  • The Texas Hill Country is one of the most beautiful areas of Central Texas with rolling hills, rivers and abundant wildlife. The region features hundreds of wineries, distilleries and breweries as well as many historic towns like Fredericksburg and New Braunfels. We spent 48 hours in the Texas Hill Country and had a relaxing weekend exploring this beautiful part of the state. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Just wanted to take a minute to say what I love about your videos/style: They are always presented in a light-hearted, easy-going tone that exploration and adventure are all about. You don't overexplain or intellectualize travel, you simply enjoy the journey and present your experience, and I really like that

As a lifelong Texan from San Antonio, it is great seeing the Hill Country get some love. Such an awesome collection of towns and things to do. Some local intel about the park. It is pronounced Purrr-den-ales in spite of that pronunciation making no sense! Enjoyed the video!

Enjoyed your video of the Texas Hill Country. Not to be critical, but you missed the most rugged and beautiful part of the area. Just a few miles north from the Fredericksburg is the Willow City loop, a stunningly beautiful area especially in the spring when the wild flowers are in full bloom. The ruggedness of the hills and the wild flowers make it a must see. Also the Leakey, Vanderpool and Campwood area with the drive through the most rugged part of the hill country is gorgeous. In that area, you also have two of the most beautiful state parks, Lost Maples (my personal favorite) and Garner State Park., again a must see. Hope you can come back and complete your journey through the beautiful Texas Hill country.

It's actually not the childhood home of Nimitz (common misconception). He was born there but spent the majority of his childhood in Kerrville before graduating from Tivy high school. His mom and step dad/uncle ran the St. Charles hotel which stood where the Sid Peterson hospital used to be located in town.

So excited you enjoyed the hill country! My favorite place on earth! Enchanted Rock is a 30 year old Christmas tradition for our family! Sons now grandsons go. Maybe another time you can come for the Christmas parade and lights in Johnson City. There's so much to see it's hard in one weekend but you hit some good places. We live about 2 hours away, this is a go to place for us. The picture of my dogs was actually taken at Pedernales State Park. If you had time to do it , if you kept hiking around on the left you would have come up to one of the most beautiful spots at the park. I really enjoy your channel and am so glad you enjoyed our hill country and bluebonnets!

It is so gratifying to see someone do a piece on the country part of the Hill Country. Often, the focus is on Austin but as a former Austinite, my favorite times were heading west out of town to the Pedernales Falls (which you could body slide down years ago) and into Fredericksburg. I noticed the buffalo on your cap and it made me think of the fun we've always had visiting Caprock State Park up in the Amarillo area. It's full of redrock canyons and the state's buffalo herd, which can be seen throughout the park including the campgrounds. Safe travel to you always.

I live in Austin and will caution you the ‘hill country’ is nearly as large as some eastern US states so driving around in just this region can be daunting in duration (especially if you also want to take in Austin, San Antonio, Boerne, Banderas, Marble Falls, Llano, and so many TX towns)

Hamilton's Pool looks mostly the same but operates totally different from forty years ago when I would go. It's not nearly as fun now.
I've been to almost every place you went in this video in the 70's and 80's. The best spot on the video was the Nimitz Museum. It took me all day to see and read and think about what's there. But when it comes to the Texas Hill Country for every place you visit there are ten more to see. You could live in that part of Texas and never see them all. Every town is unique, a jewel with no end to creativity in what is called, The Friendly State, the Texas motto we believe in. 😅

I'm in Houston so I visit all these areas quite often during the year, enough to get bored lol
Yet your video is making me want to visit it this weekend.

I went to that part of Texas the last month, and after watching your video I discover the name of the flowers along the I-35.
Also I find out new places to see my next time there.

The Pacific War Museum also has an outdoor section where they do a short battle reenactment. It is only on certain days and hours though. Worth the watch... (At least they had this on my last trip there)

Great videos ! Watching from Melbourne Australia. You have a great speaking style - so much so I often let your videos run on play all while doing chores around the house. You Tubers who use AI voices I will never give my time to. Keep it up ! 👏🏼 Having never been to the US I’m enjoying the high quality imagery too. Especially Utah - fabulous

Great job y’all. Even though we have property near Llano, about 16 miles from Fredericksburg I did not know many of the restaurants. Plan to take my wife to see Blake the Rhino and sip some great Texas wines. Thanks!

I never saw the Pedernales Falls so low. We used to go there and walk out to the falls where the water would flow at about six inches deep all the time. At the bottom the rock turned up and it would launch you up and out into the pool. That was one of the main reasons to go there. Apparently, some people would do that who weren't good enough swimmers and there were drownings. There are whirlpools. There is also a split in the rocks downstream about 10 feet wide where tubing or rafting was fun. A little rough on a tube because the water was moving fast through there. Now they don't allow swimming there. The water looks very low!

Was in Fredericksburg in December. I bet Pops would’ve enjoy the Naval Museum. I stayed about 2.5 hrs, I agree with you, probably could’ve stayed 4-5 hrs.

Good day! Just FYI, I know Desert Door claims to be the only ones making Sotol, but it’s not accurate anymore. Y’all should take a short drive to Giddings & visit Dime Box Distillery. They have SOTOL, whiskey, & vodka. All great stuff! They have also won awards for it.
