- Ferrara, a 127-year-old bakery, is a Little Italy destination and one of the last surviving pastry shops in the neighborhood. It’s famous for pastries such as cannoli, tri-color cookies, and tiramisu. But around November and December, its most coveted dessert turns to struffoli, a Neapolitan holiday dessert. Insider’s Taryn Varricchio headed to Ferrara to learn why customers choose this shop’s struffoli over other Italian pastry shops in the city.

127-Year-Old Italian Bakery Makes The Best Struffoli In NYC | Legendary Eats
Nothing makes me happier than seeing 100 year old restaurants and bakeries still thriving to this day. It's like a piece of history still living with us to see. 😀
Rockstar Eater yea a piece of history the look like chick peas and sugar syrup
LMFAO I thought they put sugar syrup on chickpeas and I was like wtf
Same, but also then like,
I wanna try that...
Maisha Zui same!!
Lol I never judge food based on appearance.
I mean.. If it still looks edible, then it's okay with me.
Chickpeas with sugar syrup? It's okay for me. But I need to eat that first to judge the taste.
Another example of weird thing is.. instant fried noodle with condensed milk. It seems weird, right? But it turn out to be good when I eat it.
What is so special about chickpeas, I thought 😅
Still, that sounds great. I'd eat it! =) =)
I initially thought it was chickpeas.
I love this kind of old world mom and pop classic taken to the limits of perfection! If they've been doing it 127 years, you know they know how to do it right!
Holy smokes. You're everywhere.
my uncle franco gave his soul to that place, he worked for a long time and until his last day of life. he imported all the Italian traditions and recipes, including that of strufoli, so I'm sorry not to see even a photo of him in this video. for me ferrara backery is and always will be FRANCO AMATI❤️
HOOOO uncle franco ovah heaa. Come here Frankie give me a kiss on both cheeks ya maron!
@@BigboiiTone Fohgedabautit!!! You knew Vito was a fanook?
Been making struffoli with my grandma since 2012, our own holiday tradition. Going to be making some in 2 weeks just in time for Christmas eve and christmas :)
Sometimes I forget that some people aren’t Italian and don’t know what struffoli is lol. One of my favorites
I live in NY and never heard of this place. I definitely will check it out
It's worth it.. I like the cannoli and these mini wedding cakes they make
Did you get there?
If it's right, Franco amati worked in this place.
Franco was my grandmother's cousin.(my grandma names Maria)
He was from Miglionico, Italy..🇮🇹🇮🇹
Well my grandmother has never forget him.
She tell me that had a beautiful relationship with him.
Maria staying good. She lives in italy🇮🇹🇮🇹
Montilione here !
Grand parents from Palermo Sicily !
I remember as a child my grandmother would make STRUFFOLI and all of the tasty Italian cookies for Christmas and Easter !
How I miss my Nana !
( and her struffoli )❤️
It is great to know that the old school bakery is still around, so many others have closed up👍😔
Ferrara's is the most delicious and a NY staple. Love this video. Makes me homesick.
Dammnnn das me in 4:43 LMFAOOOO

Never tried struffoli, but want to now. I love all foods :)
I like stories like this one. They make me happy.
Gr8 content as usual Food Insider
Struffoliiiii! Yes baby that’s so Italian 😍 Love them from a Italo srilankan girl! Great video you guys!
Much love from Italy!
I definitely need to go there this weekend !!
This looks delicious!I would like to try it!⭐🌟
You should. I was there in 2016 during my NY trip, and they have some killer cannolis!
Every time I go to NYC I hand carry about a dozen cannoli from Ferraro’s. I live in Las Vegas and my kids love it
Unique menu! It's amazing that 127 years!!!
I worked at Elena’s in Oneonta (“Upstate”) and I remember being taught how to pipe the little balls and she baked hers also. I don’t love super sweet things so these honey buttery balls of love stayed in my heart. ❤❤❤❤
Mabe I will Get there one day >>>!!! 🤣🤣
I love you guys.
Cannoli and Struffoli are my two favourites. My mama used to make them alot when I was a child.
Yes! Buon Natale!!
If I ever get back to NYC, I will be visiting this location, even if I have to walk there from wherever I end up staying. The food isn't suitable for my dietary needs, but screw it, I'll have a one-off treat anyway. This place must be good to have kept going for so many years. Incredible!
Ive got here because of RUclips recommending me this video.
Ferrara's is the BEST, can't wait to go back 😌🥰
Everybody gangsta, till the kitchen catches fire
Sfogiatelle!!! My favorite
Looks yummy
It's sweet and delicious. I will be happy if I take a bite..😋
looking forward to 127 more years .
They need this at the little dessert shop.🥂🍺🍻🍰😀🎂at snowhill station.
Me and my habit of watching food related videos at night 😂
Yes, but for me, it's morning time. Most of my breakfast don't match up to the greatness of what I see in these videos ;)
I've never had them baked. Pretty sure I should not try giving this version to dad, but I'd like to try it.
Yummmmm I want to eat some 😋😋
Maybe I’ll get to eat there one day 😄😄
I love to see tradition carried on and the passing on of recipes, that being said literally the word "Stuffoli" (struffolo singilar) refers to 'little pieces of FRIED dough...' in other words boys and girls if it isn't fried it isn't struffoli...
"A" for effort however but these things are 'Sfoglia' or actually 'Sfoglicci', tiny puffed pastry translated...
GORGEOUS VISUALS
Puff pastry??? More like choux pastry!!!
cream puff pastry, not puff pastry at all
@@sierraguru6942 aka. choux pastry
It's actually almost the same dough that you would use to make egg pasta, my nonna and I made it every year until I got celiac disease
Yes. Pâte à choux.
We make this every year for Christmas! We fry ours and cut the dough smaller tho
Invite me over to try some! I am hungry.
I m so happy that they didnt lose there business to the fire,
well i need to go there if i ever go to new york city.
I love pastries
Best chickpeas desert eveeerr
I thought it was chick peas at first lol looks delicious
This reminds me of the the movie Fatso with Dom Deluise. Worth the watch.
John you ate the ony classic movie
I love my italian heritage.
@To Be Honest lmfao - this made me laugh out loud. Well done.
I always went for the Jordan Almonds
Struffoli are typical of Naples area, there are similar things in other southern italy regions but called in different ways.
They remind me of kix cereal
Love Italian pastries. One thing I could surely say you New Yorkers don't know what cold is.
Are those mini eggs ontop ?
Panettone left the chat :).
I lived in Italy all my life, but I’ve never heard of Struffoli
I always wondered what they taste like and today I got to try it, ugh, so bland. It’s like eating bland bread with honey. Did not enjoy it, however, other items I did like. Maybe I should try the fried version??
I am from India it's looking delicious I wish can be take a bite
I still eat Gingerbread man souls.
As neapolitan Ferrara is an institution. I don' t live in NYC bu for many neapolitans in Naples...is history.
Make me want to move to New York
I thought it said “12 year old boy make the best stuffed ravioli”...
Im hungry
As a baker for over 30 years I can tell you that isn't puff pastry, it is choux paste.
its not like they have mutch going with outside eating by the street in NYC right ? like in europe
La pasticceria italiana magna ntesta a tutti.
I thought it was corn in the thumbnail
This all looks amazing, but i can't help but think under the NY food and health code that you can't touch/handle Ready-to-Eat food with your bare hands.
Adorabella0827 THANK YOU. i was scrolling the comments to find my fellow germaphobes
2:05 IS THAT KAIMATI
Do I need to make a reservation ?
anyone else initially thought the puff pastry bits were macadamia nuts?😂
Love my elementary school next to this place I miss it
I don’t live in the US so I’m curious - why is little Italy disappearing?
@@oceanwave3 technically it was the Republicans who lobbied against Catholic immigrants coming to the US but both are corrupt so you aren't wrong
@@oceanwave3 nowadays it's harder to distinguish between the two
Most Italian business moved due to expansions of the neighborhoods around Little Italy, namely, Tribeca and SoHo - which are known for their wealth.
Staten Island and Queens have bigger Italian neighborhoods but they're not the "one".
Report touts espresso - shows hands pouting coffee!
I need Sicilian cassatelle
Still open?😳
kingpin retired and decided to be a chef
I wonder how they are during COVID
I literally thought they were making desserts out of chickpeas... I know chickpea water (aquafaba) can be used for desserts, so I was intrigued lol
I wish they showed a better view of the shop from the outside for more than a split second. I go to NYC from time to time and wanted to be able to spot it on sight. I know I can map it on my phone... but come on, if you're gonna talk it up.
I taught was chickpeas in a sryrp.
This made me sad I was born and raised in Bensonhurst Brooklyn and our little Italys are dying across all NYC our younger generations are forgetting their culture
I feel so dumb.... I thought they were chickpeas from the thumbnail 🤦🏻♀️
Yummmm i wish Australia had bakeries like this 😩
reminds me of chowder
So they make around 1.5 million dollars on struffoli alone during the holiday period
An i the only one who thought that was chickpeas lol?
I thought it was chick peas at first
Eh ma senza offesa so vreccill' non so' struffoli 🤣
Boilbags and t.v. dinners over tst mashed potatos
Looks like chic peas
The fire story that resulted in 2 hours of lost business was a bit pathetic. That said, I hope they survived Covid as the bakery looks so cool 😋😋
Tri Color cookie or a rainbow cookie. Isn't the host from NY?
Can you find that out here in California
I am an LA food vlogger. The closes to being the oldest bakery is Beverlywood Bakery, which started in 1946. They also have old eateries like Philippes.
@@RockstarEater Ok thank you
As I said earlier, I really wish I should have born in Italy!
Italy is not some fantasy wonderland.
To hell with fantasy wonderland, I want food and only food!
3:10. If I was the host off this video, I will said like 'shut up'
