I used to have a setup like this. Spent a lot of time on it too. Lived in a condo and my neighbor gave me bed bugs. Perfect hiding place for the little suckers with all the tight spaces the organization gives. Recently moved but never had the heart to do the same organization. Watching videos like this gives me peace.

You gave me inspiration to build a standing desk of my own.
    1. (Below the desk) The no-show wires (while watching got idea to make wiring inside the thick table itself)
    2. The jack : mostly standing desks have hydraulics and they come way costlier than my budget. So the car jack principle is actually awesome.
    3. (Above the desk) The stands/pipes give good aesthetics and remove clutter on the desk.
Thanks for sharing. It will take time for me to build but surely will share once done.

Haha

  • @monoplectronic2010
    @monoplectronic2010 9 месяцев назад

Brutally thorough and amazingly executed, hats off my man. At the risk of being 'that guy', your speakers look too far apart (hard to tell from video footage), and wayyyy too toed-in (feelin' more confident on this assessment), they look like they're converging halfway between you & your screen. If so, and if you're down for taking the unsolicited advice of someone who designs spendy analog gear, try angling the speakers in so that they point at & converge just behind your ears. Shortcut: when you point your head forward and pan your eyes to look at either speaker, you won't see their inner sides, they're parallel to your gaze. Better yet, try not toe-ing them in at all, or just a smidge, ribbons usually have very wide dispersion. There's no way to know what's ideal, all of this is extremely room- and setup-dependent. That desk is creating hella boundary interference, so imaging is compromised in any scenario, but... with 2 mins of experimenting you might be able to notch your acoustic response up a level.

For speaker mounts you can use cheap monitor arms. Most of them have enough adjustability so the monitor mounting bit can be rotated 90degrees flat so you can place your speaker on top of it. So you don't need to mount speakers with screws from the back like you do with monitors.
Just screw some plywood to the vesa mounts and put the speaker on top of it. Much better than screwing your speaker stands into the desk with solid unadjustable mounts. You can also tilt your speakers to any angle and it holds the angle. It won't collapse or give out unless you really mess up your positioning where you locate the vesa mount.
Then it is easy to add all sorts of connectivity through the speaker arms as well.

Thanks for the tips on how to keep all the cables tidy! Since covid days I have been working from home 90-100% of the time except some outings and rare customer meetings. So I recently purchased nice table top (light colored oak desktop) and powerful electric powered legs. It's been amazing actually as far as the desk itself. I was initially worried about electric powered legs may break down in future, but it comes with a 5 year warranty and it's a popular brand (high ratings) so I gave it a go, and I have been happy ever since. I am now on the hunt for a great monitor arm (in white color as the theme is white colored legs and oak desk top). I am in high tech (software industry) so most of my work is with PC. So electric powered desk that can be raised and lowered easily was a must for me. Now my neck and shoulder pain I used to get when I didn't stand up throughout the day just disappeared. I really want to setup my desk now with a 4G monitor and the desktop (as I don't really need MacBook now...I use smartphone while I travel though I currently use MacBook now), so this cable setup (especially the monitor cable setup part) was quite helpful. Thank you!

But sometimes I do go ahead and do a major organization spree every few years... But still clutter doesn't bother me unless it's not a totally useful clutter! Now if I build a machine then yeah. On the FREDDE, I have a pc, a 3.1 sony sound system, 1 printer, 1 Hyper Quadcast mic and elgato low profile stand, few external hard disk, all kept in the best way possible with cables hidden. I have so many cables to get sorted out soon, I got a Furman power filter just recently, now I have to re-route all the cables, one final time. It's probably going to take several hours, no joke. Whilst I like what you’ve aimed for, and can see your goal clearly realised, it’s undone by basically ‘cutting your nose off to spite your face’.
This is most easily seen where you’ve compromised on i/o to the dock (none of the i/o from the dock being available on the desk) and as it’s both under and behind your desk, that small thumb drive and taped on SSD I imagine are convenient options for your permanent install, but making small adjustments to where you house those, or routing a cable or two to your desktop would keep the aesthetic for most of the time, but restore some pragmatism to it too.

Cool ideas, thanks for presenting all of this stuff. About to plan tiny home office for two and I'd also want to achieve a clean and clutter-free space.

I love ProAudio LA! I get my Mogami cables from them for all my needs now. I used to use RiverSound but they dont exist anymore. $500 worth of cables they built for $120 😂

The internal cable routing is giving me similar vibes to modern bicycle builds. Such a pain in the ass if you don't put in the right amount of slack for the moving components.

100%. I’ve built so many bikes over the years and definitely know the pain of improper cable measurement. Haha

Good video, interesting ideas. Some cables don’t bother me, but it’s easy to have far too many. You did a good job achieving your goal, looks great. You lost me a bit at super glue, which I have never found reliable over time. Thank you.

i also recommend a long board (same width as the keybaord) under the screen... this way u can place the audio stuff , a paper and pen on it with it laying in the way.. also u can put ur keyboard under it... if u want it out of the way...
