    Hello friends! I am back now, and wanted to post a quick comment to update you on how I used these supplies! I only did 2 pump site changes while on vacation (as expected) and came home with 3 extra sites. This is ok, since it's always good to have backups in case of site failures or cancelled flights. I also did 1 Dexcom sensor change while there. As for things I wish I would have packed... more Dexcom tapes!! The heat and humidity in CR made it challenging to keep my Dexcom sensor on, and I ended up having to change it early because it fell off lol. As always, thank you so much for watching and for your support with these videos! I will be posting more about my T1D and this trip on Instagram, so give me a follow to see more about the trip itself :)

      GREAT, thanks. Hey, the liquid glucose vials in the US are $1.48 at Walmart. Also, Walmart's gummy-like candy is more effective than flat discs. It also takes real coordination to open those 2 "chalk" candy packs and each is only 10 discs (40 grams total).

    Hi Michelle, a while ago I told you that your highs of 10 are my lows, am happy to share that they are more controlled now and after being on the high side of the hba1c test like over 14 now they are lower at 8 and am aiming for even lower. It's all thanks to you helping me realize I can do anything, achieve anything and go anywhere with proper management, so thank you.

    Great video and thanks for sharing. As a parent with a son with T1D I always find your videos very informative and helpful. Good list of supplies. I don’t think an extra pump is overkill at all!! Very smart. and I always go overboard when packing for vacations. Especially a lake or ocean vacation. Probably twice as more as you cause I am always nervous and he’s 10. My fear when I travel is if something happens to the omnipod PDM. You lose that you are SOL. At least with all other pumps you can bolus from the pump itself. We have an old animas pump we bring but that’s out of warranty etc. so many things to worry about like you say. I am a freak. If I was going out of country I would probably next day air a set of supplies to the hotel or house I was staying at Incase I lose luggage in travel. Thanks again for the video.

    Such great advice for any TD1!!!Specially the Lantus (low acting insulin) and extra pump, if you use an insulin pump.... I learned that lesson the ‘hard’ way, in one of my trips to Mexico, we went to the beach, I totally forgot to unplug my Animas (that’s the pump I was using back then) and decide to have fun in the water, that’s when I also learned my pump wasn’t water resistant 😬. Long story short, I survived the next 2 days with extra-multiple injections of fast acting insulin.... not fun 🥺😖, until I got back to the states.
    Regarding treating lows, I always carry Smarties 🍬, they help get my sugar back to level , they are great 👍🏻 ... just want to say thank you Canada 🇨🇦 for making those awesome candy 🍬 rolls!!!

    I packed for a trip to Vermont over Thanksgiving. Worked out perfect that both Dexcom G6 and site change were morning of travel. I tried something different for pump cartridge loading with the full 300 units. I usually load180 after tubing prime. Like you, I planned for 2 site changes and brought a spare Dexcom. Trip was 5 days and the cartridge lasted until I got home. Perfect! I have never heard of NovoRapid. I use Novolog.
    On the list for Tandem Control-IQ. Nurse educator informed me that Control-IQ overwrites Basal-IQ making Basal-IQ unrecoverable. I am OK with that as Control-IQ performs in a similar manner protecting you from lows as well as bolusing for highs.
    Glad your trip went well as mine did. Taught my niece's son how to make Italian sausage stuffed cabbage rolls. We also enjoyed the Von Trapp family ski lodge, restaurant and brewery near Stowe, VT. "The hills are alive with the sound of music".

    Thank you Michelle, I love this video. I was recently in Indonesia and was pushed into a pool with my Medtronic pump on. It died. I had my spare pump, but the settings from my dead pump had been changed by my endo shortly before the holiday, and I didn’t update them in my notes on the phone. How stupid am I? I rang my endo’s office and his staff couldn’t access my file from his computer??? So all they had were some handwritten scribbles. I then rang Medtronic to get the backup pump set up and started. Turns out that the settings were completely and utterly wrong, wrong, wrong. I had my second worse hypo on the flight Jakarta to Sydney Australia. 3 hours into a 9 hour flight and just wow. My husband freaked out and completely forgot everything he had ever learned about my diabetes (36 plus years) and was screaming at me to stop shaking and crying. The flight attendant was trying to put an oxygen mask on me! I could feel my brain sliding into unconsciousness and I thought that I was going to die. I really did think I was dying. Between them all, they managed to get some ginger beer into me, this was after 3 packs of 26gms of liquid carb, and my glucometre finally register a blood sugar level of LOW. What a completely horrendous experience. My husband has since undergone a re-run of Glucagon etc. I wish that I could afford the CGM, but it is not supported here in Australia. It is prohibitively expensive to both set up and the consumables are just not achievable by normal people.

    Thanks for sharing! That sure is a lot of supplies, but I’m glad you found what works well for you. Do you not like using pens if your pump should fail? (You have Lantis + an extra pump) would you not feel comfortable just resorting to Lantus? Maybe it’s because you’ve used a pump for a very long time and are much more accustomed to it. I’m the opposite, and love to take pump breaks and actually schedule days for pen use on my vacations (especially if a lot of water time will be part of it - don’t like the idea of being in a pool without that constant drip of insulin happening).

    • @MichelleLord

    Thanks for this video. I'm travelling to Europe in July so this was helpful. I'm going for 3 weeks. I use the dexcom g6 and insulin pens. I don't have dexcom receiver so can I till use my phone on the aeroplane to get readings. I know that at take off and landing phone needs to be in aeroplane mode. This would be my first time travelling with the g6. Even if you don't have data can you receive readings.

    • @johnedwards5575
      @johnedwards5575 4 года назад

      G Aingaran I just spent a few weeks flying around and was in a similar situation as you. So, I left with one basal insulin in a frio case. Bolus in another frio case. An extra vial in there so I could put it in the hotel fridge. A Dexcom sensor, my OneTouch glucose tester, and... that’s it. Airplane mode will kill any Dexcom readings. Don’t bother turning on airplane mode. You’ll be fine. After a half week in salt water and 30 degrees my sensor was starting to peel off, so just hit a drug store for some 3M medical tape. Voila. Fixed. There’s always that what if feeling... but realistically... pharmacies are in all parts of the world, and provided you aren’t in the US or Canada... the essential insulin is cheap if it goes bad (on one other vacation, I fried my insulin in the trunk of a car. In a totally different Canadian province, but pharmacist took insurance info and had insulin for me within twenty minutes.)

    Hello Michelle, I am from India diagnosed with type1 two years ago till date I have never used cgm or insulin pump (cause they were not available in my country and super expensive).
    Recently Freestyle Libre Pro is launched here and i am planning to buy it. Even now its quite expensive (360$) as Libre is not being sold in stores or online but only through doctors, anyways would you recommend it? We don't have any other options here should I get it imported from any other country cause the cost is almost same but available is uncertain in times of emergency.
    And I am not really comfortable even to even think about something sticking into my body at all times and the thought of someone pulling it out just sends shivers down my spine. How do i overcome it cause i know i need it

    • @MichelleLord
      @MichelleLord  4 года назад

      This is a very personal choice. Some people like the Libre, and some don't. I used it for 4 months and had no issues with it, but I do prefer Dexcom. However, not all people feel the same. If Libre is what is accessible to you, and you believe it will help your diabetes management, then I don't see why you shouldn't try it out :).

    I have type 1. Have had for almost a year. Im 19 almost 20. I am just out of my honeymoon phase. And have had trouble with highs alot the last few days. Ive only been carb counting for exactly a week today. I was wondering if you struggled with that at first and if it will get any better. Im on injections right now. 15units of lantus and 1 humalog for ever 20 carbs and my endo put my correction at 100 and every 60 points above that i take a unit.
    Idk i still eat low carb. I have eaten more than i was. But my carb range is 40-60. I used to never even go that much. Maybe 20. Maybe. But she said she wanted me to eat more normal so im more willing to venture into my carb range. But my sugar has been wild and idky. Its annoying and a major headache. Just was wondering any advice and also if you think i should ask my dr about the pump or is the injection a good thing. Idk which would be easier or better. She hasnt suggested the pump yet.
    I did have a question. Those strips that you said works with the libre. I have the freestyle libre and i was wondering if you could please put the link for the ketone strips. I tried to google but no luck. Thanks 😊 have a nice trip
