    Missing one that's so big that most people forget the original existed.
    The Suicide Squad were originally a Golden Age team consisting of various military members and scientists, fought various WW2 experiments and monsters. It wasn't till nearly 30 years later that writer John Ostrander revamped the team as mostly consisting of press ganged supervillains, with Amanda Waller at the helm

    Both versions of Green Lantern were inspired by non-comic sources. Alan Scott was inspired by Aladin and his Magic Lamp, it was considered to name Alan's secret identity, Alan Ladd however there was a Hollywood actor with that name. Hal Jordon's Green Lantern Corps was inspired by E..E. (Doc) Smith's Lensman series, a series of SF novels which featured aliens from multiple worlds given high tech devices called Lens by an elder alien race, note: great space opera but sexist and racist by modern standards.

      The problem with Mar-Vell is that he just never achieved the kind of popularity that other Marvel cosmic superheroes had, like Nova, or Silver Surfer, or Adam Warlock. Sales for the Captain Marvel comic began to drop off by the early 1980s, so Marvel decided to cancel the comic and have Mar-Vell die from cancer, which ironically ended up becoming one of the greatest graphic novels in comic book history, The Death of Captain Marvel. Besides, when you have Adam Warlock, you don't really need Mar-Vell, to be honest.

    • @radicalross7700
      @radicalross7700 11 месяцев назад

      Starlin killed off Warlock years before he killed off Mar-Vell. But I suppose you can say Starlin showed he loved Warlock more by bringing him back and leaving Mar-Vell dead.

    • @44excalibur
      @44excalibur 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@radicalross7700 Starlin killed off Adam Warlock because different writers kept coming into Adam's storyline and putting a different spin on it. Since a lot of Warlock's story was inspired by the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, it was decided that Adam had to die saving the world. But his soul was alive and well in Soul World, so there was always the possibility of his return. Mar-Vell was killed off because his comic title wasn't selling, so they just decided to have him die in a way that hit the readers in a way that was very real and human, by having him die of cancer.

    While the OG Guardians from the 1960's was not that exciting, I personally like the 1990-1994 run best. Vance Astro, Yondu, Charlie 27, Martinex, Nikki, Starhawk/Aleta. Drax showed up as his character was originally intended to be, as opposed to what we see now. We got the Spirit of vengeance ( Ghost Rider ) and Hollywood (Wonder Man), Silver Surfer, and Krugarr, popping in. We got a version of Yellowjacket, Talon, and Firelord joining at points. For me that was much more fun and interesting than the later group that got moved into the MCU.

    I'd actually say that becoming the new Captain Marvel is what ultimately ruined Carol Danvers' character. She was great as Ms. Marvel, but the moment they had her take on the mantle of Captain Marvel, the Marvel writers couldn't help but maker her an insufferably pretentious and sanctimonious character, succumbing to the excesses of fourth wave neo-feminism, which was a betrayal of her classical feminist origins. Carol was at her best when she was more like She-Hulk and didn't take herself too seriously while still being heroic.

    Let's not give James Gunn too much credit. To say that Gunn based his Guardians of the Galaxy move on the 2008 version is ignoring the fact that Gunn took a very sloppy and juvenile approach to the material. If you do your research you'll see that the modern Guardians of the Galaxy are actually the remnants of Warlock and the Infinity Watch from the 1990s, which consisted of Adam Warlock, Gamora, Drax, Moondragon, and Pip the Troll. That comic title, which was created in the aftermath of the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, was unsuccessful, as was the attempt to revive the original 31st century Guardians of the Galaxy title in the late 1990s, so Marvel decided to create a new Guardians team out of what was left of Warlock's group. But Gunn foolishly left Adam Warlock out of his films, instead focusing on Star Lord, and cutting Adam Warlock completely out of the entire Thanos/Infinity War storyline, in spite of the fact that Warlock is the one who defeated Thanos and not including Warlock in the Thanos storyline is like not including Superman in the Darkseid/Apokolips storyline.

    No mention how they used Kathy Kane to tell stories about LGBT+ when she was created to make sure Batman and Robin were not mistaken for gay due to the actions of a scumbag bigot masquerading as a wise man?
    And the Flash actually did this more than once. Well maybe not. Wally wasn't Barry, but he did alright. That's why it felt like a step back instead of forward when they brought Barry back. Honestly, he HAD his perfect awesome death. He didn't need to come back.

    I'd agree that Tim Drake was the better Robin than his predecessors but DC have told us all that Tim never became Robin thanks to the New 52. He was Red Robin only. Yeah DC, let's ruin the immensely popular character because he was made in the 90's. Sigh.
    (See also Helena Bertinelli Huntress)
    As an aside, green Hulk IS Grey Hulk. Sigh.

      Actually, Storm's father was an American journalist who, if memory serves, met Storm's Kenyan mother while traveling/working in Africa. She came with him to the US, where Ororo/Storm was born.
      When she was six years old, she was with her parents in Cairo when they were killed.
