  • The flag carrier of the Philippines, aptly named Philippine Airlines, has an important role in connecting people to its country while also providing important air services between the various islands of the Philippine Archipelago. In today’s video, we examine its fleet of 75 aircraft, where they're flying, and how this fleet is much smaller than it used to be.

    Even with the Vancouver fuel stop, PAL is still the fastest option for Manila to NYC. The A350's more humid cabin is a big help with this very long distance.

    The first plane I remember flying on was a PAL 747-400 back in the 90s when we immigrated to the US. And bitter-sweetly, the last 747 I’ve flown on was a PAL domestic flight from CEB-MNL. Mabuhay to the queen of the skies!

    • @cpdragon812
      @cpdragon812 Год назад +7

      True. The 747-400 is now unfortunately retired. One of the reasons for this is PAL434. Unfortunately in the flight, a bomb was set in the 747-200B and blew up 4 hours after the bomber put it under seat. It killed a row (Row 4-K) mid flight. Good news that it survived by landing at Japan, Narita Airport.

      As far as i know, PR never fly to mainland Europe because the route between Europe to Manila are low yield and weak O&D demand. Instead, the travelers choose one stop connecting flight in Dubai, Doha, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong and etc. PR doesn't stand chance to compete with other airlines like Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Qatar Airways and etc for Manila to Europe market.

    I set out on a flight from Davao to Sydney, Australia, and herein lies the story. The plane left Davao headed for Manila approximately two hours late due to weather delays. My connecting flight was due to leave Manila just under an hour before my plane landed there. To my total surprise and overwhelming relief, PAL staff were waiting and rushed through Manila airport and onto the plane that they had keep waiting for my arrival. The plane arrived in Sydney at its scheduled arrival time. THAT IS SERVICE SECOND TO NONE !!!

    In a short to mid term perspective, the A350s would be the viable solution given that it is already in production and PAL has been using it which is already familiar to its pilots. Although, it is no denying that 777s are vital in the operations and growth of the airline because of its good mix of capacity and range. Moving forward, with the aircraft that they currently have, I think that the airline should focus more on revamping their cabin products especially on their 777s and narrow bodies.

    For new planes, it makes more sense for PR to go with the 350 instead of the 777x both for range (Same reason for SQ given the geography) and for type rating/CCQ with the a320 family and a330, two planes that will never be given up given how important they are for domestic routes. Just that right now, the 77W makes sense just as much as it does for everyone else.

    I remember flying with PAL (Philippine Airlines) to Manila around June in 2015 (before my class starts), together with my cousin. That trip was to go to my relatives and there is any important papers that are related for me. The first PAL aircraft (to Manila) was an A320ceo (with a residue on a L1 door, presumably used for the Philippine president/Vice president). It was my first time to fly that plane with an overhead IFE, since me and my relatives usually flew only without IFE on board. Also on board, the food choices were small and instead eating a Quaker snack bar, I drink only a coffee, even I was 14 years old at that time. Also at the same time, I have a problem of my ears. I carefully wear their headphone and didn’t volume up the audio so my ears won’t be hurt or whatsoever.I also found out that the earphone that I have is different from the ones the airline provide (I thought they didn’t provide, but I was wrong).
    The second PAL aircraft (back to Davao) was their (then) new A321ceo. It was my first flight with a stretcher variant of the A320 family & it has a Shakrlet. I was disappoint to see that they don’t have an IFE on board (except for Business Class that the airline provide an Ipad). Even it was a disappointment flight, at least it wasn’t another A320ceo’s. Also, I order the same beverage (of course a coffee).

    Economy on the A350 was really quite good. First time I was able to sleep on an airplane. Took it from Manila to NY.

    No disrespect intended, but I wish they would dress up the "Philippines" with a more dynamic font or coloring. Make it larger, possibly, like the way Pan Am did with their billboard livery. The tail and winglets are magnificent though. 🌈✨️

    • @joshuaeriktespoer3375
      @joshuaeriktespoer3375 Год назад

      They made a difference on the "Philippines". If you would search on their A320 RP-C8613, you would see the difference in the title's size as compared to their other aircraft.

      I would really love to see a new PAL livery. This is so outdated and long-overdue. The tail is okay. Maybe just adjust the color or something. 🙏🏼🇵🇭

      @@leonardsindayen2458 The font size changed. Just look for RP-C8613 then compare it to other PAL aircraft.

    I have flown on Philippine Airlines three of the four times I have visited the Philippines. All my flights have been PR113 and PR112 LAX-MNL and MNL- LAX. My last trip was the worse experience I had with Philippine Airlines and probably be my last time using the airlines they informed me Friday morning that my Monday flight on PR112 has changed to the Airbus 330 which had a technical stop in Seoul when I found out Friday morning I reached out to the Airlines all weekend long trying to figure out how I was going to make my flight to Las Vegasand told them that I would miss my flight from LAX to LAS because of this change and they told me don't worry when you get to LAX they'll be a in Transit person will help you but when I got there there was nobody there to help me. The flight landed 10 minutes after my flight from LAX to LAS departed. I ended up renting a car and driving home to Las Vegas. I spent an extra $400 on the supposedly non-stop flights not a technical stop that I booked back in April but did I get anything from Philippine Airlines all I got was a stinking sorry excuse apology email from the airlines.

      Yes, they have a habit of telling you things that aren't true, they think being 1hr to 2 hrs late is being on time, always remember PAL means Planes always late, they care nothing about costumer service

      Here's the reason, the 777 was maintenance at Middle East and sometimes at Lufthansa Technik Philippines, in fact PAL operates as Domestic of 777 to Cebu, Davao and General Santos in Mindanao, and operates to other countries like Australia, Thailand, South Korea, Vietnam, China and many more

      I guess it is for repairs/maintenance (RP-C7774, RP-C7781, RP-C7778)? I hope they have enough B777-300ER operating as the Christmas season draws near where MNLLAXMNL will have some 2 to 3x daily operations and additional for MNLSFOMNL for the December to January 2023 schedules.

    Back 2019 we loved it, yyz to mnl but after this pandemic it's too expensive compared to others, they should have some kind of pricing for their own citizen. "Sana all PAL" then 2022, I flew with other Asian airlines and we still had fun. If the price is competitive then yah I don't mind flying with them. A350 will be the ideal it's all about passengers comfort and safety.
