My husband and I just returned from the mighty 5 in Utah. I followed your and pop’s adventures. Did an easy hike in all five. Loved the donuts at the pink rock shop on 89, and you’re right! The IDK barbecue was outstanding. Thanks for the inspiration. I saw the Alamo when I was 12, so time for another visit. I love your adventures. Thank you!
Casa Rio oldest Mexican restaurant on riverwalk. started in 1946. El Fenix opened in 1918 in Dallas, Texas. El Charro Café of Tucson, AZ oldest Mexican Restaurant in continuous operation by the same family.

Your videos are always so well documented, thought out, and presented, time after time. I have never been to San Antonio. I think I'll have to do something about that. I've always wanted to see the Alamo. excellent, as always 🤠👏👏
Next time you have to go eat at Mi Terra in the Market Square. They have a Mexican pastry counter in the front and great food. We have been when the mariachi band was roaming around the restaurant and playing. Great history and atmosphere
I think it would be fun if both you and Pops put together your own top 10 lists of BBQ places you visited on this trip. See what is the same and what is different.
@@popshiking well, knowing how amazing Texas BBQ is, I think both lists will be correct in their own way. Hard to go wrong with any choice. I’m not picking any sides. I like you both haha
I enjoy your videos so much! We're heading here at the end of October, so this was very helpful. We watched many of your PCH videos before our trip there and found them very informative and actually used many of your recommendations. Keep filming!
San Antonio can be a very “touristy “ city but there are many other places that are worth visiting. The Briscoe Western Art Museum has many Remington and Russell works as well as others. Very worth a visit. And the McNay is a world class museum. The King William district has great restored old homes and has a good walking tour. The Tobin Center is a great performance venue. Whenever I go to visit my friends who live in Alamo Heights they always introduce me to cool out of the way places.
Also the Witte Museum, the San Antonio Musem of Art, the museum at Ft. Sam Houston Quadrangle (open to anyone), the Botanical Garden, Brackenridge Park. So many neat things to do!
Thanks for your videos, they're really well done! I grew up in San Antonio and I always try to take visitors to the boots! It's such fun to see. The Riverwalk is popular with locals and visitors alike :)
Its 100% more wonderful when its the Christmas season and we have a skating ring in Travis park. We also has 3 Fiesta parades in thw 11 days of Fiesta. One day parade , one river parade and one at night all lid up in colors
I have friends who have never visited SA, and now I have a great video to show them (and maybe convince them to visit)! Great spots! Love that you went off the beaten path! San Antonio is a huge city, not just the Riverwalk, so I’m glad you guys were able to show things around town. For anyone who hasn’t been, “outside the city” is basically “outside of downtown.” It’s still in San Antonio. The boots are near the airport 😉
went for a quick visit this past week with my Sons and Daughter in-law. San Antonio is my favorite city! nothing like the riverwalk anywhere else. spent a couple of nights in the Menger Hotel right on the Alamo plaza. lot of work going on the plaza, but when its done its going to be spectacular! Have a drink at the Menger Bar. Teddy Rosevelt hung out there with his roughriders. For an exquisite night out, (expensive but so absolutely worth it) take an Uber to the pearl district and dine at Mon Chu Chu. Try the Baguette Au Fromage Raclette 2 DIE 4!!! truly a memorable evening!
Beautiful! Thank you! Some, who are as old as Pops, have a large, green, souvenir pencil with "Viva Hemisphere '68" and a drawing of that tower on it, from when they were a kid, traveling from Houston to SA for the event! It sits in the pencil jar in the study, as a sacred emblem of youthful days. You are correct - the same architect designed both the towers, O'Neil Ford. He has a Wikipedia article. He earned his Architecture degree through the mail from a correspondence school! The online degree of the 1920's! Apparently, it taught him well!
Welcome to our beautiful city!!! Next time check out the Mexican wings atop the water features by the tower of the Americas, the Pearl during farmers market on weekends, Brackenridge park, king William neighborhood which also has historic houses to tour.
It's been so long ago when we visited San Antonio, great memories, our kids always liked " The Aquarena Springs". Traditional stop when we came from Austin to visit SA. It's great to see you travel with your dad again.
Our favorite Texas city and one of our favorites in the entire country. Great food everywhere, history, unique architecture. We love the Missions and the Riverwalk (a boat ride is well worth it), Sea World, Fiesta Texas, and the zoo... so much to see and enjoy, but definitely for me a non-summer destination due to the heat.
There are two free museums on Fort Sam, several others a few miles away. I do remember eating in the revolving restaurant in the tower as a kid, The Alamo is small but for sure worth seeing.
Love the channel! Difficult question I can imagine but looking to visit Texas from the U.K soon, where would you recommend for first time visitors? We have been to lots of Florida, New York, New Orleans, vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles but no idea where to start with Texas! Keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the comment! We have done two separate Texas trips. The first was into El Paso and to Carlsbad, White Sands (both in New Mexico) and then over to Big Bend. There is a video of this trip on my channel if you want to see it. For this trip we spent two weeks and started in Dallas, Fort Worth, down to Houston, over to Corpus Christi, up to San Antonio and Austin. This was a whirlwind trip with only 1-2 days in each big city but it was fun to see so much of the state. There will be a full video on this trip too but it may take another month or so before I have it edited.
I live in San Antonio, I highly suggest you to start right here. SA has a rich history and culture. San Antonio also is in the heart of Texas culture and history. You will love the food!
I would avoid Dallas, as driving there is a nightmare, and there is really nothing Texan about it. However, here in Arlington, which is just a short drive from Dallas, we have a large amusement park, and the stadiums for the professional football and baseballs teams. We are also just a short drive from Fort Worth, which has the Stockyards and many other museums and things of interest. From there, I would definitely say that San Antonio with a short stop off to New Braunfels (they are the only town in Texas with original German settlers that still speak the language, so there is a lot of interesting history there). You might find El Paso to be of interest as well, although that is quite a bit farther west.

5:35 - "Puffy" tacos were NOT created in San Antonio...They were first made by the Caro family in Rio Grande city, TX in early 1920s. Restaurant is STILL open. they later opened two Caro's in Fort worth and the last one near TCU closed in 2008 or so.
@@rrod9078 About what? Caro's opened in 1937 and started selling puffed tacos at that time. Ray's was sometime later in the 40s or even 50s when places in San Antonio like Karam's and Jacala also started selling them. And having eaten all of these and also Henrys and others in SA area Caro's were always the best.
I was struggling to find parking anywher near Alamo and riverwalk lol. Went last year but got nowhere to park, and some of those gated lots charge $30 per hour was crazy.
Wow it is great discovering things and places in cities I have never been to. The Tex Mex food must have been off the charts. Good job finding a cave pops would go into. LOL!!😂
If you go to SA, go in early Spring. A summer visit would be way too hot. There is plenty to do. Make sure to visit Southtown and King William. You all should have gone to La Gloria at The Pearl! Great place for Mexican food and drinks!
How to spot tourists in San Antonio: when you drive by the boots and see people around them 😁. Long time resident from the area here. The city needs to figure out how to make that area safer since there is the exit from the mall right there. For good puffy tacos, go to Henry's Puffy Tacos or Los Barrios restaurant.
I have no desire to visit San Antonio but I did enjoy your video. My father and I used to take trips together before he passed and I just think it is so special how you and your father travel together! And I loved the part on the missions. Those poor monks-their cells looks so uncomfortable!!
You have to visit the Botanical Garden Also the Japanese Tea Garden which is free, The Caverns , Six Flags, Sea World and La Cantera, Shopping Center! For Hotels , there are different must visit Resorts like , Hyatt Hill Contry, La Cantera Resort, Hilton Resort with Water Park and Eilan Hotel, for restaurants I recommended El Chaparral and if you travel a little towards Austin is the Best BBQ ever at the Salt Lick in Driftwood Tx , Enjoy!!!
3:20 The number of rattles in the tail only signifies how many times the snake has shed is skin. This number is NOT a one to one ratio with years. Given a favorable environment the snake may shed more often than a year. Alternatively the rattles at the tip dry from age, get brittle, and break off. So if you see a snake for example with 10 rattles. It might be 10 years old. It might also be 15, or 5. It is safe to say its not 2 or 30. So while this can be used to ballpark their age its an accurate method of aging the snake.
I live in downtown San Antonio. Love being able to walk to the river walk in the mornings when it's calm and quiet or in the evening for a night out.
