"This is a Pendulum Monster. It might look scary, but in actual fact, it's just like any other card" except it's almost totally different and plays with different rules.
When pendulums first came out the fact that both scales on them were the same number had me thinking eventually some were to be released that changed their scale depending on what side you put them on.
Honestly I think that should have been a thing from the start. Like whichever is pointing inward is the number you use. This way you could have different scales without the need for so many monsters.
Same. I feel they were on the way to getting but people hated MR3 with MR4 being universally hated for giving all of the power to one summon type which Komoney literally just finished doing. I did feel like they would get some advanced mechanic/alt mechanic much like Contact Fusion, OLAS, Rank Up Magic or even just expanding the pool of pendulum cards like have more generic 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 0 scales. I too thought they would get something like depending on if they're the left most scale you used that number and the right most scale you use the other number. Or unironically another Pendulum or now (another available S/T zone you can place a pendulum monster) as a way to force the opponent to spend more resources to stop your P Summon. I dunno something like a Delta Pendulum Scale. Example say you have a scale of 1 -9. Say there's an additional space and you place a 4 scale. So now you can do 1-9 OR you can do 2 and 3 OR 5, 6, 7, and 8.
Minor correction on the Pendulum Xyz thing: They'll have an effect that specifies that they can be Pendulum Summoned if the scales are appropriate. Otherwise, they can't be Pendulum Summoned at all.
I kinda wished that they revise the rules for Pendulum Summoning concerning Xyz Pendulum monsters. They should make it so that when you're able to Pendulum Summon, you can have access to both Levels and Ranks within those scales, since Xyz Pendulum monsters are impossible to bring out without needing to Xyz Summon them first, and the "If you can Pendulum Summon Level n, you can Pendulum Summon this face-up card in your Extra Deck." kinda denses up the card text... Xyz Pendulums and other Extra Deck Pendulums already have their card text filled with "If this card in the Monster Zone is destroyed: You can place it in your Pendulum Zone." and even that takes up too much space
Just coming back to the game, this is exactly what I needed! Fell off shortly after synchro and got a handle on the xyz and link types, but this was always a headache. Thanks man

Update regarding pendulum monsters in the extra deck and extra monster zones: as of Master Rule 5, this no longer applies. You can summon Fusion, Synchro, Xyz and Pendulum monsters from your extra deck to any monster zone again, PLUS the extra monster zones. The restriction only applies to link monsters now, and the extra monster zones only now exist to facilitate link monsters. Do note that if you summon anything to an extra monster zone, you cannot summon to the other extra monster zone unless you have a chain of link monsters that point to that zone. Honestly, I kinda wish that they kept that restriction _specifically_ for pendulum monsters. The thing with pendulum monsters is that they can basically just come back every turn as long as the pendulum scale is intact. Forcing them to rely on links heavily restricts the amount of monsters that can be brought back each turn.
PEND BEST DECK BABY LETS GOOOO!!, “Yo! I got banned from events, and here's how it went down. I did nothing wrong, man! I did nothing wrong whatsoever! I got banned! I didn't even KNOW I got banned!”
yeah, this is why i stopped playing after XYZ era, the new mechanics with Pendulum and Link monsters just stray too far from what yugioh originally was IMO. And it hurts my brain trying to remember all the newer mechanics. But to each there own! :)
No, ya cannot attempt to fusion summon a Fusion Pendulum monster if it was sent to Extra Deck Face-Up, ya have to either pendulum summon it (if the monster in question allows it that is) or cheat it out from there using an effect that special summons an Extra Deck monster such as Waking The Dragon for example
I feel like I have to come back to this video every week to remember how things work but I also feel that I’m ever so slowly learning how to play properly XD thanks so much for the video
The invention of pendulum, as a mechanic in the anime, is exactly like that obnoxious kid no one wants to play with because they invent new powers so they can't lose. It just feels exactly like that. "Nyeeeh~ you can't win because I am invulnerable to fire!" -But... you were invulnerable to ice five minutes ago... "But now I am to fire, nyeeeh~ I win!"
Note: if a card such as Dimensional Fissure or Macro Cosmos is in effect, they overwrite the built in pendulum monster effect of being sent to the extra deck. This makes them especially vulnerable to graveyard hate. Dimensional Shifter, Kyubi Shenshen, and Masked HERO Dark Law are all capable of doing the same. Pendulum Monsters are sent to the GY as monsters, hence why Dimensional Fissure still works, even when the card was sent to the GY from the pendulum zone.
For a while I was confused about pendulums being used as overlay units for Xyz's monsters. For a long time I thought that being attached to a Xyz monster counted as being on the field thus going to the extra deck when detached. Now I know all the conditions for pendulums going to the GY. discarded from hand. detached from an Xyz monster. summon negated. sent to the GY from deck.
You saved me. I've been playing duel links and while having no problems with other summons like Synchro or Numbers thanks to watching the anime, Pendulum summoning destroyed my pea brain lol

Please do the D/D/D archetype. I love hearing your voice explain yugioh stuff especially when it comes to lore
Yeah I used your videos as teaching tool so continue making them honest your videos have been a massive help to teaching me and my friends so thank you
Fun fact you may not know, but cards with Macro Cosmos like effects *do* affect Pendulum Monsters and will be banished instead of going to the Extra Deck face up
Found this out the other day by playing Dark Law against a pend deck only to see all the monster used for a link summon be banished instead of going to the extra deck
Thnx for this TGS Anime, I wondering about pendulum monsters and the extra deck. You explained everything very clearly and I finally understand the mechanics of pendulum summoning!
i coulda sworn ive watched this some time ago cause i already learnt how to pendulum summon cause you taught me
That's ought to be "An Idiot's Guide to Summoning" video.
@@sliferslacker118 i think it is
Dude this video is amazing! Thanks for explaining it they way you did. I am a old-school yugioh player trying to understand all this new stuff and this helped out a ton!
Man... I'm 31 years old, and I'm really lost on Pendulum and Links... XYZ was where it was at for me... I'm over here watching this to understand the rules of it and I'm still lost like man... it's hard to memorize them all... I guess I'll watch this over and over to understand it lol since I still collect to this day...
Progression of what game actually was to current is just insane.
Holy shit I needed this, trying to figure out how to implement them into some custom deck concepts since I heard they were fun to use
They were before links nerfed them
Still playable but the decks have to be built around them, cant just splash them into any ranfom deck
@@sdbzfan1 you couldnt splash them into any deck back then either.
@@servetugur7192 you underestimate us casuals
This such a well made guide!! I've been looking it up multiple time ever since the new master rule was implemented to understand what's different now from the Anime show
Pendulum monsters can also be banished and bounced/spun to the hand/deck. Extra Deck monster (Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz) are returned faces down to the Extra Deck if bounced/spun.
Do you know what is an Overscale Pendulum and a Transcendent Pendulum?
@@SonySlasher2468 I looked it up. They're something from the Arc-V manga.
@@epicponedge1177 So you don't know what they are?
@@SonySlasher2468 Overscale lets you Pend Summon a monster whose scales are higher than the monsters level and Transcendent lets you Pend Summon a monster whose scales are higher than the monsters level. Overscale is used for Odd-Eyes Phantasma Dragon and Transcendent for D/D/D/D Super-Dimensional Sovereign Emperor Zero Paradox.
@@SonySlasher2468 they are manga exclusive things. overscale pendulum is when you pendulum summon a monster regardless of your scales (only manga version of odd eyes phantasma dragon can be overscale pendulum summoned) and i cant explain transcendent pendulum because its too fuckin complicated. search transcendent if you want to.
thank you so much! I really appreciate the simple and easy to understand intro! just trying to get back into this game 🙏🏼
Who thought this was a good idea? 🤣 makes pot of greed look like a Saint compared to all this extra unlimited summoning
Ohdo Yuga: That's a great idea. Lets make it so that players can normal summon as much as they want.
Thank you! This was giving me a headache in duel links 😂
I wish there was a Continuous Spell that lifted the Master Rule 4 restriction on Pendulum Summoning from the Extra Deck. I think it’s a fair trade, you only get 2 free S/T Zones, but you increase your Pendulum Summoning capabilities.
In Duel Links, this is actually a character Skill for anyone in Arc-V basically
… granted this passive skill does have a few snags so read carefully, and some skills unique to them don’t always allow MR3 style Pendulums
@@kitelanford
Is there? I was aware of the Skills that add Pendulum Zones, but I don’t know of any that allow for unlimited Pendulum Summoning from the Extra Deck. Never managed to summon more that 1 monster from face-up in the Extra Deck in a single Pendulum Summon.
@@jasperjavillo686 Oh yea that's diffrent, still have to have enough room in Main monster Zone, but yea have to be careful with passives and deck building so...
Thank you so much for explaining this as simple as possible despite it still being a very convoluted summoning system. Its easy enough to learn its just the extensive related mechanics begin to start causing a headache.
I really really want those pendulum cards, id love to make a start on a supreme king zarc deck 😄
That would be hard because one of the cards that facilities his summoning is banned
It is actually pretty easy

Can you link a source? I’m not finding any rule Change
Can you do a performapal or deskbot archetype.
I love your videos
As a new yugioh player this series helped so much , especially this video as I’m only on 5ds in the anime so far
Would be interesting to see a Ritual pendulum and a Link pemdulum in the future.
Ritual is possible but link will be hard because of no level
@@akmalfakhruddin7285 They could get away with it the same way that they made XYZ Pendulums.
Years ago I thought I could just run away from pendulums and links, and anything after xyz. But here I am, it all came back to you
PEND BEST DECK BABY LETS GOOOO!!, “Yo! I got banned from events, and here's how it went down. I did nothing wrong, man! I did nothing wrong whatsoever! I got banned! I didn't even KNOW I got banned!”
Sheeesh, between pendulum, Synchro, XYZ and link summoning this stuff is getting a little crazy lol I missed the simplicity of the original Yu-Gi-Oh
yeah, this is why i stopped playing after XYZ era, the new mechanics with Pendulum and Link monsters just stray too far from what yugioh originally was IMO. And it hurts my brain trying to remember all the newer mechanics. But to each there own! :)
Came back to the game after about 10 years and found this super helpful. Ty 👌
Pendulums are one of my favorite mechanics in recent yugioh. with Synchro and Xyz being in second place. its just fun to use.
Thank you! Trying to get back to Yugioh with your videos. ❤
5:37 will you be able to fusion summon it after going back face up to the extra deck or it can only be pendulum summoned
No, ya cannot attempt to fusion summon a Fusion Pendulum monster if it was sent to Extra Deck Face-Up, ya have to either pendulum summon it (if the monster in question allows it that is) or cheat it out from there using an effect that special summons an Extra Deck monster such as Waking The Dragon for example
after it's summoned and get's destroyed you can pendulum summon it back without having to fusion again.
"Nyeeeh~ you can't win because I am invulnerable to fire!"
-But... you were invulnerable to ice five minutes ago...
"But now I am to fire, nyeeeh~ I win!"
Oh my god you made an updated video! New players like myself needed this so bad!!
Swing Pendulum of my soul, draw an arc of light across the aether, Pedulum Summon! come forth my monster servants!.
You did this for Duel link. Thanks you
Man, I miss the days when you could summon more than 1 of them from the extra deck without link monsters😤🙁😓
Pendulum Monsters are sent to the GY as monsters, hence why Dimensional Fissure still works, even when the card was sent to the GY from the pendulum zone.

wow this video made me realize how much I miss old Yu Gi Oh
You can still play yugioh without pendulums tho
For a while I was confused about pendulums being used as overlay units for Xyz's monsters. For a long time I thought that being attached to a Xyz monster counted as being on the field thus going to the extra deck when detached. Now I know all the conditions for pendulums going to the GY.
discarded from hand.
detached from an Xyz monster.
summon negated.
sent to the GY from deck.
Seeing unsleeved cards hurts my soul... :o
You saved me. I've been playing duel links and while having no problems with other summons like Synchro or Numbers thanks to watching the anime, Pendulum summoning destroyed my pea brain lol
I started playing Master Duel last summer and completely avoided pendulum monsters because I didn't understand them. Recently put together a Predap deck and it's fun, but I didn't really understand what the scales did until I watched this, so thanks lol
Omg this is so crazy now. Im kinda getting into Yu-gi-oh again after not playing for a bout 10 years and there is so much crazy shit you can do now lol.
Pendulum summoning monsters must've been revolutionary and frustrating when it came out
"Did you just summon bunch of mosnters in one turn?"
"Yeah so?"
"That's against the rules isn't it?"
"Actually no it's called Pendulum summon"
"The what?"
Pendulum summoning is a very useful ability deserves recognition maybe exceed something should give second look and studied more on
As someone just coming back into the game this was very helpful. A video on some of the other mechanics would be great since when I left fusions and rituals where pretty much the only ones. 😂
Pretty sure you can't pendulum summon monster based on rank under normal circumstances meaning xyz monsters cannot be pendulum summoned under normal circumstances.
pendulum cards to new players: be not afraid
Wow THANK YOU! I know nothing about Yu-Gi-Oh and atarted Mester Duel and this is SO helpful!
Thanks for the video, answers so many questions/issues I had!
Ok this just made me interested in learning pendulum mechanics. Since coming back to YGO from Gx era, I couldn't find a deck that I am interested in. That is until now.
This is a much better explanation than my friend gave thank you dude
Gotta love to see Triff Summon
PEND BEST DECK LET'S GOOOO
Huh, didn't know pendulum monsters can't be placed face down or forced face down
I was watching the first episode, and when he does it, it's really spectacular
I've seen few of your contents and they are so entertaining. today I decided to hit the subscribe button. You've earned another subscriber. Keep up the great contents
It would be great to have a video like this for XYZ summons and Link summons. I know the basics for xyz and pendulum but I have no understanding of Links.
As far as I’m concerned my last Yugioh series was 5Ds, the last cards I bought were also a few synchros. I haven’t gotten any of the new xyz, pendulum, or link monsters.
I really want to get back into collecting them but it’ll cost a fortune.
1 Comes back to duel links after 3 years 2 sees pendulum summon
3 is very confused then is recommended this video
Thank you for the vid!
A simple but effective guide, great video!
odd eyes pendulum dragon is just so cute looking, i love him so much... but i don't have it as a card bruh
I got top Plat in Master Duels without barely any knowledge on Pendulum monsters. I had to read every one sadly but after running a Lunalight deck that had the 2 easiest pendulum monsters, here I am watching to this video to make a full pendulum deck.
Thank you. I hate pendulums, and im still not sure if i like them or not, but the mechanics are interesting i will admit. I recently started playing pendulums in master duel to farm for a deck i truly want to play and i thought i could learn the mechanics by just playing and there were some situations i just absolutely did not know why i could not do something i was sure i could do. This video cleared up all of that. Thanks for the video.
This is so convenient ! I woke up today wanting to play pendulum magicians but I had to learn pendulum summoning first 😅
just a piece of advice : just knowing how the pendulum mechanic works won't help ya with playing Pendulum Magician as it is a heavily combo oriented deck
I was trying so hard to understand wtf I was doing with the pendulum tutorial on Master Duels with the only explanations they gave, but thanks to this video I can finally understand it better.
But to be fair, that mechanic is absolutely broken strong and complex, Idk what to feel about it...
I may alreafy know how the mechanic works, but this vid was a fun watch regardless, good job!
I like your funny words magic man
Great guide, congrats and thanks! Such a clunky, cluttered mechanism
Helps me understand them abit better, I haven't played since GX so I was very confused as to what they did
Anybody else miss the days when Fusion/Ritual summoning was considered the pinnacle of powerful monsters?
Nah. Early days of yugioh meta deck are summoned skull beatdown
But right now ritual archetypes that is good now is Drytron
@@akmalfakhruddin7285 I'm trying to say I miss the days where you couldn't summon an entire field of 3k+ attack monsters on your first turn....
@@zNEKOMARUz But at least now you have outs to cards like those, back then you had FTK's and degenerate things plus main source of winning were 30 main deck staples.
You forgot the main tip... If a macro is on the field pendulums or banished instead of going to the extra deck
As my knowledge of the game extends as far as the end of the original anime , I hope you do go back and do more of these for things like XYZ and synchro
As someone who has never played Yugioh, I find this to be very cool and want to build some pendulum stuff.
Thank you so much for this. For the longest time I've avoided Pendulum monsters cuz I just could not bring myself to learn them.
It's not as hard as it seems plus it's a fun mechanic.
I actually love them
I like the pendulum summing because of the mystical aspect of izanami and izanagi the east and west god's of Japanese mythology it's a fun little bit of fact to point out were the pendulum card's are placed in the pendulum zone
Perfect just what I need... for a friend ; )
This video is so extremely helpful. Thank you so much!
Well this was a nice explaination, gonna try some pendulum decks now
