@@MrSTravelQuest Garner, just like y'all. I guess that is why it's the busiest state park in Texas and you have to pull a number just to get your site number. But the water is amazing!
Yes Garner amazing. We picked it since everyone loved it. Water clear and activities in the park make it a must visit. It does have some of the clearest water that we’ve been in. Which camp sites do you try to get? I’m planning on booking in July. Seems like you have to book day to day, campsites fill up quickly.
Our heart belongs to the Davis Mountain State Park/Indian Lodge. We go there every summer. Never crowded, sunset from the top of the mountain is breathtaking, and Ft. Davis is amazing. Being close to Balmoreah is a huge bonus too.
I am going to take kids in this order so they can just get more excited each time! 😊
Heck yeah, go for it! They’re going to have a blast.
I've hiked to the summit of Enchanted Rock several times, and I'd have to put it a lot higher on my list; at least in the top 3 if not #1. Being up there with family on a bright sunny day with cool wind blowing and looking out over vast expanses of space with cloud shadows moving over them was like nothing else I've ever experienced, and seeing the trail of lights moving up and down the summit trail right after sunset was magical. I wouldn't want to trade those memories for anything.
E-Rock an amazing park and been a few times over the years. It’s one of the most visited we have in Texas, but I’ve been to some parks that have it beat (my personal opinion 😊). If you love the summit hike then you have to visit Palo Duro and Big Bend Ranch. Those parks have some amazing views. At the end of the day it’s all about making memories with your love ones and enjoying the journey. What’s your top 3 parks in Texas? I love hearing people different perspectives and experiences.
@@MrSTravelQuestYes for sure. My top three would probably be Enchanted Rock, Bastrop and McKinney Falls. For a while I worked at a place pretty close to McKinney Falls, and I enjoyed taking drives out on the weekends to Bastrop. I also did the Stampede in the Park 5K run/1 mile walk at the MD Anderson science park between Bastrop and Buescher state parks a few years, and that was pretty cool too.
It’s awesome y’all were able to get to go to so many parks! Having a top 10 is cool to see what other folks liked about the parks. We gotta hit it Caprock and it’s continues to look amazing. Great review video 🤙
I’m happy that we reached 20 Texas parks. We only visited two parks prior to 2020. I wanted to make a top 10 video of parks we visited and share what we thought on our adventures. Caprock Canyons amazing and worth checking out. I know you guys travel to plenty of TX State Parks too, which one rank high on your list? Garner was my childhood favorite, but Inks Lake State Park is by far is my #1. Thanks for sharing.....:)

I was really surprised by the variety you have on your list! I’ve lived in TX my whole life and camped in TX plenty of summers and have never been to several parks on your list that look so fun! I think lake mineral wells and caprock canyon are going on our list for when the little ones are a bit older! next trip, we are looking at Colorado bend 🙂 last trip, we went to the big thicket national preserve. It was beautiful! Great hiking! Backwoods camping only, my first time ever on that kind of campsite. 🏕 thanks for sharing your list!
Can you believe we have over 90 State Parks and 5 more currently being created. I know you will love Lake Mineral Wells and Caprock Canyon. I'm planning on making a hidden gem video soon. Colorado Bend is beautiful park and looking to return over the summer. Colorado Bend also has a cave I wanted to check out. I need to check out some National Parks soon, we recently visited the LBJ Ranch and it was pretty neat. The Big Thicket National Preserve looks amazing! Thanks for taking the time and writing. Sorry I didn't comment sooner, we watched this one on the big tv. I really liked seeing you and Ruth chatting about your trips. It's nice to hear people's personal opinions of these parks, and their experiences, as a lot of times people just get hung up on the specific attractions and not the other factors. Great video.
Thanks for stopping by David. I liked the talking head of what we liked about each park we visited. It was something different to do. I know we visited 20 parks and wanted to share what we personally enjoyed about each park. Let me ask, which park has been your favorite so far?
@@MrSTravelQuest Kickapoo, we loved the separation from other campers, the isolation of being very remote, and how small the amount of campsites, made it feel like a lot more fun for us. We don't like the crowds.
@@TexasFamilyCamping I need to check out that park. I want to visit the cave tours that they have. I like going to parks that are hidden gems. I know you been to Garner, but go to Palo Duro. That place was crowded!

Thanks for putting this together! My family is new to hiking, so it is helpful to hear about the experiences of other families. We visited Garner State Park in 2020 as well and LOVED LOVED LOVED it! It is also my #1 for now! We also visited Palo Duro, Lost Maples, and McKinney Falls. In the future, want to see Caprock Canyon and Caddo Lake as well. We have been to Pedernales before and loved it. So many great parks in Texas.
We started last year on love it. Each park definitely different. Garner was so much fun for our whole family. I’m planning to visit McKinney falls this year and heard great things about that park. You will love Caprock Canyons, the bisons are literally everywhere. We just purchased a camper and plan to venture out to Caddo Lake as well. Can you believe we have 90 parks in Texas 😯. @@MrSTravelQuest McKinney Falls was great! Lots to explore and water to cool you off! Yes, it is awesome that we have so many parks. I think my #1 right now has got to be Garner. And we only tacked that on at the last minute on the way out of town after a trip to Lost Maples in the fall, but I actually wished we would have spent most of our time at Garner. The trails and views are gorgeous and the Bald Cypress trees are breathtaking. Can't wait to go back after COVID when the dance hall and restaurant is open. We did get to go to the ice cream shop and the candy shop and did the paddle boats and the Mt. Baldy trail.
@@ericajordan3612 I was trying to get into McKinney Falls over the summer, but this year making plans for that park. We spent 3 days visiting Garner and each day it got better. Me and my daughter hiked Old Baldy on day one. We spent day two swimming the frio. We even checked out the candy store and ice cream shop. We hung out at the dance hall eating ice cream. The last day we hiked a few trails and visited a cave. The park was fun and didn’t really know what to expect when visiting. I want to go again this summer, but camp. We plan on visiting Mustang Island and check out some of the parks in South Texas. Glad you found the channel. I like to share our experiences from each park we visit. I'm a native, and Enchanted Rock is my personal favorite . It's only 1.5 hours from Austin and SA ,.It is a designated,U.S. dark sky park. This makes it a fantastic spot for watching meteor showers...Another Favorite is Big Bend park( it's probably even darker but much further).TX is so big and there's so much to do and see... another Favorite of our's is Tubing on the Comal River in New Braunfels...The Comal river feeds Schlitterbahn water park ,but You can rent a tube for $8 bucks and have a blast without the long lines. This includes an awesome tube shoot that is technically a ride of Schlitterbahn but free for everyone...
Enchanted Rocks a wonderful park, we’ve been a few times and love hiking the summit trail. I look forward in checking it out at night soon. Big Bend is on our list later this year and can’t wait to check it out. I love visiting New Braunsfels for Schlitterbahn. We always see folks tubing the river when we go. I know in Concan, Texas you can float the Frio Rivers for hours. They have a few places that shuttle you. Texas is huge with so much to do. Which parks are you planning to visit this summer?
Texas state park is just absolutely suck its not better than California state park and plus texas doesnt even have no national park like California
Palo Duro literally has hundreds of hiking trails in the entire park but all new visitors always hit the very popular lighthouse trail which is why it stays so congested... and the biking trails are some of the best in the entire state by far.... and yes Garner state park is #1 in my book too. Palo does have great trails and it's pretty busy during the holidays. I love Palo Duro, Caprock Canyons and Garner SP. What are your top Texas State Parks?
I've never made my way to Garner State Park before, instead mostly hitting places between Dallas and San Antonio, but I hope I can go there in the next couple of years. It looks nice 👍

Garner State Park is my favorite park in Texas! I love going to the dance at night and watching everyone dancing to the old jukebox.
It’s still one of our favorite parks . We love the dancing, candy store, hiking and swimming.
My family has been going to Garner SP since the 1950s, we go every summer for a family camping trip. I had a feeling that it would be number 1 on your list. Recently My girlfriend and I did a couple nights at Possum Kingdom State Park, it was a blast with the trails and option to rent a kayak or canoe. Glad I stumbled upon yall's channel, looking forward to more videos.

Excellent video! I really have to agree y'all have some great picks of the parks. I have subscribed, keep up the good work. The only ones missing from my list are Lake Mineral Wells and Dinosaur Valley including your honorable mentions. If you love really wild and remote backpacking, as a park ranger I would suggest Big Bend Ranch State Park and Davis Mountains State Park. We have a wonderful state to explore!

Thank you very much 😊. I say if we can do you can do it. In making the channel we didn’t see much info on State Parks. It was mostly camp sites or vlogs. We hike at all the parks, but it’s usually under 10 miles. Look forward in seeing you around!

We went to Colorado Bend State park in 2019 and camped there. Gorman Falls was awesome. So beautiful. The hikes were challenging. Enchanted Rock is also one of our favorites because of the views. Yes we traveled to 20 parks in 2020. In March I wasn’t sure if we would reach 20, but we did 🙌🏻. We enjoyed all the parks we visit, but picked our top 10. Which parks are your favorite? I see you guys visit plenty of Texas State Parks as well 😃.
@@MrSTravelQuest A lot of the parks you listed are some of our favorites too. We haven't made it to Palo Duro yet, something always seems to derail our plans when we try to get out there. I would say off the top of my head, Colorado Bend, Lost Maples, Mineral Wells, and the Davis Mountains just to name a few. We tend to like the more remote parks. After you finish the Texas SP's you should check out Arkansas SP's. They are amazing.
I was suppose to visit Davis Mountain in November, but couldn’t make it. Palo Duro amazing, but it’s a popular park and gets crowded in some trails (holiday season). I seen you went to Caprock Canyons, what trials did you visit? I love Caprock, wished I could of stayed longer. Our goal is to visit all the parks in Texas, with some out of state parks along the way. I will definitely check out Arkansas SP, which park do you recommend I visit first?
@@MrSTravelQuest We've done all the trails at Caprock except the Old Ranch Road trail. In Arkansas, I would start with Petit Jean, Devils Den, and Mt Nebo!! The channel below gives great overviews of most of the parks in Arkansas. Great video,, I did a Texas road trip last year to hike the parks, wish I would have seen this, I would have changed a few destinations. Inks lake and Dinosaur Valley, loved both of them attempted Enchanted rock but wasn't able to get there, next time for sure, and the others you featured.. Grew up in Uvalde going to Garner state park regularly. Brings back memories. We love Enchanted rock state park! Been a few others you mentioned. Some of the others I’m excited to try.

Great video guys, been to several of these but show me some new ones to try!! If you haven't been to McKinney Falls state park it's right out of Austin with cool history and lots of beautiful hiking. Another cool place is McDonald's observatory in west Texas. It's one of the largest ones in the US with lots of cool stuff for the kids. Glad I found your channel keep up the good work

My favorite Texas state park so far is CADDO LAKE. Definitely a unique experience. The hiking is decent but to have the ultimate experience I recommend renting kayaks and going on a tour with a guide. It's simply amazing
We love Caddo Lake! We had a chance to canoe and hike at the park in June. We’re working on visiting all 90 parks. It’s amazing how each part of Texas looks different. If you have the time, check out Palo Duro Canyon. It’s an amazing park and the 2nd largest Canyon in the U.S.

I love this video! I also just want to say that I love Lost Maples. Living in SA it’s the closest park for good fall colors but seriously, y’all should head up to Northeast Texas in the fall! So many beautiful colors.
When I was a kid in the 80’s we had an old 21’ Nomad trailer. We went all over Texas and I think I’ve been to every state park in Texas. I think my favorites, as I get older, are more based on the memories with my family.
My dad, brother and I did the lighthouse trail but it wasn’t crowded back then. We also LOVED Caprock Canyon State Park. My grandmother grew up there so it was interesting seeing where she came from and learn our family history.
Texas has some of the best parks in the nation. Y’all are gonna have fun and maybe we will see y’all in a park!

Lost Maples is one of my personal favorites. Most folks stop after Monkey Rock and the scenic views are amazing during the fall. We are working on our fixer upper camper right now. We want to visit more parks North East and South of Texas soon. Our goal is to visit all 90 Texas State Parks, I know we have 5 more in development now. It's all about creating memories and seeing this great state. I know when we visit the parks it's just a snap shot of the park. The lighthouse trail at Palo Duro beautiful, that trails super popular. Caprock amazing and was surprised how empty the park was. The Bisons are a must see and can't believe how close you get. I agree Texas does have some of the best parks. @@MrSTravelQuest We sure will! My family enjoys it so much. Arkansas, if you every get the chance, is another beautiful place along with New Mexico. I say those two because they are close, clean and have a lot to offer campers and hikers.

It's cool that you guys made this video! I can't argue with Garner being number one. I went back in October and remember saying "wow" to myself. It's stunning! Btw, when I went I saw a bunch of people there, more so than any other park I've been to.
Garner still my #1 park and it’s even better in the summer. I seen a list on YT that had Enchanted rock as top 3, but 🤷♂️. Garner was busy when we went over the summer, but the trails were empty. The only trail i seen people on was Old Baldy. What’s your top 3 parks so far?
@@MrSTravelQuest It's crazy cause prior to this past year, the only state park I had been to was Guadalupe River but I've traveled to so many place just as you did. My family really like Guadalupe River and I do too so I would say Garner, Lost Maples, and Guadalupe are probably my top 3. Pedernales is up there too though.
Same with us, we only visited Enchanted Rock and San Angelo SP (Local park). I wanted to visit more parks and made the goal of visiting 20. It was a challenge, but we did it. I was surprised that the first few parks we visited were consider top parks. Guadalupe River SP amazing and planning on a summer visit. Lost Maples is my favorite park for hiking. I love Garner and haven’t visited another park like it yet. Can’t wait to venture out more in 2021.
I made my first trip to Garner State Park in the summer of 1962. At Pasadena High School in the sixties a trip to Garner each summer was sorta considered a requirement for graduation -- at least that's how we looked at it. Until about twenty years ago, I had made trips every year (or every other year). My wife and I took our two daughters most of their years from their infancy until they graduated from college, usually staying in a screened shelter. The girls loved it. In a couple of weeks, we are taking three of our older daughter's children for their first trip, and we are looking forward to sharing one of the best experiences of our lives with them. My favorite memories of Garner (and the area around it) are tubing down the river, sleeping under the stars, swimming at Neal's, eating at Neal's Cafe, and best of all, the dance at the pavilion every night. Life doesn't get much better than that -- unless you can also share it with someone you love.
Beautiful said, Garner definitely an experience every Texan should do at least once. It’s one of my favorites in the state. It has something for everyone at all ages.

You are exactly correct about Garner. Been going many years and knew the Foshees who named the hiking trail. Climbed up Old Baldy to celebrate my 50th birthday. My whole family goes on Father's Day every year so we were in the river when you were there. Happy trails.

Ok now that I have visited several parks, I can say Palo Duro canyon is my favorite (although the hike was difficult in the summer), Inks Lake is my kids’ favorite (because of the huge rock they jumped off). Mineral Wells was also really fun, but no shade at the lake.
Caprock was really cool, similar to Palo Duro. I was too nervous about running into bison to actually hike any trails at Caprock.
Plan on going to Garner this summer!
Palo Duro amazing, it was even hot in March. I know summer time hikes can be brutal. If you love Palo Duro, you would love Caprock Canyons.

Wife and I just got back from hiking the Guadalupe Peak on Friday. I mentioned to her we need to hit more Texas parks and bam, I find this video. I think Caprock Canyon is next on my list.
Guadalupe Peak on my list. We plan on visiting the National parks later this year. Can you believe we have over 90 parks and have 5 more in development. Caprock Canyons amazing. You won’t be disappointed.
@@MrSTravelQuest my advice on Guadalupe peak get there early. I've done several state parks but nothing north or east. I'm planning on staying in Texas for my next few hiking trips.

@@MrSTravelQuest the views were amazing. There is a Facebook fan page for the park. Lots of good info and daily updates. We are young 50 year old and did the hike in 8 hours.
@@johnnyguerra3754 My co-worker did the peak and shared her experience. She keeps telling me to go. I joined a few FB groups for hiking which helps me plan out my trips. If you haven't already check out the Alltrails app, it has trails that sometimes aren't marked at the park. 50 years young and getting those great hikes in. I know those views were worth the 8hr hike. Safe travels and happy hiking!

Palo Duro and Caprock are the only two we have been to. Pretty sure Guadalupe is the one we almost stopped at when we were headed to Magnolia Beach a little over a year ago, but we chose instead to drive straight to the beach. I believe Mineral Wells is on my list of ones we want to visit. I also would like to see the dinosaur one. I'm not all big into dinosaurs, but I think it would be cool to see. This was a very informative video. You guys did a great job with it!
I want to visit Guadalupe Peak soon. You will love Mineral Wells SP and the town is unique with it's crazy water. Dinosaur Valley is cool and can't believe you get to touch the fossils. Me and my son kept putting our hands and feet into the fossils. They have tons of stuff to do outside of the park too.
Enchanted Rock once belonged to the Moss family. They had over 10,000 acres of land and sold Enchanted Rock to the state back in 1978. I go to church with that family.

There is also some cool underground caverns to see in Texas. Natural Bridge caverns is just North of SA. Longhorn Caverns is just outside Burnet.I love doing the underground hikes in the summer because they are a great way to beat the heat. The caverns offer different experiences,from family friendly to actuall "hard hat" spelunking 🤠🤠👍.. I've never been to Sonora Caverns but I just saw your review on it and it looks beautiful!!

I live really close to Palo Duro and its very common to spend my weekends there hiking with my boyfriend. Lighthouse is ALWAYS busy and coming on Thanksgiving break probably didnt make it any better either lol. You HAVE to check out Rock Garden trail, its my favorite!
We spent 2 days during Christmas break and knocked out Rock Garden, Light House and the CCC park. It’s a beautiful park and couldn’t believe how huge is was. I really want to go to the Texas Musical they have during the summer. Which trail is your favorite?

Garner State Park is amazing. Book in advance, can not emphasize enough. Lost Maples within driving distance.
Definitely book advance! 30 days for day passes and 5 months for camping. I’m happy they opened back to full capacity. Which parks are you planning for the summer?

I skimmed through your videos and I didn’t see any from Choke Canyon State Park I’m not sure if you’ve heard of it it’s a few miles from Three Rivers and you’ll encounter a few alligators there if you’re lucky. Anyways new subscriber and looking forward to upcoming videos.

A really underestimated hike here in San Antonio is over at. Lady Bird Johnson Park. The scenic hike gives you amazing views over the hill country.
Another one in LBJ state park in Johnson City. The springtime wildflowers are amazing.

Davis Mountains SP is maybe my favorite. You are also close to the University of Texas McDonald Observatory and can do a cool star party there on Tue, Fri, or Sat evenings
Almost visited that one recently for a day trip. We traveled to Marfa, Texas. I read on what to do in the park and decided to wait. I want to see everything at the park and it’s a dark night sky park too. Thanks for letting me know about the star party. That’s something I want to see and do at that park. I heard nothing but great things about Davis Mountains SP.
That’s another one that they omitted from this list. I love Davis Mountains State Park.

Palo Duro great and I've done Lost Maples a few times. I love Lost Maples during the fall too, which park do you enjoy during summer? I wanted to visit Hamilton pool last summer, but Covid happened. I plan to visit that this summer as long as everything stays open. Our goal is to visit all 90 :-), thanks for checking out our channel.

I’ve always loved Mission Tejas SP in East Texas. It’s a smaller park, but it’s beautiful with lots of hiking.

Garner is my favorite too. On the east side of Texas, Village Creek is nice too. Palmetto is another wonderful small state park.
Over the summer we plan on exploring East Texas. I’ve heard some great things about Palmetto. Caddo Lake on my list to visit as well.

There’s not a lot on the east side, sad to report. There are several good ones like Caddo - it’s nice as well. I just went to Brazos Bend yesterday, it’s a good one - lots of alligators.

Dinosaur valley is the best park for kiddos. I love this one a lot. Me and my husband took a day trip there while we were dating and we finally got back there this last weekend with our little one year old.
We love Dinosaur Valley SP! We plan on revisiting this summer. We also want to visit Dinosaur World and Fossil Rim that’s next to the park. We made a video on top parks for kids and Dinosaur Valley was on top of the list.
Colorado Bend is awesome. The spicewood spring trail is the best in the park. Numerous water falls and a swimming hole to cool off after hiking. Pedernales Falls is great too. I go there often.
We love Spicewood Springs at Colorado Bend SP, we went twice during the summer. We need to revisit Pedernales Falls during the summer.

We’ve visited White Rock Cave. The next time we go back we’re going to visit Crystal Cave. We hiked Old Baldy on the first day. It’s a beautiful park with plenty of great hikes.
We love jumping off the Rocks on to the River! The view of the Stars at night looks spectacular!
@@eduardovillalobos7021 We did 3 days last summer. The camping were 50% capacity and couldn't get a spot. We did 3 days straight in july and the night sky was amazing. I plan on capturing it this summer.

We used to sneak into that baker hotel in mineral wells back in the 2000s. It still had alot of stuff from the 50s in it. Like going back in time
That sounds amazing! I know they plan on restoring it. I wanted to check out the ghost tours but don’t think they do that anymore. The town is pretty cool too.
@@MrSTravelQuest its most definitely haunted. We were in there overnight with flashlights. Hopefully it does get renovated it has really nice architecture. My fav was the view of the town from the top floor moonlight ballroom.
We tried to drone in the parking lot to get views from the top. Would love to do a story on it. With folks who use to work the hotel. I bet they have stories for days.

Next time you go to Enchanted Rock do the cave at the top of the rock, you will need to take a flashlight. I also like the low trails, hough boulders and rock overhangs
We plan on checking out the cave and other trails once it cools down. We love visiting E-Rock when visiting Fredericksburg.
I don't know if Big Bend counts since it's a National Park, so I'll go with Palo Duro. I haven't been to Cap Rock, but it looks awesome. Garner too. They're definitely on my list now after seeing your video. Davis Mountains State Park is another I really want to visit at some point.

@@MrSTravelQuest Heck I think after watching this I'm going to shoot for Caprock & Garner this summer. And that's great - can't wait for your videos on Big Bend and Davis. If you can I would aim for fall/winter if possible for Big Bend because the summer heat there can be really unforgiving. But yeah I would recommend Lost Mine Trail and 100% definitely go see the Santa Elena Canyon. They have some other A+ trails there too that I haven't done. I'm excited for y'all!!

It has a great video of the Frio River. Caprock Canyons go for the Haynes Ridge trail. It has some nice elevation and scenic views. I can’t wait to check out Big Bend and Davis Mountains, thanks for those trails recommendations. You know I’m definitely making a video on those 😊

Want to see a really cool Texas State Park? Check out Copper Breaks. The ground has such a high percentage of copper that all the rocks are green. Also, the town of Quannah, TX, is close by. Named after the famous Indian Chief.

Lost Maples is beautiful! I’ve been to Pedernales and Garner too, McKinney SP on my list to visit this year. What’s great about Lost Maples is the peaceful hike. After Monkey Rock you see less folks. Made me feel liken I had the whole park to ourselves.

You guys need to take the drive from Precido to Lajitas...It is the most beautiful drive you will ever take and then you can go In to Big bend national park which is absolutely 💯 beautiful
Excellent recommendation! We took that route during spring break in March. We traveled the scenic route and visited both BBNP/BBSP. The views of West Texas landscape were stunning!

Laredo,went Oct 1919, the monarch butterfly’s were migrating right thru state park while there
We seen some last year at Inks Lake SP. We were hiking and seen a few in the area. I realized after our visit it was migration season for them. It’s definitely a site to see 😊
The west texas salt flats during 2021 turned into a turquoise giant lake on a side of a road and it immediately became the best spot w the guadalupe peak right behind
I remember that happening, we missed out seeing that. Guadalupe Peak is happening this year, can’t wait to reach the top of Texas.

@MrSTravelQuest Guadalupe peak trail is tough for the first 1/3, but then evens out. The view at the tallest point in Texas is worth it, though. Devils hall trail is an easier but really beautiful trail. Looking forward to seeing y'all out there.
In no particular order three of my favorite state parks in Texas is Rusk State Park in east Texas Possum Kingdom, State Park, west of mineral Wells and probably my all-time favorite devils river state park
Those are some good ones. I love the Devils River, I want to Kayak down the Devils one day.
Crazy. Never of Garner State Park. Being from the Panhandle I've been to both Caprock Canyon and Palo Duro Canyon. Caprock Canyon also had Lake Theo and free fishing due to being a State Park. When I was younger, maybe about 30 years ago, at Palo Duro, they used to have a train ride called the Sad Monkey Trail. This was due to a formation on the side of a cliff that looked like a sad Monkey. Unfortunately the train ride has been shut down. And also, don't forget Devils Slide at Palo Duro.
I heard about the train ride at Palo Duro. I had to look it up and looked amazing. Garner a beautiful park and perfect in the summer. I love Palo Duro and plan to revisit this fall.
