- Green’s Bakery is the biggest babka wholesaler in New York City. Seen everywhere from iconic delis like Katz’s to popular groceries like Dean & Deluca and Whole Foods, Green’s babkas have become a staple in the city. The family-run business continues to use the same traditional recipe from Chana Green, an immigrant who came to the United States from Hungary after World War II. Producer Medha Imam visited the Brooklyn factory to get a behind-the-scenes tour and learn how the small business turned its moist bread and chocolate babka recipe into a gastronomic institution.

Behind The Scenes At NYC’s Most Legendary Babka Factory | Legendary Eats
Applauding all the immigrant workers who are doing these hard jobs! Most factories are running on their backs. They deserve better.
I grew up getting this from Zabar's in NYC, it is a staple food in my family and is absolutely delicious. Whenever we would visit friends in other parts of the country, they would ask us to bring them Green's babka. I'm so glad it's now available outside of NYC.
New cut: Music added in. Ten times better.
"...if you say the word "babka" theyre gonna think about greens and theyre gonna think about new york city" AHAHAHA no.
what im thinking is Poland.
exactly tf 😂
The version in NYC originated from a Hungarian-Jewish woman. Nothing to do with Poland. But yes there are different forms of the cake throughout Eastern Europe.
Babka means Grandmother in all or most eastern european languages, so when they say Babka, we think of our dear grandmas:)
Next video:
How Food Insider discovered music.
GENZ hahaha
It’s so unique!!! and look delicious 😋
Hello! Great info! Thx🎄🎅😘
Love this polish treat.
this really is the best babka. ive tried others, homemade, theyre usually stingy on the chocolate or the pastry is too much. this is basically a vehicle for chocolate.
I really enjoyed how to make bread.
The bread looks so delicious :)
They finally chipped in on the jar for buying background music.
Beautiful video dear
God bless you, Chana. ❤
Green's babka. Yes, yes, yes.
This time with the background music
Welcome back from your Thanksgiving holiday, Mr. Music!

Nice video😎🤣👍
Tried the cinnamon one for the first time today. It's amazing. I made this face: 😮when I tasted it. Can't wait to try the chocolate. I didn't know chocolate was the best seller.
I really liked the video when it had no background music.
New subscriber😄
Those women don’t look very happy.
that's exactly what I thought.
Work is hard
What minimum mage markers look happy to u
Standing all day for minimum wage.
She said they bake it in a traditional oven. The kitchen looked fairly industrialized to me.
They got the last Babka, and I got bupkis!
Feels like ive read this already yesterday
@@bai_qi u did and the comment is from the same person
I feel like watching Seinfeld after watching this video. 😄
It is so worth the 4 hour round trip I drive to get the Babka and Rugelach from my closest Kosher store. None better in the states!
THE BEST.
Wow they listened 😂😅 the background music changes the video
I would love to try this before my last breath .

Wow, nice story. I’m in London can any one send me some.
You can find in supermarket or any Jewish bakery
Many thanks, I will check it out. We RUclips channel about food tasting.
I was able to get my hands on some here in California. I gave some to my elderly neighbor who never had it before, he threw up. I think because it's made with oil and not dairy, it was too rich for him. He thought I gave it to him because I didn't like it.....boy was he wrong. I really love this Babka but lately the chocolate is too rich for me as well.
When your early and there are not any comments to read❤️❤️😍
You guys at food insider should visit Cornwall UK an see how pasties are made
I’m in Ca & I need this magic
U can get it at Walmart :)
Thank you
Normal people: babka
Me:*baka*
I used to buy the cinnamon bread at the bakery near my home. The name was babkha. Interesting!!
🅱️abka sounds good in Japanese and it makes me smile.
I'm eating a chocolate Green's Babka right now. The struesel is what makes it excellent because it provides the contrasting texture and it gives it a rich look. Also, there's so much chocolate inside that it gives a gooeyness. I've tried Trader Joe's Babka--not nearly as good.
I tried Trader Joes Babka too, it was terrible!
Oh so you did upload it prematurely haha
Did anyone else find it strange that Green's is totally ok with their babka being repackaged/relabeled and sold as another brand?
Try Mexican bread that is gold
BABKA IS POLISH. WHY IS THIS NOT MENTIONED. kina sad. I'm polish and am proud of my country 🇵🇱
Thankful for these comments for educating me. The video taught me nothing.
This looks similar to my grandmother’s potica...

I hate Seinfeld and Love Babka!
Modern babka recipes basically use brioche dough, its evolved past this recipe
You think it's better now or then? I thought it weird no dairy. I haven't seen a. Babka recipe without butter
@@Cfernqnot real babka then, greens is the OG.
Why reuploaded?
With music
With all this labor When will it shut down
Eat one babka every time they say babka.
Baka in japan 😂
No butter ? İn every recip l find there is butter
I was thinking the same thing. Oil is cheaper for mass production. Butter is for the health conscience. I won't be buying their loaf.
@@tmueller333 actually l don't understand how come they make the texture without the butter, without it it is not real babka it is another kind of pastry
@@zceylan I'm calling it industrial short cuts. However, I am in a facebook group called Bread Baking and the babka is this months challenge. Join the group. My sons really loved my 1st attempt so I am making another batch this time with more of a brioche bread approach. Have a Merry Christmas and hope to see you in this FB group.
Ok so the lady came from Hungary, but this is Polish name for that cake and I checked just on google translate and there is no babka word in Hungarian . Are you sure the lady was from Hungary?
Who else clicked on this cause of seinfeld?
This looks more like cozonac. Babka should be cut in 2, along hte lenght, right after rolling. and the 2 halves should be braided. they are braiding a whole roll here, and that's cozonac
Looks like fouseytube at 4:16
Jerry Rob Her😆
No dairy, ummm eggs?
eggs aren't dairy dairy products are only from cow a lot of people think eggs are dairy for some reason google it.

I have better babka up the street from me
female voice was so cute
replace this host already pls.
Hate to break it to you but it sounds like a load of tosh. "Babka" is a polish world for a dry cake. It's usually flavoured with cinnamon but most often with a poppy seed mass with raisins, chocolate wasn't a widely available ingredient back in the day. It's not impossible for it to have migrated to Hungary as both countries enjoyed a far reaching cultural exchange but compared to a real deal this looks like a poor, mass produced cousin.
madam... u had some pimples on ur face take care of it...😊😊😊
