    Got the same problem, about to take a 12 gauge Mossberg to the right front fender. No, just packing it in and going in for service;. Over a smooth road, quiet as can be, bumpy road, looking for the right front fender to fall off. Strange thing, the car handles great in every way. I could do what the wife does, turn up the stereo, but it would still drive me crazy. Did you ever get it fixed? 04 C4S

    Kevin, thanks for the little bracket how to! Much appreciated. I bought some new ones so I’ll try it out this week. My rattle was at slow speed on bad road and after end links, strut mounts and tuning fork and coffin arm control arms it’s finally gone. I was hoping you got it with the. We control arm. Good luck brother! If it’s cool I’m going to link your page on my RUclips page. 👍🏻

      Thanks and no problem.. Yeah rattles can be a pain. I was hoping to look at it this weekend but, the Cayenne and mini need some attention. Sure go ahead a link it 👍🏻

    Hi just to let you know it is very important to tighten that control arm with the car on the ground and the weight on the suspension or you will prematurely wear out that inner bushing and is possibly the cause of that noise you're hearing. Mick, Northern Ireland 👍🍻

    • @KevinsEuropeanGarage
      @KevinsEuropeanGarage  2 года назад +1

      Hey Mick i agree if you are using regular rubber bushings. I use Powerflex urethane bushing no need to worry about having to torque the arms with suspension on the ground.

      @@KevinsEuropeanGarage Hi Kevin glad you got sorted out in the end, who would of thought the radio of all things was causing that knock. Drive a CaymenS myself so understand how all these little issues cause us so much frustration lol. Keep up the good work. Mick 👍🍻

    It’s the deep weld 10mm bolt that’s loose under removable trim piece near wiper on passenger side.

    I just had this when I refurbbed my ae86. On your front strut on the side its rattling on the top nut of the strut try to tighten with an impact gun. Because the shaft spins, its hard to tighten all the way but I was able to use an impact gun and it took up the gap which was causing the rattle when I hit a bump.

      Thanks for watching yeah I have a feeling that those aren’t as tight as they should be. I thought I did check them. I guess I did a poor job. I’ll find out soon I guess.

      @@KevinsEuropeanGarage Yeah, I was the same....thought I got them tight enough but one just had a few mm of gap and that was enough for an annoying rattle or knocking sound. Good luck.

      I haven’t had a chance to test drive the car. I ruined two of the left front strut top studs. I’m waiting for those to come in. Hopes by the end of the week I should have the parts and I’ll go for another test drive

    Thank you for your video. I would still try to torque them down with he wheel on a ramp or something. It won’t hurt a thing and it might since it might not be completely seated without weight, particularly by the wheel

    Is there anything else up there that could be rattling? Spare tire/jack? Amp? Perhaps pull the frunk apart and pull the headlamps. I’m saying this because the rattle predated your coil overs so the not torquing them down theory is a bit iffy to me. I have a similar rattle in my ‘99 but can’t start addressing it until spring. I’m hoping you solve it before then so I have a full list of things to check lol.

    • @KevinsEuropeanGarage
      @KevinsEuropeanGarage  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching. Im going to pull all that stuff out just in case. I’m planing to pull that corner apart and just go over everything. Re check all the torque. Remove anything that might be loose. That rattle sound i hear is different than what used to be there before. Oh well beck to tearing it apart again. Luckily it comes apart pretty easy

    Try checking the factory tie downs that holds the battery in place.

    sounds like a strut tower I had a similar thunk sound right front of my Volvo. Strut bearings were bad

      That’s what I’m thinking next I’m going to pull out the struts and check all the torque on everything. The car drives great and handle awesome compared to before but don’t hit a hard bump

      @@KevinsEuropeanGarage Prior to buying this 996 as a project car, I had a 73 450 SLC Mercedes that my father had brought back from Germany when he retired from the Army. It was Euro Spec so VIN# was not a US VIN. I cant tell you how many times I was convinced I knew what the issue was with that car, only to replace a part, and find out it was something else and than go on a search mission for the correct part. By the time I sold that car, almost every consumable item was new :) So I feel your pain. But on the Glass Half Full side, I knew how to work on that car rather well before it found a new home.

    Sway bar links?

    • @KevinsEuropeanGarage
      @KevinsEuropeanGarage  3 года назад +1

      Those are new and don’t have play in them. I just got some new hardware for my coil overs the studs on the strut top got damaged. I’ll be putting it back together this week. I think it’s the sway bar even though I put new bushings on there. I think that it so I’m gonna drive with the sway bar disconnected and see how that goes.

      @@KevinsEuropeanGarage good luck buddy!! We're rooting for you!
      I'm currently trying alignment myself after coilovers. The rear is like Whac-A-Mole: camber changes toe changes camber. LOL

    • @KevinsEuropeanGarage
      @KevinsEuropeanGarage  3 года назад +1

      Nice I wanted to try that myself mine is all over after the rack change. I got it aligned before I did the coilovers but I kept the car around the same height so it wasn’t too bad after I installed then. Did you end up using some jack stands to hold up some pipes? I was thinking of ways I could raise the car, like put it on blocks so I can get under to make adjustments. Keep me updated on how your alignment goes I’m really curious. I’ll start working on suspension tomorrow I hope to take it for a test drive tomorrow night.

      @@KevinsEuropeanGarage String method. Doing best I can then take to shop to see how close I'm getting. (Or use shop data on recent alignment to see if you can get the same #s.) Two lengths of wood I had, put together, cut notch with razor to exactly same distance apart, attach wood to jacks stands, fishing line in notches. Used digital caliper to measure rim edges to line & enter into this calculator, which doesn't require strings to be parallel to car, just each other: robrobinette.com/DIYAlignmentCalculator.htm
      Just using small magnetic digital level on caliper to ballpark the camber. (That's tougher as level floor is so important.)
      Maybe an episode for you?

      Maybe in the future I’ll try it. Now I’m just trying to get hardware to put my car back together you wouldn’t think getting press in studs wouldn’t be an issue but I’m not having luck from wrong parts to lost packages. I’m not having luck
