTX 1080 would be too slow. Thanks for the great Video, keep up the good work 👍
I went for the MSI 343CQR (mainly for budget reasons) but do wish I'd stumped up for the 38GN950. The pixel density on the 343CQR just isn't what I'm used to, and I'm upgrading from an old 28 inch 4K panel and it's just a very visible jump. I'll sit with it for now and I'm sure I'll adjust.

Excellent review! So hard to find in depth monitor reviews. I was shopping for this and similar 38inch monitors and went with the Acer X38P (g sync, not g sync ultimate version). Just curious why it (Predator X38p) wasn't mentioned. Availability is weird but was able to snipe one on Ebay. It's validated fully G sync supported 1 -175hz. both structures are good, i prefer this relaxed style but either way i'll still watch..ty
I can't believe people are putting so much focus on the lighting behind the monitors now 😀 I'd definitely spend all the money on the screen tech instead of the aesthetics
Nice intro.....but why do I suddenly have to think about the Nova Tank. 😉
For now.
Exactly, for now. I can’t wait for a mini led version or OLED model. I’m drooling just thinking about it!
Oh and can’t forget 240Hz
Which should I get
I got this monitor a week ago and I use the LG software to control it without issue.
Love your reviews, very informative. But are you sure that's 21.7" vertical screen size? Seems more like 21.7" from top of the screen to the table
Just few minutes ago I ordered AW3821DW for 999€
I'm now happy I returned LG because in June the cost was 869€ so for 130€ and half year waiting I was able to get much better monitor.
I hope it will be good.
@@BijanJamshidi Are you gonna switch to the new Alienware 34" QD-OLED? I have the IPS 34" thinking of going for the 38". the 34" is vertically too small imo.
with my reseller, I have zero pixel warranty and extendy 2 years warranty, so I have 4 years ! Perfect
one of the better channels for monitor reviews. Your camera captures the sharpness of the image while moving, rather not sharpness: D
Quality video ! I watched some of your previous review videos before buying my LG monitors. Forgot to subscribe at the time but you recently started showing up on my feed again and I'm glad for that.
7:16 That's the creativity! I applaud you 👏👏
That transition when talking about viewing angles GODDAMN
Love your reviews - detailed, gorgeous, as always. /win
But - are you SURE about that 21.7" height measurement?
A lot of people who think their Gsync Module has failed are finding if they pull out the power cord for a bit and let it clear it will work again. I would say it is mainly a software issue that an update will fix.
I found ur channle from looking for reviews of the AW2721D and rly like your content since. Your probably the only tech channle i watch every vid when it comes out. Keep up the amazing work! :)
That viewing angle effect was brilliant!
Stoked to finally see this review. I picked up the Gsync version coming up on a year ago and love it every time I use it. I think if you get the software you can control the color of the rbg ring but I am not 100% on that. Enjoy!
the height is actually 15.5 in without stand which is how you demonstrated.
My man Plays SC = Star Citizen o7
i see you have the velcro for the Tobii nice
I just picked up a new Alienware desktop and this LCD. Can't wait till everything arrives!
Someone's butt hurt 😂
@@asef698 The only thing that hurts is watching a review with biased information, convincing people to spend even more money on an inferior product :P
Nano IPS is just soooo good. Not everyone will like it but I looooove it
@@BijanJamshidi i love it so much, im not going back.
As someone who has had the original x34 predator for 5 years now if I were to do it all over again but starting with today's hardware would go with OLED. Looks like LG isn't releasing until next year but would just run OLED with UW resolution for some games then default back to 16:9 as necessary.
Yes your new structure is brilliant
you are right, the extra inch is very important if you also using this monitor for productivity.
I agree with everything you said.
I'm in the same boat (hehe). I got this from Costco for $1199.. now that's slick!
do many games support this resolution..i heard 34 is better in terms of supported games
You showcased a clip from Squad. THUMBS UP!
Has LG discontinued the model? I can’t find it anywhere. I also don’t want to deal with the gsync chip.
I have one for sale in the UK bro
U deserved my like after that viewing angle transition damn
"Sometimes an extra inch is all you need" 😁
In my case it may take 2 or 3, but I digress. 😕
🤣
Love that there's a bit of OSRS in here 🤣
Only the best game in the world
the 49" Odyssey gave me headaches and the colors looked like garbage coming from an IPS panel. returned it and got the Alienware 38" Ultrawide and LOVE IT! Was looking at the LG first but every single LG TV my family, friends and co-workers bout ALL broke right after the warranty expired. literally 7 people I know had to buy new TVs again. Never get LG. Get the Alienware.
Your so full of shit
@@kanseidorito5287 nope. Fuck the odyssey. Looked like trash coming from IPS. when you use the advertised 240hz it locks the settings! Get a 38 nano IPS. you'll be much happier. Every time I go to microcenter I see a used 49" on the rack for 800 that someone else returned.
Got the new Samsung Odyssey neo G9 and it is a blast of a monitor 👌🏻
Good review by the way ☺️👍🏻
I prefer the new format to your monitor reviews, I guess the other format may be more suited to people who are actually thinking of buying the product that you are reviewing, but you should also consider that a lot of people may be watching the video for entertainment purposes, also what do you use the eye tracker for?
I agree. The 34 inch model is a much better bang for buck. Same monitor with a tiny bit less resolution and size.
83A version if you wanna save a little more. I have it and it's been fantastic. $900 CAD for me
@@DiagnosedCA This ^^^ I have it also and it is the exact same monitor as the gn850.
I have bought this one yesterday at 800€ HAHAHAAH the price is down compared to 1500€ 8 month ago !! I m luck and clever, I have waited for -700€
@@kolysion164 At this point you should have gone with the QD OLED from Alienware mr. clever.
nice review
Great review as always. Thank you very much. I'll be sticking w/ the LG 32GP850. Not quite sold on Ultrawide. :)
Soooo, which one you suggest to be the best for gaming? LG 38GN950 or Alienware AW3821DW? I ask because I am going to purchase an 21:9 monitor for gaming! Thanks in advance!
The lg is levels even in 2024 bro
Would you still choose this over the new g9 oled 49in or the 34in oled from dell
If u are not gonna use these oled panels as smarttv they will burn out in a half year-year, especially u will notice it in gaming, for example where hp bar is all the time
Could you please add the link for the white stand you are using)?
Hello, could you tell me what is the osd option named for color vibrance for this 38GN950? I'm about to buy the LG 38WN95CP-W, which is the refresh of the similar LG 38WN95C-W, and i'm trying to see if it has this color vibrance feature but it's not named this way in either manual.
Thank you.
i am using the new huawei mateview GT 34 inch ultrawide.
I liked this style a lot.
The software has never given me any problems..might be an isolated issue. Great review as always, looking forward to the Neo G9 review to see if this conclusion sticks compared to the older G9.
Great Reviews of the LG 38", still with the 34" atm and hope for a 40" 21:9 to upgrade. Btw, has someone taken notice about the Innocn 21:9 40" monitor, low budget but kinda interesting.
The prices on the LG, dell, and Alienware are insane, 1600$ for a monitor. I just ordered the innocn 40 inch, The reviews are pretty good. 450$ with coupon code from amazon. If it sucks I will return it.
@@jordancomstock8979 worth a try, but the current previews of the innocn i dont trust, those who tested them are not trustworthy ......Just my opinion. Tell me what you think when recived.
I appreciate the comparison vs the Alienware, but if G-Sync failure is a concern, shouldn't warranty be mentioned? AW with 3 years vs LG with 1 year?
the business model 38GN95B-B has a 3 year warranty, and also includes MaxxAudio for the headphone jack and also with the ultra gear logo on the back instead of the LG logo
Hey Bijan, first great review!
i bought this beast for myself to christmast and im looking for the perfect icc profile + settings.
As you mentioned, the colours on this panel are breathtaking.
But i want to squeeze it, so i get what i paid for.^^
Would you be so kind and share your personal settings for the best colours?
Also, did you turn HDR in Windows On/Off?
Thanks in Advance and keep up!
would appreciate your help so much🙏🙏🙏
I upvoted as soon as you showed OSRS :P
Carrack!
Best review all round still my no1 choice of monitor in 2024
Looks like relationship with LG has been mended 😂 I like the new shot angles and more natural light!
Nope. This one I bought with my money at Costco in March. The 'new' marketing team said they'll be more clear in the beginning, but we'll see...
And thank you! :)
I'll tell u hands down aurous fi27q first model has the absolute sharpest and best color I have ever seen on a monitor, the saturation and colors rival my lg oled it's so stunning
Is there anything new on the market that tops these 38's? I don't want to drop $1400 on an old model thats about to get upgraded
It's still the best trust mec2024 nothing like it all round best
Video was great as usual. Keep it up
8:35 AMD FreeSync™ Premium and Premium Pro have LFC (Low Framerate Compensation) and G-Sync Compatible certification requires LFC. But LFC works differently with FreeSync monitors than with G-Sync monitors.
RUclips is so damned weird. I'm subbed but haven't seen a video from you in 4 months.
bro ive been looking at the new alienware monitor since it was released and 100% was sold on it.
fact is though there are many people complaining about burn in after 3 months.
also scratches on the screen due to foam packaging.
not to mention the refreshing pixel thing that just reduces the life of the panel.
thats when i started looking at 3840x1600 monitors and came up with the predater and then the lg gsync model which is the GL950G 100% getting
7:17 deserved a like and subscribed 😀
Have you done any kind of "benchmark" to compare FPS impact in games? Everyone seem to only display Ultra-settings benchmarks - but for competitive games and still wanting eye candy (like PUBG casual or Battlefield) one would lower settings to see enemies easier and have more FPS - and for these situations very few ever post any benchmarks comparing different resolutions.
What are the 2 itx cases you have in this video? Great review btw. Love your content!
Ncase M1 and NR200
I love your reviews man! Hope you get more subs!
Does the monitor arm actually have a USB hub in it's base? looks that way in the video. Also, it seem it is out of stock on Amazon, what was it's price when it's in? And does anyone have an equally good alternative for a 34-38" UW? It seem the brand does not sell in Norway.
Hey man,
I've seen about 15 of your videos. I'm currently in the market for a 32/34 inch monitor and I've got some constructive criticism, lol
I've found that I've always been left with many questions when I watch your videos, and as someone whose trying to get answers it seems like watching some of the videos leaves me more confused.
Everyone congratulates you on video quality and how good the review is and such - and while this is all true, I feel like you leave out a lot of important information that will help us identify your content and decide whether it's good for us, as consumers, or not.
Someone of the things I feel people would want to know as well as me are -
What kind of PC are you using/ video card? - You don't seem to address that on these huge monitors that require powerful GPU's to run
What settings do you game on? - this matters because for a lot of us this will dictate what monitor we can or can't use. CPU, GPU, overall settings are very important
Why do you only test the monitor on valorant ?
GG's!
I like this style of review more
Hello Bijan, Great review, May I know the monitor arm model that you are currently using? Thanks
just noticed it in the description amzn.to/3mfxPif
One small thing that I realise probably does not matter for alot of people is that the Alienware has an internal power supply. So you avoid that amazingly annoying external power brick.
I’m lucky enough to own one. It is indeed a beast.
What do you have under monitor mounted? Is this camera?
what's the space game being played? And that little bar device thing attached to the bottom of the LG?
Star Citizen
Love the specs of this beast. In Germany it right now (07.2022) at about 990€. But it was at just unter 900€ about a month ago. I just wait if it will drop again and probably buy this thing. Gotte watch out for a new GPU tough, GTX 1080 would be too slow.
Thanks for the great Video, keep up the good work 👍
Edit: The Alienware right now is actually about 300€ more expensiv than the LG. So it an easy choice betweet those two.
Very good video. I would like to get one but I can’t find one and it’s so expensive. I have a 34 inch and I would like to upgrade one day and I do agree about the LG. By the way I like how you did the viewing angles. That was very original and appreciated.
Did a slayer task of blue dragons at Vorkath and haven't played since.
Any hopes of getting a review on the AORUS FI27Q-X? as a KD25F owner I've had my eyes on it for a while but I've held myself back from buying.
Hard to get one. I don't want to get one from newegg but it's still on my list.
Understandable, think I've seen them available only a small handful of times so far.
Some times an extra inch is all you need...!!?? Hahahahaha...!!! I can't stop laughing..!!!
Thank you, thank you and thank you... This was actually a great review..!! Specially because you shared the measurements (with graphics even) of that actual screen size. I think many reviewers skip that. (A suggestion though, next time include metric too, literally 95% of the world does)
Anyway... Great video....!!!
Ps Does you monitor arm has USB? What model is it?
Excellent review! So hard to find in depth monitor reviews. I was shopping for this and similar 38inch monitors and went with the Acer X38P (g sync, not g sync ultimate version). Just curious why it (Predator X38p) wasn't mentioned. Availability is weird but was able to snipe one on Ebay. It's validated fully G sync supported 1 -175hz. Not talking about the s version that comes with the dreaded g sync module. Either way thank you for your amazing channel and work.
I just bought my second 32" g7 in a row it is incredible i accidently cracked my first on the very edge on left side haha still works tho so going to make it a vertical second monitor and crop the display to chop off 2" of the display on the end thats cracked and make it so i dont have to be reminded of my f up when i use it
What Monitor stand are you using on that LG?
is this the same size in terms of physcial height as a 27inch 21:9 ?
