A true classic. I am old enough to remember these days, and they were great. No matter what happens from now on, she has left us with some wonderful songs.
I was visiting my non smoking friend and I stepped outside the apartment for a smoke. A young neighbor of his was outside with his puppy. We started talking and something told me to introduce him to Linda with this video. About a third of the way through, he says, "she's beautiful" and I said "yes, she was." Another third of the way through, he says, "that vibrato!" After the video finished, I asked "so, what do you think?" His response, in a voice that was kind of dreamy "I felt like I was in a beautiful theater, all by myself and she was singing directly to me." I said "you nailed it! That's exactly how she made her fans feel!" I don't call Linda a singer. Adele is a singer. I call Linda, the greatest female VOCAL ARTIST in music history. The rarest of the rare!
Happy Gay Conservative ADEILLE IS AS FAR FROM A SINGER AS YOU CAN GET. THAT BITCH IS ONE OF THE WORST JOKES OF ALL TIME WITH ABSOLUTELY NO TALENT AT ALL WHATSOEVER
Take a breath there countrygirl. Adele is a pretty good singer and writes some interesting stuff...hardly a joke. Sorry you're a country music lover. That must be hard on you since country music no longer exists. It was replaced long ago by whatever you call the crap they're serving up in Nashville these days.
She can break your heart like no other female vocalist- maybe it is more like melting your heart. Whatever- a stunningly gorgeous voice no matter what she sings. This tune is a favorite and she brought her A game when doing it live.
The late great Andrew Gold on piano. The guy could play guitar, drums, piano....and was a fine singer too. A phenomenal talent. No wonder Linda wanted him in her band.
David S. HE DOES NOT MATTER AND NEITHER DOES ANYBODY ELSE PLAYING INSTRUMENTS. THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS IN THIS VIDEO IS THE ANGEL WITH DARK HAIR HOLDING THE MICROPHONE NAMED LINDA RONSTADT. THE INSTRUMENT PLAYERS ARE NOT SINGING. THAT MEANS THEY DO NOT MATTER
let's not dismiss linda's band of players so easily. the dark haired angel wouldn't be who she is without them. andrew gold was a formidable talent playing on all tracks of heart like a wheel LP - guitar, keyboard, drums, percussion. gold was her ace in the hole, she co wrote songs with him, and he was on several albums, toured with her live. she convened the early original eagles as an album and live band. a rock and roll summit of talent, ronstadt, frey, henley, leadon, meisner - (rock legend trivia: they wrote witchy woman in her living room while she was out running errands) and david sanborn, waddy wachtel (the great live show and studio guitarist of his era) all put their talents at her disposal. superstar guests and friends like dolly parton, emmylou harris to sing with her. to say nothing of her master producer peter asher. so these music folks were with her every step of the way. the queen always needs her court.
Ziggurat of Ur who gives a fucking shit about the instrument players??? They are.not the ones singing so they are kind of pointless. They're just in the background playing instruments. Linda is the only one that matters in the video
@@countrygirlcountrymusiclov5831 You're a true twatwaddle. A troll, for sure, I know, but still - the musicians DO matter, especially when in unison with a voice like Linda's. In lesser hands, Ronstadt could come across as sterile (like her dreary Nelson Riddle collections - where the voice doesn't match the orchestrations). So stop being a category 5 moron and stop commenting your gobbledygook. Linda would be embarrassed for you.
There was something special about LR s performance at the Beacon when she did ' Heart..... ' From the ' Stone Pony ' girl to an awesome songstress , she is truly a legend. This song was favourite of mine sung by Kate and Anna ( authors ) , so if this is a cover its a fabulous one
Linda, I have known you since 1971, and you have always remained true to yourself. Our comments matter not one whit, you shine by your own brilliance and make my heart ache longingly with just this one song. No god ever shone so bright, none ever made us feel so human, you do though. Thank you Linda.
Does it matter if its rock or soft rock or even mainstream pop its a beautiful song with such poignant lyrics written by a incredibly gifted songwriter and sung by a equally gifted singer in her prime.
Linda, I have known you since 1971, and you have always remained true to yourself. Our comments matter not one white, you shine by your own brilliance and make my heart ache longingly with just this one song. No god ever shone so bright, none ever made us feel so human, you do though. Thank you Linda.
In my head Linda is as she is here - a beautiful girl with a beautiful voice wearing pretty but ordinary clothes. There were no male dancers pandering to her ego and no over the top stage effects; just her and her talented musicians and here Kenny (I think) harmonising. It is heart-breaking that she is now so ill and will never record or tour again. She was different.
I do love this concert. As someone said, she looks like she gets up in the morning and combs her own hair and chooses her own clothes and then just sings - and does she sing! She is sweet here with a great band. I am a woman so I don't fancy her but I can imagine most men would and she needs no tricks - a la Lady Gaga, Madonna, Taylor swift etc. I miss those singers from my youth - I am sure there must be great talent out there (my son assures me) but it is not evident to me.
It is a beautiful song and I salute the song writers (my late sister's favourites) but Linda can do more than justice to any song she chooses to sing and she does here.
I sometimes forget this is a McGarrigle song. They were my sister's favourites and she died two years ago a little after her idol, Kate. This is very beautiful; their lyrics and music combined with Linda's vocals. It is a little emotional for me but I know the sisters totally approved of Linda singing their songs and Linda totally did them justice.
Some say the heart is just like a wheel When you bend it you can't mend it But my love for you is like a sinking ship And my heart is on that ship out in mid-ocean When harm is done no love can be won I know it happens frequently What I can't understand oh please God hold my hand Why it had to happen to me And it's only love and it's only love That can wreck a human being and turn him inside out Some say the heart is just like a wheel When you bend it you can't mend it But my love for you is like a sinking ship And my heart is on that ship out in mid-ocean
Wow....... Only 1,733 Viewings of this video????!!!!! What a shame....so many people missing out on Lindas great performance(s) !!!! Im sure Lady gaga has about 40 million viewings !!! Im so FFFucking glad I grew up with the best music in the 60s and 70s !!!!!!
That's really good. I am not at all familiar with Ronstadt's stuff, and I normally don't like this kind of 70s soft-rock, but that's a good song and she sings it so damn well that I must listen to more of her.
I must agree with you regarding the merits of this beautiful, and wonderfully sung composition. That said, labels in our society are so consistently misused that one must lament this sad state of affairs at least every now and then... my main background is science, where descriptive terms are very precise, even to the point of being "operationally defined" in a given context. While i realize this isn't possible or even desirable in everyday English, it would be nice if terms were used properly.
This is a gorgeous performance that Linda-with the beautiful accompaniment of Andrew Gold-manages to make feel intimate despite the cavernous setting. However, my favorite live version of this song was performed in a "bar in Rochester" with the songwriters, the McGarrigle sisters, and Maria Muldaur. Give it a listen... ruclips.net/video/tzpz_q7mg0M/видео.htmlsi=CARtkJFVzqdg__zX
@lexo30 Have to agree with you: she's a pretty classy lady, singer and performer. This isn't "soft rock", however: its mainstream "pop" - no real trace of rock about it.
This actually isn't pop at all. This is almost Chamber Music. The recorded version has a string quartet. She sang full blown rock, country, country rock, etc. as well as the occasional strange choice, which this was. But it worked. She could sing anything. The one thing she really kind of wasn't was pop.
Perhaps my fav of Linda's.......incredible.
Greatest female vocalist ever. Period.
KCVisuals ONE of the greatest
@@countrygirlcountrymusiclov5831 THE greatest. No question. Nobody is even close enough to be second.
This one still floors me more than 30 years later...timeless and still brings the tears
She taught me to sing....Pat Benitar said "Linda opened the door for all female singers"
Same. She is my childhood.
Her voice sends shivers down my spine.
Achingly beautiful song and voice. It doesn't get better.
A true classic. I am old enough to remember these days, and they were great. No matter what happens from now on, she has left us with some wonderful songs.
What made Linda so sad? Gorgeous original heartbreak then and even more so now. The lost art of interpretation.
I was lucky enough to see her 3 times. So beautiful. So much talent. She sounds live just like she does recorded. Maybe even better.
Tender beauty. Linda your music makes broken hearts beat on. Thank you

powerful in its simplicity. Haunting and brings back memories of many sad times in my own life.
Love the Offenbach concert and this is one of my favorite songs. If I could sing like anyone, I'd sing like Linda.
Never be another voice like her's
She had some fine instrument and knew how to play it with power and tenderness. How far we have fallen.
She can break your heart like no other female vocalist- maybe it is more like melting your heart. Whatever- a stunningly gorgeous voice no matter what she sings. This tune is a favorite and she brought her A game when doing it live.

Simply emotional expression.
I love this piece .

Some say the heart is just like a wheel
When you bend it you can't mend it
But my love for you is like a sinking ship
And my heart is on that ship out in mid-ocean
When harm is done no love can be won
I know it happens frequently
What I can't understand oh please God hold my hand
Why it had to happen to me
And it's only love and it's only love
That can wreck a human being and turn him inside out
Some say the heart is just like a wheel
When you bend it you can't mend it
But my love for you is like a sinking ship
And my heart is on that ship out in mid-ocean

Nice piano from Andrew Gold,, for this most wonderful song. Nice backing vocals from him. But Linda nails it down right down. Cool
so tender
She wrote this song about me. OK, she didn't write the song...........but she is surely thinking about me while she's singing. Can't you feel it ?

The McGarrigles sing it twice as fast. How is this "staccato"?
Sad about the news that she has Parkinson's and her singing is silenced :(
