      Alliah White, sorry to hear about being newly diagnosed. You have found the perfect channel to help guide you. This is a tricky condition as it is so very different for all of us. So may you find the perfect path that is able to help you keep your sugars as close to normal as possible and/or of course what your diabetes team is asking for you to do. Best of luck to you and wishing you all of the support you need, from Michelle, your diabetes team, books, classes (once Covid is under control) at the hospitals, etc. Be gentle and kind with yourself as you find what does and does not work well for you. With time and research you got this!! Stay safe and healthy during the holidays as simply as possible!! Sending you some sunshine 🌞 from sunny Arizona!! 🌴🌻🌵😊

    I LOVE how honest you’ve been about your numbers. Very hard to always be in range as some Diabetes channels display that their numbers are. You’re so real. I realize that doses vary so much. You seem to be on very low Insulin to carb. ratios. Does anyone else have to take 1 unit for only 3 carbs. at certain times of the day?

    • @MichelleLord
      @MichelleLord  4 года назад

      Thanks Sydney! I try to keep things very real here. In reality, T1D is super challenging to live with, and we all get blood sugar fluctuations. It's part of living with diabetes!
      Yes, my insulin to carb ratio has been like this since I started an insulin pump 13 years ago. I know some people with diabetes who have ratios of 1:3 at some points during the day, so you definitely aren't alone! 💙

    Michelle, I am sorry to hear that they had to clear out your desk, but better safe than sorry, right? You have such a great outlook on diabetes and your honesty is a huge help, especially for the newly diagnosed diabetics. I am possibly going to be getting the Tandem T-Slim with IQ, and they asked me what infusion set I would like, so I was a little bit caught off guard. I believe you are using this new pump which is doing so well for so many diabetics, and I hope I can be so lucky. Anyway, do you feel comfortable with letting us know what infusion set you are using? I have been looking them up on-line and so far, I have no clue as to which one is the best choice. I also just want to say kudos to you and Raffi - your down to earth approach to life and living with diabetes and now while being housebound is such a comfort to see how kind and easy life can be when living with a partner who loves you as well as treats with such respect and consideration for your diabetes. You two could do a Reality Show on just how nice it can be when you keep it simple. So thanks for the inspiration you provide as it gives those of us who may be struggling from time to time a whole lot of hope to help us get through a tough day - especially when our sugars are deciding to take us on a Roller Coaster Ride for no apparent reason. That is one of the most challenging things about diabetes - no day is the same. My own boyfriend just shakes his head as he feels so helpless when he sees me having a tough day. He knows I am about as compliant as one can get, yet I can wake up with perfect sugars and be heading to the ER later in the day as my sugars climb to 400-500’s which can put me into DiabeticKetoacidosis (DKA) in no time. My first time with DKA they had me in the ICU for six nights and they told me to find a good gastroenterologist to see if I may have developed the complication of Gastroparesis. Sure enough, I had. This is a condition which is also called Delayed Stomach Emptying, which makes it really hard to know when to bolus. So at least this helped my Endocrinologist’s office to understand why I was in the ER so often. But I am an odd duck with my diabetes as I became a Type 1 Brittle Diabetic one year after a nearly fatal car accident. My Endo’s have told me that only 1 in 100,000 of newly diagnosed diabetics end up with Type 1 due to trauma or even a real bad virus or infection, even if you do not have diabetes in your family’s gene pool! So I am hoping this new partnership with Tandem and DEXCOM6 will be of some help to me. I wonder do you ever spike in sugars and or a fever after exercise? Just this last year I have been doing so quite a bit. Plus, my boyfriend will ask me, “So did we get a new sauna? Are you aware of just how red your face is”? So I will go look and sure enough, 🥵, so I will check my fever and it will be up to 102.5. I simply get a cool washcloth and go lay down until I feel better. All in all, I am still so very grateful that the science is still upgrading our tools to help us!! Just think of the days before they had blood glucose readers? Now they are about as close as they can get to giving us a robotic pancreas. I have tried pumps in the past and after 4 trips to the ER within a couple of months the ER drs. told me, you may just not be a candidate for one of these. At least not THIS one, so please talk with your doctors and ask them to work with you for a better option. So here I go . . . with another option. I could not believe it when I first tried the DEXCOM6, as the first 3 were off by about 50-70 points, but I figured out to simply calibrate it after it is done warming up and then they can last most of the time for the entire 10 days!! My finger tips are oh so happy!! Anyway, sending ☮️ n ❤️ to you, Raffi and all of your subscribers from hot and sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌴🌻🌵

      Yes you are right, it is definitely better to be safe 😊. I use the Autosoft 90 set and I love it! It is very easy to insert. Thank you so much for the compliments! I'm so sorry to hear about your DKA and gastroparesis. If you end up going with the tslim pump, I think you will love the tslim/g6 combo - it really helped me. And as for the fever after exercise, I have never experienced that. However, I have sometimes had blood sugar spikes post exercise. All the best with your journey finding a pump that is a good fit for you, and thanks for watching 🤗❤️

    Hey Michelle, I’ve been talking to my boyfriend about moving to Canada if I can no longer afford my insulin here in the US. Just out of curiosity, what do you have to pay for up there when you referenced “medical expenses” if you don’t mind? Again, just curious. Loved the vlog and the editing on this one! Glad you got to see your family for thanksgiving 🖤

    • @MichelleLord
      @MichelleLord  4 года назад +1

      Hi! I'm sorry you are in this situation :(. It is so unfair and heartbreaking to hear.
      Here in Canada, what you have to pay depends on what province you live in and if you have private insurance through work. Here in Ontario, without private insurance through your employer, you have to pay for everything. To give you a *rough* idea on prices...Dexcom is ~$5000 per year, Insulin (Novorapid) is ~$45/vial where I live, test strips are ~$1/strip, insulin pump supplies are about ~$2500/year. However, in Ontario you can apply for a program called ADP, where the government will help you pay for your insulin pump supplies. IF you are have private insurance through your employer, they will pay for some of your diabetes supplies, but the coverage varies depending on the plan. When I was looking for my first job, I specifically sought out an employer with benefits to help with my medical expenses.
      I hope this helps give you an idea of the expenses. Sending you love and all my best 💞💞

      Haha yes Canadian Thanksgiving is always at the beginning of October. My favourite things about the G6/t:slim combo is how they communicate with each other. I have Basal IQ here in Canada, but you will have the step up, Control IQ. I'm sure you already know about it, but it will automatically suspend when your BG is going low, and give a dose of insulin when your BG is going high. Pretty cool!
