Roberta is from my hometown in Asheville NC. One Christmas, she gave a free concert downtown in the late 1980's. I remember her in a full length fur coat standing on stage as we were all very cold but she was a true professional and spectacular and her voice was just as good live as in the recordings. Roberta was a special person.
this voice......is/was/will be the standard....I have always loved her voice!...crystal clear, wonderful pitch and sooooooo much emotion comes from Roberta through her voice!
This is Roberta Flaak's song. None else has ever been able to convey the meaning behind these lyrics. It truly is oe of the most beautiful love songs ever written

Oh, YEAH!!! And we happened to have an attic, when this played on the radio, every day! I can still smell the wood rafters on a hot, humid Allentown summer day!!!
the classic is timeless; the lyrics, the melody, the vocals and the instruments are just fabulous. The song is among my collection of the Golden oldies. Love it.
Magical....the voice, the range, the composure, everything 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿 I thank my late dad for ensuring that we grew up listening to proper, proper music!
I just had to hear this today. This instant. I wanted to sing it with her driving in my car. A little old lady driving home singing w Roberta Flack. Yup! Just what I needed. 🎶 ❤😊💐
Im a 64 year old man. This is a song that reflects my feelings when my son came into my life. It is so relatable that i still sing it to him, he is in his early 30s
To me Roberta Flack is, and has been one of the major musicians in the history of the rock & roll era. Her crystal clear vocals combined with her gift of piano, her obvious spiritual goodness, and her love of life, music, peace, and sharing her talents with the rest of the world, I believe Roberta Flack ranks right up there with the likes of Maria Callas, Èdith Piaf, Leontyne Price, Nina Simone, and Mahalia Jackson. These are our angels of voice, comfort, and inspiration.
My , late father turned my family onto Roberta back in the mid 70's . We' d listen to this and Simon and Garfunkle on long family trips in our car . Good Stuff !
So heartbreaking to me that Roberta Flack is dying from ALS. No crueler disease. Crying now at her suffering. So grateful for her amazing unique voice. May she find peace soon.

I never knew that until I watched a special documentary about Don McLean. Killing Me Softly was written by Lori Lieberman, who wrote it on a napkin while she watched Don McLean sing several songs, especially Empty Chairs. She was going through a breakup and was only 19 years old. Her friend made her go see him at a club and she felt as though he was singing about her life. She recorded Killing Me Softly about Don and it just started going up the record charts. Roberta Flack heard it while on an airplane, then contacted Quincy Jones and said she wanted to record the song right away. Roberta put her flair on it and it was wonderful. A beautiful song that started out as a poem on a napkin.

I was 16 in 1973. OMG, High School with this quality of singer and music, How lucky were we!!
I was just starting my senior year in HS. The early 70's had some of the best music ever written and performed.
As a very young little boy, many a night on my am radio, fell asleep listening to this beautiful song.
Yes, funny to remember how we used to fall asleep with our transitors. Parents always had to give us new batteries. 😅😊😊
