I was the video recording engineer for this concert at the Atlanta Civic Center in 1977. After the show, Linda and her band knocked on the door (!) of my little tape truck and asked if they could watch the tape, so they and I sat together and watched the show. Linda is so unassuming and such a beautiful person. I remember talking to Don Grolnick, the piano player, who played the show with a broken hand. It was a great show, and a great memory for me, but I never thought this recording would live on 40+ years later.
What an awesome memory
Wow. Something to be truly cherished!
Thank u for ur contribution. 👍 we, the younger gen. are able to catch glimpse in the past.
I had a Crush on Linda in the 70's. Ironically, I was watching Roy Orbison when this came up. Played Roy & Linda for my Wife and she understood my THEN Crush...
Awesome story and awesome work!!!
What I loved about Linda was she never denied she was Mexican - American when asked what nationality she was.may God give her courage through these difficult times in her life.we love you Linda.
Tucson Mexico where ist that ?
love this song! in 2024!
It's in Arizona
Yes love this!
@TheMusicFan
It's in Southern Arizona...you've never been there? Mexican music in the Food City supermarkets, Spanish spoken everywhere, Mexican music all over the radio. Oh...and many Mexican/Mexican/American folk there.
Here in Tucson, client tells me he was a plumber 1980 and was at a house doing his thing and the lady of the house says "Oh, you like my daughters music" he was singing along to music in the background. Was Linda's mother and he was blown away, He has since passed away. Personally saw her in early 1980's in concert. What a special moment.
Brings back, memories of a different time in our lives. Sweeter and slower.
You are still so loved. I grew up listening to your beautiful voice.
That would be so cool
As a parent seeing people everywhere loving your kids music!
I've never been married either
Que paso donde esta alguien..?
Such a treasure. I am 71 now and never tire of this song..
Bravo from Italy da me 77! ❤❤❤
Linda Ronstadt had the voice and this was HER song. Glad to have lived at the time this musical genius lived, and "Blue Bayou" became a song.
She does absolutely incredible job but Roy Orbison still did it a little bit better. His voice is so haunting and beautiful.
I think this song was written by michael nashmuth of the monkeys

This was my mom’s favorite song. We lost her 2 years ago today. As she was about to take her final breath, I played this song for her. I miss you so much, Mom!

Have no doubt Roy smiles warmly each time this rendition of his classic is superbly performed by Linda.
Serious business friends ! It's time to petition the Country Music Hall of Fame to induct Linda Maria Ronstadt while she is still with us. She highly deserves it. Get her in there with members Dolly & Emmylou to complete the Trio while she can enjoy it. Sad that she wasn't there 20 years ago.
OMG I can’t believe she hasn’t been already!
@@FourthWay44 Linda contributed music to, promoted, and likely brought millions of new fans to the genre. She is highly deserving. One could only wonder but Nashville obviously has a criteria based on something else.

It's absolutely amazing that the"Official Music Video" is a live performance, rather than a clip compilation set to the studio version of the song. But, if anyone could pull off making a live version sound as good, if not better than a studio track, it's Linda Ronstadt.
Well stated. Cheers!
Linda Ronstadt is simply gorgeous ❤. Smooth as chocolate.

Like Jello on springs
Those doe-eyes, the petite frame, the explosive octaves... Linda Ronstadt belts out "Blue Bayou", yearning for that place and time left behind. The ache and longing is palpable in her voice.
I met my beautiful husband when I was 16, we are now married 51 years ,and this was our wedding song in 1973. Still love it and will have it as our funeral song. SOMEDAY.
Hopefully not for a long time!
I get chills down my spine when she starts belting out the chorus. Such a powerful voice.
She's gorgeous.
Ditto...me too...
Truly---
Absolutely! The only performers who come close to her in this song attacks the chorus with genuine feeling and scoops perfectly the note "world" when she sings "and the world is mine." If you can't do these 2 things, then you can't even come close to touching Ms. Ronstadt!
Was so inspired by this, I decided to channel all the misery, pain, and suffering in my life to doing a sax cover of this dedicated to Ms. Ronstadt. Feel free to DISLIKE if you don't like it.
Linda's voice mesmerized me from the first time I heard her. The strength of her voice grabbed me and still hasn't let me go for over 40 years. Love her as always.
Wow....this memory is still fresh in my head. I was the drummer

It was the summer of 76 in San Francisco and somehow I ended up in the front row gazing up at Linda and man could she sing. I hope she’s surrounded by love. She helped so many great musicians and she’s been such a wonderful person…..she deserves grace 👏👏👏👏
I love how you wrote this. You're an excellent writer. Imagine, forty-seven years ago you saw Linda, and you were able to paint the essence of that youthful night in San Francisco all these years later.
I agree with your opinion and sentiments. One technicality though... you might want to check the definition of grace. It's IMPOSSIBLE to deserve grace. Grace is unmerited favor bestowed. No one can ever earn grace nor ever deserve it. If that was possible, it wouldn't be grace at all. Bless you all. ;-) Peace out.
WOW, WHAT A AMAZING EXPERIENCE! MY aunt also saw Linda Ronstadt in concert in San Francisco. I’m so glad that I grew up listening to good music, thanks to my aunt & uncles as well as my sisters.

If I had to name the single most memorable note I've ever heard in any pop song, it would be the final note that Linda Ronstadt hits in "Blue Bayou." To this day, I can still recall my reaction to hearing it for the first time. The 4th, 3rd and 2nd notes from the end, slowly moving up the musical scale, create a huge expectation in the listener for what the final note would be. And then? Wow! Ronstadt delivers and sustains an F#5 in magnificent vocal tone! Bravo!

A unique talent they dont come much better than Linda Ronstadt a true gem
Uh.. no. You really can't say the best of all time. But she is one of the best.
Top 10
I think of her often too. I lived in Tucson for 20 years, and Linda is a Tucson homegirl. The main city bus depot in DT Tucson is named "Ronstadt Center." Not because of Linda, but her dad. Her brother used to be on the city council, don't know if he still is, I left Tucson 4 years ago. Linda is altruistic, donating to Casa De Los Ninos, a home for children in Tucson who need help. She also donated to restore the Rialto in DT Tucson. Linda still rocks even if she most unfortunately can't sing anymore. :(
@Cynthia Dickerson: A ridiculous response. Clearly some singers are better than others, and opera singers by definition are in the first ranks.
Dearest Incredible Linda! If only you knew how many times in my life I sang this (your song) while wading through the shallow, lonely waters of my ocean called life. Yes, both literally and figuratively you and this song dried many tears, as your words and voice swirled through my head, like the gentle waves caressing my ankles . During those hard times that I needed to feel 'hope' and maybe going home again someday (my Gillies Bay)... you were always there for me. I just listened and watched a recent interview of you - sharing your story of your life with Parkinson's Disease, and if only I could be Queen of the Universe for just one day, I would heal you with all the love and appreciation I have. You are such a beautiful Soul, still today...and from my heart to yours: May your future life's journey continue to to give you the blessings and smiles that you gifted me and so many, many others with. It's YOUR TURN NOW to receive mine and the millions of other people's love and best wishes for the MAGICAL LOVE you gave us

Sadly, Parkinson’s disease has taken her voice. I did sound for her sometime in the mid 70’s. Great performer and a great person.
Gorgeous in ways us mere mortals can only dream about. There is something about the warmth, purity and sadness in her voice that just takes you in. Even when she belts the natural beauty of her sound is sustained. Her critics, there have been a few who stalked her like spurned lovers, have been proven to be fools and her devoted admirers have been vindicated. Perhaps the finest female vocalist of the rock and roll era. An intriguing and elusive superstar. Wishing her peace and joy.
+mannythanx Amen! She's one of the very few who can handle both sensitive, delicate lines and big, torch-singer lines.
To my mind, only Karen Carpenter challenges Linda. Karen had a different kind of brilliance: more wistful and vulnerable. I can't choose between them.
+Daniel Gunter Ronstadt's repertoire, voice and legacy is broad and in a class of her own. To each their own but Carpenter was a limited cornball crooner. Nothing against her personally and her odd demise but she couldn't shine Linda's boots.

@@lindaronstadt3938 I have been a avid fan since the Sone Poneys, which is since 1965. My most cherished songs and music came from Canciones de mi Padre as my Mom sang just like you and my Dad accompanied her beautifully. I bought them the DVD and they watched it all the time.
It is an honor beyond belief that you took the time to respond to my appreciation of your beautiful talent.
God Bless you, be safe and stay healthy !
I remember reading or hearing an interview with Ms Ronstadt many years ago and she talked about the power of music to touch peoples lives. she discussed how children can carry secret burdens, loneliness, hurts not attended to. and she seemed to be saying that through her beautiful, evocative voice, she tried to comfort those that might be hurting alone. There were many days when she was my angel, comforting me through some very difficult times. It was her beautiful, tender, heartbreaking vocals that reached me and allowed me to grieve.
And when i had enough, I could always move the needle to "Heat Wave," dance, and feel the joy!
"she tried to comfort those that might be hurting". Well said, well felt. Fine comment.
Linda got me through the 70's. I left Boulder, CO. and "Blue Bayou" was my anthem.
Beautiful testament to her voice and to her inner character! I hope you're doing OK now.
I 💕 her voice, she was such a natural beauty ❤
Always absolutely loved her voice
Ya, you’re just like my dad, she is just too super awesome, which of her songs you like listening too?
@@palominokyla7155 this one is definitely my favorite by her. She was gorgeous!
Sounds so clean clear crisp as it did then.... now that's how you carry a note!!!
TWITCH W
Pinup with killer pipes. Great bands, great songs. Linda was always much more than just the hits. Superb talent.
And that ladies and gentlemen is the perfect rendition. Never again will a woman of this planet perform singing ability better than that of Linda Ronstadt.
I wish there was something I could do for this lady to repay her for all the smiles given me over the years, just a beautiful and most talented woman !!
Sal Lopez, Thank you for the comment. I have no idea how to let her know.
Thankfully, Wayne, Ms. Ronstadt seems to have deep and abiding friendships, a solid, close-knit extended family, and two children who are near to her. You are doing your part in the best way possible-enjoying and celebrating what was her life's mission: singing great songs!
Thank you for your view, I'll just keep enjoying her singing and keep on smiling
Lorraine Liberti, Thank you.
Just wait... There are things coming.....
Patsy and Linda. Two best female singers of all time.
Don't forget Karen Carpenter
The ABBA ladies for me.. all time.
@@RyanJohnson-ed5hvoh, God, yeah, Karen was awesome, too!! ❤
Jo Stafford was the very best ever.
Emmy Lou ain't bad neither.
I had the privilege of hearing her perform this at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley back in the late 70's. You literally could have heard a pin drop! I was already a massive fan but ... DAMN...she sang this Orbison classic with such perfection, tenderness and passion that my respect was cemented forever!
After watching Man on Fire for like the hundredth time lol, I finally came to hear the full song. She has a voice on her!! Bravo!!!
One of the most beautiful voices of all time.
Linda, Linda,Linda. On a very short list of the finest vocalists to ever grace this planet. She could sing like an angel and rock like the devil. A warmth and wonderment that is all too rare.
woodrow Strong and Warm. Tough guys loved her.
I am forever indebted to Linda Ronstadt. She was truly unmatched in that 70's-early 80's period with her sheer vocal power and subtlety. And in this live performance--which, by the way, is a difficult song to sing--she simply ROCKS IT!
And I'm loving the boho chick look, Linda!
Beautiful song , perfectly sung by a beautiful woman
