This is the only video I found that actually showed me how to take the cable off. Everyone else just says take the clip off and doesn’t show it. Thank you sir!
And no one else explain how to put on the handle. I had a hard time figuring out how it has to be attached to the mechanism till I saw your bid!. Thanks .Keep up the good work 👏 .
agreed!! every other video is just--- bing/bang/boom! you're done! (He shows the issues you may run into)
Same here thanks brother!
I had to change my outside door handle after an attempted break in to my truck. Watched countless videos and you showed several things in greater detail. Just wanted to to thank you for taking the extra time to cover the little things.
Glad it helped.
Great to see that all I have to do to remove the switches for replacement. Is I just need to remove the door pull bar off. Then I can access the switches. Great video!!! At least I also know how to take the entire panel off. Going to have to remove the pass side rear panel to find out why the speaker doesn't work. Pretty much the same process as the front panel. Thanks for posting this detailed video!!!😊
Well done. I like that you would show all the little details that other videos just gloss over. Thanks. Dealership wanted $700+ for the whole panel + labor. Got the parts and shipping for $45ish. Update. Completed the job but unfortunately I broke the little tab where the cable retainer connects. Took it all apart, pulled the new metal piece and put it in the old unit and reinstalled. Works fine. Hopefully the little screws and superglue hold. Great video thanks
You do a great job with explanation of these processes that can't be filmed. You show remarkable patience with some of these fiddling projects.
I spent a good amount of time on this video to make sure it the best one on RUclips. Hopefully it will pay off and help others.
@@mossman381 I'm sure it will
@@mossman381 So far as I've seen, it is! Thanks very much!
The most in depth,, informative video I've seen for these!!!! Thank You!!!
Thanks for the video and that link! HOWEVER (I'm Monday morning quarterbacking here but I just did this a half hour ago so I speak from experience) to make this WAY EASIER at the 20:20 mark you just needed to undo the three torx screws that holds the latch. The latch assembly in there is not tight. It can easily be pulled to that open area where you hand is at 20:20 and you can slip the new yellow end of the cable into the groove. No pick tool needed, no messing around trying to get back into that hidden area which is impossible to see or get at for anyone with large hands. Now put the latch back where it belongs and screw the torx screws back in. Then move on to attach the other end of the cable to the inside handle per the rest of your great video!
Jeff Axel Hey brother, thanks for leaving that comment. This guy did a great job on this video, but when I saw my cable was also broke I remembered seeing your comment. I did as you suggested on the latch and the cable went right on with no issues. You saved me some time. 👍🏼
That was a help to would’ve taken me longer then 20 mins to do so
Awesome video buddy. Exactly what I needed. One sticky part was trying to pinch the holders to get the cable out of its holder. I improvised and used a Dremel tool and carefully whittled away at the plastic. I was able to save my cable and this went on and off like a breeze. I greatly appreciate your precise instructions! Thank you!
Glad it helped
Thanks for the video and tutorial. I had the inside door handle on the pass side quit working on my 2103 Silverado. I suspected the cable and you video was great in getting me prepped for the job. It was indeed the cable and it was broken about 2" down from the handle side where the plastic connector is attached to the outer black cable. There was a bit if a kink there and that contributed to the cable binding a bit and finally giving out after 9 years. I have the Dorman part on order. It is the same from driver side as pass side. I will get it installed next week when I receive it. Thanks again.
Thank you for your time making that video because you absolutely help me I was stumped on how to get that handle off that door panel God bless you
This video is great, lots of detail and pictures Made the replacement go a lot smoother, especially the cable, Don't over drill the plastic rivets, careful with the (fragile) clips on electric connectors on and recommend getting (slightly) longer screws and give glue time to dry.
Thanks for the heads up on different cable lengths @19:30. That issue and then showing the yellow clip are things I didn't see in other content.
Glad to help
A true testament to gm’s build quality after bankruptcy..
NorthTexasFarming no kidding. 2011 and mine broke
Thank you for this video, saved me 250 bucks.
Glad to help.
Great detail not seen in other "how to" videos. Well done. I got mine replaced thanks to your video and made a Paypal donation. Would have used your links but I had purchased the part a few months ago. Got tired of opening my door from the outside. Haha.
Thanks, yeah using the outside handle gets old.
Thank you couldnt figure out the door handle wire everywhere else I looked had a vague explanation, it's my first time taking one off so thanks again.
Thank you sir. Your detailed video made the job a breeze.
Excellent video brother. Thank you. My 2013 handle snapped off. Although there are several videos on this, yours was bar far the best. Thanks for the detailed descriptions and views.
Glad it helped
Great video! I don’t think it could be any more complete. Thank you!!
Very informative video. Helped me replace the broken spring in mine. Plastic plastic and more plastic...never pulled a panel that the handle stays on the panel. Junk, cheap. Chevrolet should be ashamed.
Very loyal dog you got there!
I was disappointed with use of plastic in areas that should have more strength. They had a great design in the last generation. I don't think I ever heard of people breaking a door handle on the 99-07 trucks.
Who would thumbs down this video? Perfect how-to video. Thank you!
There are a lot of angry people in this world. People that just hate everything. I feel sorry for those people.
Excellent tutorial, hope to see you making more
Excellent!!
Nice job Mossman, I think most people who work on cars hate working inside door panels. Every one has similarity's but still different. I don't think I've ever done one without "giving blood" in the process.
It's not to bad if you know where all the clips are and how the cable works. Going in blind can make the job harder than it is. It was really hard to see the one end of the cable. You might be able to unbolt the door latch but then you probably need to unhook everything that goes to it.
Made me laugh
Gave blood today doing this
Very detailed and and helpful video!
Thanks mossman381. I have a failed component on my door actuator and used your instructions to get to it. Very helpful. Thank you!
Thanks for the excellent quality video and all the little extra stuff you showed and explained.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video. I needed to replace the aluminum part of the handle that the cable hooks to. I didn’t know they’re was a kit till watching the video. A quick trip to Napa and I’m back in business!
Glad to help.
Thanks, you helped me Today, great instructions,
Glad to help
Excellent video! Great tips for removal and installation.
Good Job My friend !! TY,,, Mine is a 2010 same thing ,,,
Thanks I did it less then 20 mins !
Great video. good detail. lots of help. thanks. Val.
best step by step video out there for this thank you so much and i also have to replace my cable smh
Excellent video
Glad you liked it.
Thank you you saved me so much money ❤️😓
Good job on the vid, very useful. Now I have to tear it apart and see what broke, first thought is handle, but might be cable. Was backing up to a trailer jump out a couple times and uh oh can't get out now haha. Then on top of it, the Drivers window switches won't put up pass side windows. Go down but not up...ok not end of world. Now the Drivers window will go down but sometimes not up. Gotta play with the switch for a couple minutes then it works fine. So can't roll window down cuz it might not go up, and inside handle is child locked haha.
Sounds like you need a new switch panel. Dad has to play with his rear window switch to get it to work sometimes.
@@mossman381 Yea I watched some other vids and read comments. Apparently the switches fail a lot, so we'll see what happens with a new one.
Great how-to video, my outer door handle on my driver door has a lot of play in it just from wear and tear, truck has a lot of miles. Now I know what it's gonna take to get the inside of the door apart!
i dont know if you KNOW this about yourself, ..but you are in an elite realm of communications, ..i would call you a wizzo.
I bet yer damn dawg is Smrt too
WOW that was Awesome THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH for this video it's going to help me out SO MUCH..! 👍
Excellent details. I feel better informed. Keep up the good work
Thanks very helpful 👍
The pup thinks your doing a great job
Nice video except both my handles are broken now.....I got as far as removing the panel....is it possible to remove it without being able to open the door?
I don't know if that is possible. Maybe if you remove the seat. Don't know if that is possible without opening the door.
Good video bro it help alot
Ok, I followed instructions and all was well, until I did not snap the little ball with the cable (wire on it) back into place; I shut the door, now I can't open it in any way. Any suggestions? It seems I will have to take it to a shop to get the door panel off. Impossible for me to take it off when the door will not open. Dumb me.
Outside handle should still open the door.
Any suggestions on best place to buy (best price) handle replacement? Our handle just snapped off.
I think I have links in the video description for parts. Your local auto parts stores probably have them but I doubt they are cheaper than Amazon.
The plastic fitting nearest the cable ball can be a major pain to remove. Needle now pliers, squeezing and still no release
Liked for the dogs help
Thanks mate
Excellent video. Thank you!
Hey wat size is the cable because is 3 different size I need one my truck is gmc Sierra 2012 1500 thank
Not sure of the size. Didn't know there was other sizes.
@@mossman381 ok thanks
Hell of a job. Dog had fun thanks
What did you use to compress the two tabs on the cable on the actuator?
Probably just some needle noose pliers. Really whatever you can get in there.
awesome
Does anyone know what’s the name of the thing where de little ball goes?
Rusty is like, my boy can fix anything, lol. Come on man tell me, how did you get Rusty so interested? You had to stuck a cookie in the door jam. HA! Good buy Rusty good boy.
Rusty has always been interested in what I am doing. If you look 5 years or so ago at the video I did of installing new flooring. You will see him doing the same thing. That was when I first got him.
how you opened the door?
The outside handle.
Thx cuz I didn’t get instructions with my replacement
I have Manual windows how do you get it off so you can pull panel off ?
There should be a small clip holding the handle on. They sell a tool to help get it out.
So did someone break the handle before you got the truck? Or did someone try to do a job a broke the handle? What does rusty say!!!
It was working fine when dad got the truck. Then one day it was broke. Nobody has admitted they broke it but we are pretty sure we know who did.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
What’s the name of that pull cover with the 2 10mm bolts I’m missing my nuts from the inside?
I am not sure of the official name. Not sure what you even mean missing the nuts inside??
These door handles are a JOKE!!!!!!! I took my 2011 to Chevy and they wanted $1,100 to repair the door.... I laughed at the guy....There should be a recall or life long replacement ....
The GM dealer will replace the whole door panel. That is why they quoted you that number.
It cost so much because Chevy doesn't make a OEM door handle kit. You have to replace the complete door panel and thats what cost so much as I aske the dealer myself lucky for me its just the cable.
Newer the truck the more difficult the job becomes. I’ll stick to my older trucks
It's not to bad if you know where all the clips are and how the cable works. Going in blind makes the job a lot harder. I do like the 99-07 door panels much better.
Leave it to Chevy to over engineer something that should be easy
I was hoping I could get to the cable at least so I could get a vice grip on it and release the door latch..
It would be nice if they would stop making their parts so darn cheap (plastic) and remove that door locking device that traps you in your vehicle if not in park....or you didn't have time or thought to unlock it before jerking on the door handle to open it while done irate person is yelling at you for trying to back up a foot to get in t o a parking slot
GM really messed up these new handles. The old ones never broke. They could have just redesigned the handle. I disagree with not having the auto lock. That has probably saved a ton of peoples lives. My dad watched someone get out of and older truck which didn't have the auto lock and the truck started rolling away. It was rolling towards a group of kids eating ice cream. He tried to stop the truck but couldn't get in it while it was moving. He did get the steering wheel turned so the truck turned away from the kids and ended up hitting his truck that was parked around the corner. I can't really think of a way to open the door with both handles broke without breaking the door panel or maybe door handle.
Go video
Does anyone know the size of the screws used in the replacement handle?
Didn't pay attention to the size when installing.
@@mossman381 damn ok thanks anyway.
