It's really sad to see that Jack Kirby was treated unfairly until the end of his life. That, and Marvel finally giving him credit after his death is like giving his family a slap to the face.
They left off a few head exploding Spider-Man controversies. Like Aunt May actually being his mom after his father cheated with her and she gave birth to Peter..... or the radioactive sperm thing....
LINKROXAS if it wasn't for the movies, I don't think I could continue being a fan of Marvel (I mean the company itself, I will always love the characters).
y'all are tripping you act like you know how Kirby was treated but who among you has watched the documentary on Kirby? Did anyone of you read anything at all about the industry of comics in the 50's, 60's and 70's? Do any of you understand that the reason Stan Lee (Stanley Lieberman) was heaped with praise because his uncle founded timely comics witch would become marvel? Did you know it was always planned for Stan Lee to run the company as editor and chief? Do y'all understand Stan Lee didn't get extra money he just got credit witch helped him rise to a position of power in the company but before that happened Mavel was bought out by Viacom and turned Stan Lee into a figure head he never wanted to be? Do any of you understand the reason Stan Lee has money now is because he kicked butt and fought to get marvel back, he fought to save the entire comic industry, and finally he got rich when he salvaged marvel from going out of business and invested in marvel films. It sucks that Jack the King Kirby didn't live to see his creations on the big screen and didn't get to lavishly pamper Ros but he didn't hate Stan Lee so why do y'all?
Vigilante 4 Hire Jack Kirby created most of the Marvel heroes we love today and got screwed over by Marvel. Bill Finger was in a word the "True Creator" of Batman, well the creator of Batman's best aspects (the ninja look and style, the detective aspect, the gritt etc. Etc. Yet he got screwed over by DC
Whaaaaaaaat? Undoing a decades-long marriage with magic demon divorce because you want Spider-Man to be like a version of him from when you were reading comics years ago is a controversial choice?
Well it is hated by a majority of the people. and one man’s opinion where he should be shoved a knife up their urethra. Along with doc oct to take over spidey mind. We need a reboot on that timeline
Lol ripping off the comic book covers didn't work at all. I'm a fan of both Marvel and DC, But it's clear to see that Marvel's Fear Itself and Siege are no where near as popular or iconic as DC's Blackest Night and Flashpoint events.
Gemnist Idk, Blackest Night is pretty damn popular. But you're right, Reign is pretty popular as well. And of course you're right Flashpoint is definetly the most popular
Flashpoint got an animated movie, a live action movie coming and a story arc in a popular TV show. It's far from the best Flash story, but somehow it's the most popular.
MeehLaq well best is subjective. IMO it's my favorite but other great ones don't get enough attention, like Flash Rebirth, Trail of the Flash, basically anything Wally West did (he's way better than Barry), ect.
Outside opinion from somebody who doesn't read comics(although I do read manga): I've literally never heard of Seige or Fear Itself, but I have heard of Blackest Night and Flashpoint.
Now hang on...Superior Spider-Man was an interesting series. Doctor Octopus, Spidey's original arch nemesis (Osborn wasn't of note...or even named...for years to come) has his body. His life. But due to having access to Peter's memories, the life lessons Peter learned were imprinted on him as well. Sure he was still a narcissistic asshole, but he had developed something of a sense of responsibility, even doing surgery to save a girl who had been injured by his "Ends of the Earth" plan. And in the end, he truly became a better person, letting go of his ego and giving Peter his life back. ...granted his recent ressurection undid some (but not all) of that character development, but it made for a good read. The Clone Saga and Sins Past were garbage and Superior Spider-Man was leaps and bounds better. And Jack Kirby was truly shafted. Best they seemed to do was make him God once back when Ben Grimm had died. The Fantastic...Three...went to get him back and found themselves in an artist studio. ...then there are "Kirby crackles"...and I think he was used in an episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as an artist with a pencil that brought drawings to life. But no real money for it. So yeah, the thought doesn't count this time around.
I say it before and say it again... Miles Morales is an excellent example of how to create a new character, instead only change color/sex of an already existing
Saying that comics were "White washed" is intellectually dishonest. That term refers to when you replace an existing character with a white counterpart. These heroes were already white to reflect the current population of the U.S. Imagine going to Africa and saying, "Why are all these posters and billboards featuring mostly black people? Where's the diversity??" It's just catering to the current demographic. I'm all for adding a diverse cast, and that was never the issue for most readers. They were upset that Peter Parker had to DIE just to replace him with a new character. They wondered why Miles couldn't just have his own solo-story or even be a different character entirely. Anyways, the way that controversy was portrayed here was dishonest. There definitely were a few people angry about his race, but most were just upset to watch their childhood hero die for the sake of replacing him with a new character to sell more comics in the short-term (alienating long-term fans in the process).
The most striking controversy had to be the hank pym abuse. I’m not a big fan of the character so forgive me for not having a good hard hitting joke for his other wives but I gotta say that’s the first time I’ve seen the wasp get swatted.
They can take away his art, they can take away his money, but one thing that they can never take away, is that Jack Kirby will always be the king of comics
Miles Morales' situation was a weird one. A lot of rumors went around. One he was supposed to be gay or trans. One he was supposed to be Mexican. A lot of random rumors going around.
The thing with Marcus was reconned and explained he mind controlled the avengers and Carol returned and asked professor x and the x men for asylum until she mentally recovered
White Washed world of Comics? Um Black Panther, Falcon, War Machine, Storm, Bishop, this list goes on. The shere implication that fans were racist because they didn't want a Black Spider-man is ludicrous, and there wasn't a major controversy over Miles Morales. Riri Williams, Robbie Reyes, and Amadues Cho drew up controversy because they were shitty characters taking the roles of great ones.
Lots of natives get less than that all the way around. Btw in Black I would just like maybe if this whole let’s diversify our universe thing is gonna happen cause hey other people do exist then maybe could the natives get more love. I’m more than fine with any race getting something hell this is a universe with lord knows how many races so people being adverse to other races getting some time to shine is kinda funny to me. I just wanna see how natives would be handled and get treated in this one. I mean if people are gonna go with the whole this one had plenty it’s these guys turn now and that’s ok then everyone step back so the natives get theirs. Btw this was a semi troll post. I am black and I do wanna see how native would be done on this on. I just don’t care about the politics is getting put in this a lot. Oh and btw for anyone who reads this on both sides, even peter Parker wasn’t the first in story. He may have had that name first but it’s been established before the whole miles thing that technically he’s a legacy as well.
jt808ful there are characters like Echo and Apache Chief, but you have a point in how they hardly get attention drawn to them. I'm not against diversity at all, I just don't like bad characters replacing good characters Jason Todd replacing Dick Grayson, Amadeus Cho replacing Bruce Banner, Robbie Reyes replacing Johnny Blaze, Riri Williams replacing Tony Stark, etc. notice how my 1st example was a white male character replacing a white male character. I loved it when Nightwing became Batman, Spoiler became Batgirl, War Machine became Iron Man, Miles became Spider-man, Val-Zod became Superman, Bucky became Captain America, Falcon became Captain America, Punisher became Captain America, Genis Vell became Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel became Captain Marvel, etc. I liked it when Doc Ock became Spider-man, and I didn't mind it when Jane Foster became Thor. A reason why a good number of those worked is because they were established and liked characters before taking the Iconic mantles and why Miles and Val-Zod worked is because they lived in an alternate reality so readers could get to like a character without feeling like that character is being forced upon them. Replacing a white male character with a non-white male character isn't progressive, creating a new and original non-white male character is.
Scotty Cameron mantles get taken up a lot by all sorts of characters, Some for good reasons in or out of story or some bad. It’s what done with them and how it’s executed that I worry more about or if the creator gave blessingg or would be ok with this. But in reality I feel that last part isn’t always on the mind of readers. To be sure, and this is not a swipe at you just a real question, and not talk outta my ass when it comes to u good sir, are u up as worried about how a deceased character creator or writer from way back when feels about some storyline a character was in. I ask because I doubt some out there would like where some of there characters ended up even in the good stories made for the original characters and not the replacements. It could be for whatever reason but maybe for some, a story about their creation is not or would not be a story they would want. But that story does well and plenty are happy. I also ask what about characters where it’s established that this is a mantle passed down but those past people where either left unidentified or shown to span different races, genders etc. the character himself/herself/itself may have been the first portrayed on the page as mantle but not the first in story. Is it a washing when different race, gender, or whatever takes its place? And to point out u just said u liked a lot of the same thing in ur example that u later said isn’t a progressive thing. I also read read what u and written in between those. U gave a reason why the swaps can work then said they don’t work. Just a point out. Maybe I got u point wrong but that last line contradicts ur above statement unless u enjoyed the above swaps while still feeling that it didn’t help progress. I enjoy this chat. Civil and respectful so far. I thank u.
To think that Marvel is supposed to make the characters more human than DC now its the other way around. Marvel: Hey lets make Cpt.America a Nazi DC: I think its about time our poster boys should settled down. Batman's proposal and classic Superman with a family (main univesre) Marvel: Let's write our comics as if they were meant for movies. DC: Lets keep the movies and the comics seperate. Marvel: Our titles should always start with a 1 and cancel all the good lines like Deadpool and Gwenpool. Deadpool: wait wha wha WHAT!! Gwenpool: Did he said what i think he said? Marvel: I mean fans like those lines but all good things must come to an end and lets face it Gwenpool was a Gwen Stacy cash fad nothing serious. DC: Hey guys i dont know how but we got the Pools along with a sevared Joe Quesada it came with a shinning variant cover number 1 . ok Marvel wont be that stupid and sorry for the long comment.
ToRAN BlAk you don't read comics. Captain got brainwashed that he was a Nazi. Because of the red skull having xavier's powers. Only people that think captain became Nazi by himself are fake news who go off fake news like what culture.
Regarding number 5, I work at a comic store and I can confirm this is true. The shop I work at did rip those covers off and we were able to sell the exclusive variants
the most common argument I've seen about more prominent minority/female characters is that they don't have their own identities, that they are just replacing popular established heroes for the sake of diversity. I'm not saying his is my argument but its one I've seen a lot. Was I happy with some of the changes? No not at first but I've come to like some of the changes made. Like a lot of fans I wasn't crazy about the idea of some of my favorite heroes being replaced by different people ( regardless of their race or gender) but now I like most of the changes. The ones I don't are for other reasons like story progression, art or how the character is written.
Jake Johnston the only newer characters that I just genuinely don't like as characters are America Chavez, Riri Williams and Amadeus Cho as the Hulk. I'd say I'm torn on Jane Thor, leaning towards dislike even though I like her in concept. I like Kate Bishop, Laura Kinney, I like Miles Morales, I like the Runaways (who aren't being used and haven't been to my knowledge since the Quesada years for some stupid reason). Do I like most of their comics? No I mist definitely do not, which is a real shame becaise At least some of the characters are better than the treatment they've largely been given. Some of their books are straight up propaganda that have little other depth of character or story than to be the writer's mouthpiece for the writer's pet political/ideological cause which just disgusts me. It's one thing to deal with political issues in its themes and characters (if done well in the latter case), but have some nuance, maybe some class while they're at it with all of the flat out feminization of literally anyone who doesn't tow their ideological line. Other cookware just plain poorly written. Marvel is not in a good position and it hasn't been for a few years now. Honestly, some of the newer characters might actually stick and grow on more people if they we're just handled better. The only ones I think need to completely die in a dumpster fire are Tori Williams (unless she gets turned into a hard antihero or straight up villain) and especially America Chavez. Speaking solely of the characters themselves and not necessarily their current or recent series, the only newer characters that have been made in the last 15 years that are genuinely great are the Runaways, X-23, Miles Morales, Amadeus Chi when he's not the Hulk, Kate Bishop, Patriot, Hulkling and Wiccan, most of whom having been made pre-Axel Alonso.
Clone Saga, Norman Osborn coming back to life and the all out lie when they said, 'One Will Die, Forever, For Good.', So when they killed off Aunt May, she wasn't the real Aunt may but and actress playing Aunt May.
If I wanted to introduce Miles Morales it would be set in the future where Peter is still alive and retired as Spiderman. And when Miles gets his powers he would seek out Peter's help asking him to be his mentor. I wouldn't kill off Peter just to introduce a new Spiderman.
Axel Alonso reign as editor and chief. Seriously, a lot all of people complain about Joe Quesada reign as editor and chief (not saying it wasn't warranted but here me out) but, from my perspective Alonso was worse. Under his watch secret empire happened, civil war 2 happened, a lot all the core marvel characters were replaced by cheap knock offs only for 'diversity' and SJW points, Cap became a Nazi, he kept Dan Slott on Amazing Spiderman, Sales took a massive nose dive, he encouraged and allowed employees to act terribly to fans online for simply not liking the changes, he hired people based on race, gender, politics and, sexuality instead of off actual talent or skill and, he kept relaunching books back to number ones just to temporarily boost sales. And that's just the tip of the ice berg of the problems and issues that happened under his reign. It's a wonder he wasn't fired sooner.
This is either horrific editorialising (ah, the irony) or deliberate click bait. If you were a fan during some of these events, or go back and actually read up, you'd know that you're grossly over generalising and projecting your personal preference. The ultimates line was spectacularly popular and a lot of the early issues were beloved. Heroes reborn was definitely split between the homage studios and extreme studios lines, with homage studios taking over the extreme titles. And updating origins is actually periodically necessary if you wish to ground contemporary characters in recent history. The channel (Ben aside) has really gone downhill since you lost Blompier, et al, but this is the first time I'd rank you below the likes of What Mojo as just churning out inaccurate and opinionated shite. It's a slippery slope between this and articles with endless 'next' buttons and adverts saying 'colonic professionals hate this single mother from Grimsby and her weird old £5 trick.'
Are you me? I have been saying these same things on WC video comments sections for months now. Even Ben couldn't get me to stay subbed to this shit shows channels, as much as I love him. Complete ineptitude and laziness with the single drive of more revenue, with far less creativity and integrity. Basically, whatculture wants to be any other generic, clickbait, list channel with no experts or talent at all.
The Ultimates line sucked - it was a betrayal to real comics fans and it was just talentless hacks stealing the characters that real talent before them created, and putting out sh*t stories because they did not have any talent or imagination to continue with the original line of heroes. Marvel has been dead since the late 80's-early 90's and everything that came out since then is colorful toilet paper.
Yeah, because as we all know comics fans can in no way be anything other than Gen X'ers or older. And there was absolutely not an abundance of shitty storylines or characters before the late 80s!
Curu82 there was lol but the majority of those bad ones compared to the modern day ones make even the clone saga look good and this is coming from someone who is 17
''They realized they wouldn't be making billions on constant issue 1s with shiny covers'' Where have I seen this before...? Oh yeah, present day Marvel, cashing in on issue 1s every 6 months and unlikeable, preachy, unrelatable characters with horrible story writing because progressivism is the new marketing strategy these days, even though most of the people employing these strategies couldn't give less of a damn about the issues of normal, everyday people. I can only hope Bendis doesn't spread his cancer to DC.
They haven't. The renumbering is literally the same thing as relaunching, except the gimmick is ''LOOK, IT'S NOT A #1 ISSUE OR A RELAUNCH (EVEN THOUGH IT IS), WE'RE GOING BACK TO THE OLD NUMBERS (BECAUSE #1'S AREN'T SELLING ANYMORE AND ACTION COMICS AND DETECTIVE COMICS ARE REACHING MILESTONE NUMBERS) SO NOW ALMOST ALL OUT BOOKS HAVE BIG NUMBERS, CAUSE THAT'S WHAT YOU ALL WANT, RIGHT!? BIG NUMBERS!?''. It's the same shit with a different coat of paint. Same writers, same shit characters and stories, same crap. Aside from Moon Knight, GotG (now fucking cancelled because GOTTA HAVE AN EVENT EVEN THOUGHT WE SAID NO MORE EVENTS AFTER SECRET EMPIRE AND SOMETHING TO TIE IN TO THE MOVIES) and maybe Venom Inc. Everything else either sucks or is decent at best like Dr. Strange or the new Captain America book.
What no mention of the subsequent Superior Spiderman line where Doc Oct takes over Peter's body and proceeds to take out the Kingpin's empire. And several of Spiders old villains and before Robin can say "holy big brother Batman", he releases a bunch of Spider drones all over the city to keep track of crime so he wouldn't have to constantly patrol the city...OK..OK now that I recapped it it does sound pretty cool.
miles morals was a great idea, until they decided to keep sticking him in with other ultimate story lines to prop up books that should have been canceled years ago, and then they brought him over the the 616 universe which honestly felt like taking away the importance of his origin
I LOATE OMD and Quesada. I had been a Spidey reader since 1981 when that whole debacle went down and I have not bought a single issue since and won't until they bring the marriage back. I keep up online or with trades at the library but he lost my money and my fandom that day because he pushed his personal preference over writer's and fans that day not realizing that he is just the steward of these characters.
I can just imagine what anybody at Marvel would do if they saw this list, Joe Quesada, Dan Slott, Jeff Loeb, Tom Brevoort, they'd go on some massive whiny tirade about how they actually haven't made any mistakes, that none of these are controversies and blah blah fake news blah. You hit the nail on the head with the Spider-Man point about how all they care about is money.
I'm all for diversity in comic books but I don't think you should change a character's race especially one as established as Spider-Man how about creating some new characters of a different color or spotlight some of the pre-existing Black Or Hispanic characters forced diversity is stupid and it's insulting to both long time fans of the characters and people of different ethnicities it's lazy in my opinion
Tony I thought everyone loved Miles too. I was confused by that kone as I've never heard anything bad about him. Oh and that new animated movie staring him as Spidey is goikmg to be amazing.
Whatculture Comics is done by people that don't care or don't like comics. Most of their videos were essentially rip offs of articles I read on Cracked.com 7+ years ago.
I actually kind of liked Superior Spider Man for how brutal he was. He permanently crippled almost every villain he faced and even forced the kingpin to fake his own death.
Ah yes...Blackest Night, a crossover story based around resurrected characters from years ago. Coming just months after Marvel’s Necrosha, a crossover story based around resurrected characters from years ago. All around the same time as the Death of Batman series, where a weapon had flung Batman’s consciousness back in time to inhabit his ancestors and everyone thought he died. Coming months after the Death of Captain America, where Steve’s consciousness was flung back in time and everyone thought he was dead. But we never about DC Controversies... Plus the Marvel “reboots” that we’re actually parallel universes - 616 kept going alongside both of them listed here. The only time that universe was rebooted was Secret Wars 2, and it was rebuilt as was straight after. DC reboots, Marvel just a slogs away with incomprehensible retcons & side stories (seriously, forget Original Sin...how does the X-men timeline not cause the whole universe to disappear up its own arse???)
I'll take a continued continuity any day, where I can pick up any given book and be able to enjoy it, over DC's yearly reboots, where I don't even bother reading anything because it's just going to get rebooted in a year and never happen.
It really should be noted that the one more day story was designed to explain what happened and why no one knew spidermans identity and why mj and he didn't get married. It was not a couple decision either it was mj trying to do what was best for spider man and make life better again for him. It was a selfless act from her. I personally would have preferred to see them married but in the end at least it made a sense why what happened happened and why she did what she did
What the hell? Sure Superior Spider-Man had a rocky start, but overall it was a freaking awesome story and made Dr. Octopus Spider-Man's #1 Villain for me and many others
Nerwrax15 Doc Ock may have killed Peter Parker, but no one has made him wish he were dead like the Green Goblin (still love Superior Spider-Man though).
Let’s see: Chuck Austin’s run on the X-Men The Fantastic Four being cancelled because of bad movie deals Most Punisher stories between the Late 90s and early 2000s Deadpool being an overexposed character Bad Cartoon Adaptations (Ultimate Spider- Man, Avengers United We Stand, The Fantastic Four cartoon in the 70s, etc) Did I miss anything?!
Congrats Allen you used the SJW word which is the signal you are the dumbest fucking person in the comments. Collect your prize, being alone and sad for the rest of you life.
12. #MILKSHAKES! Heather Antos a young lady who edits "Gwenpool" (Even LOOKS LIKE HER...), went out for some milkshakes with her girls. The picture was placed on twitter, and one nobody verbally attacked her saying "You are ruining marvel! stop it!" or something. Antos threw a tantrum saying she was "Harrassed, and bullied online." When asked for comment or evidence by comic book news sources Antos would ignore them, or block them. Antos made things worse by saying that "men who were sexually assulted or attacked should shut up" in her own words(if that was a man...FIRED. But nope!) .
George Detective I think I would be a little more generous than that. I'd say Marvel was still mostly great through Joe Quesada's tenure and Avengers vs. X-men. Things definitely started to gradually degrade over time through Alonso's tenure but there was still a fair amount of quality material thanks to the many top tier writers that were still around for a while. I think personally it was 2014 was really when the early stages of rot truly started setting in and while there was plenty I didn't like, there was still plenty to love. It only became obvious to me how far they had fallen once All New, All Different Marvel came around in 2016 and when Secret Wars ended. That's when Marvel when on a persistent downward spiral ever since. Hopefully the removal of Alonso with Cebulski to replace him will be a catalyst for new change. You won't really see the full effects for about 6-9 months after Cebulski took the position of EIC though, which was only a month or two ago.
great video. good to see some in depth reporting. Looking into more "behind the scenes/real-life history/impact of comics" stories would be a nice series here on youtube
MoralEs. The "e" is not silent. *Mor-al-Ez.* And I wouldn't say he's so much of a controversy anymore, considering sooo many people get super excited any time he's mentioned. Like all the hopes he'll be in Spider-Man PS4.
"A lot of this outcry had a decidedly racist edge to it". Now, I understand that there are always going to be racists, but labelling critique of non-white characters as racism is, really, a little bit racist. Miles Morales is, in his own right, an interesting character. That doesn't mean, however, that he has to be Spider-Man. Remember when everyone lost their shit over the clone saga? That was a *white* replacement to Peter Parker. Similar controversy has come around every time any character has been changed, because people don't like change to classic characters. We can critique Miles Morales the same way we critique Ben Reilly, Bucky Barnes, Kamala Khan, Fem-Thor or any other character. The fact that he's black matters less to most people than the fact that he simply *isn't* the original Spider-Man. If we got a white Black Panther, would it be racist to complain? No. There are changes that make sense: X-23 becoming Wolverine, Shuri becoming Black Panther, Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson becoming Captain America. Then there are changes that don't, like Miles Morales and Fem-Thor. Critiquing them is to critique the change, not the identity of the character. The new Dr Who pisses me off. Not because she's a woman. But because of the way they did it. Steven Moffat introduced the ability for timelords to change gender into continuity in 2014, 5 decades after the series creation, and 45 years after the introduction of the species. So naturally, the obvious choice to give the series is to ret-con everything fans understood for half a century, and not, I don't know, just run a legacy storyline where the Doctor's Daughter returns and then takes over after the Doctor runs out of regenerations...
MC-Gamer Look, you can have your own valid reasons to dislike Miles as the new Spider-man, but even then you have to admit that a lot of the outcry WAS kind of racist. Same with the doctor. You can dislike them for your own reasons that are not racist/sexist, but that doesn't mean that everyone else has the same reasons when a lot of people were open and clear about their stupid reasons for hating the characters.
How does it not make sense though? Its not as if they completely rewrote the story to have Peter now be a young black child, and they didn't pull out a twist where it turns out Peter was actually a clone the whole time. They introduced a seperate character who also had Spider powers, like they do with almost every other Superhero, they took said established character who was already set as a younger Spider-Man, and had him take up the mantle as Spider-Man when Pete died. On a side note, the problem with the clone saga was because it was a terribly fucking written twist that introduced Ben Reilly, in a terribly written series of stories, that brought him really out of no where. Its hardly the same critique. Hell, people generally didn't mind Ben as Spider-Man from what I've gathered. It is, objectively, no different then Wally West taking up the mantle of The Flash after he was killed off. (Speaking of, if you want a real terrible change, his change in New 52 is that right there.) Also, for Dr.Who? You say 'Retconned' as if the Doctor had clearly established how his powers work in a way that means that the current season couldn't happen. Hell, you argue this in fucking Dr.Who which is almost entirely made up of *actual* Retcons to service the story since the fucking beginning. Fuck, the Doctor being able to *regenerate at all* is literally no different then what you're arguing right now, since it was only introduced as a way to extend the series life when they thought the original doctor couldnt keep doing it, and was never before established.
Miles gets a pass because there's a reason why he's there, peters dead. He's the batman beyond of the marvel universe. She-Thor....no. On the Doctor Who subject, it really conflicts me. The doctor can change into anything pretty much. That's the whole part of the show. It changes and remains fresh. I mean I don't see how the doctor would stay the same ethnicity or species for 12 consecutive regenerations. I don't know, there wasn't really a complete answer for if he could change genders so....I guess. I don't know. If they don't make a big fuss about him being a woman now I'll give it a pass.
@@Minx5892 Time lords being regenerated into the other sex was mentioned at least once in the series before, I THINK in regards to the master (and this was before the Missy thing, mind), so they did establish it a little while before they threw Missy into the mix. Though I cannot for the live of me remember which season, or even which doctor, that was.
I hate what they've done with comics recently. Instead of making interesting new characters with diverse backgrounds, they've simply killed off or changed existing characters to be sexually or ethnically different. Creativity and cannon is going down the tubes.
Pretty much everything is forgivable, except how they treated Kirby. He should have been loved and revered the way Stan Lee is today. It's sad he only achieved that posthumously.
what about their writers shitting on fans just because they don't like the direction they are going, or trying to bully critics around or the heavy handed left wing propaganda their current series are
What Guesada did to Spiderman was without a doubt the worst outrage in his run. Even the latest spiderman issues address "one more day" as a horrible decision. Spiderman has a moment with Loki in one recent issue saying some thing like " I cant shake the feeling that at some pointing I said yes to an offer like this from someone like you, and lost something important because of it" in the panel there is an image of spiderman with a flashback image of mephisto in the background. In all the most recent comics they keep referencing "one more day". I think the marvel writers are definitely leading up to something big, like a redo or a confrontation that'll undo the o"ne more day" event.
Why is it that Fox News is always perceived has having an agenda that they're always trying to push, yet CNN, NBC News (not to mention its cable counterparts), CBS News, and ABC News are the pinnacle of true, honest journalism?
I have no problem with marvel and dc making characters black and hispanic, I just don't see the need to change the original character if marvel wanted another black super hero then make one don't kill off the original.
Spencer DePriester not a sjw but he lives in New York i a poor neighborhood. Statistically make sense he is not white. Thats the point of the ultimate universe
Yes "My" favourite. I know its opinions. But I would still like to hear Whatcultures reason on why they didn't like it? Maybe make a 'Top 10 Reasons Why We Hate The Onslaught Saga' or something, I am just interested as to why they don't like it.
Smokeweed D Bear Obviously, you don’t pay attention. It wasn’t the Onslaught Saga that was the problem, it was the the Heroes Reborn debacle that immediately followed...
I know how you feel. I’ve got quite a few other terrible Marvel and DC stories that I wish I could just conveniently erase from my memory. Some of these are Sins Past, Trouble, Avengers #200, Secret Empire, All-Star Batman and Robin, Identity Crisis, Heroes in Crisis, Cry for Justice, along with some others 😒😔
@@yousefkaldany2779 I actually liked heroes in crisis and identity crisis I haven't read anything else you mentioned aside from all star batman and Robin and oh man that was horrid
You forgot the biggest controversy of them all: Marvel forcibly changing virtually all main characters to SJW variants, degrading and belittling the original heroes in the process (fascist Captain America, kill off Banner, Tony Stark becoming an AI and Thor becoming unworthy because, you know, he's a white male). In order to do so they hired SJW writers with 0 talent like Mags Visagio, who themselves seem to have a gigantic chip on their shoulder and are being racist and sexist towards white men ... because ... well, reasons. And for the final nail in the coffin they then blame fans to be racist because they don't follow Marvel in their madness. Biggest ... comic ... scandal .. EVER! This is why after 30 years of faithfully following, I stopped reading Marvel and went over to DC, who still think it's worth writing good stories.
Any wise author will tell you that diversity is not a story in and of itself, nor should story be changed or damaged purely to add diversity. Newer stories should have diversity, I agree, but diversity should never be a focus. Rather, the imperative should be to create a diverse cast of good characters that are deep, well written, and have good, relatable motives.
being a comic fan who actually wants diversity is so hard. everyone always says there's nothing wrong with it but in reality so many original and fresh ideas or even old ones who just never got the light of day get scrapped and cancelled. guess I'll stick to the ol white guy in tights formula and hope for the best
Personally I think ultimate end was the final nail in the coffin for the ultimate marvel universe which is sad because I liked ultimate marvel universe
Tevya Smolka I loved it at first, but the Ultimate Universe really went off the rails after that god awful Ultimatum event. They violently killed off a ton of popular characters for no real reason and the Ultimate Universe never really recovered after.
i can understand that and believe me i wasn't a fan of ultimatum either in fact the only reason ultimatum was that awful was mostly because jeph loab wrote that train wreck after his son passed away so yeah he was not in a good state of mind when he wrote that trainwreck
11. SJW MARVEL It started as replacing well-known characters with newer (or so) characters. Jane foster Thor, Atrimus Cho Hulk (AKA Bro-Hulk), X-23 Wolverine, etc. While this wasn't too bad( X-23 became wolverine in respect and admiration to Wolverine who taught her how to be a person and find herself...it's a long story..) the characters became soap-box characters screaming and shouting about "Social justice" and neo-feminism. Ms. Marvel was sucked into that malstrom, and Captain Marvel was starting to be drawn in every book as more man-ish, giving her the name "Carl Manverse.". The outcry was so bad, some books like "Black Panther and the crew" and Dan Slott's "Silver Surfer" were canned. The characters stopped being characters, and became "The FILL IN THE BLANK one", angering and alienating readers. More anger rose with replacing Iron Man with Riri Williams, a soapbox character that is very unliked and hated by fans, and "America" a character created by a SJW activist who was just hired because "Diversty". Marvel began to point fingers at fans outcries, calling them "racist", "Sexist", "Woman haters", and "Nazis". All that did was anger more readers. Many comic stores went under the sales at Marvel were so bad.
RedDragonM1 that should have been 1 or 2, or at least replace Joe Quesada's entry into the list with Axel Alonso and fill in all of the nonsense during his EIC tenure into that slot which would cover SJW Marvel altogether. Say what you want about Quesada. There were some doozies under his direction, but for every really bad moment there were than many more good to excellent moments wkth a whole lot of positive creativity throughout, even if some of it wasn't always as well executed as it could have been (Civil War, great story in concept and perfectly enjoyable, should have been handled a little differently). He brought Marvel Comics from the brink of creative irrelevancy, not to mention bringing it back from bankruptcy. For every goof Quesada had, Alonso ad ten times worse and ten times more.
Spider-man was a classic hero. Too many crossovers and writers and artists trying to put their own "spin" on him ruined him and a lot of other Marvel heroes. Clones indeed!!
God damn it why won’t one more day just go away because frankly I can’t take it anymore oh wait it won’t go away because Joe Quesada still has some power within marvel
Hey, Josh, you're doing great! After the departures, you're probably the best voice on this channel (apart from Jules). Great job man! Continue working that hard. Wish you the best!
booty2k no my friend, I know he is not the best but sadly all the rest have left. Ben, Peter, and few more quit last week and a few months ago all the wrestling guys also left. Almost everyone is out now. The only one that remains is Jules (and Simon but he is on the wrestling channel). Did you see the last video about spiderman? That was awful, really awful. Some of the new voices are really boring, at least this guy has some future and some potential. Let's give the guy an oportunity, it's just the beginning, he will do it better in the future, I believe :(
as someone who is hispanic, i can tell you miles morales is one of the most shallow things i seen in comics, give me peter parker back in the ultimate universe, i don't give a fuck about "progressive" BS, give me a character i want to read and not a publicity stunt.
8:19 Keep in mind the very next issue afterword saw her come back and slap every member of the Avengers for not doing anything but congratulating her during that event.
You got some details about Avengers #200 wrong. It wasn’t Immortus who captured her, it was Marcus himself whom nipped her out of time and space to his world and did some mild brainwashing. The pregnancy was Marcus’ way of coming into -her- this world with the intention of building a machine to permanize him there. And you said 3 days of intense labor. I think you mean 3 days of pregnancy since labor is the actual delivery and that particularly was actually painless for her because it was an unnatural one that was quite fast and Marcus didn’t want to hurt her.
Killing Captain America, Captain America was secretly in Hydra, Nick Fury's son Samuel L Jackson, Killing Wolverine, Killing Psylocke, bringing Psylocke back, killing {Professor X, Cyclops, X-Force, Riri Williams, Civil War 1, Civil War 2, Avengers vs Xmen, Utopia. The x-men uniforms after the films came out (i.e leather)
Alright. Make Black Panther anything BUT African. I BET YOU the same thing will happen like what happened to Spiderman. People saying why would you changed an established character.
Not even the same. Last time I checked, nerdy kids in Queens can be black too, as there are a lot of them. Spiderman/Peter Parker as a character was about a city kid with his ethnicity and race not being a big factor, while Black Panther was made to be black and african. These types of mental gymnastics to try and rationalize the folks that got angry about Miles Morales is pathetic. If Miles was white I'm sure a good amount of people would bitch and moan, probably as much as those who bitched when Bucky picked up the mantle of Captain America, but not as many than there actually are.
Lambeflores so now being racist and blaming whites people how typical Lol first of all peter was made in the 60s Secondly having a character around for 50 years or so and changing them just for race isn’t that kind of racist ??? Because the character isn’t good enough anymore If it’s a film and the person is truly the best actor yes but I have yet to see a white person take up an minority Role that doesn’t have the left screeching while if you criticize a minority taking another races Role (mostly whites) its racist This kind Of hypocrisy is sad
RaginDXDemon y'all still on this shit? Miles was well introduced and his story is on par/better than Peter's origin story in my opinion. He didn't replace the main universe's Peter and had his own villains and stories which separated him. You wanna complain about unnecessary race changes talk about Riri Williams. At least Amadeus Jane and Sam were all established and had some relevancy to the people they replaced (Tho Sam is probably the most justified)
Marvel doesn't care that people are upset by the PC race and gender alterations to characters. The comics barely matter in their net profit, it's all movies. Movie fans a lot of times don't know these characters or the comics, and many would love to see their culture represented. So if they establish storylines now with these replacements, and they introduce them in the films in a few years, then new fans have old comics to go read to get caught up and to legitamize the character, and get hyped for the movie. Then they can create spin off film series based on these characters that'll generate a lot more money.
The Loneliest Rocket He is, not saying these characters are bad, just focusing om how Marvel doesn't really care that the comic reading fans hate the new iterations of the characters
It's really sad to see that Jack Kirby was treated unfairly until the end of his life. That, and Marvel finally giving him credit after his death is like giving his family a slap to the face.
If they had a choice they would have kept quite
Would have helped if scumbag Stan Lee wasn't taking full credit for characters he had at best only partial involvement in creating.
Tao from what I've gathered, I've never heard of Stan Lee taking full credit for character, I've only ever heard him claim he's a cocreator
Kyle Pietrusiewicz me too
Companies like Marvel only acknowledge folk like Jack Kirby once they are dead.
That way they don't have to pay them anything.
They left off a few head exploding Spider-Man controversies. Like Aunt May actually being his mom after his father cheated with her and she gave birth to Peter..... or the radioactive sperm thing....
B.R. Smith we don't talk about those
Yea it's like Marvel have been trying to destroy their flagship super hero.
B.R. Smith or whether he killed gwen or not with the Web when she fell
SAY WHAT!!!...
Telvanni Spellslinger
They have.
What they did to Jack Kirby was just terrible
Totally agree, One of the best and this was his reward.
The real nightmare is that it's not just him. Multiple other artists like Steve Ditko are still owed their due.
I know and I agree.
Horrible to say the least
It's a shame what happened to Jack Kirby and Bill Finger too
And Steve Ditko .
^this guy gets it
^this guy doesn’t
^I still don't get it
Vigilante 4 Hire Jack Kirby created most of the Marvel heroes we love today and got screwed over by Marvel.
I really bad choice haha
Its like the old parker luck is trying to destroy spiderman rather than make life tougher for him.....
Well it is hated by a majority of the people. and one man’s opinion where he should be shoved a knife up their urethra. Along with doc oct to take over spidey mind. We need a reboot on that timeline
And you're here too...
NOTHING'S CHANGED!!!!!!!!
hey its "'the darkseed" guy
Lol ripping off the comic book covers didn't work at all. I'm a fan of both Marvel and DC, But it's clear to see that Marvel's Fear Itself and Siege are no where near as popular or iconic as DC's Blackest Night and Flashpoint events.
I would think Siege is more widely recognized than Blackest Night, though not Fear Itself. Flashpoint trumps them all, however.
Outside opinion from somebody who doesn't read comics(although I do read manga):
I've literally never heard of Seige or Fear Itself, but I have heard of Blackest Night and Flashpoint.
Miles Morales honestly is such a charismatic and adorable character. It annoys me when people refer to him as a “Boring Black Spider-Man”🙄
But it’s facts though?
That they're racist? Yes.
Same
@@darthbilbo Ah yes, not liking a black character = Racism. Love that leap.
@@celestialsoldier622 Not liking a character because they are black is racism, yes. :)
The MAX series is a good decision. Especially for characters like Punisher. I would like more story lines for adult/mature fans.
More Like Hydra Spider Man To Me, These Storylines Are The Absolute Worst Comic Books EVER!!!!!
Where's the diversity??"
It's just catering to the current demographic.
William Bochat
“Childhood hero” it was the Ultimate Peter Parker. Not the one that everyone grew up with.
Boi STFU
The most striking controversy had to be the hank pym abuse. I’m not a big fan of the character so forgive me for not having a good hard hitting joke for his other wives but I gotta say that’s the first time I’ve seen the wasp get swatted.
I-CON.
MORE- AL- EZ.
Agreed
Styles Bitchley I feel I’m qualified to verify your comment, I also agree
Well yeah, duh.
Thank you! You would think Whatcultures new comics editor would know these very simple things.
Kinda hard for them to call racism if they don't even bother to learn how to pronounce a non-Anglican surname.
Lmaoo the fact that he knows miles is black and hispanic and he said his last name like morals than Morales which is spanish is hilarious to me
idc what anyone says, the punisher MAX comics are badass
soundsfromthestreet agreed
3:35 you were talking about the new 52 while showing a cover of the "52" series, a totally different thing that happened 6 years before the new 52
They can take away his art, they can take away his money, but one thing that they can never take away, is that Jack Kirby will always be the king of comics
The ultimate comics is definitely not a bad idea, it was sooooooo great
Neither is miles Morales
He's my fav spiderman and he's fucking great
What they did to Jack Kirby was unforgivable. So much that it makes one question their fan status
How hard is it to Google the characters and learn to pronounce their names correctly?
Jeremy Higgins
This guy has more problems with speaking English.
Like:
Year = jurr
Sure = shoe-arr
Stfu Jeremy
Most black heroes hardly get books.
Lost Age Comics um Black Panther, Static Shock, Cyborg, U.S. War Machine, John Stewart's duration as the Green Lantern, Falcon, the list goes on.
Marvel: Hey lets make Cpt.America a Nazi
DC: I think its about time our poster boys should settled down. Batman's proposal and classic Superman with a family (main univesre)
Marvel: Let's write our comics as if they were meant for movies.
Uncanny Avengers over dc
Marvel: Hey guys how about another Captain Marvel series?
The Ultimate Universe was Amazing
Regarding number 5, I work at a comic store and I can confirm this is true. The shop I work at did rip those covers off and we were able to sell the exclusive variants
He keeps pronouncing Miles Morales’ last name wrong, but good video nonetheless
the most common argument I've seen about more prominent minority/female characters is that they don't have their own identities, that they are just replacing popular established heroes for the sake of diversity.
You know the stange thing? It only happens in the US. I wonder why ...
Clone Saga, Norman Osborn coming back to life and the all out lie when they said, 'One Will Die, Forever, For Good.', So when they killed off Aunt May, she wasn't the real Aunt may but and actress playing Aunt May.
Don’t rip the MAX Imprint, Garth Ennis’ Punisher MAX run is the best the character has ever seen
Captain America being Hydra in secret empire was one of the most controversial storyline ever
Nicholas Goodchild He did not write the original article he is paid to turn it into a video
Curu82 there was lol but the majority of those bad ones compared to the modern day ones make even the clone saga look good and this is coming from someone who is 17
Worst thing Marvel did was team Spider-Man up with Planned Parenthood.
''They realized they wouldn't be making billions on constant issue 1s with shiny covers''
Where have I seen this before...? Oh yeah, present day Marvel, cashing in on issue 1s every 6 months and unlikeable, preachy, unrelatable characters with horrible story writing because progressivism is the new marketing strategy these days, even though most of the people employing these strategies couldn't give less of a damn about the issues of normal, everyday people. I can only hope Bendis doesn't spread his cancer to DC.
well it's a good thing they've dropped that and have given all the comics their proper numbering.
TheWhiteKnight damn, there must’ve been some repressed spite for the change
Strange or the new Captain America book.
guess they can't win with poeple like you.
angrybrony no, they can't
What no mention of the subsequent Superior Spiderman line where Doc Oct takes over Peter's body and proceeds to take out the Kingpin's empire. And several of Spiders old villains and before Robin can say "holy big brother Batman", he releases a bunch of Spider drones all over the city to keep track of crime so he wouldn't have to constantly patrol the city...OK..OK now that I recapped it it does sound pretty cool.
Jack Kirby= A marvelous legend
miles morals was a great idea, until they decided to keep sticking him in with other ultimate story lines to prop up books that should have been canceled years ago, and then they brought him over the the 616 universe which honestly felt like taking away the importance of his origin
Brian O'Neil wasn’t miles a new character?
So this Carl guy is the reason we have Fant4stic, a Spidey with a ticking clock on his time in the MCU and probably other bullshit?
First it's Miles MORE-RAL-EZ ,not Morals, and 2 he's a fan favorite and most people actually love this version
YES, said It all!
Morales was a great addition to the Ultimate Universe and he really has charisma.
Tony I thought everyone loved Miles too. I was confused by that kone as I've never heard anything bad about him. Oh and that new animated movie staring him as Spidey is goikmg to be amazing.
Klufh It's because he's black and the peter parker spider-man is around.
Whatculture Comics is done by people that don't care or don't like comics. Most of their videos were essentially rip offs of articles I read on Cracked.com 7+ years ago.
John Man no it's mainly because he's a unoriginal racial pallet swap of Peter Parker
I was hoping we'd get a Superior Octopus as well.
Seeing what he was up to post secret Empire
Nerwrax15 totally agree. It was superior
Nerwrax15 Doc Ock may have killed Peter Parker, but no one has made him wish he were dead like the Green Goblin (still love Superior Spider-Man though).
I LOVED the Superior Spiderman story arch.
I think Superior Spiderman was AWSOME ! Spidey with an edge !
And now they know why X-Men Phoenix bombed.
Let’s see:
Chuck Austin’s run on the X-Men
The Fantastic Four being cancelled because of bad movie deals
Most Punisher stories between the Late 90s and early 2000s
Deadpool being an overexposed character
Bad Cartoon Adaptations (Ultimate Spider- Man, Avengers United We Stand, The Fantastic Four cartoon in the 70s, etc)
Did I miss anything?!
Wilfredo Rosario Don't forget when Marvel became a hot spot for SJWs in comics.
Congrats Allen you used the SJW word which is the signal you are the dumbest fucking person in the comments. Collect your prize, being alone and sad for the rest of you life.
Ben Lasher bad day?
Hey deadpool is fine don't put him on the level of the actual controversies.
Ben Lasher If you believe that, then f#$% the both of us, but mostly you, a$$hat.
Joe Quesada also has a bizarre “DC vs Marvel” mentality that never really existed but insists was “a thing”
RedDragonM1 yep, Some of the stupid nonsense of the last 2 years should most definitely make this list...
Heck I would replace Joe Quesada witj Adel Alonso on this list, yes, in spite of Quesada's role in the worst Soider-man story ever...
Those first 2 runs of ultimates and ultimate Spidey forever were so damn good
It funny how they didn't brought up marvel legacy and secret empire.
FutureZoologist Or Civil War 2
Slow Vacation Thank You
George Detective I think I would be a little more generous than that.
Civil War was shit, period.
great video. good to see some in depth reporting. Looking into more "behind the scenes/real-life history/impact of comics" stories would be a nice series here on youtube
MoralEs. The "e" is not silent. *Mor-al-Ez.*
And I wouldn't say he's so much of a controversy anymore, considering sooo many people get super excited any time he's mentioned. Like all the hopes he'll be in Spider-Man PS4.
Kudos to whoever used the clip from Bo Selcta. Haven't thought about that show for a while.
MC-Gamer
Look, you can have your own valid reasons to dislike Miles as the new Spider-man, but even then you have to admit that a lot of the outcry WAS kind of racist. Same with the doctor.
You can dislike them for your own reasons that are not racist/sexist, but that doesn't mean that everyone else has the same reasons when a lot of people were open and clear about their stupid reasons for hating the characters.
BILL CIPHER so what were some of the arguments against Miles that you perceived as racist? Just curious
(Speaking of, if you want a real terrible change, his change in New 52 is that right there.)
Also, for Dr.Who?
Marvel is the Activision Blizzard of comics.
Heroes Reborn was fun and awesome. It also led to the even better Heroes Return era.
I get it but why redo spiderman make miles his own new character.
You can add the ”Children of the Atom” and the new New Warriors comic to the list.
"During the best forgotten Onslaught crossover"
.....oh boy.....this will be fun =_=
Onslaught was slow smoldering burn that was literally years in the making… the fuse lit during Fatal Attraction a few years prior
I dont mind Miles. Just don't kill Peter. Give others what they want without taking away with most of us grew up with.
can we get a dc Controversies list now?
We do. For quite a while now.
They already did...
Dc will make marvel looks like a juvy. Dc is awful.
Feliciano Russell To each their own. I find the recent Marvel comics unreadable.
Feliciano Russell Read a Comic
Assassin Spider-Man...Mates Peter replaces his web-shooter with guns...That has to be mention next time
If Whatculture does a list like this for DC, we all know what’s going to be number 1...
*Hint: it involves Batman and Bob Kane*
They already did that with DC, and I don't think that was even on that list. Give it a watch, just in case.
The BiG CAM Bill Motherfucking Finger! Owoooooi!
The BiG CAM They already did that, and that wasn't number one.
Shows Dc's 52 weekly series when Speaking of The New 52 reboot initiative
*Clap* *Clap* "Good Job Editor for keeping track of all the details!"
WhatCulture = the new buzzfeed
I actually quite liked Superior Spiderman. It was an interesting take on Doc Oc.
What do you guys have against the Onslaught Saga? It's one of my favourite Crossovers personally
Smokeweed D Bear I like it because it showcases one of Hulks coolest feats.
One of YOUR favourites
Yes "My" favourite. I know its opinions. But I would still like to hear Whatcultures reason on why they didn't like it? Maybe make a 'Top 10 Reasons Why We Hate The Onslaught Saga' or something, I am just interested as to why they don't like it.
Smokeweed D Bear Obviously, you don’t pay attention. It wasn’t the Onslaught Saga that was the problem, it was the the Heroes Reborn debacle that immediately followed...
Superior Spider-Man is dope af.
Miles Morals lol
Drake pendragon he doesn't really resemble Peter Parker at all
Lmao fucking morons
I see a jackass in the comments
Scooter McGavin stfu nobody
@@saint198 okay?? That's The point
Ya know I bought one more day. Thinking "this cant be as bad as everyone says it is"
Good God I wish I could erase that comic from my memory
I know how you feel. I’ve got quite a few other terrible Marvel and DC stories that I wish I could just conveniently erase from my memory. Some of these are Sins Past, Trouble, Avengers #200, Secret Empire, All-Star Batman and Robin, Identity Crisis, Heroes in Crisis, Cry for Justice, along with some others 😒😔
@@yousefkaldany2779 I actually liked heroes in crisis and identity crisis
I haven't read anything else you mentioned aside from all star batman and Robin and oh man that was horrid
@@thedarkknightdetective2559 Yeah, I know
You forgot the biggest controversy of them all: Marvel forcibly changing virtually all main characters to SJW variants, degrading and belittling the original heroes in the process (fascist Captain America, kill off Banner, Tony Stark becoming an AI and Thor becoming unworthy because, you know, he's a white male).
Wim Vermont god forbid there be diversity in newer stories
Freddie Thompson If you want diversity, make diverse characters. Don't force shitty agendas and bad writing in an attempt to make it "diverse."
Yea but whatculture would never say that. I’ve noticed they have taken a left leaning edge as of late.
being a comic fan who actually wants diversity is so hard. everyone always says there's nothing wrong with it but in reality so many original and fresh ideas or even old ones who just never got the light of day get scrapped and cancelled. guess I'll stick to the ol white guy in tights formula and hope for the best
the Ultimate universe is amazing, very dramatic y violent, if you die there there is no bullshit magic comeback
Personally I think ultimate end was the final nail in the coffin for the ultimate marvel universe which is sad because I liked ultimate marvel universe
Trash writers tryin to bait readers
Tevya Smolka I loved it at first, but the Ultimate Universe really went off the rails after that god awful Ultimatum event. They violently killed off a ton of popular characters for no real reason and the Ultimate Universe never really recovered after.
i can understand that and believe me i wasn't a fan of ultimatum either in fact the only reason ultimatum was that awful was mostly because jeph loab wrote that train wreck after his son passed away so yeah he was not in a good state of mind when he wrote that trainwreck
Tevya Smolka Same here.
I know it’s a minor detail, but 52 and The New 52 are different things.
Let's not forget to throw in gay Iceman for the sake of diversity in there.
I don't mind Miles Morales he just needs a different name other than Spider-Man that just sticks to him
why?
Marvel is shady AF
Spider-man was a classic hero. Too many crossovers and writers and artists trying to put their own "spin" on him ruined him and a lot of other Marvel heroes. Clones indeed!!
God damn it why won’t one more day just go away because frankly I can’t take it anymore oh wait it won’t go away because Joe Quesada still has some power within marvel
Tevya Smolka Joe Quesada reminds me of Dan Dido from DC comics *WHO* was the one that created the New 52. I hope Quesada gets fired.
i hope so too but i doubt it
Hey, Josh, you're doing great! After the departures, you're probably the best voice on this channel (apart from Jules). Great job man! Continue working that hard. Wish you the best!
You are funny. This was sarcasm right? :/
booty2k no my friend, I know he is not the best but sadly all the rest have left. Let's give the guy an oportunity, it's just the beginning, he will do it better in the future, I believe :(
as someone who is hispanic, i can tell you miles morales is one of the most shallow things i seen in comics, give me peter parker back in the ultimate universe, i don't give a fuck about "progressive" BS, give me a character i want to read and not a publicity stunt.
slifer875 did you forgets white tiger?
slifer875 but the ultimate universe, is gone, most likely for good
In my opinion I find Miles really fleshed out and interesting but someone like Ironheart for example I feel is a publicity stunt
8:19 Keep in mind the very next issue afterword saw her come back and slap every member of the Avengers for not doing anything but congratulating her during that event.
Don't mind me I'm just here for the butthurt comments.
Sebastien-Loik Ntsangou-Kanda no ones butthurt other then a few sjws
Jack Of Blades
I don't know, i see a lot of people crying over "The evil SJWS!" more than anything.
People saying why would you changed an established character.
shogun harlem It is a necessity. He is a white nerdy kid from Queens named Peter Parker. He was not born Spiderman.
Lambeflores so now being racist and blaming whites people how typical
Lol first of all peter was made in the 60s
Secondly having a character around for 50 years or so and changing them just for race isn’t that kind of racist ???
Because the character isn’t good enough anymore
If it’s a film and the person is truly the best actor yes but I have yet to see a white person take up an minority
Role that doesn’t have the left screeching while if you criticize a minority taking another races
Role (mostly whites) its racist
This kind
Of hypocrisy is sad
Drake pendragon no sjws only care about race lol
They’re the racists
In reality people don’t like bad characters and Aren’t racist
RaginDXDemon y'all still on this shit? Miles was well introduced and his story is on par/better than Peter's origin story in my opinion. He didn't replace the main universe's Peter and had his own villains and stories which separated him. You wanna complain about unnecessary race changes talk about Riri Williams. At least Amadeus Jane and Sam were all established and had some relevancy to the people they replaced (Tho Sam is probably the most justified)
This whole video feels like anything good written by marvel in the last 15 years was a controversary
You guys should do who would win marvel and dc. Look into stats and discuss plz

I miss Letter's to the Editor pages in comics. SAD!
Crazelord91
Wait. Are you talking about Miles Morales. Miles Morales is awesome!
The Loneliest Rocket He is, not saying these characters are bad, just focusing om how Marvel doesn't really care that the comic reading fans hate the new iterations of the characters
