Bought a set of HB turbo’s, fantastic. One range session with my 83 year old dad and they are now in his bag. Then bought the halo’s and am back to shooting single figure rounds with one impressive round of one over. my confidence is through the roof. This was inspired by a friend who went from 5 to scratch in no time, he was like me a lousy iron player.

I'm 60 years old and used to play Hogan Apex 2s, then more recently Calloway Rogues. I just switched to these 2 months age and they are ABSOLUTELY the easiest clubs to hit that I've ever swung. Truly remarkable how consistent the strike is.

@@Alan_Edwards Essentially the same distances, although the 5 and 6 iron do seem to launch slightly higher which can cost 5-10 yards if there's any wind. You really should at least test drive these -- my very first swing with a 9-iron I fell in love.

It's tiresome to see all these reviews that talk about appearance and sound when reviewing these clubs. If you're a high handicapper, these clubs are your best bet for hitting better shots. If you're an older low handicapper, these clubs will ensure you're still able to score as you age and your body gets stiffer. All the concern about how they look or sound, just seems stupid to me. Golf is hard enough, so shouldn't you aggressively seek out any advantage you can? If not, why do people select a specific brand of premium golf balls and religiously stick to them? It's because they're convinced that particular brand helps them score better. Why should club selection be any different?

I've never tried them to date, mainly because my current Wilson's are less than 18 month old. My fear is that if I do I may be tempted. There is no disgrace in making this difficult game easier. Great review Andy, as usual you pose the questions we all think about but don't act upon.

That was such an enjoyable review. Love the beautiful setting, but also enjoyed seeing how you couldn't stop smiling throughout while also having that look on your face (from your admitted having been a "club snob") that in one sense you're not supposed to be smiling so much! The whole thing was fun to watch. I just received a set of these and love them! I ordered the 5 through D wedge set but also the 4 iron and SW. I would love to see what you think of the 4 iron. You showed it in some of the pictures and it has a curved face and even more of a "backside" than the 5 iron and I love it. Love these Cleveland clubs to much that I also got the launcher XL 3 Wood, and 5 Wood along with the 3 Halo "Hy Wood" and the 3 Hybrid and 4 Hybrid. That's more clubs than allowed at once but part of the fun is deciding which ones to game (also have a 60 degree CBX 2). Only non-Cleveland club is the Titleist TSR2 Driver - wow, love that club. Thanks again for this informative and fun review!

I play Titleist woods, driver and fairways, but have not been happy with the Titleist T300’s or T400’s. Then I saw your videos on the Cleveland Launcher XL irons and Halos. I took your suggestion to mix them up and now, very happily, play Cleveland CBX wedges, 7- DW Launcher Irons and 5 & 6 Halo irons. All, including the CBX wedges, in Project X Catalyst Senior shafts. Now my TSi1 driver and 5 & 7 woods and my combined XL Halos and XL irons have made the game exciting again! Thanks from this 79 year old golfer!!

First off, new subscriber and I love the channel. I have a set of the first iteration of the TaylorMade SIMs circa 2020 custom to 2” extensions (I’m 6’7”). Very forgiving and I get really great distance. But that actually was a bit of a problem. I tend to get a LOT of run with them so distance control was a bit of a crap shoot at times; can’t tell you how many times I had the perfect approach shot in, only to see it run right over the back of the green.
About 6 months ago, I read about the HB Launchers (the precursor to the Halos you reviewed) and bought a set. Fell in love with them for the exact reasons you highlighted: high ball flight with a steep descent angle to hold greens. Unlike some reviewers have stated, I’m not at all put off by the look of them when I’m at address - I think the beefy sole helps. Even on mishits, the size of the club head makes sure you make contact to advance the ball.
The one issue I do have with these is that I lost an average of about 10 yards per club versus my SIMs and there’s gap between my 6i and 7i - they both go about 160 yds (I hit my SIM 6i about 160-165 and my 7i about 175-180), so that has been frustrating. Minor but frustrating.
Additionally, I’m wasn’t a fan of graphite shafts on irons and I’ve since fitted them all (4i - Pw) with single length KBS shafts (all are about a standard 4i length) - and they’re absolute gold. Still working with getting distance back but I have no complaints.
I may give the Halos a look now as well once I’ve gotten a season of rounds under my belt with these.

Been using these for over a year now. The short irons are incredible and I play the 6 through D wedge. I find the 5 iron still tough for me but my 7 wood takes up the slack there. Overall an awesome set of irons. I encourage people to try them out.

  • @Jack-xy4fy

I'm a once a fortnight golfer with a slow swing speed and a bad back, and I tried many super game improvement sets before finally landing on these beauty's.
Even with large OS shapes and fully cavity backs, my 7 iron was only going 145 yards and couldn't hit any iron over that... So no 6, or 5 iron.
But with these my 7 iron goes 165-175 yards, my 6 iron goes 175-185,and my 5 iron goes around 195 yards.
If an OS shape or a full cavity back is called a super game improvement iron, then these must be called "super duper game improvement" category. They hit rockets! And very straight. Since using them I've been within inches of 2 HIO and one 145 yard eagle which hit the flag and bounced out.
The 4h is also an incredible addition to this set.
No bonus points for making the game harder, I use all the most forgiving clubs I can get my hands on.
    G425 max driver
    XL halo hybrid
    XL halo irons
    Cleveland CBX2 wedges

I game a set of the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Hybrid irons 4 to PW I purchased them the first week they were available in the UK, I was struggling with my previous set of Mizuno MP20 HMB iron's and at 75 and due to my various medical issues, I just didn't have the swing speed to get the best out of them, so I sold them and bought a set of the Cleveland XL Halo's and to be honest it's the best decision I've made, they are so easy to launch with a straighter flight and the carry distance is better than I was getting before for the limited swing speed I have, I was reluctant at first to even consider ditching my Mizuno's as they were such a lovely iron to look at and to own, but at the end of the day I wasn't enjoying my golf and IMHO it's not just about how a club looks more importantly it's about how it performs..! so I ditched my ego and I'm enjoying my golf again, enjoyed the video Andy 👍

I tried a 5 & 6 iron and was so impressed I completed the set through their D wedge. I have to say that I replaced the D wedge with a Ping 50* for better strike. They get the ball up in the air with improved distance and very good stopping on greens. I cannot speak to “workability”, but they reliably move the ball down the fairway in the direction I want. Yes you can hit a bad shot, but they are forgiving and reward good strikes.

I played with the original Cleveland Hi-bore clubs many years ago. They were great for a beginner like me. I eventually moved on to a fitted set of clubs. What I miss most about those clubs was my ability to bump and run around the green. I had a system where I used a putter stroke and I knew the distance of each hybrid iron. I was a scrambling master with them! TBH, I would probably trade my Ping G series irons for a fitted set of these new Cleveland hybrid irons.

Great discussion and thanks for bringing us back to the idea that golf clubs are designed to help us have “fun” on the course - ie - hit ball, without too much fuss towards the hole. Given that we may play a Driver, 5 wood, maybe a 7 then 19, 23, 26, hybrid depending on gapping and then drop to shorter irons why not look to use them - played with the Cobras yesterday - Driver and long irons awesome, player ability may have influenced short game but we are moving to “this is my 170m” club not 5 iron - Wed get to play these ones - will be interesting to see if it makes a difference for a 15 HCP hacker!

  • @nickjohns999

I game them. They are even better than the HB Launchers that they replaced. Everything in my bag is bought to make golf easier, from these hybrid irons, my 7 wood, Ping ChipR, and Callaway Super Soft Max ball. With this approach, I have lowered my index six shots this summer. BTW the Halo hybrid is hot off the face as well, better than my Ping G410s. The mickey taking, (not much any more), got much quieter at the annual presentations event.
Take your choice, ego over score. I'll take the prizes, thanks!

After years with Mizuno irons I recently took the plunge and got 5 to PW with senior graphite shafts in Wilson LaunchPad 2 irons. Immediately impressed by the difficulty in hitting a BAD shot. Somewhat backwards way of looking at things, but the real benefit for me has not been better shots in the good shot range, it's the way duffed shots have almost disappeared. One exception to this general picture has been the 5 iron so maybe the 5 rescue will still have a life. (Age 76, playing off 20, lowest handicap 13 in 2008).

Nice review, thank you. These clubs don't sacrifice spin + good decent angle so you can hold the greens. For more info TXG tested these and the Sub 70 799's. Also, mygolfspy did a 2022 most wanted test on SGI irons with data. My take is these SGI irons are all pretty similar (good launch & distance) but where the difference lies is in the dispersion/shot area. Based on the mygolfspy data the Sub 70's, Tour Edge ES522, and Halo's were very consistent and the Wilson's and others had much higher dispersion.

The Cleveland’s I custom built and I love the looks and feel of 5hem. As a 55 year old golfer that has had some health issues in the past my game changed and I feel better hitting them. They allow me to still be aggressive when I need to without compromising my game and without affecting like normal irons do. I actually got distance back and accuracy. Great vid Andy. I would like to see an on course comparison of these, cobra and wilson hybrid irons. These are as revolutionary as when hybrids came out in the long end of the bag They are intended to help those with slower swing speeds get the ball in the air and add back enjoyment to a round of club which age won't let us enjoy with a "standard" set. Blades will always have a very low share of the market because of what is required to perform but as we all age and our performance set change so why not enhance your games with tools to make the game more playable and enjoyable.

I bought a set of HB turbos for my son who just started last year. He has enjoyed them a great deal and can hit is 5 iron about 185 and he is on the smaller side of frame. With some coaching I think he will be gaining even more, and I would have no hesitation recommending them to anyone save a scratch golfer

I purchased the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons for my Bride. She crushes her Driver, but irons were a challenge. She could not get any height to her shots and could not hold the Greens. With the Halo Irons she gets great elevation and NOW is stopping the ball on the Green! Putting for Birdies and Pars, not chipping to save Par or Bogey!

I already own the Cleveland Launcher Halo XL hybrid, which immediately became my favourite, most reliable club in the bag. And I'm thinking about investing in a Halo XL hi-wood, as the online feedback about that club has been very positive. I'm just not sure I could play the Halo XL irons (pretty much for the ego-related reasons you discuss in this video). I know it's irrational. If I play better with the Halo XL irons, it would be daft to not use them. But perhaps playing golf is a daft thing to do in the first place, so maybe that's not such a bad thing! Anyway, good video. Have now subscribed to the channel.

First of all, thank you for this review Andy. Actually I have built my set a bit like many regular readers according to their playing level and age,(see comments below). Driver PING G425 12°; 3 wood PING G410 SFT 16°; 5 wood PING G410 19°:7 wood PING G400 21.5°; 9 wood PING G400 24.5°; PING 6H G410 29°; PING G425 7H 34° (Secret Weapon); PING I210 8-9-P-U irons; PING EYE 2 XG S55° & L62°, Odyssey putter Stroke Lab Double Wide. So my only concern, is about the possibility to go with this kind of club from 6 to G...let me know. Bonjour from Boucherville South shore of Montréal, QC, CAN

Aged 70 & recovering from a stroke which meant that my swing speed and balance affected. Bought these earlier this year (6tosw) and totally agree with your review Andy. These get balls airborne off a swing speed of around 75 & distance decent (125 with 6 iron). Don't think I can remember enjoying golf as much and these are ideal for seniors & slower swings. Also bought Hywood and XL halo 4&5 hybrids as well and these are also great. Great content Andy keep up the excellent work. Cheers.

I've had a set of these for a while and love them ,I bought a 5 iron to match them but I struggle a bit with that but absolutely nail the 6 iron ,it goes a mile, they do tend to spring a bit off the face so take some getting used to for chipping but hats off to Cleveland for clever design so that they don't look too chunky behind the ball, not to everyone's taste but definitely worth a look.

I admit I was an ego sufferer. Play off 16. Used to game Ping G400’s until a friend (complete beginner) purchased a set of Wilson Launchpad 2’s. Reluctantly gave them a try at the range, and wow, just wow.
I strongly recommend all mid / high handicap players put their ego aside and at least try the clubs Andy has reviewed from Cleveland / the Wilson Launchpad range / the Cobra T-rails.
I was more sceptical than most believe me. But within a week my Ping G400’s were traded in for a custom set of Wilson LP 2’s. Best golfing decision I’ve made in 20 years of playing.
Moral of the story don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!
    Just my 2 cents…..

    • @Jack-xy4fy
      @Jack-xy4fy Год назад +1

You do. But the ball will generally still go the desired distance and often in the general direction of the target, you'll just hear a different connection sound, feel a different impact (whether a blade, a chunk or catching the heel) and probably get a different trajectory off the face.
When you stripe it with these, you know it.

I compared these irons side by side with cobra T-Rail..... I went with cobra but both were very gentle on the body... that was my goal... longevity. easier on the hands and joints with the graphite shafts and wider sweet spot. it just makes sense... and this is coming from a guy who loves hitting many many balls on the range... probably to my detriment.... but so be it..... it's better than paying for a therapist...

With the Wilson, the feedback was less satisfying and I had more confidence when I hit the Cleveland's well than with the Wilson.

The only part of hitting irons, concerning appearance, that I care about is how and where the ball goes! I don't understand this 'prissy' thing of worrying about how clubs look, though I do understand it is important to many golfers. I recently got a set and haven't played that much with them yet but I do find them to be a positive step forward. Good review!

    • @oatechaosincycles
      @oatechaosincycles Год назад

Prissy wouldnt be the word I would choose but that probably does apply to some people, for me I get confidence when I look down at my iron and see a quality forged blade. I lose confidence when I see a thick topline and bunch of mass in the back. The ball could go 160 or 200. For many golfers it's about control. This club however has and always will have a place in the market. It would be fun to play a round with them and see what happens though!
