Love the setup dude. Also for anyone like me who sat here listening to that piece of music at 9:00 thinking it reminded me of something, it's Yeah yeah yeah's Sacrilege.
Your Dad has some really great tools and the piece of Walnut is beautiful. I bet he was happy to be involved in your project! Great build and setup. Kudos!
This video was done so professionally and then I see you only have 92 subscribers? That is crazy! Your channel is going to grow so much. Definitely going to take some ideas from your desk setup!
Thanks for posting this! I've been eyeing that butcher block, but seeing how European Walnut looks next to the American Black Walnut in your video helped me make a decision.
I am obsessed with that desk shelf. I want one just like it so bad but I don't know any one who knows how to do that. It's beautiful and much nicer than that popular/expensive one all the other RUclipsrs are always plugging in their videos. Great job with this!
Building a desk and will attempt to replicate his desk shelf. He linked the base material and will take a trip to Lowes and see what I can come up with.
I did a desk build recently with a walnut veneered plywood and used the same Arm R Seal Satin. Turned out great! But I didn't realize until after I started that it takes about 24 hours to dry, but the final coat takes 30 DAYS to fully cure. As long as you're not putting anything heavy on the top, it's fine, but it can deform the finish if it's too heavy.
I know this video is over a year old, but I still love the style and look of your setup, here. I have watched the latest one, but I still like this minimalist style. I just bought the wood to make my new desk. I also just bought the MX Keys and the MX Master 3S. Before that, I upgraded my monitor (from dual 24" to a single curved ultrawide 32"). I have the monitor mounted on the wall, but I still need to run the cables in the wall. I'll wait on that until I get the new desk built since it will be out of the way and I can get to that wall much easier. I'm also mounting my USB hub and a couple other things to the underside of the desk, similar to what you did. The desk I'm building will have cable management built into it, too. I hate seeing cables, so I made sure to add that to the design.
While watching this video I immediately look over to my blank buckland blue wall to my left and envisioned something similar. Thanks for the inspiration!
Great Video 👏 Too close to sceens, wider desk would be my preference but if your happy, cool. Think folks undervalue desk width = more real estate is better for eye strain & space to store stuff.
Only thing i would say is to move your SD card reader back a few inches to prevent snapping your SD cards! Accidents happen! Great video love the setup.
high density Leds are the only way to truly avoid hot spots as I understand it. Look into it, they are a huge improvement, especially if one is sensitive to hot spots.
Thank you! I actually moved recently, so I'm not sure how big that room is anymore. If I had to guess how long the wall was that desk was against, it was roughly 11ft, maybe
Love the whole wood + metal industrial look you went for with the table and shelves. The royal blue paint on the walls with the white trim is really nice too.
Thanks for posting the links to everything, those Ikea Alex drawers were the final piece I was looking for to finish my new 6ft desk build. Really appreciate it man.
Your best bet may be to either check to see if you have any local lumber suppliers or check eBay. I think big chains also have options, like Home Depot, but they are way too pricy in my opinion
Nope! A lot of people were concerned about that, but I never noticed any issues. But, with that said, I ended up converting it to a standing desk that has a support bracket to help prevent it. So, not sure if there would have been any long term issues with it
Very cool. I love thsi big piece of wood on the wall... and that you used the possibility to build your custom-made desk shelf. All in all (for me) VERY cool looking.
I personally still really like it. I'm not someone that knows a ton about what makes a desk chair perfect though, so I'm sure there are other great options out there as well. My only complaint has been that where you rest your arms, they aren't locked in place. I believe it's like that because your arms are constantly moving around. But it would be nice if the chair has a feature to lock them
Very nice build. You did a great job. I don't know about you but I'd want to put some sort of protective finish on the butcher block to protect from moisture (i.e. cups). For me, having an adjustable dual monitor arm setup is so much nicer in daily use. I know for thumbnails & photos it looks nice to have those equally size monitors side by side, pushed against the wall. But in reality, I like to work in front of one monitor as my primary and have the second monitor truly function as a "secondary" display. You can still do this with reasonable aesthetics but you need a more substantial monitor arm. I almost always pull the primary display closer to my eyes and centered over the keyboard. When I'm finished using it, I push it back against the wall for better aesthetics and desk space. Of course, my dual monitor arm setup cost about $300 but it was worth it.
Hi Lee! What's the name of the furniture that you show at the minute 2:26? I was searching it for a while since I saw it in another video from a youtuber, where did you buy it and how is it called? It will really helps, thank you and great video!
It's IKEA FJÄLLBO TV unit. I also saw it in a video a couple years ago and had to get it. I think Austin Evans has a few too. I love the piece. Here's a link to it: www.ikea.com/us/en/p/fjaellbo-tv-unit-black-90339290/
I recently made a very similar setup. Not quite as refined as yours though. Home Depot was sold out of the butcher block in my area, so I ended up having to go with a 8 foot walnut karlby. I was able to put it on Motorized sit stand legs.
This looks incredible! Massive upgrade from your old one :) I'm "planning" to build a budget desk of my own by using most of the stuff from IKEA. Btw that wood art with the led strip behind it was really creative. Good job!
nice to see someone who isn't just trying to market and sell really expensive cheap shit to you through a whole video you build everything like I do awesome dude!
Sorry for the delay. This top was 25" (Home depot's website shows: Dimensions: 8 ft. 2 in. L x 2 ft. 1 in. D x 1.5 in.) ... For already sealed, you can either go with Ikea's Karlby tops or Home Depot has the Husky tops, which I think are already sealed. I just switched to a 38" ultrawide monitor. I think 27" is nice for a dual monitor setup if you have a corner set up, but they're a little harder to use straight on because of how much your head has to turn to see either screen.
I'm in the middle of my room makeover/upgrade right now and I see this on my recommended! It was only posted a week ago yet your aesthetic is the exact thing I'm trying to create in my room. Your filmography and editing is crisp btw. Keep up the great work! :D
so cool! Pro tip, I have a similar set up (W/ Ikea Alex drawers) and I drilled into the back of the bottom drawer on each side and use that for all my power and cable management :)
I've gotten that question a lot, but I'm pretty comfortable sitting at it. That said, I've been considering testing out a standing desk legs to see what's the best height for how I work
Question: The desk shelf, how does it sit up next to the monitor mount? Building something similar. My mount clasps the desktop. So the monitor pole is technically above and on the desk. Is the shelf just pushed up on it?
@@efrensanchez8986 it’s just pushed up against the mount. It’s 54”x11”. I used the length of my monitors to determine how long I wanted it to be and my laptop’s size to determine the depth. Hope this helps!

My favourite part of this actually is the huge wooden slab on the wall! Just sick!
