Hi Michelle. You can’t imagine how much I appreciate your honesty about your numbers. It says that when we struggle, we’re not alone. Like you said, there’s other sides to your life besides Diabetes and you showed us that. You’re the best!
Really exhausting both physically and mentally when one has so many lows in such a short time (two days), but it happens and it's always good to keep it positive!
Your having so many lows because the doctors are driving you crazy making you think that you a TYPE 1 diabetic needs to have there sugar between 80-120. 😂 I’m a type 1 and I don’t give a shit about 80-120. I just keep it under 200 constantly. A sugar under 200 is doing NOTHING to you. The only reason 80-120 even exist is because there always lowering the acceptable numbers to diagnose more and more people with type 2 diabetes to give out more metformine and more dr appointments $$
@@eugeneabreut960 I completely disagree. Normal glucose levels (80-120 or opening the bracket a bit more 70-135) for Type 1 diabetic are extremely important as a high glucose has a negative effect long term in most of your organs. The point is that Type 1s have a a very long evolution (in my case more than 20 years) and therefore keeping your glucose at a normal range becomes paramount. I do not know in which part of the world you are but where I am the first thing they do with Type 2s is not metmorphine but rather analyse lifestyle choices that could have an impact (sedentary life, eating habits and so on) on their glucose.
@@herrjohnny I’m in America, and that’s fine brother, i know what you go through, I’m also type 1. But I’m telling you right now a sugar under 200 is doing nothing to you. My dad has been type 1 for almost 50 years and he’s had eye doctors tel him that a sugar under 200 is doing nothing no damage to his eyes. That’s fine. Keep dealing with your lows. That’s your problem not mine.
Enjoyed this so much. I could hear the “emotion” in your voice at the start of this blog, as you (and we) struggle with everything going on these days, but you ended it in such a calm reassuring -and uplifting- way! Thank you for the marvelous content of this and all your blog posts. Especially during these times, it’s so helpful for us to share and uplift each other. Thank you Michelle!
Haha. Great that Rafi helps you carb count but not always get it right 😄 Btw I don’t bolus for latte. Also, I love the music in this vlog. Especially the part when you are getting ready for the post work coffee.
Check out Plaine Products! Their shampoo, conditioner, body wash all comes in aluminum containers. You can send back the used and get a replacement bottle no plastic. If you find shampoo bars aren’t your fav 😊
Loved this vlog Michelle! Also made me feel less alone because I’ve been battling lows like crazy recently - especially Post meal 😅! So good to see you and Raffi are well- and LOVE the kitchen renovations!! Happy Weekend Diabuddy!! 💙
Aww thanks Andrea!! I'm sorry you are battling some post meal lows. That is frustrating because you are already full when you are treating the low! I hope you are well and have enjoyed your weekend so far 😊💞
There is still a lot of work involved with pumping insulin, and it is by no means perfect. Some individuals with diabetes achieve better control on injections, and some achieve better control on insulin pumps. It's a very personal choice.
I just got recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes this week 🙃 and your videos have been so helpful! Thank you so much for being as honest, open and exceptionally ordinary. I just had my birthday and didn’t even eat my birthday cake because I was so scared to have spikes my glucose! 🥺😭 I’ll figure it out but thank you so much for the content you put out!
Hey Tonia! I'm sorry about your diagnosis :( . Don't worry, you will get used to diabetes being a part of your everyday life soon enough, and you will learn how to balance things like birthday cake with taking care of your diabetes! All the best 💙💙
Flipping love you thank you, you calm me as we got so stressed about highs and lows but u make me feel like this is normal for t1d life. Plus we have fist diaversary tomorrow bring on the cake 🎂 🎁🥳🎈👍😘😀
Haha I have my moments where I am not calm, but yes, highs and lows are just part of being diabetic! Happy 1st Diaversary!! I hope you enjoy that cake 🎉
This is awesome! Was looking for advice on how to make my new freestyle sensor last longer because it is falling out already after like 48 hours 😬...so glad I found this channel though, can't wait to watch some more of these vlogs and see how someone else handles their type 1 diabetes and maybe I can even learn some new tricks 😄
Hi Michelle. After 62 years with type 1, there is one thing I will NOT give up. That is my 2 cups of dark Colombian coffee, every morning. And, like you, my blood sugar spikes only a few minutes into cup #1. After much experimentation, I now bolus 2.5 units of Fiasp as cup #1 is brewing. That seems to do the trick. Diabetes loses this battle. Killer dress by the way.
Thanks for sharing your experience Doug! I feel like those of us living with T1D all react differently to coffee, and it takes some trial and error to figure out what is best on an individual basis. I'm glad you figured out what works so that you don't have to give up your dark Colombian coffee! You and my husband have the same taste in coffee by the way 😊
I’ve been having lots of lows as well 😭 I also just got the new tandem pump (same one you have) so I’m learning the differences between this one and my old Medtronic one! Definitely a work in progress but it’s helpful knowing we all have the same problems 🥰
I'm sorry you have also been having lots of lows! You are right - diabetes is a constant work in progress. I feel like I'm always adjusting my basal rates to account for hormones, weather etc. Enjoy your new pump 💖
I consume a LOT of good espresso (it doesn't touch sides) as exploring single origin beans is a bit of a hobby of mine but don't find it affects my BG. I do drink it as a flat white but use high fat dairy milk (which has less carbs than low fat milk but also promotes ketotic metabolism if on a LCHF diet due to the fat content). That has about half the carbs that you're reporting but perhaps you're using oat milk for other reasons. Despite the fact that I consume very low carbs (
Thanks for sharing Paul! It's always good to hear experiences from other T1Ds! This is another example of how we are all so different, even when to comes to something as simple as drinking coffee 😊.
I love your hair in braids. It looks so cute. Also I have no idea how to adjust my basal rate. I mean I'm never sure which one to change. I usually have my Endo do that.
Thank you!! I do some of my own basal adjustments. However, I'm not completely confident with all my self-adjustments haha, so I quite often email my nurse and run changes by her.
So you can turn off your alerts on your phone and your pump (tslim) won't alert you either? My son gets overwhelmed with alerts so this would be good to know. His tslim is what gives him alerts though and he can't turn off that other than turn to vibrate .
The alerts for the phone and pump are separate, so if you want the alerts off your pump as well, you have to go in to the pump and turn them off. All you have to do is go to My CGM -> CGM Alerts -> High and Low, then there will be green toggle buttons under both the high and low alerts to turn them off. I will occasionally do this when I'm feeling overwhelmed with all the diabetes tech, but I don't make a habit out of it, especially overnight since I need the alerts 😊
Your video made me feel better. I don't really know anyone else that has type 1 so it's nice sometimes to know I'm not alone living the type 1 life..lol
Hi Michelle! Quick question that I’m sure most Canadian type ones would like to know, what insurance do you use to help you with your diabetic expenses? (Sorry if this question is inappropriate) as a type one myself AND self employed I find financial help is hard to find.
Hi!! I am very lucky to have excellent insurance through my work. My company has a corporate plan through Great West Life. It's the first insurance company that I haven't had to fight with about covering Dexcom. Growing up, my parents were self employed and had no insurance, so they had to pay 100% out of pocket for everything. I remember that Diabetes Canada had some financial assistance program for individuals who are self-employed, so that may be worth looking into. My diabetes education team would also help us out and give me insulin samples whenever I went to my clinic. I would mention that you have no insurance next time you are at your diabetes clinic to see if they can offer you some insulin samples. It really helped my family! I hope this somewhat helps 💞
I am eagerly awaiting launch of non invasive glucometer like pulseoximeter which will measure sugar with laser ,,I want prick free frequent sugar level monitoring
Can I ask you something. I‘m thinking to geht the same pump as well. I throught the Dexcom App wouldn‘t work abymore when Dexcom is connecting with the Pump. But it‘s seems Not true. So you can monitor your bloodsugar on both?
I have diabetes, just like you. While watching the video, I'm trying to eat healthy, exercise, and resist the temptation to eat. Maybe because I'm young, food goes into my mouth first before I check my blood sugar. I use Dexcom, and I was very curious about the pump, but I found out through the video. Don't you feel uncomfortable using the pump?
Insulin pumps are more expensive than injections. However, depending on where you live, your government or your private insurance through work may cover some of the costs.
Hey, I've been diagnosed with type 1 22 years ago and I have so much trouble with myself. At 7 I almost died while having a hypo that paralized my whole body. Ever since I've been traumatized and scared to death. The fear of experiencing a hypo is so big that I've become addicted to Opiates and other drugs and never let my blood sugar levels drop below a certain point as where I feel safe. I'm 28 now and its now or never for my physical condition. This video is the first step in my process to accept this disease and make a change. While watching this video and typing this comment, I've become to realize that I really need someone to talk to about type 1.Is there anyone that wanna have a chat? it would mean so much to me.( I'm Dutch btw)Thomas
