I know you posted this video a while back, but it's the best one I've found for replacing the handle. You covered things that others never mentioned. I'm replacing the right rear exterior handle on my '08 Sierra 2500HD tomorrow. Thanks for making a very informative and helpful video! Really appreciate it!
Excellent instructive video. Thorough. Helpful multiple camera angles. Clear English. Sped up the tedious parts. Even included a handy hack for keeping a bolt in the socket! One of the best auto repair video I’ve used. Nice tool explanation at the end.
Good video BUT what I had to do was figure out that there is an adjustment, when I first installed the handles, when I pulled it it was a little jiggly some were tighter some looser ,if you search on RUclips or anywhere else, nobody tells you this you can adjust the handle the rod that goes to the handle, so put the handle in ,install it see how much slop you have take it back out and adjust the rod by turning it counterclockwise I think I did , this adjustment would probably be for Amazon or OEM as well. I hope this helps people. Good luck. Cheers👍❤️💪
Thank you. It was a great help and only took about 20 mins to finish. I only changed two things slightly. Before removing the latch to the interior door, I popped out two of the yellow clips to that I could set it on the ground. Since I was doing a front door, I took a photos of all of the extra connectors to make sure I put them back right
Best video out there for installing these year model door handles. I’ve watched many videos. I’ve got a pack of 4 coming from Amazon coming now and they will be here Thursday. Some crackheads broke her front passenger door handle trying to get in while visiting her sister in Kentucky last weekend and the back door handles have been limping on two broken out pieces so this helps out tremendously. 👍👍👍👍
Thank you. Left rear door of a 2013 Avalanche. Your video was spot on. I had a little difficulty with disconnecting the window wiring harness and the cable. Other than that repair went well - took me closer to an hour but I didn't rush. I'm sure when he next one breaks it'll take me half the time. Great video!
Just watched the walk through video, very helpful tips, took 30min tops, if I didn’t watch this i would about 1 1/2 hrs and a broke door 😮, thx so much
I can't thank you enough for such a step by step amazing video. $29cdn amazon part, and your 16 min video saved me hundreds from the shop. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much! LOVED YOUR VIDEO! The step by step really helped me!! Never thought me being a woman could have done this but I kicked it’s butt! 🎉😂😊
Great job. Thanks for the very helpful and well put together video. It would have been much more difficult but your clear and step by step instructions were spot on.
Appreciate the help! Great upload. Only thing I would add, is put some shop towels in the bottom of the door, I just spent an hour fishing out my handle bolt! Lol
A cheap fix for this problem is taking 4-5 small strips of Tacky Tape. Mine was made by Schnee-Morehead but its a grey sticky tack. I needed a quick fix and placing it under the door handle where the door handle pressure points touch the door of the car. I did not place it on the edges of the door handle, only the places underneath that were not visible. Works great. Have not ran through a car wash with it. Peels off when you actually want it to if you were to finally fix it. HEAT does change its properties. If your this deep, you might not care about your paint, although I can't prove it will even affect it at all.
Great tutorial! Ive replaced these things twice now. Its a terrible design for sure but ill make sure i get that lip pushed under and hopefully it will last longer.
I could have replaced the door handle without this video. BUT the panel would have been jacked up as I would have broken all the clips on the back of the door. 😂. So thank you so much for this AWESOME VIDEO !
Great video! I just changed out 2 door back door handles in 15 minutes each cause of this video 📹. I just learned if the handle does not slide on easy you can use a small drill bid and drill and make the slide a little more loose so it slides in and fits rather working so hard. Now onto the front driver side handle
Thanks for the great guidance! Worked perfectly “except” the search for the dropped bolt… there is a small ledge mid way up the door and the it layer. 😂
Excellent and informative video, love the tips , much better vid than A1 Auto. I am going to replace my body colored outside handles on my 2007 LTZ to chromed handles. Thanks!
Video was great! Did both drivers side handles (2011 GMC 1500 Denali) fine. DId rear passenger side and door won't open from either side. (tested fine w/o panel back on) Finally got it open by rolling window down, prying panel trim back and pulling the cable/ball back off and giving it a yank. But, what causes the handles to not work when you put the panel back on?? lol Somehow in the process the window actuator (cable) bound up, so ordered a new one of those. Hope when it's all back together everything works..
Just replaced the handle on my 2012 Yukon. Thank you for the video. One question though, does the little black cap, that covers the access to the one screw for removing the handle, serve any other purpose? Only asking because I realized I didn't put it back on after I had the door panel put fully back on
My son installed it worked tested, but when he reinstalled panel door handle won’t open. He took apart from inside manually push on rod and opened door. Tested again and worked. Reinstalled panel again and again handle wouldn’t open door 😡 any suggestions? I’m going to take apart again to open door TIA
@@jester2428 Same here. Just followed these instructions and when I closed the door to test, it would not open. Now, I'm stuck. I will try "pushing on the rod" (whatever that means) and see if it works.
I gave you a thumbs-up, subscribed and bookmarked your page. Excellent Video. Thanks for helping me save money on the 4-pack. Can't wait to check out more of your other videos.
I found you don't have to (and it's easier) if you don't try to press in both tabs on the cable fitting at the same time. You can press in one and cock the fitting so that it doesn't re-expand and then rotate the fitting around to where the other is easily accessible and just push down on it with a screwdriver and it will pop right out
You figure it out? Think you may have put the orange tab too close to the bottom of the threading on the linkage. It's a similar effect as to holding the handle out when unlocking the door. It will remain locked. To fix this, remove the trim and get a tool with an L shape in between the window and door frame from the outside. Pull up on the orange tab and linkage to fully close the door latch. The latch should then unlock and then you could open from the inside or outside. Pull the door back apart and assemble the orange tab closer to the top of the linkage. Give a couple test runs open and close/lock and unlock with the panel off till it's adjusted right.
I did this on my 07' Cadillac escalade passenger side and everything was put back correctly but whenever I go to lock it with the key fob, the door does not open. neither the inside nor outside door handle will open the door. I keep having to unlock it manually with a rod through the window panel. Any ideas on why this is happening?
It's the actuator mechanism. You put the orange tab on with too much tension. From the outside without the trim on, use a rod or strong wire with a u shaped hook on the end and pull up (if orange tab adjusted too low on the linkage, or down (if orange tab adjusted too high) on the orange tab so the latch can fully open. The door should be able to open. Tear the door back apart and adjust the orange tab on the rod with slight tension. Do a couple of test open and close of the door and lock and unlock before re assembly of the panel.
Great instructions. All went fine until the inside panel was back on and door closed. Neither outside or inside handle will now open the door. Not sure I can get the panel off with the door closed? Any helpful comments would be appreciated !
I had the same issue. Problem is when you clamped the orange tab into place on the rod, it was too low or high. Best to have little tension on the rod and leave some threading (less than 1/4") above before closing the clamshell tab. So to open, roll the window down. Then pull the trim off (with care). Then roll the window all the way back up and (outside the suv) go between the bottom window and body panel with a tool to push down on the orange tab from above. That should open the latch. If you clamped the orange tab to where the handle is too tight, the orange tab needs to go up a little to release the lock. It's similar to situations when pulling a handle when unlocking a car, causing the latch to not open.
Thank you for a very informative and very thorough video the couple of tips the (tape) for example is very helpful, and yes Sir I save a couple hundred of dollars.. More power to you Sir and GODBLESS 😇🙏
With the window down, pull the trim piece off. Roll the window back up and stick a long flathead or similar tool down on the orange tab linkage till the door opens. Flashlight helps a lot even in daylight.
In my case I couldn't open my door AND the lock rod was missing. The (pain in the arse) cable that he releases at around 5 ish minutes can be pulled toward the front seat to open your door. It will feel tight so just use some pliers. Opens it no problem when no handles are available.
I know you posted this video a while back, but it's the best one I've found for replacing the handle. You covered things that others never mentioned. After seeing your video, now we can all (handle) it. Thx.
I see what you did there 😂. It's very simple you got this 👍
Haha went to the comments just to like this!! 😂😂😂 cute
I approve
Best video for the job
Great video, watched it and just replaced my 2011 Tahoe door handle. Thanks!

Superb i tructions, THANK YOU! You're instructions were spot on and we got the handle changed in approximately 15-20 minutes.
Grrat video and instructions. Thanks for explaining. Took my anxiety down several levels after i completed the job.

Worth watching just for the tape on the socket tip. Thanks!
Thank you for this video! I wouldn’t have been able to replace my handle without it!
Appreciate the help! Great upload. Only thing I would add, is put some shop towels in the bottom of the door, I just spent an hour fishing out my handle bolt! Lol
I think I'll have a better "Grip" on things after this awesome vid! Thank you seriously!

Even giving a quick once-over with cleaner afterwards. Thats a pro!
thank you very much. We try. ;)
Great tutorial! Ive replaced these things twice now. Its a terrible design for sure but ill make sure i get that lip pushed under and hopefully it will last longer.
Awesome video. Thank you for pointing out that it needs to "slide" into that small lip in the middle to secure it. I would not have known that :)
Nice job. You really make it look easy
Wow💥 Thank you Very" much!! We really apreciate You sharing your time, your tools, and your experienced' skills, with us 🛠
I could have replaced the door handle without this video. BUT the panel would have been jacked up as I would have broken all the clips on the back of the door. 😂. So thank you so much for this AWESOME VIDEO !
I reviewed four or five videos before I tackled this job. In my opinion, this one was the best! Thanks so much for your help!

LET'S GO TJ....🏁yup..Saturn Sky handles are notorious for breaking.....
Thanks for the instructions! Just ordered the 4 pack and interior handles as well.
Neat trick u showed w the take and bolt so it doesn't fall
Best video I’ve seen. Thank you for this.
Nice trick with the tape to hold the bolt in the socket! Mind blown! 🤯
Great job! No nonsense, matter of fact style . Real talent!

Hi, I changed mine & for some reason my driver door and passenger door won’t open. Can someone help me fix my doors ?
Thanks for the video! Ordered my part from Amazon and got it changed in under a hour!
Glad I could help!
3 of my plastic GM door handles have broken. Good job GM

50 bucks a 4 pack !? My local parts store cost me 78$! Great video , thank you !
Thank god for you nd thank god for RUclips thank you so much easy video to go by !!!
Thanks for a great video. That project is done!
Awesome video!! Just replaced my 2009 Tahoe rear driver side handle. Thx
Thanks for your video!!!!! Worked exactly as shown.
Very Well Explained . easy to follow
Worked like a champ. Thanks buddy
Just replaced the handle on my 2012 Yukon. Thank you for the video. One question though, does the little black cap, that covers the access to the one screw for removing the handle, serve any other purpose? Only asking because I realized I didn't put it back on after I had the door panel put fully back on
Only to help insulate and reduce moisture from getting in. Not really useful though.
Thanks for this great video, it made it easy to install the new one.
At 6:13 it's weird that GM put that grommet there. It serves zero purpose!
Yeah, who knows why they do what they do. Thanks for watching.
My son installed it worked tested, but when he reinstalled panel door handle won’t open. He took apart from inside manually push on rod and opened door. Tested again and worked. Reinstalled panel again and again handle wouldn’t open door 😡 any suggestions? I’m going to take apart again to open door
TIA
@@jester2428 Same here. Just followed these instructions and when I closed the door to test, it would not open. Now, I'm stuck. I will try "pushing on the rod" (whatever that means) and see if it works.

Video is great : How do you take up the slack on the handle
Very helpful video! Thanks for posting
I found you don't have to (and it's easier) if you don't try to press in both tabs on the cable fitting at the same time. I changed my 2012 2500 denial rear Driver’s door handle it worked good till the automatic lock locked now want open.
Do you need to disconnect the battery? I've seen other videos that disconnect the battery
No, never did and all is fine.
Had this same issue today. I think it’s the lock. If the panel is not seat correctly the lock gets stuck
I need to change my handle in my truck GMC Denali 2012 is broken upside
So what if handle is broke and door doesn't open can't seem to find any videos on that ????
The nuts under the handle are not budging, they also shredded little metal flakes while trying to loosen them. Any help to get these off?
Thank You! Excellent!😊
Thank You. Ice Storm helped to break mine haha
Bout to do my 07 Denali and 08 Tahoe. Not sure how my 2000 Silverado handles have outlived both lol
Do you have part a number and where to get the 4 pack
GM Door Handles: amzn.to/3sZJWQt
Interior Trim Tools: amzn.to/3u72ZcX
Thank you, Kind, Sir!!!
what about the driver door lock cylinder replacement?
I have to replace the handle on a 2013 Avalanche. Im looking for that answer as well
@wyliejones4260 there is great video on youtube
Great work bud
Thanks for the visit
Great video. Thank you so much.
Very helpful, thank you so much!!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Awesome work! 7mm not a 10mm though
Thank you, worked on mine
Excellent Video! Thanks!
Helped me replace mine,,, I appreciate it! Thank you
Good video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video thank you
I have a 2012 Chevy Tahoe Z71 that has the driver side and passenger side front door armrest pull broken do you have a fix for that. Thanks Gary
What is the power tool?
YES! I would like to know as well.
Great video, I would have cleaned the dirt under the old handle just to have the best seal.
Well done.
Awesome thank you
Incredible
Good job
Thank you
What website did you purchase the 4 pack from ?
Can buy them at some O Riley or autozone
Very helpful thanks
You're welcome!
Great video my door was slightly different but this helped immensely.
Chido papy, Gracias
Good video
I wish I had this video before I replaced mine. Good job
10:25 I would still manage to drop it 😂
The pull rod on front and rear are different lengths
Did all that door still won’t open from inside
So why ain’t it opening from inside
Thank you for a very informative and very thorough video the couple of tips the (tape) for example is very helpful, and yes Sir I save a couple hundred of dollars.. More power to you Sir and GODBLESS 😇🙏
some have a billet option as well
nice 👍
awesome
Glad to help.
I have Honda door handles. They are on a Honda! 😀 172,000 miles. Last GM car I bought was my '65 Corvair.
Wow, a Corvair. Dangerous at Any Speed. Great car. Thanks for watching.
Awesome
What happens if you close it and it doesn't work and the child lock is activated and now you can't open the door at all? 😢😢
With the window down, pull the trim piece off. Roll the window back up and stick a long flathead or similar tool down on the orange tab linkage till the door opens. Flashlight helps a lot even in daylight.
What if I can’t get the door open?
If the door handle is broken already, pull up on the rod and pull the door open at the same time. Thanks for watching.
That’s my problem, exterior handle broke and interior handle doesn’t open door
In my case I couldn't open my door AND the lock rod was missing. The (pain in the arse) cable that he releases at around 5 ish minutes can be pulled toward the front seat to open your door. It will feel tight so just use some pliers. Opens it no problem when no handles are available.
