Like, it was really close to being good but the systems just don't quite work right.
Honestly the issue of whether they fight in formation in TES is a surprisingly frequently debated one.
I am on the side that formation fighting is completely dead in TES, because AOE magic would very quickly render that non-viable, similar to how modern explosives have done that in the real world.
Did you know that, in Morrowind, Daedric Armor is so heavy that it is impossible to make a character who can carry a full set at the start of the game.

@@itsabug4274 Maybe or maybe the Nerevar's changes occurred only because they were kicked out of the polycule? Having such a thing happen does tend to be the proving grounds of a person staying stagnant or changing for the better or worse.
I know this has already been said a million times before but the idea of Morrowind going from a political and philosophical drama where the world as we know it hangs in a four-way balance between a centuries old continent-spanning empire, a theocracy governed by actual gods, the rogue god that betrayed them, and the ever-reincarnating champion sent to defeat him to just two guys hanging out is so goddamn good. It's like watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy and then right before they finally get to Mount Doom it becomes some stoner comedy movie where Frodo and Sauron are like "you know what, fuck it" and just become roommates and the ring is never mentioned again.
I would genuinely watch a whole full length series of Dagoth Ur and the Argonian Nerevar where every episode is them getting into some ridiculous sitcom situation and they just fuck around and talk about random shit until the issue just resolves itself. Seinfeld but written by Michael Kirkbride.

I feel the same way. Most of the time I play is spent looking up special rules and then finding out a new rule is now outdated after a month. It's ridiculous how much bloat there is and how quickly things change.
Strategems honestly feel like I'm playing MTG as well as Warhammer. "Ah but I have a strategem that does this and this"
Ended up just getting into Age of Sigmar instead and it's just so much better in that regard. People call it "casual" but there's a lot less bullshit between you and playing the game.

Back in the early days of 40k, if you want to reverse a tank, you needed to bring a PROTRACTOR. Current Ed is very very simplified.

Unironically Age of Sigmar is great for this. There's a lot less homework between you and playing the game and the game itself has condensed strategems into heroic actions which is a universal set of actions only heroes can use. That and while shooting does exist it's generally rarer.
AoS and HH are a lot more simplified. Or you could try to go for Kill Team. More details but significantly less rules and shorter games. Plus there is the rumor that they are simplifying the hell out of everything next edition with a rules reset and the WE codex being a test one to see if it would work in 40k.

No warhammer 40k video better captures my feelings about the game as much as i love my necron army i feel like im getting quiz and remember which part of my rules beat their rule that beats mine that beats theirs it feels like quizzical counterplay rather than real stratagy sometimes using your stratagems to force you win that cant be defended unless you have the specific counter comp only developed after the fact when people are getting disproportionately destroyed making you need to learn a bunch of new changed rules from the newest hotfix

Why in the god damn is this so accurate it makes me angry, next do one over the very rigid rule and setup for Fallout 2d20 I am getting ready to dm a campaign and there are parts that make my head spin.
Dagoth Ur, Grimdark Future One Page Rules exist! If you just want to put toys on the board, throw them at the each other, and roll dice then give it a shot. You can even use your own mini's you already have and they have sigmar armies in 40k, Like you can play as Space Skaven or even Saurian Starho- Yeah saurian as in dinosua- well no modern science says that they're more similar to birds and than liz- you know what fine. I don't have the fuckin time to listen to another Argonian rant, My skooma wearing off and I have walk into a wall to skill up Athletics later today, Have fun in 10th edition.

I'll be honest I collected 2k points of Imperial guard for building and painting for a covid hobby and as a person who barely passed math glass in school and loathes text book style learning over hands on or visual learning I have no absolute clue what the hell to do with these little plastic army men.
Might I recommend Kill Team? It's a great 40k system, and you can collect a bunch of different factions for much cheaper than a full 40k army.

Good news Lord Dagoth! With the new 10th edition, a lot of that malakath has gone away with the indexes.
My motivation to get out of high school is that i shall never have to face another mathematical quest that makes me despise my incompentece in mathematical thinking and question my intelligence as a human, and then i fell into the hell hole that is warhammer 40k tabletop. I hate numbers.

@@dosbueno2gud i feel you there, fuck 8th. Though in my honest opinion, it remedied most of what made 8th so bad (magic in bigger battles, initiative and how cav works)
Ya gotta play 9th edition actively, and limit yourself to one, or two at max armies, so you can actually remember how your army works. This goes for both players, and is the secret of how to have fun in 9th (and actually get a 2000 point game wrapped up in 3 hours).
There is unneccessary bloat in the game though, no way to argue against that. Why have 30+ strategems, when most factions only ever use 10 of them tops? Just bake the more niche ones into the profiles themselves. Why does death guard have a srategem for making bolters into plague weapons, or one for making a character explode into mortals on death like a wet boil full of pus? Both of these sound like things you should just expect to happen with DG, so they are flavourful, and easy to remember.

All my friends who just got into 40k refuse to actually buy or play 40k 😆 They paint 10-20 models every month and build tons of terrain, but it all goes towards the 1990's edition of Necromunda or OPR Grimdark games.
The correct approach (though I'm not new, went on a hiatus during 5th and came back to a dumpster fire). I'm partial to 3rd edition myself.

@@dosbueno2gud It's like a marginally more polished version of sigmar 1.0, which is fine but it's hardly a replacement for a feature complete miniatures wargame with all the fixins. Sad there's no viable intermediary between the two extremes of 'zero rules' and 'infinite rules'.
GF is cool but after 3 games most factions feel basically the same and the game runs out of stuff to do

How it feels to try and learn 9e as a beginner
Exactly why I prefer Age of Sigmar tbh. There's less homework and generally a very fixed list of what you can take. At most you just have to make a note of a command trait, artefacts and then your faction abilities. Instead of strategems you've got heroic actions which are a much smaller universal list everybody uses. With very few factions deviating from that.
That and you don't spend three hours agonising over every individual point spent on individual model weapons. Thank god.

GW tak komplikuje zasady, że gra jest tylko nieco bardziej przejrzysta niż prawo podatkowe w Polsce. Szachy wymagają myślenia, a aktualne edycje Warhammera raczej ciągłego śledzenia i memoryzacji nowości, kolejnych FAQ, kodeksów i tak dalej. Połączonej ze śledzeniem YT bo może jakiś powergamer coś niszczącego system wymyśli.
A ten Dagoth Ur, "narrative player" przyszedł jedynie poturlać kostkami, odpocząć, spotkać się z przyjacielem i dobrze się bawić przy piwku.
A jego największym grzechem, wręcz "śmiertelnym", jest to iż nie ma odwagi krzyknąć "je*ać to" i wyjść ze swej strefy komfortu do jakiejś innej gry. Tylko nadal chce męczyć tego Warhammera...

GW makes the rules so complicated that the game is only slightly more transparent than the tax law in Poland. Chess requires thinking, and the current editions of Warhammer rather constant tracking and memoryization of news, new FAQs, codexes and so on. Combined with YT tracking because maybe some powergamer will create some powerful "mini-max"
And this Dagoth Ur, the "narrative player", just came to roll dices, rest, meet a friend and have a good time with a beer.
And his biggest sin, even "mortal", is that he doesn't have the guts to yell "fuck it" and step out of his comfort zone for some other game. I just still want to get tired of this Warhammer...
