I would absolutely love for you to do a review of this new Dell U4025QW! When I saw you were using it in your last video, I started checking your channel every day to see this review.
I've been using the new Dell U4025QW for a few months and it's easily the best monitor I've ever used. I do a lot of video/photo editing and occasional gaming, and the colors and refresh rate are perfect for my needs. My 42" LG C2 was amazing for gaming, but I will never go back to an OLED for productivity.
Isn't the U4025QW only 60Hz though? I'm interested in these 38-40" monitor more focused on productivity, but they seem fine with leaving them at 60Hz, and I can't seem to handle anything lower than 85Hz even on desktop work now.
Hi, I read your post which I have read numerous times could be one of the best monitors ever made. Do you use a Mac at all ? From a capability point of view *?*
I find it interesting that there seems to be a focus on oled being better here. The vast majority of productivity use-cases (e.g. programming / WFH) would result in OLED burn-in at a faster rate than only using an oled for gaming/watching media. So I find it a bit unusual that a video for productivity monitors is focusing on encouraging going down the oled route when the current state of oled is not suitable for productivity, unless one wants to buy a new monitor after several months. Seriously, working a 9-5 on an oled monitor is not a smart idea until burn-in is significantly improved.
OLED burn in 2024 is virtually a problem of the past! If you're concerned about it so much, try checking burn-in prevention techniques used in modern OLED monitors/TVs.
Oled burn in is kind of a thing of the past. 2019 was a big leep forward for oleds and they've continued to get better. I can leave my screens on for a very long time (and I do) and have absolutely no issues. Prior to 2019, I had one that definitely suffered from burn-in and LG sent a repair guy to replace the panel. In fact, that's all he did all day. He drove around and replaced panels from burn-in issues. What a crazy job. Lol.

In my opinion the perfect monitor would have the following specs: 49 inch diagonal, 32:9, 4K, 240Hz, MiniLED, 1800R curve, flat stand. The monitor that fits most of those specs is the Samsung Odyssey G9 57 inch monitor. But sadly it is way too big, and therefore too tightly curved...
For anyone interested in the Samsung Odyssey G9 57”, it’s currently $1599 on Amazon which is an insane price considering the list price is still $2499 normally.

Make the review on the DELL 40 inch please haha!!!! Been waiting for an in-depth review for ages! If you could feature Windows experience alongside Mac that would be amazing! Too much Mac only reviews.
With latest macOS releases you can't adjust the scale as easily as windows, but you can adjust _most_ of it now, including icon size on desktop (which affects more than just the icons), font size for most things, etc. Just takes more clicks. They really need to add this!
A correction here: macOS can in fact scale (as you put it "independant of the resolution"). Apple just - for whatever reason - describes its scaling in resolution to give you a sense what to expect. Actually it uses the native resolution of the panel. Actually, it scaled far better for years than Windows. But Windows cought up. (I am a Mac user just recently)

Been using the 57" Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo for about a month based upon your recommendation in this video (along with months and months of research)! Verdict.... I LOVE IT! I mean it is a dream. Exactly what I was looking for. The size is perfect for what I do. I don't game but productivity is amazing. I use both PC and Mac on it. Thank you for your videos. They were a great great help in making a decision.
Please review the Dell U40245QW. I have the 34" 2021 3440x1440p model and for a long time I was saying that this would be the perfect monitor if it had a higher than 60hz refresh rate. Now Dell has updated both the 34 and 40 inch one and I am also curious how much different the IPS Black technology is as opposed to regular 1000:1 IPS. I am considering upgrading to the new 34" or the 40" one, though, the latter comes with a mandatory, very expensive GPU as well :P
I prefer 2 monitors since i connect to Citrix for office work. So Citrix can occupy one monitor in full-screen mode, and allow me the do Alt+Tab to switch between apps within my office citrix session.
Oh man. That dell 40” 5K2K with KVM sounds perfect. I constantly switch between three machines. Gaming PC, work computer and my project/general use laptop. Currently have a 144Hz 32” 4K monitor. At the office I have a 49” 5Kx1440. Home monitor is better for the height (more rows of code), but the width the office one has is simply amazing for productivity, but is a bit too wide. So that 40” 5K2K would be the best of both!
Hi, I am very interested in buying the Samsung Odyssey G9 (2024) 49-inch curved monitor but my PC has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card. I read on some websites that this GPU was capable of running the monitor well, but I wanted to ask you if this is true or not. Thank you for the video!
What i miss in all these reviews. What if you buy the samsung 57 inch with high resolution and you work or home pc does not support the highest resolution then what? Will u have black bars all around or will you have a lower resolution but still full screen. My work has the latest microsoft laptop but my home pc is a HP G2 mini with intel 530 graphics.
yeah there's a few ways this can go. Get the full resolution but lower refresh rate like 60hz / 120hz. Get lower resolution at higher refresh rates. Low resolution & low refresh rates It just totally depends on what your graphics card can drive
Bought a Philips 40" 4K 60Hz in 2016, best money spent on any of my computer gear (and the 40" were half the price of the 28" 4K panels back then) - still my main screen, only downside is looking to the corners needs a refocus of the eyes...
OLEDs WILL degrade over time. It isn't a matter of if, but when. If you baby it by turning the screen off while away, or keeping as many static images away from it as possible, you should be able to get a few solid years out of it. Owning an OLED is being on a timer, but during the honeymoon phase, your experience should generally be superior in most ways to any other panel type (other than your constant worrying about burn in.)
I've owned oleds for a few years now. TVs, monitors, for games, TV, Mac and windows, and not once have I suffered burn in. Yes there are cases where I've seen people have been affected, but it's definitely the minority 👍🏼 crack on and enjoy your monitor. Anti burn in tech is getting better and better every year, so every year it's even less of an issue
A thing to note about "anti burn in tech" is that it works by uniformly burning in the pixels to prevent image retention. This inevitably means that your max brightness will dim over time, but it shouldn't be noticeable for a long time, given the insane contrast OLEDs provide.
I run a Samsung QD Oled Samsung G8 Monitor I've had it almost for a year. I use solidworks nearly 8 hours a day so lots of icons and static interface on the screen almost all day. No signs of burn it yet. You can see burn in protection shifting everything slightly every couple of minutes, doesn't bother me at all. Every couple of days when I turn it off at the end of the day it pops up a message, that's it running a screen refresh that runs for about 20 minutes. Honestly it's not an issue. The Oled displays are so clear and so vibrant it's worth. Everything from solidworks, to outlooks, to extended gaming sessions in cyberpunk looks absolutely stunning.
Hi! You mention that the 49 inch g9 has USB-C connectivity for macbooks, but in your review video of it a couple of months ago you say it doesnt. Could you please clarify which one of the two it is :)?
Haha! I was confused too - it seems there is a newer model that has USB-C, but it also didn't have the Tizen interface - I need to look into it more but I believe there are currently 2 versions that you can buy. The one I reviewed, and one that we bought in recently for another video which had the extra USB-C connection.
The 57” Samsung is my dream monitor. But I heard people are experiencing issues with that particular monitor. So I am not willing to spend $3k just to deal with issues
just returned my 3rd one they all have had several pixels out and two died within 4 days power up but no display I just got an Ark and its got lines so Im officially donw w Samsung just dont know what to do now
@3:41 So I have the SAMSUNG 49-Inch Odyssey G9 Series DQHD 1000R Curved, and I notice the large pixels on screen mentioned here. Would the OLED version of this monitor fix that problem OR do I need to go with a 5120x2160 monitor to gain that vertical resolution? My main use is Motion Graphics, 3d Animation full-time freelance, and gaming might be 25 percent of the use. Thanks @PeteMatheson
Amazing I've been wanting a screen for a PC again. Wanted a nice one. This video is everything I was looking forward to. Thank you. :) you should do a tech building group. I be in
Once you have gone to a true 8K monitor at 65" there just isn't anything else that can compare for productivity. 4 x 32" 4K monitors without bezels is impossible to beat. Eagerly awaiting Pete's review of the QN900 :) It is basically a flat glossy version of the Neo G9 57" with twice the number of pixels. No, it isn't perfect (no monitor / TV is), but it made me return both the Neo G9 57" and the Asus PG32UCDM when looking for the best one monitor setup. YMMV of course.
HI Pete, just subscribed your channel. Just bought the new MacBook Pro for my photo and video editing hobbies and also a PC laptop for my data analytics work. I still couldn't decide what monitor to get for both to use with a KVM. Any recommendation?
The curve numerical (1000R, 1500R) is actually the radius of the curvature. essentialy, the monitor is an arc that is trimmed from a circle with that particular radius. From my guess, 1000R means a radius of 1000millimeters,
As I've seen you testing so many monitors, may I ask which monitor arm company or model you would recommend, especially for larger or heavier screens? I tried out Onkron and Forging Mount, both couldn't handle my Odyssey G7 Neo :(
Nice reviews, do you also have a video where you talk about / test a multiple monitor setup with one (or more) monitors in landscape and one (or more) in portrait?
I am really confused between IPS avs OLED exclusively for productivity. I heard OLED text is not clear and has burn in issues but these monitors have the resolution and aspect ratio I am looking for, 21:9 45". IPS monitor have very few (if any) options for large displays. I will exclusively use these monitors for trading and coding no gaming at all.
Built in Speakers: don't these take the job from a laptop's speakers for a lot of users? If you have THE most dialed desk and speaker setup, or happen to be on ear/headphones, then sure, that's better. But no-one seems to want to talk about a tier system of sound. Say starting at a phone, then a cheap bleutooth speaker or a bad laptop, etc. I'm on a laptop now, and about to get my first standalone monitor since an SVGA 14" tubular model decades ago. Built in speakers seem like a big deal to me 😀
Saw you’re review on the 57” neo G9. Would love to get your take on a deal Costco is running on a different version of the G9 which is currently $749.99 compared to the neo G9 which is $1,599.99. I need it for productivity.
I bought the MSI 40" ultrawide - it is not curved. you are so correct. its just too big to be on a desktop - if it were curved i'd keep it. its going back.
My current setup is a 34" main monitor in the middle then two 27" screens flanking both sides. I like the setup because the pixel density is the same across all screens and the portrait screens are great for browsing, reading ebooks, side tasks and shopping.
Totally agree for USB-C for Macs. While HDMI to USB-C adapters do work for my ultrawides, the convenience of USB-PD for a single cable providing power, display, and peripherals (if it has a Hub/KVM).
I’ve been torn for months. I’ve tried really hard to make one of the qdoled options work for me. Everything from a 32”, to a 34” ultrawide, to a 55” TV. Recently I’ve been using the Dell 40 and it feels like the right size and aspect ratio, but it’s so expensive for what features I’m actually using. For the same price I can get the 57” Samsung which rtings suggests is better in every way after calibration. Samsung is supposed to announce some new monitors in 2 weeks, but that’s past my return deadline for the Dell. Would feel bad if a 57” QD oled gets announced and I’m stuck with the Dell. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great monitor, just I’ve had my eye on upgrading my 34” qd oled with something bigger that supports 4k.
@@PeteMatheson Right? The Dell seems fantastic, but it’s been really hard to choose between the it and the 57”. Do you run both on different set ups? Or did you replace the Samsung with the Dell?
Hi Pete. I really enjoyed this video but I’m still struggling to understand the concept of MacOS scaling and how much consideration I should place on it when selecting a productivity monitor for my Mac. Do you have any plans to produce a video discussing this issue in more detail? I’ve found current RUclips content on the topic very vague & I really like the way your videos explain things in lay-man’s terms. I’m sure there are many viewers that’d benefit from your explanation, particularly given the highly expected new MacMini release in October.
I am thinking about buying an OLED 2024 model from either Samsung, LG or MSI. I like how the OLED monitors look. I would hardly be doing any gaming on it, just productivity for work. Occasional youtube. Is that a mistake buying an OLED for just working not gaming?
Hey @PeteMatheson, great content! I'm planning to buy an ultrawide monitor, and I'm really drawn to the sleek design of the Samsung 49'' Odyssey, probably opting for the 1800R version instead of the 1000R. However, I want to make sure this purchase fits my needs, so I have a question for you. I believe you've connected two computers to the same monitor before, but is there a way to easily switch between them using keyboard shortcuts or something like a Stream Deck? Ideally, I'd like to set up three buttons: one to switch the entire screen to my personal computer, another to switch the entire screen to my work computer, and a third button to split the monitor with my personal computer on the left and my work computer on the right. Is this possible, or would I need to manually use the monitor's menu to switch inputs or set up the split-screen view? Thanks in advance!
HDMI 2.1 situation faked me when I bought a monitor with 165 htz refresh but was limited to 144 htz. _Only DP support higher refresh rate of 165 + right now._
So what am looking for ultra wide 40” to 54” but I want thunderbolt 4 for my Mac book M3 Pro, and I also need support for windows. What monitor would you recommend? Also planning using the caldigit TS4
@@PeteMatheson for the Dell is it worth loosing the extra 9” I’d get with say a G9 or the LG? I mean if there is something better than the Dell in a 49” I’d spend more $$$. I wonder if the higher resolution makes and the KVM hub make up for the 9” I would be loosing?
That’s the question we’ve all asked ourselves! I’ve decided to keep the G9 as my main screen and my editor is using the Dell now. I think you could buy either though and be very happy with the purchase

How does a Mac not scale right? I have a Macbook and an iPad Pro and never had any issues with scaling when connected to a 4k 32inch screen. Is that with specific screen sizes and resolutions? And the scaling of some programs in Windows is far from perfect. So my experience is the other way around.

Unfortunately not a single curved ultra wide with 2160p vertical resolution, so replacing my three 4K monitors is out of the question for productivity.
Will monitors adopt TB5 in their ports for the next year since Apple started to put them in their laptops and desktops, and will the Windows market start doing so earlier next year? Should we wait for the TB5 to come in the monitors before buying?

@@Skidamarinkk In my case it won't only empty my wallet but also my pockets, home, pockets of some of my poor but sincere friends. Then I might be able to buy the adapter. Monitor next time in future.
You’re so welcome! Thanks for the comment!
@@PeteMatheson wouldn’t the G9 OLED burn in after long productivity sessions with static elements?
Just got the 57 inch g9. Life changed forever and it's a heck of a conversation piece. 😊

I tell ya, these videos just get better and better.
👏🏼 thanks man!
YES!!! This is the video of been anxiously waiting for!!! Thank you Pete!
🙌🏼 Awesome to hear! haha. Very welcome man :) Hope it helped
Low resolution & low refresh rates
It just totally depends on what your graphics card can drive
@@PeteMatheson thank you! So no black bars? Only lower res and or lower fps....
Bought a Philips 40" 4K 60Hz in 2016, best money spent on any of my computer gear (and the 40" were half the price of the 28" 4K panels back then) - still my main screen, only downside is looking to the corners needs a refocus of the eyes...
You’re talking my language with those ultra wide monitors! But am worried about burn in with the OLEDs. Should I be?
@@PeteMatheson thanks a lot!!
The 57” Samsung is my dream monitor. But I heard people are experiencing issues with that particular monitor. So I am not willing to spend $3k just to deal with issues
just returned my 3rd one they all have had several pixels out and two died within 4 days power up but no display I just got an Ark and its got lines so Im officially donw w Samsung just dont know what to do now
I have not experienced anything bad with it, also managed to get it for 1800 dollars.
What webcam do you have mounted to the top of the display? If you can provide a link, I would like to purchase it.
How do you comfortably use a 65" monitor for productivity?
@@SuperBrownDawg I can't imagine using it to be fair. Too near to my head in my current setup.
HI Pete, just subscribed your channel. Just bought the new MacBook Pro for my photo and video editing hobbies and also a PC laptop for my data analytics work. I still couldn't decide what monitor to get for both to use with a KVM. Any recommendation?
Pete, what camera did you have mounted on the 40" dell for video calls, etc...? Does it have a built-in mic?
Ah yes! It's the Insta360 Link. Have used it since it was launched - brilliant camera, and yes it does, but the mic isn't the best
The curve numerical (1000R, 1500R) is actually the radius of the curvature. essentialy, the monitor is an arc that is trimmed from a circle with that particular radius. From my guess, 1000R means a radius of 1000millimeters,
As I've seen you testing so many monitors,
may I ask which monitor arm company or model you would recommend,
especially for larger or heavier screens?
I tried out Onkron and Forging Mount, both couldn't handle my Odyssey G7 Neo :(

I am really confused between IPS avs OLED exclusively for productivity. I heard OLED text is not clear and has burn in issues but these monitors have the resolution and aspect ratio I am looking for, 21:9 45". IPS monitor have very few (if any) options for large displays. I will exclusively use these monitors for trading and coding no gaming at all.
I am looking for an ultra wide flat monitor for gaming and trading any suggestions ?
Thanks for the video, doest the dell U4025QW model , support 120hz at high resolution 5120 x 2160, so if at high resolution it goes back to 60 hz?
Yep. Full resolution at 120hz 👍🏼
Built in speakers seem like a big deal to me 😀
I'm agreeing with you. Plus when my headphone is not working I want at least here some sound.
Best video I've watched on monitors btw. Very nice, great information. Thanks!
No comment about text clarity and burning in productivity with OLED ?
Haha! Yeah I’m hoping and crossing everything for a 57” OLED, but I feel like that’ll be a next year release … but I reeeeeeally hope I’m wrong!
Hi Pete. I hope to hear from you with a reply soon. Thank you.
I am thinking about buying an OLED 2024 model from either Samsung, LG or MSI. I like how the OLED monitors look. I would hardly be doing any gaming on it, just productivity for work. Occasional youtube. Is that a mistake buying an OLED for just working not gaming?
Yes it will burn in.
