Go back to South Llano late May to mid June and visit the Bird Blinds. You are guaranteed to see the colorful Painted Bunting (a pretty red, blue, and green songbird), Indigo Bunting, and have very good chances to see a Vermillion Flycatcher and Blue Grosbeak.
Inks Lake is our very favourite TX State Park - beautiful hiking trails, gorgeous scenery, beautiful swimming at the amazing very popular Devil’s Waterhole.
I highly, highly recommend Hueco Tanks. I grew up going to this park. Its so fun to explore and beautiful to see. Also Franklin Mountains is a ton of fun. Growing up in El Paso helped getting to both spots over the years.
We love Hueco Tanks, we visited El Paso and checked out the guided tour. What are some hidden gems in El Paso? We plan on revisiting and wanted to check out some great food spots/museums.

Fort Davis State Park is pretty cool. Visiting the old Fort Davis fort is worth the drive. And the drive to Balmohrea is extraordinary…especially if you have a standard transmission. Put it in neutral and coast for miles and miles.
Mustang Island State Park deserves a mention. The river you showed at Seminole Canyon looks like the Pecos which does join the Rio Grande to the south at Amistad Reservoir.
We plan on making another one for 2022. Mustang Island 🏝 definitely underrated. Yes the river I show was the Rio Grande located near Seminole Canyon, good eye 👍
Thanks. Well done. This’ll help to finally get me to El Paso. Just came back from and enjoyed, Seminole, S Llano, Sandhills and agree wholeheartedly with your comments. Will be going to Caddo soon and will spend more time there than planned. Not sure where the cut off is for “lesser known” but would give Brazos Bend and Mineral Wells a thumbs up.

But from Mable Falls, they move all up and down the Lower Colorado River. And eventually the colony moves eastward. To colonize under the Congress Avenue Bridge. In Austin Texas.
@@MrSTravelQuest huh. I answered you question but my answer doesn’t show up that I posted it. Long story short. They come to Marble Falls. Along Max Starke road. They exit caves at Huber quarry. But you can view them from Max Starke Road . Every August at 7 pm. Max Starke is a dam, and that road leads to the dam, and the bluebonnet fishing camp.

@@MrSTravelQuest folks from these parts love going to the Llano Slabs in Kingsland Texas. That you seen me mention in other comments. And there is also Devil’s waterhole off Park Road 4 at Inks Lake State Park. I would not recommend anyone swim in Lake Marble Falls, nor Lake LBJ. Currents are strong some days on Lake MF. And Lake LBJ has had history of brain eating ameba. And reckless boaters. Pacebend Park is also a Travis County Park near Bee Cave, along the Pedernales River. Where the river meets upper lake Travis, people frequent to swim, along with Krause Springs in Spicewood Texas. Pacebend is super dangerous. Every year there is horrible news about drowned people. The currents made from boats pushes swimmers into alcoves and caves beneath the water. Hence why many victims are never found. We stick near the beach to swim, and away from the limestone cliffs, underwater caves, and alcoves.
Davis Mountain State park is really nice. We stayed at the lodge since my wife didn't want to camp. We are looking for something in east Texas for our next getaway. Caddo Lake looks nice.
How was the lodge? We have plans staying there in December. We plan on doing some hiking in the Davis Mountains. You will love Caddo Lake, canoeing the lake a must.
@@MrSTravelQuest the lodge was really nice. The restaurant is not open and the rooms do not have a microwave or a fridge. We checked in on a Sunday and left Tuesday. We didn't see to many people at the lodge. You can go to my channel and see a small video of our hike.

Another great video. The only park on this list that I have been to is the South Llano River State Park. And that was over 30 years ago, so I’m sure things have changed. But the park I want to visit the most is Caddo Lake State Park and kayak the paddling trails.

@@paulmilsaps4476 Buescher is a really nice park. We walked a long trail during beautiful weather. I suggest you go to Bastrop which is 12 miles and you can either go through the outside of the park or the inside (the 2 parks connect and you will get a beautiful scenic tour). Of course, you will go much slower through the inside. Also in bastrop, there is a nice little area for you to fish. Super beautiful and peaceful. Inks is an amazing park. The pier is nice and calm. Devils waterhole is nice to swim at. They have a bird blind that you have to drive to (about 2 miles outside the park). You need a code to get in but really nice. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

Really nice park, and did drive through Buescher, this time going to do things the other way around. But what I’m really looking forward to is Inks Lake in late Nov… might be too cold for swimming but I will definitely check out the pier and devil’s sinkhole. Not real big on bird watching but may check it out anyway. And to add, if you haven’t been to Huntsville State Park yet I would suggest going. It's a big park with lots to do, with lake Raven being in the middle of the park, great for canoeing, kayaking and fishing, and lots of trails.

For the summer we usually visit parks with water activities. Garner, South Llano, Blanco,McKinney Falls, Abilene and Balmorhea. The park pass is well worth it! We do most of our exploring in the Fall and Summer months 😊

It's small but has beautiful water and it's got a nice wpa era lodge. The Sam Houston National Forest was pretty great also. Then you can explore around Lake Livingston. We have some Austin and Houston parks coming up on. These are some great recommendations. The Big Thicket is Houston National Park and we missed out on it. We traveled to Village Creek to see what that park was all about 😊. Look forward in seeing you in the comments.
Mr.S Travel Quest that depends. I really think Tyler State Park is underrated. It’s a local hotspot in East Texas but outside of that it’s not a “destination park” like Palo Duro or Big Bend Ranch. I would say it’s more of a locals park but it’s incredibly beautiful, especially in the Spring or Fall. I also love Dangerfield State Park, Purtis Creek and Lake Bob Sandlin. On the plus side of visiting Lake Bob Sandlin you can also visit the Mid-America Flight Museum which is the best private aviation museum in the nation. It’s free admission and the guy that owns it has about 70 vintage aircraft all in flying condition. He has WWI airplanes and even the very first Air Force 1 airplane.
@@matthewwhitt9398 I know East Texas hs tons of parks. We plan on visiting those during the summer. Tyler SP and Dangerfield SP are great recommendations, which trails are a must? Yes Palo Duro, Enchanted Rock, Big Bend and Guadalupe Peak are always highlighted. I plan on doing another hidden gem video once we visit East and South Texas. The flight museum sounds pretty neat, what’s so top things to do in those areas? I might do a video on that, I love American history. Thanks for the recommendation and definitely going to check them out.

Travis County is currently creating a new state park on the south side of highway 71. It’s going to be huge. With all the developments going up along Highway 71. It is great news that more lands are being protected. I will be one of the first in line. When it opens. I don’t know the name of the park yet. But it will be between Hamilton pool, and Pacebend Park. I believe on old Reimer’s land. There IS already a Travis county park named Reimer’s ranch. Right next to Hamilton pool. I wonder if it is the same property being made into the new park.
I know they have Palo Pinto Mountains being developed and Devils River Dan A. Hugh Unit. They’re the newest ones being opened soon. It’s going to be amazing!
Most parks have some sweet spots if you need a signal. Colorado Bend has one spot in the park where you can get some bars. I usually tell my party how long I’ll be when I’m on the trails.
I wish Texas would declare the Llano slabs in Kingsland Texas a State park. Recent property owners keep harassing families who been swimming there for their whole lives. I been going there for 50 years. I know people went there before I started going there.
I know they actively look for places at fair market price. Most of the time the parks are leased or donated to the state.That would be a cool place for a Texas state park.

The bats across the river from my place along the Lower Colorado River come around once a year in August. They come out at exactly 7pm

Caddo lake is the most beautiful park in Texas that I have been too.

@@matthewwhitt9398 I know East Texas hs tons of parks. We plan on visiting those during the summer. Tyler SP and Dangerfield SP are great recommendations, which trails are a must? Yes Palo Duro, Enchanted Rock, Big Bend and Guadalupe Peak are always highlighted. I plan on doing another hidden gem video once we visit East and South Texas. The flight museum sounds pretty neat, what’s so top things to do in those areas? I might do a video on that, I love American history. Thanks for the recommendation and definitely going to check them out.

Travis County is currently creating a new state park on the south side of highway 71. It’s going to be huge. With all the developments going up along Highway 71.
It is great news that more lands are being protected. I will be one of the first in line. When it opens. I don’t know the name of the park yet. But it will be between Hamilton pool, and Pacebend Park. I believe on old Reimer’s land. There IS already a Travis county park named Reimer’s ranch. Right next to Hamilton pool. I wonder if it is the same property being made into the new park.
I know they have Palo Pinto Mountains being developed and Devils River Dan A. Hugh Unit. They’re the newest ones being opened soon. It’s going to be amazing!
@@MrSTravelQuest I never ventured west to the Pecos River nor Devil’s River But they’re both on my bucket list.

Do you use anything like a cell phone booster when you're out on the trails?
No booster, the only park that we had no signal was Colorado Bend, Palo Duro and Caprock Canyons.

Most parks have some sweet spots if you need a signal. Colorado Bend has one spot in the park where you can get some bars. I usually tell my party how long I’ll be when I’m on the trails.

I wish Texas would declare the Llano slabs in Kingsland Texas a State park. Recent property owners keep harassing families who been swimming there for their whole lives. I been going there for 50 years. I know people went there before I started going there.
I know they actively look for places at fair market price. Most of the time the parks are leased or donated to the state.That would be a cool place for a Texas state park.
