In Deadpool Team-Up, Deadpool says 'thing ring, do your thing' while the thing is fighting an alien in a wrestling ring. That's a deep cut right there.
Benjamin J. Grimm might be my favorite comic character. And the whole point of him fighting the Hulk is that Ben is clearly outmatched; but he doesn’t give up against all odds. And really, who can beat the Hulk? It’s a short list.
Exactly, Ben never gives up a fight, even if he has no chance of winning, he actually single handled saved the Earth that way when Champion one of the Elders of the Universe came to Earth with only one goal to find someone who could equal him or best him in combat, no one could not even Ben, but because he never gave up, even though Champion beat him nearly to death, Champion gained so much respect for him that he spared the Earth
andrew t absolutely nail on the head. List is small. Hulk is a boss. Hulk has gone toe to toe with some of the heaviest hitters including Thanos. But Grimm vs hulk was a great clash.
Plus, Franklin knows and loves the Thing as his "Unca Ben" - any story where he tried to change Ben would no doubt end with him undoing it because he either realised it upset Ben or because he wouldn't be able to accept the new version as his "uncle".
I remember reading a story where it turned out that Ben could have changed back and forth at will, but he had a psychological block against returning to human form due to his relationship with Alicia Masters.
Say what you want about the 2000's FF films, but I think Michael Chiklis did a *great* job as Ben Grimm. And I mean that in general, not just compared to the shitty ones.
Roger Cormans film wasn't a failure in the sense, the movie was only made so Fox could retain the rights to the F4 for another 7 years and was never planned to be released to begin with.
Also, as bad as the Roger Corman film was, it had a story that was the most loyal to the comics origins we've ever seen. None of the movies made since then have come even close.
It's movie Optioning not rights as everybody likes to mislabel it. And a private company Neue Constantin actually held that movie Option not 20th Century Fox. It isn't a Fox production. That partnership didn't happen until 2005. But yes it is kind of ridiculous to label something a failure when it's only going through the motions to begin with.
I liked The Thing when he mutated further into a more rocky Thing, because he was stronger and marvel always made him weak this is when he could stand up against the hulk and Hercules and etc,etc he is the most under rated comic star and that's not right
Marriage AND having children, those are the two things Marvel/DC hated the most for...some reason. There is a reason people love Jonathan Samuel Kent(Superboy 2) and its because Superman can have a freaking SON NOW! And while we're at, give Wally his wife and CHILDREN back for fuck's sake. Just ridiculous.
YES-also Spider-man! I mean yeah, there's that cute "Renew your vows" Alt-U story, but that comic makes you wonder...why isn't THIS the canon book? I mean, people WANT Spider-man to be happily married and have a family, why does Marvel keep throwing unrealistically dramatic curveballs?
Although this might not seem to be related, but this was an advantage of DC's Multiverse: It allowed some characters to get married and have children (and also get older). As an example, on Earth-Two many of DC's characters got married, including Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, The Flash, and Green Lantern. The title "Infinity, Inc." features the sons, daughters, and proteges of members of The Justice Society of America. This could be done while still keeping their core characters (set on Earth-One) unmarried.
I wouldn't have a problem with my heroes having children but it would be much better with other heroes. Also it kind of ages them. Once again, not actually hating.
There was at least one episode of the Thing cartoon that mentioned that he was actually the adult Ben Grimm, and his teenage form was the result of a botched attempt at a cure.
What about when the Fantastic Four literally went to Heaven to ask God to bring Ben back? And God was Jack Kirby in his art studio? Or when Ben had to wear a mask because his rocky mug got smashed in?
TheBlues32 oh thats why he had the mask?!? I was wondering that in one of the comic stories im currently reading, i think its Infinity Crusade. I couldnt find an answer online! Who smashed his mug in?
lovin spoonful Was that it? Thought it was a Hulk fight. ...or maybe he fought the Hulk while wearing it? It's been decades since I laid eyes on that issue my uncle owned.
It was after Torch went nova at NYU & evaded the law. Hulk Ghost Rider Spider-Man & Wolverine went to track him down. Fights happen, Wolverine slices him up. Thing gets the helmet at Dr. Doom's castle from a suit of armor. I can't remember why they are at Dooms
Peter Whitney not exactly but yea wolvie cut him bad. But wolvie did the same to Scott summers. So Scott cut off wolvies hand. Swings and roundabouts lol.
Weapon X not Wolverine as that was an Age of Apocalypse thing not regular continuity. And what Weapon X did was make the name a little more accurate, he cut out his eye.
I actually quit watching the video after he mentioned hannah barbara. I only stay subscribed for Jules and Scott. _Sometimes_ the videos are good. But it isn't often.
The fact that the Thing only beat the Hulk once (in a very lame and unexciting story) is a crime. He should have at least beat the Hulk one out of four times; that way the readers wouldn't be sure what was going to happen. It would also have created an exciting "I wonder how/if the Thing's going to beat him this time??" feeling. In the words of the Thing: "I was robbed!!"
I love Ben Grim , the Thing is SUPPOSED to be a bad ass. He has been integral in many huge storylines thru the years. But if you look thru comic & cartoon history...for some reason he always seems to get his ass whooped more often than giving it too whoever. Look @ his powers. He is endowed with the 'Power Cosmic '. The same power emanated from Galactus, who also endows his 'Heralds'....and they are extremely powerful. BTW...I know Galactus didn't give the FF their powers. But, God Anne power is in them. Going back, back to the Thing. He has gone toe to toe with the HULK, Gladiator, Colossus, Juggernaut & many more. But he more times than not ended up on the losing side of fights. I truly feel like he was Marcel's version of a ''Whipping Boy'. He fought different versions of the HULK more than anyone. In the late 80's early 90's the Thing mutated & OWNED the 'Grey Hulk'. But back to my original question & point: it looks like he had a ruff time so far. What do you guys think?
It seemed The Thing was something like 85-90% as strong as The Hulk, the difference small enough to rarely be a decisive factor in their confrontations. According to the Marvel writers, The Thing was faster, more agile and quicker thinking in a fight, factors which could largely compensate for the strength difference in a fight, and speak to his rarely being beaten by The Hulk.
When Ben was "Possessed" by Dr Doom's soul there was a little bit of time when he was himself and saw that he was hurting his family. He told Reed to kill him, because he knew if he didn't Dr doom would use him to hurt the people he loved. Reed didn't want to kill his best friend and was extremely depressed afterwards, and did everything he could to save him.

BoyNamedSue4 You aren't missing much. I've seen an episode or two back when Cartoon Network aired really old cartoons (like the original Birdman series and Space Ghost).
Far out I remember the Thing Ring catchphrase if absolutely nothing from the show and I'm in New Zealand, those sort of shows were few and far between back then.
Honestly, for the time period and budget involved, Cormans Thing wasnt that bad. He gets panned in every movie he is in, but honestly, he is a giant rock monster. Only so much can be done.
That's it? Some of these items weren't even that bad. Alternate costumes (not a one in particular), leaving the main group to be on other teams (same can be said of like 80% of members on any hero team), etc... These lists are getting into WatchMojo territory.
He is not a rock. The Thing possesses a smooth, orange, rock-like hide as a result of exposure to cosmic rays. The mutagenic process caused his musculature, bone structure, internal organ composition, soft tissue structure, and skin to greatly increase in toughness and density.
It was the definition of fanboy service? Kind of hard to make the case of "I'm your equal!" when you're dressed in less clothes than a Playboy model....
The Thing suit was a great story line and those actual fans who read the book know that this was short lived as he was eventually restored albeit reluctantly. One of the principle ongoing plot lines in FF has always been the Thing's struggle with being the Thing and when he reverted to Ben Grimm permanently FF fans got to see what would happen if this occurred and for awhile though not as powerful, the Thing suit allowed him the best of both worlds. Also the Corman movie was sadly the best FF movie, it just had to work with no real budget. Also it is pronounces Bar Ber a not Barbara
No he didn't call it that, he just promounced it that. It's called "british". Ben Grim and Peter Parker? Were they partners before......? What a strange pairing.

How are you going to attack the Roger Corman movie? It was done on a shoestring budget, was never intended on being released and was STILL better than the Jessica Alba movies. That suit you took a shit on looks better too.
Yeah no shit he can't beat Hulk...have you even heard of world breaker Hulk? I mean, Thing is strong, but folks like Thor and Hulk are in a league of their own
How long was Hulk considered world breaker Hulk? Was that how strong he was for 20 years or just a few issues? Is that one example really a strong enough argument to be brought up for almost 60 years of history? Their fights have ended in a draw more times than Hulk has won.
There was one time Loki considered using Thing as a pawn in his schemes and have him fight Thor, but Loki dumped the idea because Thing wouldn't be powerful enough (Loki describes him as "only mortal" despite his powers) - it can be pretty annoying how nebulous Marvel are about how strong their characters are.
Thing only beat the Hulk once only because he was in that even more powerful pineapple form and the Hulk had been reduced to the more intelligent but far weaker Grey Hulk. So he can't really say he really beat the Hulk except in the most technical fashion. He may as well brag he beat Bruce Banner.
Hulk hasent always been op. Back then thing was one of the most physically strongest in marvel and was able to go toe to toe with the hulk but hulk was always slightly stronger. Nowaday hulk has gotten a beast ass buff
Of course it was mark waids run on the fantastic 4 that had Reed kill the thing. I'll tell ya whenever I find one good thing he did I usually find 10 more bad things he has done and hasn't apologized for
Why Don't you Take a seat? She messed telepathically with his mind, needless to say he was with frost and grew to love her. Think he end up with jean but it was mess because of new writers and artists.
In Deadpool Team-Up, Deadpool says 'thing ring, do your thing' while the thing is fighting an alien in a wrestling ring. That's a deep cut right there.
Frano Holloway hahaha i didnt even get that joke when i read that comic!

andrew t Juggernaut...Molecule Man...Galactus...possibly Groot, depending on the size he's grown and the nature of the wood his body is made of...
I thought of that one as well. Really great characterization for Ben
andrew t not clearly. And the list is loooooooong
andrew t absolutely nail on the head. List is small. Hulk is a boss. Hulk has gone toe to toe with some of the heaviest hitters including Thanos. But Grimm vs hulk was a great clash.
Never understood how Franklin Richards, the kid who can change reality, never returned Ben to his human form.
Well subconsciouly Ben wants to be the thing thats why.
because by the time Franklin is fully powered, Ben has accepted being the Thing, Ben Grimm Idol of millions is an excellent comic showing this.
Four Words: Status Quo is God.

*Everything* was better than Fan4Stic, the 2015 De-Boot.
I loved him but not the suit. It's got to be CGI in the new Marvel movie.
He's the best live action version of the Thing, and Paul Frees is the best animated version of the Thing.

How long was Hulk considered world breaker Hulk? Was that how strong he was for 20 years or just a few issues? Is that one example really a strong enough argument to be brought up for almost 60 years of history? Their fights have ended in a draw more times than Hulk has won.
The Thing wouldn't stand a chance against modern day Hulk. Fight me lol
You can always know that someone's opinion can be freely discounted when they say the Corman FF is bad.
All movies of the F4
um sue storm's 90s redesign was amazing
"Thing ring, do you're thing!"
I never saw the Hanna-Barbera Thing cartoon but I swear I've heard that before. Maybe Scooby-Doo referenced it?
Of course it was mark waids run on the fantastic 4 that had Reed kill the thing. I'll tell ya whenever I find one good thing he did I usually find 10 more bad things he has done and hasn't apologized for
the weirdest part of him abandoning his fiancée at the altar is she then hooked up with Johnny for a bit.
I don’t know how but I have seen that Flintstone/Ben mash up. Boomerang maybe??
I wonder what the forgettable moments of Galactus, Doctor Doom, Magneto, Cyclops, Catwoman, Lex Luthor, and Silver Surfer were.
Teigan Nyman Well, i know Cyclops had something about an affair with Emma Frost.
Why Don't you Take a seat? She messed telepathically with his mind, needless to say he was with frost and grew to love her. Think he end up with jean but it was mess because of new writers and artists.
Recently the thing has beaten the hulk in the latest fantastic four run. Though I don't know if he'll was a draw though he knocked him out.
I use to watch the cartoon from #10. they use to put the ring as a prize in cereal boxes
That 90s movie is still the best of the 4.
Thing Ring is constantly referred to in the comics
