Mudcrab does not despawn; however, he, Creeper, and other NPCs moved from their normal locations with Command Humanoid or Command Creature can sometimes clip through the floor or walls and end up falling through the void, until they are far enough below the player that the game stops updating their position. If this happens then the only fix is to use console commands to apply Levitate or Slowfall (so they don't die from fall damage) and then teleport them back near the player. I think the way to prevent it is to not leave these NPCs in interior cells, always move them outside after transporting them with the guild guide (I have even had a guild guide glitch out and get stuck running into the walls until they clip through them when teleported back to their starting cell).
