    Attaching the cable end/ball to the door handle on the door panel would have helped a whole bunch. That 'step' can be very challenging!

    Here’s a tip to save you a bunch of time! Don’t take the whole latch out of the door and disconnect the rods. Just unscrew the latch and pull it back just enough to disconnect and connect the cables.

    Do we just skip the part where you connected back to the door handle?

  • @jeffaxel181
    @jeffaxel181 4 года назад +23

    Thank you for this video but it has WAY TOO MANY UNNECESSARY STEPS!!! Skip between 7:00 and 8:07. This is NOT NEEDED! If you try to undo that yellow plastic clip that goes on the rod that goes up to the door lock most likely you'll break it - and because of the power window assembly on my truck I literally couldn't get my hand in there regardless. You don't need to use the pick tool to pop off that other rod either. Go to the 8:07 point where he undoes the torx screws. Undo those. The latch assembly is not very tight in there and you can easily pull the latch assembly forward towards the open area of the door (front of the truck direction) and you can get at the latch to replace the door handle cable. Now skip to 10:50 and watch to 11:40 to see how to remove the broken cable and put the new one in. Place the latch where it was and screw the torx screws back in. Now skip forward to 15:55 since all he is doing between 11:40 and 15:55 is reassembling the stuff he didn't need to disassemble in the first place. Resume watching at 15:55 and put everything back together. (This video also works for power windows as I have those in my 2011 Silverado - just be sure your power windows are up before starting this process- and I find the cable to window controls on the door panel are long enough you don't have to disconnect those to do this cable replacement either).

    Looks like he skipped the part where the cable attaches to interior of the panel. All this work, and you would still find yourself having to roll down the window to open from the outside.

      If you are referring to the inside of the door handle, wouldn't that be a given since you just hook cable back up in reverse of taking it out? The video worked fine for me.

    I watch e different videos which did not help they always cut the scene and then the next clip its out in her hand.
    But by watching these videos it helped me.
    I just disconnected the yellow clip took the three bolts out of the door lock, then you can pull the lock out where you can get a needle nose flyer to pull the cable off it was a breeze.
    Total job took less than 45 minutes

      Actually, With smaller hands you can align the left end cable up with the hole, insert it and push on the cable right end and the ball will extend further on the left, door mechanism side. The v notch is spring loaded, just let the cable end get caught behind and you are half way there.
      No need to remove 3 30 star bolts or manual lock bar from inside. Put the foam panel back in place. Then you can place right end cable ball in hole with needle nose plyers. THATS about it.

    You don't have to do all of this, forget the rods, not necessary.
    As soon as you get the panel off take the the three bolts out of lock mechanism, push forward to opening in door, change out cable, reassemble.

I've installed the cable, put everything back together, and tested the interior handle, 4 times. Does not open the door. Pull everything apart again and the ball on the end of the cable at the door lock has pulled out of the Y-shaped fitting. It will not stay in.

    Overall ok but misses the boat where he loosens both vertical rods to the cylinder lock and the plunger lock. No need to do this, plus its a pain. Just skip those steps and remove the 3 external bolts holding the latch itself on. Once this is done the latch itself has enough play to access it and remove and install the new cable
