Still Flying The A340-600: The Lufthansa Fleet In 2022

  • The last two years have been a rollercoaster ride for Lufthansa’s fleet. The carrier has well over 250 aircraft in its mainline fleet and is notably one of the few legacy network airlines still flying the Boeing 747 and Airbus A340. Sadly, Lufthansa said goodbye to all
    14 of its Airbus A380s, completely abandoning the type due to the pandemic. However, the airline will be welcoming the Boeing 787 Dreamliner into its operations soon- further diversifying an already diverse fleet. In this video, let’s take an in-depth look at Lufthansa’s collection of aircraft in 2022 and what we can expect to see in the coming months and years.

    Flew on LH this past JAN & MAR specifically for the chance to fly on the 747. Dubai-Frankfurt-Miami legs were all 748s, but the return Frankfurt-Dubai leg was a 744. There were small differences between the -4 & -8 interior. Upstairs in the hump, the windows are set lower down than the main deck. Im average height, and I had to duck down to look through the window, as sitting normally put my eyes right on the panel above the window. Orlando to Frankfurt was an A343. Even though I was in biz class, it wasn’t anything special. There are better, more private feeing seats on other airlines.

    A reason why Lufthansa can afford this kind of diversity that on smaller airlines would complicate operations is not just that they have the scale to pull it off but also that their service and maintenance subsidiary is used by a lot of other airlines, including for example also Wizz, which spreads out the costs for operating a lot of different aircraft

    It's interesting to see how many different planes they have. I mean they're massive (here in Germany they're basically the only airline apart from their own subsidiaries like Eurowings) and that's probably why they can afford to have like 10 completely different types. It sounds like they're not a well-structured fleet, but looking at the numbers they have as many of each of these planes as many airlines have in total. So I guess it should also be a really resilient fleet when it comes to groundings, technical issues etc.

    My favorite Lufthansa aircraft is the Airbus A340, and Boeing 747-400. Retirement of the entire Lufthansa A380 fleet has confirmed in April 1st 2022.

    I have flown Lufthansa 3 times, however not since 2005. At the time, I felt their longhaul economy product was dated/tired. They were way behind Asian, Middle Eastern, and even US carriers when it came to longhaul IFE. The food wasn't bad, but the 747-400 cabins needed a major refresh. My first experience with the carrier was on an A340 flight from Chicago to Munich in 1998. I felt that the seats, aisles, and overall personal space were much less than on the 777's I flew with United, American, and British Airways.

    now, despite Mr. Spohr‘s words, the A380 IS returning into service for Lufthansa. three A380‘s will be part of Lufthansa‘s summer of 2023 flight plan. They are being prepared for Service at the Lufthansa Technik facility in Manila.

    Why they abandoned a380 and b747 still flying? Is it a question of capacity, or efficiency?

      @@sergiolaurencio7534 Now British Airways is flying their A350 to San Diego instead of their 787 which is no longer flying the route. Before, an A350 was unheard of in San Diego. First time I saw it on flightradar24 I thought it was an error. The A350s are taking over!

    Just curious, which ones cost more to run? An Airbus A340 - 600 or an A380? Both are quad jets for sure and surely the A380 is heavier. But the later surely have newest technologies.

    Flown on both their A321ceos (100 & 200) and their Airbus A330s. Favourites would have to be the A350, B744 and the A321ceo.

      I am jealous of you. My mon really fears the 321ceo, he fled for his country on it and she and she spent 2 days with ear pain and deafness. He said that that plane makes a terrible noise even sitting in the quietest place (unlike me, my family does not like planes) Now I was surprised when she fly the AA 738-800 bac to my house.

    • @spongebubatz
      @spongebubatz 2 года назад +2

      All of them are unfortunately rather unlikely. Lufthansa would rather choose the A220 over the A319neo, Lufthansa Cargo‘s workhorse is the 777F and the A350-1000 could be too close to the 777X

      @@malvinjnrn7784 I think it planned that both airlines get at least some of the 787s. I’m very certain that Austrian will get some given that they already have 767s and 777s in their fleet. For Swiss it’s the same as they have the 777, on the other hand the A350 could also work for them

      @@spongebubatz yes but for Brussels airlines their fleet is very dated apart from their neos on order maybe a330neo could work for them.
